Kaho stayed downstairs to wash the dishes.

''I'll help with the dishes since this is the least I could do since I didn't cook. It's always been my rule," said Kaho as she brought the dishes to the sink and started washing them.

"Fine with me. I help too if you wnat," said Kai putting dishes in the sink.

"No, I'm fine. I think I can do it."

Kai smiled as he watched her grab another plate. "Well, I really don't care if you are ok by yourself." He smiled as she turned to him, a little stunned. "Because, I am going to help you anyway."

Kaho smiled a little and went back to washing the dishes. "You are a little stubborn. Why do you want to help so much? Its like you are becoming attracted to me or something?" She glanced at him for a reaction.

"Huh? No, thats not true. I, uh, am not used to people being here, so, its only natural that I try to help out. It would feel weird if I let you all do everything." He let out a face laugh and went back to washing the dishes.

Rita gnawed on her piece of meat happily, just observing the others interacting. She thought that she remembered once doing something vaguely similar, but no clear memories came to her. She looked around the room, studying each of the faces. If she couldn't remember the old ones, she make newer memories and keep those instead. She swalled a chunk of steak whole, having finally ripped it off from the rest. After some more gnawing, she finished her steak and watched with some barely concealed amusement as Kaho and Kai determined who was doing dishes. She stood up quietly and left the house quietly. Stadning in the quiet forest, she thought she could hear a stream nearby. She felt awfully dry and tired, and figured that no one notice if she snuck off for a quick fifteen minute dip.

"Neechan!" Mariko said, running up to Ari as she entered their small apartment.

"Hey, how was school?" Ari said, bending down to catch Mariko and pick her up.

"It was boring. We were going voer Anima, but I already knew all that stuff cause you taught me." Mariko said in dissapointment.

"Still, it's good to know and not everyone has someone in their family that knows as much about anima as I do." Ari reminded Mariko.

"I know, but still..." Mariko trailed off as Ari let her down. Mariko looked nervous for a moment. "Um, neechan? Are you going out again tonight?" Mariko asked. Ari looked down at Mariko apologetically.

"Yes. I promise I'll be back to see you off in the morning, though." Ari replied.

Tankyo heard all the sounds of the night and silently went through the window and sat on a tree. "This is nice and quiet. Too bad that this moment wouldn't last forever," she said when suddenly her ears pricked. "I sense someone in the distance." She sniffed the air and she could smell human coming towards their direction but she couldn't be for sure since it was pretty far away.

Kaho had just finished the dishes and hung up the rag. She then walked out of the kiten and upstairs. She said goodnight to Kai, Rita, Cali and Aurora, and Ruby. She went into her room and opened the window. She smelled the nice cool crisp air and looked outside. She was liking the town the in the distance with it's lights on. She could see the lights of houses like the lights she used to see when she would fly over a city. She knew that every one of those lights meant that someon was alive. She remembered that from her mother and looked at a town at night from far away to remember what her parents looked like.

Kaho started to cry since the day her mother left her and tears were rolling down her face. She started sniffing and you could sorta hear it but barely. She tried to not make anyone frightened or sad so she kept it to herself. She closed the window and went to bed.

Kai watched Cali walk into Kaho's room. He smiled a faint smile and looked down at the floor. "So, it may have jus begun here, but it will never end with her." He smiled faintly and knocked on her door. "Uhh, is there anything you need in there?" He heard her mumble out a no as best she could. He then slowly turned back and walked downstairs and out to the back porch.

"Kai, someone is comming. Whoever it may be, is coming fast." Kai looked up in a tree to see Tankyo staring into the woods, pretty hard.

"Do you know who it is? Is it someone that could be harmful?" Kai said, turning back to the woods. He knew that he was asking for that small hope that they would be friend, not foe.

"No, I think I know who this person is. She is a hunter of sorts. She has been going after Rita for a while now. I even smelled this person on you when you got back from the town, want to explain that?" Tankyo said, not looking away from the woods.

"I think I know who you are talking about. When I went to town, I ran into this girl. She looked a little rough, so I said excuse me, and tryed to be on my way, but she asked me a few questions. I answered them, and then left." He glanced at her then he saw his sword sitting on the porch behind him. He slowly walked over to it and strapped it to his back.

