Ol' Fighter
This thread is specifically for those little things(or big)you do to just get away from the the world around you... Me personally I'm a pretty "free" guy but at times I just gotta get away from things and the main thing I do is go to this abandoned little colony(i think it was) in the woods near me and(!warning this is a little PG!)get free from my clothing. I know it sounds a lil' weird but it is really calming...so calming I got a little following going...and majority of my "followers" are ladys. :D :2women:
Guest Heero yuy
I sometimes do the usual thing, go and watch tv or play a video game. But if it was a bad day, I go to my friend's workshop he has and just fix guitars. Usually my friend's stuff, put new pickups or align necks, clean and polish. Or sometimes I do custom stuff like match headstock colors or re-routing for new pickups.

Albert Flasher
Naked at an abandoned colony, you say? What exactly is an abandoned colony? Like, the kind of colony that the first settlers made when they landed in North America, or, like, a nudist colony in disrepair (Which would be more fitting)? Anyway, I'm generally pretty disconnected from the world at all times thanks to painkillers and that yellow liquid medicine that tastes like banana popsicles. But aside from meds, I usually escape from 'tupid reality by watching hockey games. That's pretty much what I look forward too every day at school. I like to just hole up in my living room on my SuperChair, have a beer and proceed to yell at my television set for the next 3 hours. That's what keeps me sane, believe it or not.
Goodbye, Face
When I have a bad day and don't want to deal with the parents very much, I call up a friend and we go into town to one of two places. 1. Greene Street Club. We really only go here if a show is playing, depending on who is playing (if I know the band well enough, etc) I can usually get me and a friend in for free. If no one's playing, we usually wouldn't go here unless we wanted to play pool or something. 2. Solaris Tapas Bar and Club. Basically, it's a lounge where you order appetizers for a table, instead of a meal for yourself, then you basically split all the food amongst your company. There's always good music playing, and depending on the time, there's usually a couch in the lounge area open. I've spun records there once and my friend sometimes DJ's there. The people there are really nice and you get into deep conversations a lot with people who are a lot older than you. Haha, it's an awesome place, very relaxing atmosphere, nice people. It's my favorite place on the planet. Otherwise, there's always videogames, yeah?
Magus
Can't really say I do much. I'm the loner type so most of the times I like to be alone. (too bad I can never get that time to be alone because a friend, relative, or some random person is always bothering me.) Most of the times though, I go to sleep. (told you, nothing major.) Especially when I'm bored. And I'm bored here in Detroit quite often so.. But on bad days (can't remember the time I ever had a good day) I normally just go to my garage and just lift weights and whatnot. Fixing cars is just a hobby of mine, but working off all the frustration... yeah, can get me away from a lot of things.
Raiyuu
I lose myself in a book. Pratchett and Gaiman's collaboration Good Omens is my go-to volume when I'm in need of a release, but anything will do as long as it gets my mind out of the world I'm actually in. Dare I be the first to say it...? Yes, anime and manga are useful releases. An episode of something light-hearted like Haruhi Suzumiya can really lift my spirits - especially the ENOZ episode - or I'll pick up Bleach and read one of the really stellar fight scenes. Non-Japanese art is also good, obviously. An episode of Farscape, Zach Braff's Garden State, Ben Stiller's Mystery Men... or a meal out with friends. I think that last is probably the most effective, if I'm feeling particularly down about something, but if it's just a getaway I'm looking for then books are the way to go.
Doublehex
If I am ever in the mood that says - if you talk to me, you're a dead man - then I probably just either play videogames or write. I don't go to any special place, or get butt naked like a few individuals here. I just write. Or game. Or both at the same time.
Ikillion
Well as I am usually really pressed for time the most that I can ever even do is daydream. Perhaps its the kind of schooling that I have grown up with but it just feels rather easy for me to slip from reality and just think I am somewhere else. These usually don't last for any more than ten minutes and since I am usually working I can come out of things rather easily. For the longer times though I just mainly do the usual: play videogames, read a book, read/watch some anime or manga nothing to special since finding free time for me seems to be almost imposible these days. When all else fails I just simply sleep, My dreams are always somewhat intresting and being abe to stay in the dream world for a little while is always a good way to escape from the real world.
Sho Ayori
I suppose my problem is when people start to worry to much about me. I personally find it really irritating, because I want and can show that I can look after myself, and I don't need someone watching me every second. If this ever puts me in a bad mood, I either go and sit silently near a river or go by the coast. The sounds calm my nerves. That, and I go away to draw stuff. The only exception I take for this is my younger sister, she's really the only one who I completely open up to. Even when I'm in a bad mood I don't mind her being around. She usually cheers me up anyway, and she often gives me motivation or encouragement.
