Jonas winded is camera, readying the zoom to the perfect level. He switched the fstop so that if the Pokémon he was about to take a picture of moved, the picture wouldn't have any blur.

Opening his side pack, Jonas pulled out a travel-sized tripod for his camera and connected the two, steadying his tripod in the perfect position.

The subject of the picture was a brown cat Pokémon named Eevee. It had hair around the neck that looked like a mane, intriguing Jonas. Since he was a little way back (giving the Pokémon some room) nobody thought he was taking a picture of it. That's why Jonas wasn't surprised when a lady that seemed about 20 just waltzed by and sat right infront of the camera to observe the Pokémon.

He sighed and put the camera away, not bothering to say anything.

That's what you get for trying to take a picture in a crowded area. He thought to himself. Once everything was put away, he decided to look for a Pokémon. That's when something bumped into his foot, obviously not watching where it was going.

Jonas looked behind him and knelt down in front of the clumsy Pokémon, Swinub. It was around 1'4" and was just covered in brown fur, save for it's wet pink nose. Jonas picked the little guy up.

"Aww, well aren't you just the cutest thing ever!" he said in a high-pitched voice. He took a Pokéball off his belt, expanded it and tapped the pig on the nose.

Matt sat on a hill as he observed the people running through the nursery. Some of them were observing the pokemon that lived peacefully in the nursery, while others were so excited over the event that they picked the first pokemon that crossed their path.

Idiots.

He didn?t belong here. He didn?t care for pokemon. He could care less that trainers were treating them more like objects than living beings. It wasn?t his problem. Let someone else deal with it. Just let him live his life the way that he wants to live it.

?Being observant as always?? Matt turned to see the Professor standing over him. ?Can I sit here??

?Why you asking me? Its your nursery. You can do what you want.?

?But I?m asking. Can I sit here??

??Sure. Its not like its taken or anything.?

?You know, I heard a story long ago. There was a man who hated women because his mother betrayed him when he was a boy. She would work night sifts at a processing plant, and when she came home he would be fast asleep. She never found herself in the man;s life. So, he made sure not to make woman a part of his life. He went though high school not even joking about stuff normal teenage boys joke about. He didn?t even look at woman the way he should. But one day, he met this beautiful woman who took his breath away. It wasn?t because of her beauty, though.?

?Oh??

?She was beautiful because she was just like him. Her mother died long ago, and she barely saw her father because of his work. So she never wanted to have any man come into her life. But when they first talked, something clicked.?

?Then what happened??

?Matt, I think you already know the rest.?

Matt just sighed and stared back at the nursery.

?Get going. You know something is out there for you.? With that, the Professor kicked him lightly, although it was harsh enough to send Matt rolling down the hill. And as per to Murphy?s law, Matt didn?t stop rolling until he hit something. Alas for him, that something was a tree.

?God!? Matt shook his head, but the pain didn?t go away. Using the tree as support, Matt rose up. When he turned, he saw what he swore looked like a monkey with fire hovering near its butt.

He slapped his head to make sure he wasn?t delusional.

The monkey with the fire butt was still there.

He was delusional.

?So what the hell are you looking at?? It didn?t say anything. ?Go on scram!? The pokemon followed the command?to an extent. It swung from a tree limb to the tree Matt crashed into. It placed itself right on a tree limb above Matt. ?Well screw you then. I don?t even know why I?m still here.? With that, he left.

When he turned a corner, the monkey pokemon was still around that corner as well. ?God, what do I have to do to get rid of you?? It stuck its tongue out at him in response. Frustrated, Matt pulled his hair and fell to the ground. Intrigued, the pokemon went closer.

?What do you want??

Surprisingly enough, it shrugged.

?Can you understand me, you big-ass monkey butt??

It mooned him in response.

?I guess you?re not as stupid as you make yourself out to be.? He sighed. ?You?re not gonna leave me, are you??

It nodded its head. Not for a looong time, jackass.

Matt looked around, to see if one of the visitors decided to be a jerk. He didn?t find anyone. ?That wasn?t you, was it??

It mooned him again.

Oh yes.

?What?s up with you? Don?t you want to leave people alone? Don?t ya have any girlfriends to screw with or something?? It didn?t say anything. ?You?re stuck with me, huh?? It clapped it hands. Now you?re getting it! ?I might as well accept it then?? Matt unclipped the pokeball from his belt. ?Now, what did I have to do again? Just throw it?? Acting on his intuition, he decided to give it a shot. He lightly dropped it on the pokemon?s head.

Instantly the pokemon was absorbed in a ray of light, and slipped into the pokeball. Matt went down to pick it up, but when he did, it exploded.

?The hell!? The pokemon was even more pissed, though. It was screaming and hollering at its trainer. ?You don?t like being confined, do ya??

It nodded angrily.

?Whatever. Lets go back to Oaks place?.but don?t even think of farting.?

He could have sworn he saw it grin.

?I guess I?ll just call you Scimnio?since you?re an ape that has fire.?

The grin grew into a smile. ?He liked it? I thought it was kind of crappy??

Demetri ran with the others as soon as Professor Oak released them from his presence, soon slowing down his run to a slow walk as he traveled through the pokemon catacombs.

"...How in the world will I find my way back?" Demetri thought, regaining his air supply from the short sprint. Demetri looked around, now nervous that he saw no sign of anyone whom he had previously met earlier. This added insult to injury since Demetri knew how many people walked into the Professor's home and since Demetri didn't know the Professor's home was this huge.

"...Must be an underground labyrinth..." Demetri finally concocted inside his mind, finally stopping in the 'middle of nowhere'. Looking around, Demetri saw a small dirt mound and decided to sit next to it in order to regain his sense of direction before continuing. As Demetri sat down, he thought about his family members Pokemon and all the different types of Pokemon they had. Though his neices, nephews, mom and dad, aunts and uncles - all under one giant roof, mind you - had great Pokemon for different uses - battling being the primary - his grandfather had the greatest Pokemon in Demetri's eyes, though he had only heard stories of both his Grandpa and the Pokemon...

...A Snorlax.

Grandpa's Shayne's Snorlax was apparantly the protector of his entire family. Respectfully nicknamed 'Bodyguard' for grandpa's excellent trainer abilities while Snorlax battled off a gang of burglers, Snorlax was a one-of-a-kind powerhouse. When Grandpa married Grandma back in his younger years, she died soon after from an unknown heart disease. Grandpa wept for years before taking off on a small adventure soon afterwards, leaving Mom - now a young adult along with grandpa's relatives tagging along with her - as the woman of his house. After Mom met and married Dad soon afterwards, Mom always told the growing newborn, Demetri, stories of how Grandpa went off on his own adventures, looking for the one Pokemon that Grandma Shayne wanted to catch before her untimely death...

As Demetri stared off into space, thinking about his family tree and the multiple stories of his grandfather, a scratchy feeling on his back broke his concentration. Refocusing on where he was, Demetri soon felt the earth move against him. Demetri leapt up into the air, performing a 180 degree spin in mid-air in order to see what was behind him as his feet hit the ground.

"What in the...?!"

As the small dirt mound shook and crumbled, Demetri realized that the dirt mound wasn't moving [in a sense], it was instead dissapearing. Curious, Demetri walked closer to the dissapating hilltop to see a figure becoming more and more visable as the dirt dissapeared. As the figure became apparent, Demetri's eyes widened.

