cancer
So I'm a senior in high school right now, and the problem for me with college besides finances is that I live in a state with no good art schools. I'm wanting to go to a school like Parsons or some other art school. Does anyone know any good scholarships that I can apply to that there's a good chance I could get. I have a 25 on the ACT, roughly a 3.5 GPA, any help would be appreciated.
visualkei
Hm... My best advice would be to apply to the school and simultaneously apply to the scholarships the college offers. I don't know if you're still offered scholarships if you want to go to an out of state school... I don't remember, it's been a while since I've applied to college. Anywayz, you should try checking out the scholarships the specific school offers. I think a lot of scholarships from the school goes unclaimed. I've had no success applying to random scholarships in my senior year in high school. It wasn't until I went to college and discovered they offered scholarships there, and I applied. Sara
Talk to your high school's advisor. They should have one. Failing that, you can look at Fastweb, but be aware that as soon as I signed up for it, I started getting a ton of spam from different companies. Might want to use a throwaway email.
AzureWolf
You'll get a lot of financial aid packages from schools if they really want you. You can all get a full tuition scholarship if you really rock or they really want you. But for the rest of us, we just use FastWeb. It's a neat service where you have to work for your scholarships, but you usually can score quite a few.
Sara
*rolls eyes* Yeah, God forbid that you have to work for scholarships, Azure. :p Also, make sure you fill out your FAFSA form when that time comes around. If art's what you're interested in, you can also just try googling "art scholarships." See what you get, and refine your search from there. Incidently, you're applying to art school?how does your portfolio look?
Adahn
You say you live in a state with no good art schools, but remember, schools jack tuition up quite a bit for out of state students. Consider your financial situation, and how you plan on using your education to make money. My parents don't have a lot of money, so I picked an in-state school with many scholarships awarded for academic achievement. Many universities have good art programs, even if they aren't an 'art school', and I'm sure there is something in your state that will save you a huge hassle as finances become an issue later in life.