"What do you plan on doing? Because right now, I don't think it wold be a safe idea to go and see this person by yourself." Tankyo said, junping down from the tree and landing next to him.

"Well, then will you go with me? Truthfully, I think it would be a smarter idea as well. I don't like the feel of this. It doesn't feel right. But, when we do catch up to this person, I do think it would be best for you to wait in the trees. They might get an idea and try to start an all out war." He watched her nod, then looked up at the only window with a light on.

"I hope she will be ok if we go." He shook his head and smiled. "Stop it, she will be fine. Alright, Tankyo, lets go." He turned around and walked into the woods, her fallowing him.

Tankyo walked along side Kai and made sure to not get caught by the person who was out there. They walked for awhile stopping every now and then to make sure that they weren't getting too close. Tankyo was sensing the presence more and more as they walked. Suddenly, she stopped. "What is it, Tankyo?" said Kai as he wondered why she stopped so suddenly

"Kai, I smell the person. She seems to be onto us and is coming in closer. I will hide in the trees so wait here until she comes," said Tankyo as she went up into the trees.

"Alright, I gotcha," he said when a girl suddenly appeared in front of him while Tankyo watched them talk in the trees.

Rita sighed as she slipped into the cool stream. Nothing beat a good soak in a stream. Except playing with that Ari woman. She was loads of fun to taunt and play with. Rita leaned back against the streams embankment. She thought she could smell someone coming closer, but she didn't put as much trust in her nose on ladn as she did in water.

Ari was surprised to see the boy that she met up in the city approaching her. To think he was out this way, where the shark freak had gone. Maybe he had something to do with where she was hiding. As he came within hearing distance, she called out to him. "Hey, long time no see." She said.

Kaho knew that Cali wanted to comfort her so she said, "Well I don't think I want to share just quite yet. It's a little early to explain things that are bothering me. So I'll tell you when I think that the time is right. Okay Cali?"

Cali nodded and sat there with Kaho looking out the window and seeing the town filled with lights.

Kai watched her get closer. "What are you doing here? Why are you out in the woods?" He watched her shrug, then look back behind her.

"I was out for a stroll. Why, is there something out here that I should know about?" She gavea faint smile, then looked at him.

"Nothing I can think of. My dog started to bark, so I came out here to find out what he was getting all riled up about." He squinted his eyes, trying to see her face a little better in the moonlight.

"Oh, you have a dog. I would love to see it. What kind is it?" She took a step closer to him then looked up in the trees as a faint noise was heard. "What was that?" She looked harder at the trees, then turned back to Kai.

He looked up for a second, then looked back at her. "Somehow, I think it would be better if you left and went home."

"Are you trying to get rid of me? ITs not a very nice thing to do, you know?" She gave a small smile then turned around. "But, it looks like you have your reasons."

"I am not hiding anything. I am a hobbit, I guess you could say. In town, yes I am nice, but only because I must be to be able to get my shopping done. I do not like people snooping around my home. Its a family trait. So, please, just leave me be, I do not need anyone else to come by my home today. Not after that anima came today." He turned around slowly and started to walk away when a hand came and touched his shoulder, turning him around.

"What are you talking about? What did it look like?" There was a hint of anger in her eyes.

"I am not sure. She did not look like she was made for land though. Shark maybe. Why do you ask? Are you after her?" Kai asked, a littel curiosity in his voice.

"Yes, can you tell me where it went? I need to find her!" She gripped harder on his shoulder be fore he grabbed her wrist and pulled it off.

"Listen, I told you, I sent her off. She headed west of here, back twards the town, I guess you could say. She probable headed north after that." He watched her smile, then run off in the way she came. A few minutes later Tankyo came out of the trees and landed behind Kai.

"She is after Rita, isn't she?" She watched Kai nod. "What does this mean?"

"It means that you have to lay low now. There will be no leaving the house, only in emergencies." He turned around and started walking back twards the house.

"This will be bad if that hunter finds Rita. If she finds Rita, the after that she might be able to track us and find us none the less," said Tankyo as she walked beside Kai.

"You do have a point. We will make sure that everyone stayes inside and don't wander off too far," said Kai as he looked to the sky.

"The sky is wonderful isn't it? I love the night sky filled with all of its stars."

"I like the night sky too. It's so nice at night that all your troubles go away."