"...Grandma's Shayne's Pokemon?!..."

Sure enough, a fairly sized Larvitar was eating away the fresh dirt that the Professor had layed out to his heart's content. The Larvitar looked at Demetri with unexpressed eyes before walking up to him in it's own curiosity. Demetri stood at his fixed location, frozen, looking at the Pokemon he had heard Mom talking about for nearly two decades. Demetri wanted to cry; it was the one time, besides being punished, that Demetri wanted to cry to himself. Yet this type of feeling in his stomach wasn't pain nor anger he felt... but happiness.

"...Grandma Shayne!" Demetri said half-excited, gently grabbing the Larvitar and hugging it as best as he could without hurting himself due to the Pokemon's sharp body. The Larvitar, confused, soon lightened up and returned Demetri's hug by rubbing it's warm and soft nose onto Demetri's neck. Only then did Demetri begin to silently cry to himself for a moment.

30 minutes later...

Professor Oak stood by the entrance, keeping watch on the other trainers and the paths they took so as not to get lost in his own personal Pokemon Maze. Demetri walked up to the Professor soon afterwards, a smile apparant on his face. Professor Oak spoke at Demetri's gleefulness.

"So? Did you catch a Pokemon, as expected Demetri?" The Professor asked.

"I sure did sir." Demetri answered. "I think I caught one of the Pokemon my late Grandmother Shayne was trying to obtain..." Demetri showed the Professor the Pokeball.

"Oh?" the Professor replied. "And is it another great fire-type pokemon that most of the others have obtained already?"

Demetri pushed the button on the Pokeball while staring Professor Oak in his eyes.

"No sir. This Pokemon holds sort of a ...sentimental value instead." The Pokeball opened, emitting it's standard red glow, the Pokemon becoming slowly visable to Oak. The Professor's jaw semi-dropped.

"Well i'll be. My only Larvitar." the Professor stated.

"You mean... you only have one?!"

"Why yes." Oak stated. "Larvitar's are a very rare catch; most trainers are lucky to see even one or two during their whole lives, let alone catch one."

Demetri looked at the Professor's eyes and Oak seemed to know what Demetri was thinking, smiling back at him.

"Of course, since you caught it fair and square..."

Demetri hugged Oak tightly with those words, knowing it was okay to keep the Larvitar.

"Thank you so much Professor!"

And with that, Demetri and Larvitar walked into the meeting area...

==========O==========

OOC: Sorry it was so long... I thought of this story while I was at work today. =] I'll check over it later for errors.

Ronyo had walked away from everyone as soon as Oak let them go. He managed to find a grove of trees put together to resemble a forest.

?if its good enough for pokemon, its good enough for me.?

Ronyo began his walked towards the distant makeshift forest still with his long brown leather coat on. The wind had decided to pick up again, so Ronyo pulled his coat closer to him to keep it from flapping about. Thoughts were jumbling around his head like crazy. He had heard Oak tell them about his talk with Lance, he had heard about the lack of decent trainers, and he most defiantly heard Oak tell them to choose a pokemon to start their own journey. When he got the letter from oak he was pretty sure what it was about. Not many people went to Oak?s and left without a pokemon. Still that didn?t make the shock any less real. He would be going on a quest to become a great trainer.

?A great trainer?.what the hell does that even mean? Am I suppose to become a gym leader, change the world outlook on human pokemon relations, or even defeat the famous Elite Four. Can one man really change and effect so much? I wonder if I could?..? Ronyo was stopped by a sound. It sounded like a howl but something seemed odd about it. The howl seemed like a cry for help.

Not being one to sit and watch Ronyo took the last few paces towards the makeshift forest with fast strides. He made it inside the trees but couldn?t see anything that could have made that noise. Then he heard it again but fainter, Ronyo raced in the direction and when he found the noise he stopped. It was a Houndour and it was holding itself up with one paw. It had a bite mark on its left front leg that was being tucked under its belly. Facing it was an Ekans, and a mean looking one at that. The snake pokemon was moving in a way to suggest it was about to strike. The houndour couldn?t take another hit from those poisonous fangs but the houndour glared at the Ekans as if daring the pokemon to do it. The Ekans lunged in and the Houndour opened its mouth and let out a ember shoot that sailed over its attacker. The Ekans opened its mouth ready to bite down, but stopped. Its head was being held inches from the houndour?s muzzle. Ronyo stood holding on to the poisonous pokemon.

?I love all pokemon, but you my friend need a new point of view. Just so happens I?m now a trainer as such I?ll give you a free move. Its called fly!? With that Ronyo chunked the Ekans over the trees until it disappeared from sight.

Ronyo smiled and looked down at the houndour. It stared at him and then bowed its head in what could only be taken as a thank you. Ronyo knelt down and put a hand on the wolf pokemon?s head. His hand brushed the dark pokemon?s thick hair and the slowly went down to the wounded leg. The houndour growled but only in contexts to the pain. As Ronyo looked at the bite he could see the pokemon was poisoned. Ronyo stood up and looked around at the trees and bushes surrounding him. His eyes caught sight of what he was looking for.

?Don?t worry I will be right back.?

Ronyo ran off through some bushes and returned shortly after with a handful of Pecha Berries. He held one out to the houndour and the pokemon devoured it within seconds. Within what seemed like the same amount of time the houndour stood up on all fours. It licked its old wound then looked at the man who had just helped him. It walked over to Ronyo and sat down waging its tail.

?Oh, so I see your better now, that?s good.?

Ronyo knelt down again and stroked the pokemon fur again.

?That?s it, good boy?..I?m assuming of course you?re a boy right??

The houndour barked and licked Ronyo?s face
?I take that as a yes. Well how would you like to come with me on my new quest? Together we can figure out what a good trainer is suppose to be and aspire to, how?s about that??

The houndour waged its tail faster and jumped on to Ronyo. The houndour?s front paws where resting on Ronyo?s shoulders.

?Sounds like a yes to me. You?ll need a name though huh? Let me see???well I know its kind of morbid but how about Anubis, since you were so close to death when I found you.?

The pokemon seemed to be thinking it over. True the name was a bit on the darker side, but then again houndour was a dark pokemon. With that in mind Houndour gave another bark to accept his new name. Ronyo smiled as he pulled out the poke ball Oaks assistant had given them. He held it out to show Anubis what he was going to do.

?Out and in alright. We gotta make it legit now.?

Ronyo put the ball on the ground and watched as Anubis touched it with his paw. Anubis vanished into the poke ball instantly. The ball didn?t even shake the light went off as soon as Anubis was in the ball. Before Ronyo could pick the ball up to release his new friend Anubis popped out.

?Well then, it seems you?re a step ahead of me. So what do you say we get back to the meeting room??

Anubis gave a bark and the two began to walk back towards Professor Oaks meeting room.

Well, I can certainly understand why Oak wanted me for this, Aesera thought as she walked out onto the field. If there's anything I learned from Ro, it's how to properly treat Pokemon. Now, if Katrina's right, then Ro arranged for a certain Pokemon to be made available. I guess it's time to go find it.

Aesera didn't have to search for long. It helped that she new exactly what Pokemon she was looking for. And she wasn't looking for it just because her brother had made sure that it was there. She'd have looked for one anyways, because it was indeed a Pokemonshe liked. She didn't share her brother's obsession with it, but she did like it. And before long, she'd found it.

