In this thread, will discuss the things that We Really Wanted For Christmas When We Were Younger I don't care what's on your list this year, and I don't care what video games you got last year or the year before. I am talking about nostalgia. I am talking about what was at the very top of your wish list nine, ten, eleven, twelve years ago. (The upper limit here is Christmas of 2001. Five years, people. At least. And I'm only granting you that because some of you are so alarmingly under fifteen years old.)

I'll start. I no longer remember how old I was (maybe seven or eight?) but there was a time in my life when this:

was arguably the Greatest Thing Invented in the History of Ever. I saw this in a catalog, and immediatly desired it. Look at the colors! Look at the media! Paint! Pencils! Markers! Crayons! Oh, to own that utterly, mind-blowingly, wonderfully colorful Art Set. This was Big, guys. This was Art. This was Important.

I did get it for Christmas, and although I can now say, with the benefit of hindsight (not to mention experience with decent art supplies), that it was kind of terrible, I loved it. The plastic binder it came it was chinsy, the crayons weren't great, and the markers bled, but man oh man, did I love that thing.

The first thing I ever wanted for Xmas...

I remember I wanted Double Dragon for the NES more than anything else. We had only recently gotten an NES, and had "girly" games like Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers (although now I'm truly fond of that game). There wasn't nothing "cool" to be had, except this legendary, violent game that everyone except me was playing!

I told my aunt, unbeknownced to my mom or dad, and she actually did get it for me! My parents were PISSED, but they eventually let me keep it...

After being grounded for two months (February)...

Ha, ha. BOY did I want these... Well, any of these really...

Of course, I'm not sure that these were the exact dolls that I wanted, but my friend and my sister and I were absolutely OBESSED with Sailor Moon when we were kids, and my friend had a Sailor Moon doll and I was so jealous! :animeangr

Tee hee. Never actually got it, but that's okay. I didn't need it. :animeswea

For the longest time i used to want this laboratory play set thingy that made gummy worms and other types of candy. I wanted it so bad! But i could never remember what the thing was called so i could never really tell santa what i wanted, it was always a vague 6-year-old's description, which wasn't enough for good ol' santa to ever deliver. :'( Yes, cry for me. Anyways, i think i found what i wanted.

Still looks good to me now. And i'm a college student. ^L^

Wow, a lot of these toys really bring back memories... and the fact at how cheap they were. XD

Anyway, I can't believe nobody has said this yet, but I've always wanted the Easy Bake Oven when I was little... I mean, making food in a cute pink and purple oven! What more could you want?!

Ahh, yes... when I finally recieved one, I had good times with it: making cakes and junk for my mom and me, always wondering why they tasted a little funny but didn't really care and thinking that I could actually cook for a living. This toy was my refuge for making me think I could make all kinds of food... ironic. XD

A few weeks later, the damn thing's lightbulb burnt out and poof... no more junk food. I finally realized that the Easy Bake Oven really sucks... totally.

I forgot what it's called, but that magical sand stuff that you put in water and becomes dry when you take it out. I never got it, so I have no idea if it really worked, lol. But my sister and I got our first dog instead, so I immediately forgot about it. P:

And an Ant Farm, which I did get, but it turned out to be a disaster and all my ants died within a week or so.

And Sea Monkeys. Yes, Sea Monkeys. Never got 'em, but over the phone one day I found out one of my friends bought some for me for this year's Christmas. :D

Oh Sara, how I love thee. I shall go back, waaay back, at least 25 years to answer this question for you. Hopefully this makes up for some of the youngins. ;)

Well, there is always the number one item (dare I call it that) on my list from when I was very, very young: a pony. I never did get one. I had a friend whom I rode the school bus with and there was this ranch we would drive by on the way home and we use to make plans on how we were going to sneak out at night and steal the horses. LOL Yeah, 6 year old horse thieves. Anyway, one year she actually did get a horse. I was so incredibly jealous.

As for something that would fit under the tree:

Now this is old school gaming. I remember when my dad bought this new fangled thing that played games on the television. We ended up getting it, I believe, in 1980 or somewhere around that time period. The Odyseey originally came out in 1979. I remember playing Space Invaders and Pong. That was so cool. I still remember that it had a particular smell to it. Kinda like warm plastic and stryrofoam when we would play it.

I think my brother still has this game system. Hmm, I wonder if it still works. :p

A Gameboy Pocket, complete with

Seriously, I almost died when I opened my presents and discovered I had actually got it. I was one of the first people in my area to get a Gameboy, and when I did I was the toast of the town.

One word for y'all...

Tamagotchi.

Yessss...it was the craze, and I wanted one so bad. I wound up with a Tamagotchi and a Giga Pet; one coming from one set of grandparents and the other from, well, the other set of grandparents.

