So, uh, any articles this week, or do I have to start banning people at random so that we can get an article on how Charles finally lost it and joined the ranks of notable bans?

I'll start with 2007Digitalboy, so don't tempt me!
I've been working on one for BKstyles, but it's not quite finished yet. So I'm not sure if it would be done in time for this week's update. Though for sure it would be for next week since I'll have it finished either today or tomorrow.

Well you can always combine them and make one incredibly informative article.

Anyway, is anyone writing an article about the Nifty Fifty? I would assume not, but I just want to make sure.

And yes, I am going to keep writing articles about my own stuff. Nobody else is.

I've just been going through BKstyles posts the past week to pick up info as well as checking into his stuff over at theOtaku. I was going to be sending him a pm later either today or tomorrow to check what I wrote. lol

And yeah, do as Shy suggested, put what you have up and I'll combine the two. :catgirl:

Heh, how flattering that two people want to write an article on lil ol' me :animesmil.

Well, aside from that I'm actually here on business. Noticing that the Otakuboard Survivor thread covers the first three, I have begun working on an article covering OBS4, and it will come to a completion when the event itself does as well. Unsure of how much longer it will actually run, it could be a few months, but it should be a complete article.

Wanted to make sure it was known ahead of time before anyone else decided to work on one.

All right Charles... Looks like DB is off the hook as far as banning goes. At least for this week. :p He sent me what he had done on BKstyles and I combined it with what I had.

Feel free to speak up if we missed anything BKstyles. ^_~

BKStyles

BKStyles (or BK for short) initially joined myOtaku on March 20, 2006. A short while later he also joined Otakuboards on April 11, 2006. BKstyles is known mostly for his excellence in posting since in no time he quickly showed an in-depth interest in many different animes by not only his responses at OtakuBoards in various threads. But by six articles he submitted to theOtaku before the article side of theOtaku was sadly retired by the site founder Adam. Though the articles are still available for reading. Articles BKstyles has never been one for starting threads but he?s quite visible in many of the anime and game threads and most recently the Adventure Square where he?s been participating in RPG?s for quite some time.

BKStyles has played in some of the more successful RPG?s in the past year including Citius Altius Fortius, Otakuboards Survivor 4 (which is still running), and both the Labyrinth and Panopticon (which is also still running and is the third in what has come to be known as the ?death card? series). In addition to his excellent RPGing and writing skills, BKStyles is also an intellectual with an affinity for psychology and deep thoughts. As he put it himself:
?I'm big into writing, hoping to turn it into some kind of career as long as it's less lack-luster then the majority of writing jobs out there. I'd call myself a writer without any professional endorsements, but most of the stuff I write cept for the articles I send to theotaku are mainly for my self-enjoyment. I write fiction stories, fanfics, articles, pretty much anything I find interesting. I also specialize in persuasive writing. If I had to do anything else as a profession it would be psychology based. I've been interested in psychology and the way the human mind works and what it's capable of since high school.?
It comes as no surprise that BKStyles was officially declared nifty in the Otakuboards Nifty Fifty of 2007 with the following quote that truly explains BK in the best way possible. As Tekkaman put it for the Nifty Fifty nomination:

"Because BK, with his constant planning for something new, his unblemished attitude, and funny disposition on and off the site, is a truly dedicated member of OtakuBoards. He always tries his best at whatever he posts and lets others know he's only there to help, even when the person he's helping doesn't want it. For these reasons mainly, he's truly Nifty on OB." The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty is an annual Community Event created by Shy in 2005. At the start of each year fifty members, threads and things are selected as being ?nifty? by the community, thus creating a fun and nostalgic look back on the site?s past year.

The Nifty Fifty was designed to be a more objective and inclusive version of the popular Otaku Awards. Covering a wide variety of topics, the Otaku Awards? winners were always the site?s most popular members and often OtakuBoards staff. This was because the Otaku Awards relied on member voting to decide the winners, which meant they were little more than a popularity contest. 2004?s Otaku Awards proved to be the most biased yet, and it was ultimately decided that they should be discontinued in favor of something new.

For the Nifty Fifty members are allowed to nominate up to ten items. However, unlike the Otaku Awards the winners selected in the Nifty Fifty are not necessarily the fifty who have received the most nominations. At the start of the nominations process a diverse group of members, ?The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty Committee? are selected by the Event Master to compile a list of the fifty nominations they feel best represent the community. Each member of the committee comes up with an individual list, and from those the final list is compiled by the Event Master.

Individual banners for each of the fifty winners were added to 2006?s awards, adding a new visual appeal to the event. These banners are created by volunteers from within the community, and have proven to be just as prized as the awards themselves. Unfortunately the creation of these banners take a great deal of time, and contributes to the nearly month-long gap between the end of nominations and the announcement of the winners.

While the demand for voting-based awards come up from time to time, members have fully embraced the concept of the Otaku Awards. Each annual installment of the event is more popular than the last.

Saw this one in the requested articles. I had no idea this forum had been so dead before. Never would've thought the Panopticon was the longest-running underground thread.

Adventure Underground

The Adventure Underground came into existence in mid-2004 and brought something much needed to the world of OB role-playing - order. Most of the role-plays on OB would feature posts in the threads with lots of OOC (or Out of Character) discussion happening on the sidelines. For role-plays that involved a lot of player discussion or when things got heated between members, the massive OOC portions could get in the way and were generally ugly in the main thread posts, especially for people who were just reading along with the story.

The underground thread served many important purposes. The first is to discuss ideas for new role-playing games to find out if they would stand enough of a chance to be created. The next was so that all OOC discussion would be moved from the main thread, and finally it allowed a place to talk about role-playing in general.