Aesera approached the Absol, grabbing a Pokeball as she did so. She didn't throw it, though. Instead, she expanded it, placed it on the ground in front of the Absol, and stepped back. "Rule number one," she said to herself, thinking of what her brother always said. "Respect the Pokemon's status as an individual. Do not claim ownership of it, because you don't own it. Let it choose whether or not it wants to accompany you."

The Absol looked at the Pokeball for a few seconds, then reached a decision and bumped into it. The Opkeball opened, and Absol was taken inside of it. Aesera picked up the Pokeball and looked at it. "Well, I guess we're partners now," she said. "Let's do our best on our journey."

Having found a Pokemon, Aesera returned to the meeting room, sat in the same chair she'd been in previously, and waited for everyone to find a Pokemon.

Back in the meeting room, where the original group waited for so long, people were coming back in wearing beaming smiles or a heavy burden from aquiring their new partners. Demetri wasn't surprised when he heard Professor Oak saying that most other trainers had caught fire-type pokemon, Demetri verifying the statement by seeing it with his own eyes. As he walked into the meeting room with his Larvitar, now inside of his Pokeball, the other trainers looked towards the new trainer walking through the door. Demetri was able to find a chair this time and sat down in it, not wanting to stand on the wall any longer, staring at the other trainers with their fire Pokemon who were now staring back at him. Demetri closed his eyes and like clockwork he heard a voice of one of the trainers.

"Where's your Pokemon Demetri?" A voice said. Demetri didn't care to know who said it.

"In my Pokeball... where it belongs." Demetri said. He felt like a heartless bastard for saying it but he hated being like everyone else. True, Demetri liked Pokemon like everyone else but he wasn't one to conform to other's rules all too well.

A moment of silence passed, Demetri knowing that everyone was thinking that he was, in fact, a heartless bastard. Demetri never opened his eyes.

"I'm not like everyone else." Demetri kept repeating inside his head. "I'm not."

Nate found himself wandering around Oak's lab while the other trainers "mingled", he'd had the chance a few years before hand to become a trainer, but school had seemed more important at the time and he'd chosen to finish high school. AJ had been his brash self as usual, leading to a snort of irritation from his older brother, he hated having attention drawn to himself.

?Nathan, I'm glad to see you took up my offer.?

Nate turned to see Oak leaning against an adjacent wall observing a few of the other arrivals, Oak hadn't changed that much in the four years since Nate had seem him in person last, a few more white hairs, a few new creases, but essentially the same man from before. Adjusting his jacket, Nate moved over and stood beside the professor.

?I remember the first time you came here, you were very eager to take the challenge... I'm glad in ways you decided to wait a few years, makes you a better candidate, a more adult perspective.?

He laughed at the sentiment, "eager" that didn't sound right, Nate never got eager over anything any more, you could offer him ten-thousand dollars and he probably wouldn't do anything more than blink. He recalled that he?d never actually chosen a Pokémon the first time around, he?d asked Oak to do it, figured the man had more experience in those kids of decisions that a child who equated fire with cool. He hadn?t said anything in response to the professor yet, but Oak had made a statement as opposed to asking a question.

?I remember the first time we met, I asked you to pick my Pokémon for me...?

?As recall you decided at the last second it wasn?t for you.?

?I think now?s the time to relive that last second.?

?I think so too.?

The pair moved across to the racks of Pokémon in Oak?s lab, each of them were young, quite young even, sometimes young Pokémon had a problem with following orders, if they felt it was in their better interests to ignore them. His hand passed over a few different balls, but none of them really felt right to him. Oak just kept walking, maybe he knew something about Nate that even four years and a personality shift hadn?t.

?I think this one will suit you best.?

Oak tossed a pokéball over to him, so much for being able to make his own choice. He opened it dutifully, releasing whatever Pokémon had been sealed inside. It was tall and lean, green carapace covering it?s body, a Scyther. But this didn?t look like a hatchling...

?Interesting, most interesting.?

On her way back, Ashin and Shinva ran into Professor Oak. "It's nice to finally meet you, my dear." Oak said to her. "I see you've picked a Vulpix. You know, your father picked a Growlithe as his starter and your mother a Cyndaquil. It seems Fire-types run in your family." "I've always liked fire types, but actually, my second favorite Pokemon is a Skitty." she replied. "I hope to see good things from you, Ashin. Not just because of your father, but because your mother has told me of the promise she sees in you. Good luck and no doubt we'll meet often in the future." He rushed off after his short speech, so Ashin and Shinva went into the meeting room to wait.

Only about half of them had made it back so far. Ashin quickly grabbed the last remaining armchair to wait for the others. Shinva jumped up into her lap and made himself at home while Ashin began to stroke him. He was a beautiful Vulpix, and the first male Vulpix she had ever heard about or seen. He was very calm and laid back and seemed pretty low maintinence. She was very curious as to how he would do in battles, though. She hoped he wouldn't be too laid back. She knew Vulpix's could handle alot of fire power, however, she wanted speed on her side as well. "We'll just have to see." she thought to herself.

Upon being led out of Oak's lab and sent off into the nursery she had just been tending to only hours before, Miku headed straight to the turquoise rosebush with a purpose - to find a seedling that would blossom into a ferocious messenger of Mother Nature.
It wasn't simply a matter of picking any grass-type Pokemon, as there were many it was true; it was more a matter of letting the Pokemon choose her. To form the bond required to make plants grow, the plant needed to trust and love its gardener. Miku felt the same thing would happen with grass-type Pokemon.

As she stepped into the thorny rosebush, Miku winced as small gashes openned on her arms where the plant's natural defences attacked her.
Just move forwards, don't stop. If you stop, the toxins will have time to get into your bloodstream... she told herself over and over in her head.
As she broke through to the other side of the thorned barrier, Miku stared around in amazement at the natural beauty of this side of Oak's nursery.
She herself had had no idea why she'd decided to walk into the roses. Now she saw why. This was the true grass-Pokemon sect.
Miku had seen grass-types running around her whilst she was gardenning from time to time, but had never seen the full extent of Oak's collection. She also thought it odd that she had never been invited into this area of the nursery - then remembered that the pokemon in residence most likely tended to their home better than any human could.

Several Pokemon noticed Miku's arrival, and looked up from what they were doing. One Bellsprout even took a few tentative steps toward the girl, but when it noticed her as the gardener decided not to worry itself with being careful and bolted at her pell-mell.
The next thing she knew, Miku was on her backside with a number of native Kanto grass-types swarming over her like vines up a tree.
There they were; a Bellsprout, an Oddish, a Bulbasaur and even a Tangela. Each of them reminded her of plants she had seen in the multitude of books on horticulture in her mother's library. But although these Pokemon seemed keen on her, Miku decided to wander around until she could feel a true connection coming from one, and not just a lust for plant nutrients.
"I'm sorry little ones, but I'm not here to tend to the gardens right now, I'm actually here to find a partner."
Brushing the Pokemon off lightly, Miku stood up and moved further into the small enclosed garden.