De-Lor
When things really have my head spinning, i do the obvious, have a drink. But in combination with that I'll either listen to music, sketch, and when Im feeling fidgety, ill take electronics apart and map them out. VCR's used to be the big thing, but I've moved on to cell phones, DVD-players, CD-players, and Im cautiosly testing out computers. What gets you thinking sometimes is when you put it all back together, and somehow you have extra screws....
Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. Not to take a shot at anyone, but I think freeing one's self from the world sounds like running away from reality, and I've done enough of that over the last few years to know you're far better off facing reality. However in the spirit of the thread being about what you do to unwind, mostly I watch movies, I'm a huge movie fan and have rented probably every interesting film from both my local video-stores. Comic books is something I've gotten into lately, Star Wars: Legacy for anyone interested is definitely worth a read if you're a SW fan. Like Raiyuu books are definitely one of my addictions, although sadly I can easily read a 600/700 page book in a day which means I'm regularly without and waiting my next hit. If all else fails to unwind me, then as Ikillion already said, sleep is a wonderful way to relax, unless I end up having that dream about the Ferengi and the herd of cows again, which just leaves me very confused. ^_^'
Hanabishi Recca
I don't really have anything to get away from. I do some things though. I play video games. They really calm me down some how. I guess its just because I get my mind off of whats actually happening. Too bad you can't hide from reality forever though ;) I read sometimes also. Because if its a fictional book then I could pretend I'm them and its all a dream world. Because after I read something I can just 'blow up' that idea in my mind. Music is always a way of excape. I think it is for everyone. Because music can change your mood fast! For example, Eye of the tiger can be a motivational song. So can Heat of a Champion from Nelly. They can change moods faster than a book can ;) Oh God, People undress themselves? Lord Jesus, I've spoke with them before. Why don't they talk to me anymore? HINT HINT HINT! kumi-chanmi
Usually I go and listen to my fav music and bounce and dance and watever, but at other times I write or have one my friends come and I bascically bother him till we have a reason to play fight! :animesmil

Andy
Hmmm....well if i'm in the mood where I just want to go get away from the world, then I usually just go play my violent video games' where I pretend that all the Elites(Halo 2) are my History teacher(she super hateful). Or I might decide to come get on my computer and hook my computer up to my subwoofer and listen to some rock or metal. Or I might just watch some anime or something. Or i'll do pretty much anything else that amuses me as long as it's away from other people. And that's about it, and now you know a little bit about how I spend my day's trying to get away from the rest of the world. Congratulations.
Anakoni Stark
When I want to leave the rest of the world behind I usually do one of the following: 1. play video games, especially Burnout 4, watching / causing things blow up with out getting into trouble makes me (and my inner pyro) happy, I usually think of all the people that have caused me pain on that day, and think of them as the people in the cars, just listening to the screaming tires and loud explosions makes me feel good. 2. I read, usually lenghty science fiction books, I mean I could spend a couple days locked in my room reading a good book or two. 3. play music, when I play those really fast guitar notes, I can feel all the stress leaving through the amp, but if I play too fast I end up with pain. If I dont feel like playing the guitar I just play random notes on a friend's drum kit, but if I'm feeling really mad, I'll play Lycanthrope by [+44] or Shark Attack by Senses Fail on either instruments. 4. or I'll listen to music and play tennis, the pain just melts away from me as I run from point A to point B repeatedly with the high energy punk / techno melting the stress into sweat and I get to let all the anger out on the tennis ball, my spirits will go up if I accidentally hit my oppent. - Fury
Guest wiccangoddess
The title jumped up and grabbed me. I guess to be free I Lose myself to my thoughts and ponderings. I end up writting some awsome poetry or drawing or working on my wall murals. I most want to be free when arguments are going on in my family or if I feel trapped in the mundaneness of life on this earth. Which may tell me why most of my work is focused on the unreal or fantasy. What dreams are made of or mine at least. Thanks for the thought, Jennifer! :catgirl:
Japan
Usually at the point and time something happens it is usually at home and usually I always need to get away from it. Since I do not have a car and since my dog usually puts me in better spirits, I take her on a walk. I let her off the leash at the park and just throw the frisbee or tennis ball around. Or, we even just pounce on eachother for fun. I also bring my cell along to be able to talk to someone...to rant until I settled down enough to take more crap when I get home.
animeniac41
When I have a bad day, I just go and close myself in my room and listen to music or sit and do nothing. That way I can get away from anyone and everyone that's bothering me. Or I go in my basement and play videogames. I don't know exactly how that calms people down though, it just does, and it works for me too. If none of the above helps me at all and it's getting late, than I just go to sleep and try to ignore it.
