Papa Smurf
http://www.goldeneyeforever.com/wii_games_wii_nintendo_goldeneye.php Not sure if it's Kosher to post anything about these guys, but I found their site last night when searching for some older GE Gameshark codes for enhanced console multiplayer and then came across this page. They have set-up walkthroughs for most of the process of getting GE to run on a PC in high-rez and such, and I think it's only exceedingly complicated due to them insisting on playing with four TVs. Even so, most players would be fine with a single TV. I figured I'd post this here to see what y'all think...I'm figuring on goofing around with this set-up later tonight, to see how I can work it here. If it does appear like it'll work, I'll probably start looking into a state of the art laptop to run this. It'll make the whole AV porting a hell of a lot easier, especially only using one TV. Desbreko
Better framerates and longer draw distance looks nice. But until I can use a keyboard and mouse I still won't be too impressed. GoldenEye itself may have held up pretty well over time but the control scheme definitely hasn't.
Papa Smurf
They mainly go into how to use the N64 controllers, but the keyboard/mouse is supported. I saw some documentation on there somewhere.
Desbreko
Hmm... Maybe I will have to look into this after all. Being able to set up GE to use mouselook would make the game way more fun for me. Oh, and I forgot to mention, linking to them is fine. They're don't host or link to ROMs of the game, and the emulators themselves are perfectly legal, so they're good.
Papa Smurf
It's a shame that Desbreko is the only one replying so far, though not very surprising. Most of the people here are only mildly interested in the basics of gaming, and that's disappointing, because most will never even care that a handful of hackers online have figured out a way to alter GoldenEye so that weapons can be modified (even the Klobb), levels can be changed, item placements can be re-worked, armor can be totally removed, single-player missions can be transformed into multiplayer arenas...the list goes on and on. And even Caves multiplayer is being turned into a View to a Kill mission versus Mayday. The main site is plenty informative, but the GoldenEye Hacking forum is pure gold. These guys are brilliant; if anyone has any remote interest at all in game design, they need to look at what these guys are doing.
Semjaza
I think what they've done is pretty interesting and I certainly commend them for it. At the same time, I've never personally really got that super into Goldeneye's multiplayer because I always had heavy access to PC shooters that I felt were a bit more entertaining on that end. To each their own with that. It's still cool, either way. I'm kind of surprised anyone has bothered to do this much with it, since it would probably be easier to model these levels in another FPS game for fun.