What...what's that smell... thought Miku as she stepped on something that felt like a small cushion. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply, then convulsed and threw up almost instantly. Shit...it's Shroomish spores...
She looked down at where her foot was, lifted it, then picked up the Shroomish she had stepped on.
"I'm sorry sweetie, I should have kept an eye out for you."
"Shrooom~!" it grunted, and promptly hopped out of her hands and off into the scrub.
Just then there was rustling in a bush to Miku's left. A flash of pink told her it was either a Hoppip or a Cherinbo - Perfect she thought.
"You can come out if you like, I'm not here to hurt you..." she crooned.
Sure enough, the Cherinbo Miku had helped out previously popped it's heads out.
The tiny seedling bounced over to the hippie-chick and bumped her leg a few times.
"Are you okay there?" she asked it with a nervous smile as she rubbed the back of her head. "You know I can see you and you have my attention. Is there something I can help you with again?"
The Cherinbo gave her a look that almost said "Just get your damn, Pokeball, girl. I'm making you an offer you can't refuse."
Almost.
Miku happily complied, and dropped her Pokeball on the ground at her feet; at this Cherinbo nudged the button on the front of the ball and promptly vanished inside it.
"Sakura's your new name, friend," she said with a grin, and began to find her way back into Oak's lab.

Sigurd, not knowing which Pokemon he wants to catch as a friends, began to wander around the nearby lake. Along the way he saw lots of Pokemon enjoying themself: Poliwags splashing water among themselfs and Horseas swiming in the lake.

Looking at them makes Sigurd happy. The Poliwags and Horseas has friends to play and enjoy with. If he catches on of them, think how the Poliwags or Horseas felt...

"Eevveee~~"

What was that I've heard?

"Eeevvee!!"

Sigurd looked underneath his legs and found an Eevee.

"What are you doing here Eevee? Where are your friends?"
"Eevee??"

Sigurd's confused. How would he ever understands what the Eevee is trying to say?
Then, the Eevee tugged his pants. Maybe he wants me to follow him?, he thought.

After minutes of walking, Eevee and Sigurd found their way back to Prof. Oak's nursery. He looks at Eevee with a big smile...

"Well Eevee, seeing that you are here with me, lets go in and continue our life together with lots of laughter!"

The Eevee smiled at him back, "Eeveeee~~!"

But when Sigurd got up, he remembered something. Of course, if you want to catch a Pokemon, you must have the Pokemon in the PokeBall.Oh, how forgetful am I? He sat down beside his new Eevee again.

"Okay Eevee, well...I'm not forcing you or anything. It's just...

He placed the PokeBall in front of his small friend.

"See that? It's a PokeBall. Well, I'm sorry, but you've gotta be in there in order for me to catch you. Then I'm officially your trainer, see?"

The Eevee seemed to understand what he says and disappears into it.

"I'll let you out soon, be patient my new friend."

And with that he enters the professor's nursery with a big smile on his face...

Aesera watched as the others reentered to meeting room one by one. How many of you let the Pokemon choose? she wondered to herself. How many of you put the Pokeball down and let the Pokemon choose? Maybe some of you did, but I think the majority of you did things the normal way, by throwing the Pokeball at the Pokemon you wanted. ell, I suppose I shouldn't judge anyone by that. After all, it's just how things are done. That needs to change, but until it does, I can't really blame anyone for catching their Pokemon.

Aesera could hear her brother right now. "Your Pokemon aren't actually yours," he would say. "They're with you, but they are not yours. You do not own them, so don't treat them like you do. Let them make their own choices, and if a Pokemon doesn't want to travel with you, do not force it to. If a Pokemon would be happier in the wild, then release it. Pokemon have desires of their own, and those desires must be respected at all times."

Aesera couldn't help but think that Rorohiko would be perfect for Oak's goal of changing how people viewed Pokemon. No human and Pokemon were closer to each other than Rorohiko and the Absol who traveled with him. In fact, Rorohiko had, over the course of five years, learned to understand what Absol was saying as though it were speaking like a human. He couldn't do this with any other Pokemon, though, not even another Absol, as Rorohiko relied on Absol's unique mannerisms to a significant extent. However, by having Absol translate, he could indeed know what any Pokemon was saying.

Rorohiko usually used the word 'love' to describe his relationship with Absol. Of course, he also had to say that he was using the term in a purely emotional sense, not a physical sense. Love, he said, wasn't the physical action of sex, but the emotional bonding of two individuals, regardless of species.

Yes, Rorohiko would have been perfect for Professor Oak's goal. In fact, Oak had probably asked Rorohiko, likely face-to-face, as the two were good friends and got together on a regular basis. But Rorohiko wasn't a trainer; he was a researcher. He'd do what he could to further Oak's goal, of course, but not as a trainer. He loved his work, and he wasn't about to stop and do something else.

Aesera wondered, as she often did, just how Rorohiko had learned to understand Absol. Someday she'd have to ask him, maybe have him help her learn how to understand the Absol that would be traveling with her. For now, though, she would focus on her journey as a trainer of Pokemon, and learn things on her own.

With his brother now being entertained by the big man himself and all the other trainers off searching for their own Pokémon, Andrew saw no reason to draw spectacle to himself and with no girls around there wasn’t a need to show off. Instead he put his hands in his pockets and walked around the grounds disinterestedly staring at its inhabitants.

Walking under the trees Andrew spied some Mankey and Aipom playing together in the trees as Spinirak and Caterpie bustled about below in the long grass. A few Pidgey’s were fighting with an angry Spearow over some food scraps and small groups of Nidoran were happily chasing each other. This all seems a bit too merry for my liking and none of these Pokémon seem to share my flair he thought to himself heading into a thick patch of trees.

The light became dark and the air became dense, as the trees loomed ominously above. A slight fluttering sound and squeaking alerted him to the presence of a lone Zubat slinking about in the shadows. A Zubat? he wondered. The fact that this bat Pokémon feeds on other creatures for their plasma in much the same way he fed on others for their attention seemed to match him perfectly. Plus, Andrew always did admire the fully evolved Crobat and the fact that it boasted tremendous speed.

With an excited smirk, Andrew unclipped the first Pokéball from his belt and hurled it at the little blue creature. The Zubat deftly dodged with ease and then flapped above his head in an irritating manner. He grunted lightly before swatting at it in vain. It was far too fast for him. He needed to be smart about it. Now with a sly grin Andrew threw the Pokéball again and then grabbed a second ball and threw it straight after. The second ball was aimed a little behind the first one, where he assumed it was most logical for the bat to evade.

Just as Andrew had planned the first ball provoked the Zubat into dodging backwards and the second ball hit it clean and consumed the little blood sucker in a aura of red.

“Ha! I’m too good for my own … well, good.” He chirped with his characteristic smirk before picking up the balls. He put the un-used one back on his belt and held the second one in his hand while staring at it.

Naturally he’d assumed that his brother had spoken to Oak privately about their previous encounter and his brother was now the owner of a new Pokémon. This now meant that they’d be partners in their quest and, most certainly, rivals as well as brothers.

And so with Zubat in ball (as it were) Andrew proudly walked back to the home of the Great Pokémon Professor Oak.

It is said that we humans can never comprehend our fates, that no matter how observant we could claim to be, we would never be able to realize when our lives had changed forever. When we stepped through whatever door of destiny, we would think nothing of it. We thought it was another door, another path. We never knew it would define who we would be.

Matt never truly realized when he stepped through that door. It might have been when he woke up that morning. Or perhaps it was when he first met Scimnio. Or, perhaps, it was when he first took a glance at Miku?