My pets lived, sadly, very short lives usually...and I traded my alien tamagotchi for a friend's bear who abandoned me...XD Yes. It abandoned me!

I got about 4 of those art things before, and the markers were always dry(but I still loved mine too lol!) I figured out that there was better stuff when my mom gave me my good pencils for Christmas when I was fifteen. I remember always wanting cooking gadgets. Now all I've got is a pastry blender, a juicer, and every time I go to Bed Bath and Beyond, I play with a whisk that would make a better cat toy.

I wanted a Doodle Bear desperately. Remember those? The jeans-bears you'd draw on with these washable pens, and they'd wash clean?

...

In theory. The marker always came off on my hands, and the bear kinda shrunk after repeated washings. >> But I loved it anyways.

I still have him in a box somewhere....

I wanted one of those Cabbage Patch Doll things. I eventually got one... when I was about four or something. The first day with it was fun, but then, in the middle of the night... I realized how damn creepy it was.

I don't think it left the closet for... ever.

Watch, it falls on me one day when I'm in the basement.
Oh great.

I don't really recall the very first gifts i ever wanted, but i remember going nuts for the original power ranger action figures. I got 3 of them for one christmas because my mom couldn't find the pink one or the black one. My dad ended up getting me the two i didn't have a few days later, lol.

Even earlier than that though, i do remember wanting the Startropics game for NES for a while before I actually got it. I did get it on a christmas, and let me tell you i still remember that game like the back of my hand, it was friggen awesome. I played 2 as well, but it was nowhere near as good as 1.

I used to have one of those! I loved it to death! I don't think it lasted very long for me either. Still, isn't it weird to see commercials for it again? Same as those moon shoes...

Anyway, I can't remember exactly what I wanted way back when; I do remember going through the American Girl catalogue every year and always picking out so many things, just loved it. For a few years, me and my sister would always do that, and ask for at least one or two things from the catalogue for Christmas.

Oh, but the year I got my American Girl doll, Felicity, was the best. My sister also got Kirsten, so we would play with them often. I also remember loving the fact that Felicity and I shared the same birthday (April 21st).

Jays, from looking at the posts so far, I guess I'm the wierdo who never had a real interest in video/handheld games.

I craved LEGOs. LEGOs, Hot Wheels, books, and board games were primarily what I wanted, but LEGOs most of all. I spent literal hours building random stuff with the sets I had, unless I happened to like a set, in which case I spared it the requisite deconstruction.

Sara, I got that exact binder years ago. My brother got an identical one. That led to arguments.

I wanted a chemistry set one year ... goodness knows why, I'm not in the least bit sciencey nowadays. But I had images of beakers and burners and long glass tubes with coloured stuff bubbling inside, and instead it was more like a plastic cupboard full of little vials, and a book of totally safe experiments to do. I don't think stuff exploded, or even changed colour, in any of them.

Sara, I got that exact binder from my cousin Adam who picked my name out of a grab bag the same night my brother got one of the very first Game Boys from his Godparents. You know those huge clunky things that you could kill someone with and the graphics were crap and they were over ninety dollars? He got that I got an art set. But I really didn't care because I had paint! Christmas Eve was complete.

One year I really wanted the Barbie Magic sounds house because my friend Megan had it and I had gone over to her house and in between sliding down the railing, watching Pretty Woman and trying out roller skates in the hall on her floor (Her house was/is huge, old and split into three sparate parts. The hallway on the floor where her bedroom was was pretty decent sized even though we had to watch out for the antique carosel horse) we played Barbies. But my mom had said that the doll house was too expensive (My parents were paying tuition for my brother and I) so I couldn't get it. And I never did get it so my Barbies were homeless. :animecry:

I can identify with Panda about wanting a horse for Christmas. I still want a horse for Christmas. One year I almost talked my ex into buying me one of the horses that the farm I ride at was selling, but he backed out at the last minute. In hindsight I guess that's a good thing because I would have had to sell the horse anyway. So I'm twenty-five and horseless.

One of the oddest things I ever REALLY wanted for Christmas was a bra. Yes people I wanted a bra. I even remember how old I was (eight) and that my mom kept telling me that once I got a bra I'd never be able not to wear one. But I really wanted a bra. So Christmas day we were over my grandparents house opening presents and I was bummed because I hadn't gotten a bra. So I got to the last present and opened it and there was a box for thank you cards. I actually asked my mom what would I want thank you cards for, and she's like to say thank you. So I opened the box up and there was my first bra. :animeswea I haven't gone without one since then.... :animesigh

Eh after the bra thing I don't think anyone wants to know anything else.