They walked back to the house and all the lights were off. Tankyo went upstairs to bed and Kai stayed downstairs.

Kaho went downstairs when Cali fell asleep on her bed. She tucked Cali in her bed and closed the door. She walked downstairs and saw Kai sitting on the couch.

"Hey there Kai. What's up? I saw you with Tankyo earlier," she said.

"Well I went with Tankyo since she sensed someone coming to my home. I told her that I didn't see anything and said that I don't like people who are on my property or come near my house," replied Kai.

"Oh, I see. So there was someone out there trying to find Rita. I've heard from Rita that some hunter was after her and probably followed her here to this town. So I assume that was her that you met earlier."

"Yeah it was. I told her that Rita went west and then north from there. So I think she believed me."

Kaho sat down with Kai and they talked for a while.

Tankyo was upstairs sitting near the window. She wasn't the type to sleep and enjoyed staying up looking at the moon. "I just wish that times like these wouldn't have to be such a breeze," she said as she looked at the moon and remebered her past and how goood it was before she had to run away because her family told her to. Soon Tankyo started to cry but stopped and looked at the stars.

Kai leaned forward and took in a deep breath. "What is it? Whats wrong?" KAho asked, turning to him.

"Its only going to get harder now. I hd thought that I created a break for you all, but it turns out that I was wrong. I am sorry for what I have done, its not what I meant to do." He turned and looked at her. She smiled at him and leaned back into the couch.

"It is ok. It was great, what you did and all, but we all knew that it would not last. Something bad was going to happenen, it was only a matter of time. It just happenend alot sooner than anyone expected." He put his head in his hands and took in another deep breath. He closed his eyes and gave a small grunt.

"There is something else, isn't there? What else are you thinking?" She leaned up next to him and tured to him.

"I don't know what to do. We could run, but, I don't know to where. There is nowhere to go. We maybe trapped here." He rubbed his eyes, then stopped as Kaho leaned on his shoulder.

"It will be fine. We could always go to the place where your parents have set up for animas." She looked up at him with a smile, then lost it as he shook his head.

"They were killed when I was a boy. They had tought me to care for all living creatures, so I have grown up to do so. I do not hate the animas that killed them, only pity them. The refuge my family created was destroyed a few years back. So far, I guess you could say that this is one of the only ones left on this side of the country." He smiled as Kaho sat up.

"Well, there is nothing you can do tonight. You need to get some sleep/ Tomarrow, we will set up a plan for people to stand a little watch." Kai nodded and leaned back into the couch.

"That will work for a short amount of time, but what about in the long run?" He turned to her, confusion on his eyes.

Cali woke up to relize that she was all alone in the room. She got up and went downstaires and went ovr to Kai and Kaho. She smiled and jumped on Kai's lap. " Sorry I never got to say thanks to anyone for helping me and my mamma" She looked around. "Where is she anyway"

Aurora had wanderd away from the house and was near a river gazing at the stars. "Why would a human go to great lengths to protect us its all way to fishy if you ask me" She sighed. "Sooner or later we'll find out exactly what he's up to and then they'll be sorry. I just wish things were alot simpiler than they are now" Just the somthing hit here on the head."Owwww! Where did that come from" She looked down to see a nut laying beside her. She looked up to see a squirrel. "It's okay" She was surprised sny other time she would of yelled but she found herself getting the nut, jumping into the tree and gigiving it to the squirrel "Be more careful next time" The squirrel sqeaked a thanks but there was more to it that she seemd to under stand. "Be careful, there are some bad people wandering the woods" It squeked."Okay I will" she replyd and with that the squirrel left. 'That was very interesting'She thought.

"Well in the long run I guess we'll have to do the beast that we can. I don't know what else to do except to run and run until we find the home of the animas," replied Kaho.

She looked up at the time and said, "We better get going to bed. Tomorrow will be another day to plan out and come up of things from there. So, good-night Cali and Kai."

"Good-night,"said Kai.

"Nighty night," said Cali.

Kaho went upstairs to her room and shut the door. She went over to her bed and went to sleep.