All Matt knew was that when he took his first, deep look in Scimnio?s eyes, it clicked. He knew it. His life was never going to be ?normal? ever again. It was going to be anything but normal. It was going to be unreal.

The rest of the group came into the living room soon after he came to realize this. He didn?t know if they came to the same conclusion as he did, or if they ever will. But to some, he looked different. Maybe it was just because his hand was shaking a little; or, maybe it because he gave no heed to Scimnio resting on his head.

?Where will this take me? I?m going somewhere. I?m going on some sort of crazy, half assed adventure all right, but where will it bring me in the end? Will I be remembered in history books for the first trainer in generations to defeat the Elite Four? Will I end up dead? Will I be a nothing? Just where the hell am I going??

?So, do you know what lies ahead of you?? The Professor?s quarry broke Matt out of his thoughts. ?Do you know where you are going? As pokemon trainers, your paths are as limited as where your pokemon and your feet can take you. It?s a difficult path, what lies ahead of you. Being a trainer is not easy. You?ll starve, you will get thirsty, you will have yours ups and downs. You do not have to go. You can take your pokemon and return to the life you remember; the life with no risks. It has no strings attached.

But if you take this new path I have presented to you, you just might have the chance to grab that light you just couldn?t find before. I won?t say anything else. The supplies ? if you choose to be a pokemon trainer ? can be found at the door. Each of them has a name tag of yours clipped to it. Those tags register you as a pokemon trainer, and will grant you entry to the gyms as well as reduced treatment at hospitals and centers.? With that, the Professor got up and left.

They were all alone.

For a few moments, no one got up. But those moments felt like hours. So many choices, so many possibilities. What choice was the right one? Was being a trainer really as much as the ads made it seem to be? Was this the same adventure as the massacre of the War so many years ago?

The war that killed Matt?s parents? Was this the right path? What if this was the wrong path, a forbidden path? Would fate punish them for choosing it? Would die destitute, with only their beloved pokemon remembered them? And even then, the pokemon will eventually die someday, and they would be forgotten forever.

Matt was the first to get up.

^ Yes people, this is a link for a song <.<

It wasn?t long after. Matt was all packed. He sold the house to an emerging mass house retailer company. He didn?t get much for it ? only twenty thousand dollars ? but it was enough. Enough to tell him that he wasn?t coming back. He was leaving home. He was going on a new path, with a new life ahead of him.

But he had to say goodbye first.

He was at the cemetery. He was still in the same sweatshirt that he was wearing that morning. The graves of his parents were before him.

?Hey guys, how?s it going? It?s been a while since I was here. I guess I should kind of apologize. Kind of lazy of me, not even visit you guys, huh? Don?t yell like that. I was busy. No, I lied. I was just being so damned depressed. I missed you guys, you know? I wanted to see you beyond tales your friends said of you, beyond photos. I guess I thought that if I stopped visiting, you would come back. It was a stupid dream. Sorry.

I?m not coming back. This is my big goodbye. I?m leaving Pallet Town. Oak gave me a pokemon?named him Scimnio. Stupid name, I know, but the brat liked it.? He turned to face the hikazaru, and it looked at him. It stuck a tongue at him.

?Thanks for the support. Sheesh.? He sighed. ?I?m gonna to face the gym leaders, go on a little adventure. I wanted to see what the world has to offer, see what happens, see how I screw up, how I do on my thing. I want to see exactly what type of man I am. Nothing is holding me back. So, I hate it to say it?mom, dad?but this is goodbye.? And then he cried. He allowed the tears to flow down his face for a long time. He wanted it to last. He needed his parents to know that he cared. When he was done, he got up.

And then, he left his home behind.

Demetri, looking at the deep grass beyond Pallet Town, looked at all the other trainer's leaving. He felt - after the meeting, of course - that he had begun to know each one of them personally, though he had never talked with any of them formally. Standing out near the outskirts of Pallet, Demetri looked at his right hand which contained Larvitar's Pokeball. Demetri thought about letting him out for a minute and was about to do so; but before he could, Demetri heard a couple of snapshots in his hearing range. Curious, Demetri turned around to see Jonas taking pictures of his new Swinub. Jonas was taking very careful shots of his Pokemon, his smooth motions while taking pictures looking like art itself. Drawn like a moth to a flame, Demetri walked over to Jonas' location.

"What on Dragonite's green earth are you doing?" Demetri asked, stopping a couple of feet from Jonas.

Jonas stopped photographing his Swinub and looked at Demetri.

"Taking pictures of my Swinub, of course." Jonas then looked at Demetri's right hand, holding his Pokeball. "...Umm...Are you gonna let your Pokemon out for some air?"

"I'm sure it can breathe." Demetri said. Again, he felt like a heartless bastard.

"...It?" Jonas said with a puzzled look on his face. "You mean you don't know if your Pokemon is a he or a she?"

"...Does it really matter?"

Jonas sighed.

OOC: ...Umm... anyone got room for Sergei to tag along? I'd feel like a right outcast if my character went travelling alone. Last I heard everyone had gotten into groups ;_;

A fire Pokemon. Sergei's folks at home were sure going to be proud of him. And, not to mention, a Charmander! Sergei had a hard time keeping up with all the Pokemon, he had mostly managed to study the Pokemon that dwelled in the Kanto region... and Charmander evolved into his favourite Kanto Pokemon of all time: Charizard! There couldn't have been a better Pokemon for Sergei. He would train him as much as he could, and, of course, he would treat him right.

Sergei was sat on the grass, not far from the lab, rummaging through the supplies he had received whilst holding Charmander's Pokeball in one hand. He took out several things from the back pack, reading and study a few of the items carefully.

He heard someone at that moment. He looked up to see who, but once again they were out of range for his eyes. He could only hear them, obviously talking to their newly recieved Pokemon. But it had a strange name. Sergei had never heard of a Pokemon with that kind of name before.

"Oh yeah... nicknames." Sergei realised.

He looked at his Pokeball containing Charmander and frowned. Maybe Charmander deserved a nickname. But what was he going to call him? Fred? No, that was just stupid. When it came to giving out nicknames Sergei was as slow and dim minded as his older brother.

"I don't think you need a nickname, but I do think you need some air."

Sergei came to that conclusion with a small and, in an instant, released Charmander from the Pokeball in a flash of glowing red. Charmander looked around for a second, curious probably, until he spotted Sergei. Immediately after seeing his knew trainer, Charmander ran forward and attempted to crawl onto Sergei. Sergei, being helpful, lifted Charmander up into his lap, careful of his burning tail.

"You've got a pretty big flame on the end of your tail. As far as I know, it's unusual for it to be that big. But I guess that means you'll end up being a lot stronger. I promise you will." Sergei said, smiling.

Charmander seemingly agreed with a loud cry and a dangerous waving of its tail, in which Sergei jumped back a little, chuckling.

"You know," started Jonas. "...you should really treat your Pokemon better. You're going to end up just like the people that Oak was talking about earlier if you're not careful." Demetri gave Jonas a blank stare and then whipped out his Pokeball and expanded it threateningly.

"You want to have a practice fight, then? We'll see if treating your Pokemon really makes a difference where it counts." he glared. Jonas replied with a simple wave of his hair and pointed at his opponent.

