Best type of anime relationships?

Okay, a lot of anime fans, myself included, love to see diverse couples in anime. Whether it be shonen-ai, shoujo-ai, incestual, out-of-species relations, or just regular old guy-girl couples, we love to see good relationships in anime.

So, what's your favorite kind of relationship?

Personally, I think shoujo-ai or incest are the most fun.

I say shoujo-ai because it seems like most guys and girls don't understand each other (this being true in the "real" world and the "fantasy" world.) While all relationships have their troubles, I think girls have an easier time understanding each other, and I find that more interesting to watch. The reason I don't like shounen-ai is because the guys never seem to be like regular guys so I can't really relate (though why the hell would I relate to shoujo-ai?!)

Incest a lot of people get mad at me for thinking is cool XD (personally, I could see myself having an incestual relationship O_o perhaps it's desperation). A lot of incest is cool because the siblings know each other so well -- they grew up together and stuff and it's cute to see them fall in love. Sometimes it's also creepy, but creepy is fun. It's even better with shoujo-ai incest ;) XD

So would you like have sex with your sister? I knew a guy that did even had a child with her and she commited suicide. He got really drunk and thought that my friend was his dead sister so he tryed to kill her then kill himself, what kind of reality would this be?

Personally the type of relationships I find the most fun to watch are the yaoi and yuri type since seeing anime or any other type of show with the more typical straight relationship is more common. I?ve always felt that it?s wrong for society to try and tell others how they can love so I enjoy seeing shows where those types of relationships are a part of it. I just think it?s more realistic since those types of couples do exist and I think they don?t get enough exposure.

I don?t really care for the incest type, but then that?s probably because it has such a heavy social stigma against it. Almost as much as the yaoi or yuri does. And at the same time as easy as it would be to instantly get upset that they are even displaying such relationships in anime, I am reminded that just like yaoi or yuri, incest relationships are out there and whether or not I like them, there are those who do.

I?ve been reading a book called Malignant Self Love ? Narcissism Revisited and in it says:
In some societies, incest is mandatory or prohibited, according to the social class (Bali, Papua New Guinea, Polynesian and Melanesian islands). In others, the Royal House started a tradition of incestuous marriages, which was later imitated by lower classes (Ancient Egypt, Hawaii, Pre-Columbian Mixtec). Some societies are more tolerant of consensual incest than others (Japan, India until the 1930's, Australia).
I?m not finished with the book so I can?t really form a solid opinion, but what I?m trying to get at here, is just like the other type of relationships, so do incestuous ones exist, so in a way it is very realistic that they would be included.

It?s kind of creepy like you mentioned, and at the same time fascinating that people really do fall in love with say their brother or sister. o_O But then that?s one of the things I like best about anime, how it will explore areas that are considered taboo.

Well, I think Yaoi/Yuri is rather creepy. I'm not against Gay couples, but I don't really enjoy seeing them, well, y'know. It just doesn't seem right.

Plus, think about it in the characters point of veiw. Would two best friends, brothers/sisters, or people who are total opposites of each other, be caught making out? And think about it rationally. Unless foretold in the stories, the characters AREN'T Gay/Lesbians.

But, don't get me wrong. I'm not flaming anybody for what they like, or trying to teach my beliefs to you and force them down your throat. I'm just simply stating the facts, and my opinion.

Based on your post it?s obvious you don?t care for incest relationships so how about explaining which types in anime you actually do like.
Well, I think Yaoi/Yuri is rather creepy. I'm not against Gay couples, but I don't really enjoy seeing them, well, y'know. I enjoy other types of couples in anime but I find the yaoi and yuri the most interesting and fun to watch.
Plus, think about it in the characters point of veiw. Unless foretold in the stories, the characters AREN'T Gay/Lesbians. [/SIZE']
Perhaps you could clarify where you are going with this statement. Character?s point of view? Which characters are you referring to? And to ask if two best friends, brothers/sisters would be caught making out doesn?t really make sense. Most people don?t make out in front of other people and in some countries incest is considered a crime, so it?s only natural that people don?t make out where others can see them.