Rita watched the proceedings with a small bit of confusion. She had returned from her dip in the stream to find everyone like this. What was wrong with everyone? So what if the Ari woman knew about them. That would just make things more fun and interesting. It was boring with no one to play with.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ari grumbled to herself as she waited in the limbs of one of the trees. She knew that kid was lying. But she didn't want to hurt him, he was just misguided and confused. It was the anima that were the problem. The shark girl, and possibly more. The shark girl would be trouble enough if they got anywhere near water, but until she met the others she'd have no clue of their abilities. She'd have to plan things very carefully.

After Kaho went upstaires Cali looked at Kai."It's nice to hang out with other people for a change but," Cali paused for a moment."But I don't know how long my mamma will stay with everyone"

Aurora jumped down from the tree and started wandering deeper into the woods.By the time she stopped she was right beneath the tree that Ari was in, not knowing that she was in there.

That night everyone had gone to bed. They slept without knowing about the danger that they were in.

the next day they were all ready to head off. Kaho wanted to get an early start and didn't want to stay in one for very long.

"Why do you have to leave you know that you can stay here in saftey," said Kai.

"I'm sorry Kai, but we have to get moving or we won't be able to find the other animas. You do have a very nice home but what you said about that Ari girl, I don't think that we're safe here. If we don't leave soon then that woman will find us and kill us," replied Kaho.

"Yeah, if we don't leave soon then we'll endanger you too, Kai," said Tankyo.

"Come you guys, I can sense that lady coming!" shouted Ruby.

"Kai if you want you can come with us," said Kaho.

"Really? That'd be great! Just let me get a few things," said Kai running to get the things he needed then came back to the group.

They all put their hoods on and left the house and headed for the hills were they thought the animas were.

The Ari woman had gone to the house and found it empty. "Curse you animas. One of these day I will hunt you and kill you from the face of the earth," said the Ari woman in anger.

The group had gone so far that they couldn't see the little twon anymore and they couldn't even see Kai's house.

They headed towards the mountains for safety and shelter for the night. "Man, that was a long walk. I'm so tired," said Tankyo as she sat down near an entrance to a cave.

"We'll rest here for the night and then head out again in the morning," said Kaho as everyone set their things down and rested.

"This is a nice little place. Seems to have been used before," said Kai as he sat down.

"It has," said Tankyo," I can smell the scent of humans."

They settled down for the night and went to sleep waiting for the morning to come.

Ari cursed to herself. She should have kept a closer watch on that boy, making sure to the Anima before they escaped. This would be a serious setback in her plans. She'd wouldn't be able to make it back to send Mariko off to school. Maybe in a coulpe of days. If they kept moving at a good rate, though, she'd have to turn around and relocate her home closer by where they were headed. This group of Anima was too big to pass up, and it had her current contract target in it anyways. She looked back towards the mountains. She'd catch them there, before they got any farther. She wouldn't let them escape beyond the mountains.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rati followed the group almost mindlessly. Why did these people insist on running? It only made things harder. They were comfortable with food and bed at the last place. By moving, they would be put at a disadvantage in the game. They'd be hungry, tired, and wouldn't know their surroundings well. Moving was only to be done when the lady had caught on to your tricks in the area. Why these people insisted on playing the game this way confused her, but she would try and help them as best she could. That woman was undoubtedly following them, though. This group left a messy trail behind, one she could easily follow.

Cali's paws hurt from walking the whole distance, though she said nothing. As they reached the cave she layed down, her paws red and raw from the journey. The pads on her feet had been warndown so much that they had begun to bleed awhile ago.

Aurora had stoped to notice Cali cleaning her paws, but had also realizied the blood coming off. She picked her up and walked in the cave then whispered to her "We'll fix it in the morning I promise" With that she fell asleep.

Kaho knew that everyone was tired and they all decided to sleep in the cave until dawn.

"Come in here you guys. This will do until dawn," said Kaho.

The group had all gone inside the cave and began to rest. Kaho stayed awake to make sure that the woman Kai had been talking about wasn't following them.

She looked out of the cave and could see that the sun was setting, meaning that another day she was able to live. She looked back at the cave and saw that everyone was sleeping and she looked back out to see that there were many colors in the sky and the sun was setting just beyond the mountains. The sun was big but you could only see half of it and yet it had a comforting feeling to it. Kaho laid down and watched as the sun set and everything went dark.

Kaho went out and found some sticks to light a fire. She came back and started the fire to make sure that everyone was warm. Kaho still went back to the front of the cave and watching the scenery.