"Swinub! Get ready to fight." he yelled. The fuzzy pig repsonded by facing Demetri and grunting. Demetri released Larvitar, who stretched a little before the fight. Jonas noticed this and took a picture. A Pokemon readying for a fight was something he had never seen before.

Immediately both Pokemon engaged in a tight stare down. Suddenly, Swinub broke the silence with a tackle, knowing that Jonas wouldn't know what attacks to call out. Larvitar responded simply by dodging the attack.

"Bite it!" yelped the excited Demetri. Larvitar responded so quickly, Swinub had no time to react. A whimper and a cry coming out of Swinub startled Jonas so much that he dropped his camera (which he was using to take a picture of the battle instead of yelling out commands).

"Stop it." said Demetri. "This is dumb, you aren't even trying!" Jonas didn't respond with words but instead looked at his already hurt Pokemon. It looked at him melodramatically, with a large wound on its back. Demetri returned Larvitar.

"Don't you even know how to fight?" asked Demetri, almost offended that Jonas didn't.

"Well..." stuttered Jonas. "N-not really."

"For the love of... You gotta learn how to control your Pokemon Jonas!" Demetri half-yelled. "In the event of a Pokemon battle, you must know your Pokemon and the different things it can do... For example: I'm sure your Swinub is a Ice / Ground type Pokemon with awesome attack and great defense."

"Wow." Jonas said, looking into Swinub's eyes while talking to Demetri. "I can see why the Professor picked you to come here."

Demetri was slightly shocked from the compliment Jonas gave him, blushing slightly.

"...Thank you. Though i'm too modest to say it to myself." Demetri then looked at Jonas' Swinub and then at Jonas himself.

"Not to be rude or anything Jonas... but why did Oak choose you?"

"...Don't know." Jonas replied. " I actually wanted to work as the Professor's aide before the letter I received led me here." Jonas looked towards the sky, his Swinub following suit. " I wanted to work with the Professor and help with all the Pokemon he touched. When I looked in the paper today, I saw that Oak had mailed several people already about becoming possible trainers. I thought that if Oak had enough time for trainers, surely he would have enough time for me to become his aide." Jonas then looked at Demetri, who stared back at him.

"Irony, however, doesn't travel without humor."

Demetri seemed to know all to well about what Jonas meant, thinking of his grandfather. Demetri and Jonas shared a light smile. Demetri then looked at Jonas' Swinub.

"...We need to get to a Pokemon Center for your Pokemon. Larvitar bit down pretty hard on Swinub's back." Demetri picked up the bookbag with Oak's pre-itemized belongings inside - including his Trainer ID Card. Jonas grabbed his as well after putting Swinub back in his Pokeball.

"And where's the Pokemon Center?" Jonas' reply was.

"Straight ahead and uphill from Pallet Town. We won't miss it." Demetri said with a smile.

"We?" Jonas said, puzzled. "Y-You're coming with me?"

"...Is that a problem for you?" Demetri said, looking back as he put the bag on his back.

"No. Not at all." Jonas said, putting his bag on as well. "I would actually appreciate the company."

"Great. I wouldn't want for you to think i'm a 'heartless bastard' or anything." Demetri stated, starting his march with a smile.

"Windbag," Turbine grunted skeptically about Oak after a boy, whose name she did not know, was the first to get up, grab the things at the door, and walk out. Turbine and the others remained silent, sitting or standing in solemn contemplation. Pulling up the pokéball containing her Murkrow, who was now affectionately dubbed 'Fusha', towards her face, she let out a sigh before standing up and walking towards the door. It was as if everyone was holding their breath when she hesitated in front of the table.

Turbine glanced over her shoulder at the others behind her. She could tell most of them were thinking: 'She's not going to do it. She doesn't even seem to like pokémon that much, anyway.' But she picked up the supplies that had her name on them and walked out the door. She didn't do it to prove them wrong; hell, she wasn't even sure they cared at all anyway. But she did do it because it sounded entertaining. She had been so damn bored for so long, she couldn't resist. And something about having a pokémon of her own made her brighten up a little bit, even if only she could tell.

"There's nothing here for me to do now. I'm out of here," she announced quietly to herself. She pulled her cell phone out of her bag in a swift motion, but hesitated to actually dial. When she finally manged to make herself press the buttons, she held the phone up to ear and waited impatiently for the voice on the other end.

"Sis! It's been ages! Why don't you call more often? Well, anyways, what's up?" came the obnoxious, fast-talking of her older brother. She didn't say anything for a bit, and the silence sparked more chatting. "Hello? You there still? C'mon now, don't be shy. You know you can tell me anything, right?"

"Stop it, Soya. I'm in Pallet Town and I need a ride," she said, a hint of anger in her voice.

"Pallet Town?" he asked surprised, "Since when did you leave Lavender Town?" Turbine hung up on him, knowing he'd be there soon. While on the phone, she had walked to the northern border of the small town. She turned back to see more and more people filing out of the lab, every one of them with the supplies in hand. She remembered the tag and pulled it out of her bag to examine it. It didn't look out of the ordinary, but the way Oak described it, it seemed to do a lot.

"Is that you, Sis?!"

The hairs on her neck stood on end at the sound of her happy-go-lucky brother arriving. Following the load thud of his Tropius landing, she heard the sound of his chuckling before feeling a familiar hand on her head. She looked up at him with an expression that would frighten most, but he took as nothing more than a playful 'hello'. He embraced his younger sister before she could stop him, and when she finally managed to break away, she silently hopped onto the back of his Tropius and stared at him.

"Chipper as always, I see," he teased, sticking his tongue out. Climbing up in front of Turbine, he patted his pokémon's neck to signal it was okay to push off the ground. Once up in the air, he turned towards her. "So where to, Sa--"

"My house. And don't call me that," she added, glaring at him like she always did when he forgot to call her by her alias. He sighed, rolling his eyes, but said nothing else.

---

The trip was only a few minutes long, as Soya's Tropius was an extremely fast flyer. Turbine hopped off in Viridian City, as she didn't want to go back to Pallet because she figured most of the others would still be milling around, and she didn't feel like milling around, too.

"Why were you in Pallet, anyway? The only reason I can think of is to see Oak, but you've never been into pokémon before, so that doesn't make much sense, so there has to be..." he rambled. As he continued talking, she reached into her bag and pulled out Fusha's pokéball. Releasing it, the small black bird flew towards her brother. When he finally noticed it, he became silent, glancing from the small creature to his sister below.

"Oh, I see... Good luck then, Sa--" he began, but caught himself. "See ya, 'Turbine'. Call me if you need any help or advice, or when you finally loosen up enough to stop going by that nickname." And with that, he was gone. She stared up at the sky for a while, Fusha landing on her shoulder during the silence. She rubbed her arms after a strong breeze made her realize how cold she was. She looked around to see a PokéMart and began walking towards it.

"Something hot to drink sounds real good right now, don't you think Fu?" she asked her companion.

As Jonas trotted behind the now happy Demetri, he looked worriedly at his Swinub in the Pokeball. Normally he would have had it out of the ball, but since it was injured he thought it best to keep it inside.

"Hurry up!" said Demetri, looking back on Jonas who was now a few feet back. They were now out of Pallet Town and on Route 1, heading towards Viridian City. Jonas glanced at him, smiled and caught up. They walked silently for a little bit.