What exactly are you asking that we think about rationally? The anime I have watched that have yaoi and yuri pairings well, the characters are gay/lesbian. You make it sound as if all of them are forcing the other person to be something they are not. Are you referring to fan fictions where people pair up characters that aren?t in that type of relationship in the actual anime? I?m not really sure where you are going here.
But, don't get me wrong. I'm not flaming anybody for what they like, or trying to teach my beliefs to you and force them down your throat. Anyway, I?m not a big fan of the incest relationship deal in anime?s but like Aaryanna already stated, it is very realistic to include them, as they do exist. Whether or not it?s considered acceptable by society doesn?t change the fact that they exist. Besides there are plenty of cases where it was considered acceptable in our past history. For example the incestuous marriages among members of the royal households of Europe were intended to preserve the familial property and expand the clan's territory. They were considered normal, not abnormal. Marrying an outsider was what they considered abhorrent and unnatural.

I like it when the characters fight all the time. Like when there are two guys who fight all the time and then there is one person who tries to make them get along but never succeeds. And when they start fighting in public and everyone is looking at them like they are crazy of something. I always liked those relationships.

I prefer the normal relationship.. it seems cliche, but i really like the relationship of brothers and sisters, since its kind of sweet looking at them taking care of each other... Well, since im being the only boy in the family and also, having a lot of sisters.. well it's really worth defending all of them... Brothers usually are the defensive ones... or the protectors... not being the hero and all, but are the people with strong will and character. I want to be like them...

Also, I'd like to add a little more to this topic: Do you like to see very sexual relationships, or would you prefer it less?

While it is realistic that lovers have lots of sex, I have some problems with sexual relationships.

In a romance anime, I like to see it more often. After all, if the topic is relationships, there has to be sex basically. Nonsexual relationships just don't happen... it would only wrk if they were particularly abnormal characters.

in non-romance anime, though, I am split. On the one hand, I definitelly like to see couples form in anime. It only works, though, if it isn't intrusive on the plot. It's especially annoying when the relationships form out of seamingly nowhere. And if there is a relationship, I can't stand the prospect of them going 160 episode without ever even kissing (all eyes on Inuyasha)

All in all, I only care that the sex is handled correctly.

So long as it?s tastefully done, I?m fine with either including very sexual relationships, or not including them. And by tasteful I mean not the usual fan service tactics where they include a lot of stuff that is clearly just to get people to watch the series instead of exploring the relationship between the characters.
While it is realistic that lovers have lots of sex, I have some problems with sexual relationships.

Are you referring to ones where the sex is obviously put in just to please the fans? Or in general?

I?m going to disagree with you slightly on the nonsexual relationships. There are plenty of relationships where two people are very close and love each other dearly, but the relationship is not sexual at all. And the two people who care for each other are not related and aren?t necessarily of the opposite sex. So I don?t think it?s abnormal at all.
in non-romance anime, though, I am split. On the one hand, I definitelly like to see couples form in anime. Anyway, like your ending sentence, so long as it?s not a fan service type of deal, I have no issues with sex being in a show at all. It?s even possible to simply imply it without the need to outright show it. And yet at the same time occasionally it?s fun to watch something that is more fan service just for the fun of it. But for the most part I prefer it to be done in a more tasteful manner that reflects the characters growing relationship.

I think the best time of anime relationships are the ones that are just like meant to be.
With the beginning when their all "Do I like her? Does she like me?" Then there's the blushing and flirting and it's all...AWWWW! I also love the whole confession part, but I prefer the relationship to be a full one, I'm okay with sex but i'm fine with just hand holding and hugging, as long as there's real emotion, it's all good. I'm a sucker for true love though. XD

Oh how I love a good unrequited love story. The mix of nervous, awkwardness of the person with the crush towards their love interest. The heartbreak of when that person doesn't feel the same way or, even worse, that person loves someone else. A great series with these elements would be Honey and Clover.

