Roomates.

I was reading Aramik's posting about the man who killed his roomate because of something to do with toilet paper, so I've decided to make a thread on roomates.

Tell me about your experiences with roomates that made you want to punch them.

I've lived with 6 different people during my college experience. Here are my own experiences, written in 3rd person. From bad to worst. I had 10 points, but I decided to cut to the worse ones.

Top 5:

6. Your roommate?s alarm clock sounds like a ****ing car being broken into next to your bed every time it goes off. She doesn?t even turn it off after hours of ringing. Literally. You had to ?dismantle? the alarm for her.
7. Your roommate?s boyfriend?s guy friends lay on top of you when you?re taking a nap. Then they denied it and started blaming each other. Then they blamed you.
8. While lying on the carpet, you feel something itchy. You look around and notice hair all over your bedroom and bathroom. You scream. It turns out your roommate who shares your room gave her boyfriend a haircut in the BATHROOM AND BEDROOM. And left the mess there while she goes home for the weekend. You wonder if it?s only the hairs on his head that were cut? or are there OTHER hairs? You scream again.
9. You come home in the middle of the night your roommate threw a party. The party thrower ditched her party, and is sleeping soundly in her bedroom with her boyfriend while two of her friends are making themselves comfortable in your room. One is lying on your bed and barfing on the side.
10. Your roommate signs everyone into a binding 12 months lease (when you wanted 9 months) because she can?t read the damn fine print. She?s a business major.

Now I'm through having friends or randoms live with me. I'm living with my sister for now. What?s great about having my sister as a roommate? My parents allow me to hit her. But I don?t think that would be necessary. =D

Crazy roommates? Back when I actually did have them I had plenty of nutty ones. The two that stick in my mind the most is one who given a chance would rifle through your personal belongings just to see what she could steal. I ended up having the apartment complex install a key lock on my bedroom door just so I could keep her out.

But the one I remember the most was a girl who was a mental patient that her family was trying to rehabilitate. She would do the craziest stuff like strip naked and lie on her bed with the curtains open since we were on the ground level. It wasn?t until later that we found out that she really was mental as the management couldn?t be bothered to tell us that she really was nuts!

Her family ended up having to put her back in an institution as within a very short time she ran away.

Hmm...roommates you say? Well, I'm living with my first roommate, and we get along just fine, except that she's kind of "high maintenance" and I'm the 5-minute prep time, jeans-and-a-t shirt kind of a gal. She's hardly ever here, which is nice for me, because i'm an only child, and I'm used to the solitude (I like it). But the thing that bugs me, is that when she leaves, often times she'll leave the light on. I know, it sounds weird, but I come from the family that's all about the energy saving. And it's not just because she leaves the light on, I tend to look at the lights through eye-hole in our door, to see if she's home (if she is, she usually keeps the door un-locked). If they're on, I might not have to un-lock it, but when I try to open the door, it's locked. T_T; I know, it's just a pet peeve, but it's not that bad.

At least we get along, right?

I?ve had more issues with crazy neighbors than with roommates. I did have one particularly nutty roommate, though she and I never had issues with each other. The problem she had was she was into drugs. It wasn?t a huge issue until her parents cut her off when they found out that she was using the money they sent her for school to pay for her addiction. She would just lie about attending classes and such. Once that happened she got a job, but of course she didn?t make enough to support both herself and her habit.

As a result she was often late paying the rent and started attempting to get into my room to look for money to steal or things to sell to the pawn shop. I knew she had problems so I never left my room unlocked. Then just when the landlady was about to kick her out she suddenly had plenty of money, though where she was getting it from was a mystery. This continued for several months until one day the authorities showed up and arrested her.

Turned out that she was finding kids online using services like myspace and other blogs to convince teenagers to pose nude for pictures, she claimed that she was looking for models for a company in California. She even had a storage place that she rented where the kids could meet her to pose for the pictures. It was pretty easy apparently cause all she had to do was download them onto her computer. Then she would turn around and sell the pictures online. Last I heard she?s still in jail for doing that.

Seems to me like my roomates just had bad habits, and you guys were basically living with psychos.

Indifference, I cannot believe she would stoop so low as to solicit kids like that. That is so sick, I don't even know what else to say but to be disgusted after reading that.

I was just wondering if you guys picked your roomates, or did you just kind of end up with them because of some kind of housing hook-up?

You would just come home to find that the empty room had been taken by a new person.

To be fair, although I had a few horrible roommates, I also had quite a few that I got along with just fine.

Joe was actually a pretty good guy. He made me food sometimes and liked to keep our dorm clean.

There were a couple things that were kind of annoying, but they weren't that bad.

Once, he left for the weekend, but he didn't unset his alarm so it went off in the morning when I was trying to sleep and I had to climb down out of my bed and unplug it because I didn't know how to turn it off.

Another time, it was Spring Break, and he and his girlfriend went off for the week and said they'd be staying somewhere else. I had my girlfriend over, and, well, I thought we were alone so...

anywho, I hear knocking on the door, which freaks me the hell out. Joe came back to our dorm and said he needed some duct tape. I got it for him, and he left again. It's a good thing I locked the door...

Hitting the snooze button 20 times, so that I have to wake up every 10 minutes because he can't be bothered to get up and turn off the effing alarm.

I had a roommate for a semester when I went to Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts. He was pretty cool. Always had some weed and/or beer money and was pretty chill.

When I moved to California, my roommate was a buddy of mine from high school. We were roommates for 10 months. He was kind of an asshole, but so am I so we got along pretty well. I moved out in June, but it took that ****er until 2 weeks ago to get me my share of the security deposit ($300) back.

But now I'm back in Massachusetts, freezing my *** off, and living in a single apartment. The only downside is there is no one to split cleaning with. :(

Well, from the way you guys make it sound, I never want a roomate now!
They can't be all bad, though. Sometimes it's nice to have company...
Well the whole point of this thread was to discuss roomates that annoyed you. If it makes you feel better, over the years while I've been in college I've had eight different roommates and other than the one-druggie girl, all the rest have been just fine. In fact, my current roommate is a great gal and we have a good time going to movies and doing things when we have the chance. ;)