"So..." Jonas said. "You like.. Pokemon?"

"I like battles."

"...that's cool." Jonas said, trying to stop himself from lecturing Demetri once again. He couldn't help himself. "But you should really pay more attention to your Pokemon. If you're not careful they'll grow defiant and just won't fight for you anymore. That would mean no more battles for Demetri!" he chuckled.

Demetri was quiet for a few seconds.

"Well, you'll just have to teach me how to care for a Pokemon then." he replied sarcastically. Jonas, thinking that Demetri was serious agreed.

"Deal! And you can teach me how to battle." he smiled. Demetri stopped and took a good look at Jonas, then shook his outstretched hand, half of his mind telling him not to.

"I'm going to regret this, I think." Demetri said jokingly. And they both laughed. "Now, we should really get that Swinub to a Centre."

"This is so exciting!" Ashin thought as she rushed to grab her gear. This was her chance. "Alright Shinva. Lets head out." she said as she put her pack on. "I trust Prof. Oak has everything we'll need in here." Shinva nodded in agreement. As she walked out of the lab she saw Sergei not far away. "He has a fire Pokemon also." she thought. "It would probably be alot of fun to travel along with him." she said to Shinva. Shinva looked over at them closely. HE was moreso inspecting the Charmander, wondering if he was a friendly Charmander or not. "Lets go see if we can tag along."

When they reached Sergei and Charmander, Ashin sat down opposite him. "Hi, my name's Ashin. It's nice to meet you." "Oh," Sergei said looking up in a surprised manner. "Hey, I'm Sergei. Likewise." They shook hands and smiled nervously. "Oh, and this is Charmander." Sergei added quickly. "It's nice to meet you Charmander. This is Shinva, my Vulpix." Shinva nodded his head and then went over to Charmander, cautiously at first, until Charmander walked towards him and they examined each other closely. They quickly decided they liked each other and within minutes were acting like best friends. "I can't beleive they get along so great." Ashin said, watching them tumble along in the grass. "Yeah, they seem to like each other's company. Hey, would you like to travel with us?" Ashin looked at Sergei, then at the Pokemon, and pretended to think it over. This was exactly what she wanted him to ask, however, so she agreed a few moments later. "It's no fun to travel alone, anyways." she said. "So what spurred you to pick a fire Pokemon?" he asked her. "Well, it's not as much because he's a fire-type. I just love Vulpix's. They're beautiful Pokemon. What about you?" "I live on Cinnibar Island so I'm used to being around them. All my family except on of my brothers have fire Pokemon. I'm sure they'll be pleased with my choice." Sergei replied. "We should probably head out soon." he added, noticing many of the trainers leaving.

Most people would have waited before they began a journey as large as the one Oak presented onto Matt. But Matt was not like most people. There was no reason to wait. Nothing was going to stop him if he hesitated. Every muscle in his body said go, and Matt was all too quick to obey.

It was around three thirty by the time Matt got even half way through Route One. The divider between Pallet Town and Viridian City was a half hour wide back in the days of the Vetus Government. But that government collapsed when the Gizdotsou War ended when he was three years old. Now, the once world connecting highways known as the ?Routes? were nothing more than overgrown concrete. Grass slipped between the numerous cracks, and it wasn?t uncommon for some of the tunnels to be full of Pidgey and Spearow nests. Rattatas raced across either side of the road, and a few Ekans could be seen in the forest.

At the current state of things, it could take Matt a few hours to get to Viridian City?and a nice soft bed.

?Gawd, this just sucks.? Scimnio turned to face Matt. ?No, I wasn?t talking to?oh forget it.?

Further down the road, the two decided they would take a route off of the beaten path. He reasoned that just because there was a chance of some feral pokemon attacking them for a chance of some extra meat doesn?t mean they couldn?t take a chance at cutting off a few hours.

?Besides, I got a fire breathing monkey with me.?

Scimnio still had a bad feeling about it.

Ignoring his companion?s feelings on the matter, the two took the shortcut. It would be several hours later they would emerge. Matt would have more than his fair of cuts from when he accidentally walked into a spearow?s nest, and Scimnio looked like he had taken a mud bath. ?Look you whining ape! Lights! I told you that we would?be right where we started??

Indeed, somewhere along the line, Matt lost his sense of direction, and so, they traveled in a very large circle for roughly two hours.

Needless to say, Scimnio made a mental note that he?d ask the resident pokemon next time Matt decided to take a ?short cut?.

?Its too late to head there now?? Matt sighed. It was almost nine, and it wouldn?t take long to see that Matt was beyond exhausted. ?We?re camping?right under that tree over there. Come on apie, start a fire. I?ll get a tent?if I can find the directions in this thing??

And thus ended Matt?s first day as a pokemon master. It was not necessarily the best beginning to an adventure?

Azure bounced into the room with slightly more energy then usual, she was excited as to be expected. she grabbed her bad and ran outside.
"Oh my gosh this rocks!"
She turned and began to walk backwards as she waved goodbye to Pallet Town and gasped as she ran into Ronyo.
"Crap, I'm sorry."
She smiled and scratched that back of ehr head shyly.
"Are you traveling with anyone?"
He arched an eye brow at her and blinked.

"I was only asking, I don't think anyone wants to go with me cause I'm so noisey."
He still looked at her and then gave her a slow smile.
"I don't think that would be a problem."
"Really? That's great!"
She smiled and giggled, grabbign his hand she pulled him down the path and on the way to the next town. Letting go she began to talk about nothing in particular, just making small talk.

As the two young men - Demetri and Jonas - walked through Route 1 to Viridian City, Jonas looked worriedly at his Pokeball containing Swinub over and over. Demetri felt bad for the damage that Larvitar did to his Swinub but couldn't help but feel a bit of excitement in his heart due to how powerful his Pokemon was. However, Demetri felt apolegetic and stopped walking to face Jonas in the middle of the semi-tall grass.

"Jonas, I... wanted to apologize for my Larvitar's actions concerning your Pokemon earlier during our battle. I -"

"Stop." Jonas said, cutting him off. "I know that your heart's in the right place; though, I think that you need to learn about love and compassion a little more..."

"Yeah, but..." Demetri stated.

"...But nothing." Jonas cut Demetri off again, still sounding kind. "If I know anything, I know that you - as a human being and now as a trainer - can't afford to second-guess yourself in times of weakness. Okay?"

Demetri was stunned. Jonas already proved to Demetri that he couldn't battle well, making him unreliable to Demetri; but where his battling techniques lacked, he made up for with caring, intelligence and a stedfast conscience. Shaking off the energetic feeling from Jonas' short speech, Demetri began to turn around to continue walking. But before he could turn around to enter Viridian, however, a Pidgey swooped down, swiping Jonas in the shoulder with it's beak.

"Aahhhh!" Jonas yelled, dropping his Pokeball in the grass, away from sight. Demetri looked around finding the bird sitting on a tree, blood on it's beak.

"We must be in this Pidgey's territory." Demetri thought.

Angry at the bird for it's action, Demetri whipped out his Pokeball and let out his Larvitar. the Larvitar, not wanting to be conceled by the grass, jumped on top of a small boulder above the grass assuming a battle stance.

"Larvitar, prepare to bite the Pidgey the moment it comes back down." Demetri said to his partner.