What I love even more is when that person, after much heartache and suffering, finally wins over their love and gets to finally hear them say at they feel the same way. It just gives me the butterflies when that happens. Even more so when there is a love triangle going on. For me the perfect example is the Minmei/Rick/Lisa love triangle in Robotech.

I think the best kinds of relationships are. Boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, and boy will even risk his own to save girl even if she doesn't feel the same way.

Another is the rrlationships like tenchi were all the girls in the house are in love with him and all try to compete for him even though he cant chose wich one cause he doesn't want to hurt there feelings.

yeah thats about it.

My favortie type of relatioships is the kind where a boy save a girl and changes them for the better but the boys to afraid or arkward around girls to ever see her/ their true feeling for him. My other favorite as well is also the tenchi muyo type relationships where a bunch of girls love the main hero but he never see thier feeling for him. those types of relatiohipsns are really funny and build alot great episode for a series. :animesmil

As much as I love the simple straightforward boy loves girl and vice versa scenario, I have to admit though creepy it is interesting to see the other types of relationships out there. From the same sex pairings, to the siblings, though the idea of liking one of my own siblings in that manner is rather disturbing and would totally gross me out.

Anyway, as for the sex aspect, well to be honest, I do like some obvious sex in relationships, but at the same time I like stories where the love is shown in other ways. Sex is just too easy and in the end comes across as an obvious if not vulgar form of expression. And by vulgar I mean an indication of instead of taking the time to develop the relationship or to show the little gestures and interactions that lead to the characters falling in love, they simply skipped to them doing each other.

Or did I misunderstand the nature of the question? Fan service (that is what it?s called right?) is fun and I do enjoy it, but not in the context of showing how people love each other. Unless they've taken the time to build the relationship first.

Is that it? :p The guy woes the girl by being a sweet lovable person and once they've fallen in love then the more intimate aspect is fun to watch? Because at that point its an expression of their love on a more deeper level than just the physical one?

If that's what you are saying I agree. Not that sex isn't important, but if you don't have love or attachment, then the relationship ends up being pretty shallow. At least that's what I think. And that applies to all types of relationships, not just those that are straight in my opinion. ^_~

I really believe that in this world is possible the existence of a good romance about yuri/yaoi relationship. But the ones i've seen are not. The problem is that they want you to love and encourage and find pretty any gay couple only because they're... gay. What I mean is that yaoi animes are as common as non-yaoi romances, the difference is that they want you to like it just because the main couple is yaoi! (??)

But I also think (with all my heart) that gay relationships are not less troublesome than non-gays ones. They idealize that couples too much. All relationships are difficult and particular, it's not like just for beeing both gay they would get along perfectly without hard times.

Another thing that annoys me is that kind of relationship where the girl does nothing and the guy gets all the sacrifices. The girl is the problem, of course. I love sacrificial love. Maybe it's even more beautiful when one of them dies -- but let me explain myself! When the beloved one dies, love doesn't. It stays like it was, with all its intensity. They won't ever get bored! Like Romeo and Juliet, I suppose (that's not an anime!)
I like Berserk's Gatts and Caska, for example: they've surpassed their prides and they protect each other. If you know the anime, you know what "sacrifice" means.

I like more revealing shows or more graphic details, but when it comes to love, well I prefer the more subtle than the more obvious expression of sex. If you've seen the movie Everafter then you'll understand what I mean. The way the relationship between the prince and the girl was done, was excellent and never went beyond a simple kiss in the show. ;)

The other stuff is just for fun, not when I'm in the mood to watch something that I want to have happen in my own life with a special someone. There will be plenty of time for the more physical aspect of the relationship once you?ve fallen in love and I?m of the opinion that it makes it all the more special or rather enjoyable because at that point your emotions are tied into the whole experience.
