Tatsubei Yagyu
Made a thread for the manga...Next the anime! :P The anime, thank goodness, is fatefully following the manga, currently, so this time, I'm gonna use a summary from Animes News Network:
Allen Walker is a young Exorcist who has a cursed eye that can see the suffering of the Akumas created by The Millenium Earl. He travels to England to the Headquarters of the Exorcists where his Master has sent him to meet with the other Exorcists. The battle with the Millenium Earl and the Noah Family vs. the Exorcists intensifies when some of the best Exorcists begin to get killed by hoards of Akuma. Japan takes center stage in this end of 19th Century plot in order to not let the entire human race be turned into Akumas and the Exorcists have the power of "Innocence" that was given to them by God on their side.
I'm a little sad no one has mentioned it yet, considering the anime came out the exact same day as Death Note's did. :( I've only seen the first three episodes, but I know the story from what I've read from the manga. Pretty much, I love the anime as much as the manga, sans a couple baby complaints I have regarding how some things were done. I think Allen looks a little older than he should, as he's only like fifteen...but that may be the fault of anime being colored, as I'm used to it being white like most everything else. They also skipped Chapters 2-4, for some reason, which kinda sucks considering I really wanted to see it animated... :animeangr But, that's okay...I love Allen's voice, as he sounds as young as he should, but still...<,< Also, I've been reading Kanda's voice wrong, as I thought he would sound more, jerky, bur I'm glad it didn't as it would of been pretty stereo-typical. :animesmil So if anyone has watched this anime, post your opinions, as I rarely hear any... ;)
Meggido
They also skipped Chapters 2-4, for some reason, which kinda sucks considering I really wanted to see it animated... :animeangr
Not quite. They did however put the those chapters into eps at eps 6 and 7 after the mission with Kanda. This sort of breaks down the flow and in my opinion they didn't quite capture the point of those chapters as well as they could of. I'm hoping those are the only chapters the rearrange in the anime because anymore could change a lot. This next bit was my response on another thread that ended up being locked and a bit outdated now as I've seen 8 eps: I've been following D.Gray-man. In fact I downloaded the first ep of the series and a friend suggested I should read the manga and so I to what has been released. It has not strayed away from the manga at all with the exception of moving some events. Chances are this could be another long series like Bleach or Naruto. Or it could be that they just haven't decided on how many eps yet. As for my opinion I've enjoyed the four eps I've watched, though I do find Allen's voice a bit annoying. In my opinion it sounds a bit too childish, and after reading the manga I would have thought it would sound slightly more mature then it does. Raiyuu
Chapters 2-4 were the "
OMG Allen Akuma-ified his father
" mini-arc, right? I was glad they saved that up, personally (though I haven't read the manga myself). I hate it when the protagonist's dark past gets revealed too early. I think they could even have spun it out further, but that would just annoy manga fans even more, I guess. Having said that, the "revelation" that
Lenalee is also an exorcist
probably lost power by being moved back in the arc. Allen exclaiming "
What? Lenalee's also an exorcist?
" in episode six begs the reaction "she's been wearing the uniform for four episodes, you idiot!". .:EDIT:. Oh yeah, I almost forgot - I nearly died laughing when Toma announces (with considerable gravitas) the name of
Lenalee's Innocence weapon - "DARK BOOTS!"
Sometimes Engrish works, and sometimes it just. sounds. silly.
Meggido
Just watched ep13 and must say that this series just gets better and better as long as they stick to the storyline. Looking at the preview for ep 14 however, it looks like they're going to throw in a few filler eps which is a bit disappointing. I mean I read the manga and know how the story goes but at the same time it's cool seeing what I already know happens animated.
shadowmovement
I love D.Gray-Man, I read most of the manga and I just finished the third episode and there is little difference between anime manga. I think that it changes from the manga from what I saw on wikipedia. With that being said I think my favorite character would be Komui, he's so weird.