Larvitar nodded, though it never took it's eyes off the Pidgey.

As the Pidgey came down for another attack at Jonas, Larvitar prepared to bite down on the bird. Unfortunately for Larvitar, however, someone else interjected. A freezing gust of wind, sending chills down Demetri, Jonas, and Larvitar, hit the swooping Pidgey, knocking it out of orbit and crash landing to earth. It landed in Demetri's chest, Demetri catching it with a slight loss of air from the blow of the Pokemon.

As the three looked around for the divine intervention, Jonas finally looked down to notice his Swinub looking up at his trainer - hurt and all. As Jonas knelt down after finding Swinub, Demetri pulled out two Pokeball's: One to return Larvitar and the other to catch the wild Pidgey in his arms. The Pidgey was absorbed in a flash of red light, the Pokemon unable to escape due to it fainting from injury. Demetri then looked at Jonas, who had returned his own Swinub to his Pokeball.

"What just happened?" Jonas said to Demetri.

"I'm pretty sure Swinub just used a move called 'Powdered Snow' to defend you from the Pidgey." Demetri said. "It was a one-hit KO."

"Oh. Wow." Jonas said semi-surprised, glad that Swinub was alright.

"Oh... Wow... That's it? That Pokemon of yours has some serious fight to it. More deserving than a 'wow', i'll tell you that much."

Jonas looked at his Pokeball in awe.

"...I think you may be right..."

"...C'mon Jonas, let's get to the Pokemon Center..."

"...For my Swinub and for your new Pidgey. Right?"

Demetri laughed but knew Jonas was right. They entered Viridian City together and jogged to the Pokemon Center.

"So much for trying to be sneaky..." Demetri thought.

Sergei smiled at Charmander and Vulpix - and at the fact he would be travelling with someone else instead of alone. He really wouldn't be comfortable on his own, even with Charmander.

"I'm not sure, but I think the first gym is in Viridian." Sergei said.

"Well last I heard the Gym Leader in Viridian wasn't there." Ashin said.

Sergei looked dumbfounded for a moment, blinking several times before looking over at the path the trainers were heading out on. He scratched his head and sighed.

"What's wrong?" asked Ashin.

"Nothing, just I'm a little far behind with everything. Never normally leave Cinnibar Island... so I don't know much about everything. I guess I am really far behind with everything, I might have a bit of trouble keeping up with the world. I hope I won't slow you down."

Ashin laughed. "Don't worry about it."

Sergei gave a somewhat nervous smile. He glanced over at Charmander and Vulpix, noting for a moment that Vulpix also had a nickname, Shinva. Sergei sighed again. Maybe he should give Charmander a name... though... to be honest, it didn't feel right. It wouldn't feel right calling Charmander by a different name, it wouldn't feel right if people didn't identify his first Pokemon right away because of a nickname... then again, Sergei didn't know if he was being heartless for not naming his Pokemon.

He opned his mouth to ask Ashin about it but stopped, noticing she was talking to Shinva and seemingly marvelling over the Pokemon. Sergei didn't want to disturb that. He watched them both for awhile but when Ashin turned to him, he looked quite startled.

"I think we should get going..." Sergei mumbled, a little embarrassed. He took up his bag and slung it over his shoulder, taking one last look at Charmander.

"It's time to get back inside your Pokeball, Charmander. I'll let you back out later." He told his friend, withdrawing him into his Pokeball when he gave a cry of agreement.

"You're not going to keep your Pokemon out of its Pokeball?"

"Nah, not all the time. Only occasionally. I don't want him to get hurt... you know, if we're in a storm... or something freakish happens... he'll be okay in his Pokeball. I'll let him out when we get to the next city." Sergei explained, laughing as they started off down the path.

Aesera got to her feet shortly after Oak's speach. She didn't have to think about what to do; she'd already known that she wanted to be a trainer. So she got up and located her supplies. She took her pack back into the meeting room, sat back down, and went through the pack, examining its contents.

Aesera was pleased with what the pack contained. Most anything she thought she'd need was in there, including food, basic trainer supplies, and, of course, a Pokedex, which Aesera placed in her pocket so that she could grab it quickly. There was also camping equipment, as well as several other useful items. It didn't have everything Aesera wanted, but she'd brought a good deal of cash with her, so she could buy anything else that she'd need.

By the time she was done taking inventory, Aesera was alone in the meeting room. She put everything back in her back and closed it up. She put it on her back and exited the house. Aesera went straight to the local trainer mart to buy a few items, then stoped at the local store for a few extra supplies. She also bought herself a hiking stick and some clothing for different climates.

With her shopping done, Aesera was ready to begin her journey as a Pokemon trainer. She set out from Pallet at a rather leisurely pace, as she had no desire to rush through her journey. Hurrying from place to place, she believed, would lessen the experience of the journey, and Aesera wanted to have the full experience.

There were quite a few wild Pokemon on the route, mainly Pidgey, Spearow, and Ratata, though there were also some Ekans about. Aesera ignored most of them, and they ignored her. There were, however, a couple occasions on which Spearow decided to come at her. Aesera took advantage of these opportunities to get Absol some battle experience, and of course she benefited from the encounters as well, as she and Absol began learning how to work as a team during battle. Aesera didn't catch any Pokemon; she wanted to get used to being a trainer and gain experience with Absol before going after other Pokemon. Quality, she knew, was more important than quantity.

As the day wore on, Aesera began looking for a good place to spend the night. She wasn't too concerned, though. In fact, she thought she'd enjoy walking a little into the night, which she did. She took a break to eat, and let Absol out for some food as well, but she resumed her travels afterwards.

It was pretty late by the time Aesera came across one of the people who had been at Oak's place earlier. As she drew closer, she recognized him as the one who'd introduced himself as Matt. He and his Pokemon partner were atempting to set up camp for the night.

"Hello there," Aesera said as she walked up to Matt. "You're Matt, right? I'm Aesera. We met at Oak's earlier today."

"Yeah, I remember you," Matt replied. "The quiet girl in the corner. You didn't say too much."

"I was spending the time thinking," Aesera explained. "This isn't going to be an easy journey, you know. I was thinking about what it'd be like, being a Pokemon trainer."

"You knew why we were at Oak's before he told us, then?" Matt asked.

Aesera nodded. "Yeah. My brother, Rorohiko, is a good friend of Oak's, and he knew what Oak was planning. He dropped me enough hints to make it painfully obvoius. So yes, I knew what to expect from Oak. And now I'm on my first journey as a Pokemon trainer. And so are you."

"Yeah," Matt said. "I'm not off to a very good start, though. I just spent two hours going around in a big circle."

"Tried to take a shortcut through the forest, right?" Aesera guessed.

Matt nodded. "Yeah. I thought it'd get me to Veridian faster, but instead I spend two hours to get right back to where I started."

"Ah, don't worry about it," Aesera said. "Those things happen. Besides, shorter isn't always better. Me, I'm taking my time on this journey. That's probably why I'm only as far as you when you spent two hours going nowhere. Well, maybe it's all for the better. I think some company on this journey would be nice, and we're both going to the same place, so how about we go together? Besides, this looks like a good spot to camp, so I'll be with you for tonight. And tomorrow, I say we set off together. What do you think?"

OOC: Well, Doublehex? Oh, and please tell me if I got your character too wrong.