Like with the role-playing games themselves, discussions on the games require a rating so that if someone wants to follow with the underground, they will no what to expect.

Some time in mid-late-2006, Jokopoko created a ?Coming Attractions? sticky for people showcasing new ideas to come. By PMing ideas to Joko, he would post them up. For whatever reason, the thread died rather quickly after creation.

The vast majority of underground threads have been incredibly short-lived, especially in the early days when most died out before reaching ten posts. Only the most successful and long-running role-plays have managed to range from 50-100 posts. In recent months, the Underground threads have become more and more active, sometimes outweighing the posts in the main thread.

To date, the longest running and probably most dramatic underground thread has been the one for The Panopticon Underground with well over 500 posts and still going strong.

Ajeh

Ajeh joined Otakuboards sometime in in early v2. He was one of the first newbies to make a name for himself after the switch from V1, and along with other notable members Sephiroth and killermon dominated many threads (although usually derailing them with nonsense involving catscans).

Although he has perhaps never made a huge impact on the boards, he has been an almost constant presence since he registered. Possibly his most notable achievement was ministering at the wedding of OB legends Pyromunkie and Queen Asuka. Ajeh ties with Desert Shadow for being the most amiable member in the history of the site, and is almost universally loved. His original name, AJ2K1 AKA MegaSaiyanBrolly, is easily the most ridiculous username ever.

Unfortunately, Ajeh is also English, and therefore backwards. However, most people recognize that this is a birth defect, and no one really blames him.

Indeed!

Isn't Ajeh's user name a throwback to the old trend of adding '-Eh' at the end of everyone's user name? I know James was 'Jeh,' and Break was 'Weh.' Someone tried to call me 'Sheh,' but it never really stuck.

Yeah, I can tell you where that came from.

It came from a conversation between Russell (Break) and I. We used to chat really regularly and Russell was talking about something one day...I forget what it was, but basically he was trying to potray himself as being really tough. So I started calling him Wussell as a joke, lol.

And from there, we shortened it to Weh. I think one of his usernames on AIM was "Slipweh" (instead of Slipknot). And yeah, it sort of grew from there...

I miss some of those members. I haven't spoken to Weh for ages. Maybe I should write an Otakupedia entry about him if I can remember enough. He had a few other weird nicknames too (like Chocobeek, Beek and Beek-Weh).

God, I miss Break and Andy. For the record Ginny used to call me Meh. I ended up getting the name Sir Meh to be alongside Andy's AIM name of Sir Zeh at the time, too.

How... appropriate.

I remember that fad as well. Boy it got me confused when suddenly everybody were talking about "-eh"s - I didn't have clue who half of these nicknames belonged to!

Well, I wasn't in the "circles" then... Not that I am much now, either, but I have managed to gather a little circle of my own. [/end of Sandy's reminiscing]

If anybody were to make an entry on me, I would've betted everything on it being N lol.
Funny you should mention Desert Shadow in it though, because I originally started creating all my posts in bold in homage to him after he announced he was leaving OB. I think I kept that up for a good couple of years too lol.

As for the '-eh', Break dubbed me one straight after him and James and then Andy and eventually everyone else too lol. Then everybody ditched and I still kept it as my username and email address and everything lol.

Now remember it's been a very long time since the following events have happened. I am going try and recall some of the major events which have passed while I have been a member here.

The Great Wind Fish
I remember first stumbling on this site looking for video game advice. If I am not mistaken it was Link's Awakening for GBC. That is how I got my user name the Great Wind Fish. Nothing really happened for the next few months I just got into the community meeting people and chatting. Some of the people I really got to know right away were ZeroxSama, Cody, Stardust, Nerve, and countless others.

My Month Ban
Soon into my visit on these boards I started getting IM's saying that OtakuBoards was going be hacked. I reported these declarations, with Stardust as a witness, only to be told I was lying by I think his name was Vash. So over time I kept getting IMs and kept reporting them. Over time Vash gave me a month ban for "making up stuff." H-Bomb believed me but he didn't want to go over Vash's head and unban me. So I went a month without posting.

The Invasion
Thimoc, the lead poster decided to quit and I guess go out with a bang. He made a few accounts and him and his buddy decided to spam the boards with nonsense and in a few instances pornography. They were quickly banned and never seen again.

Version 2(I think)
I remember when we were changing boards. The user names were being deleted along with my 1500 post count. Many people were upset but I didn't care. Adam let me and a few other people test the forums a few hours before everyone else. I think I was user #10.

The Post Race
So the post race began. Everybody tried to get the most posts and I was on top for a few days until Firemac started posting like it seemed 24/7. He quickly overtook me. I dropped to second. I remained in the top 3 for a few month until I got bored of it and than I just quit OtakuBoards quite abruptly.

Member: Keyblade Wielder
Since: 10-05

Keyblade Wielder, a rather popular Otakuboards member, joined in October of 2005. Nearly instantly she spread herself out over multiple sections of the boards and made herself well known in a well-rounded fashion. Spanning primarily between the Hardwired, Anime Lounge, Manga Workshop, and Otaku Lounge within the first couple of months of her joining, it was made undeniably clear that three things would become synonymous with her name throughout her duration at Otakuboards: Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and crazy fangirl-ness. Being well aware of who she was, and proud of it as well, she has professed her fondest interests and never once held back because of a fear of how she would be perceived.

It wasn?t very long after she joined that the GFX artist we have come to know and love today got her start. December of 2005, she showcased her first photoshop projects and left them open for criticism. Realizing her inclination, she undertook many requests under a modest attitude that she had always expected someone better to come along and make a better banner or avatar then she had. Within the next year?s time she would flourish into one of those elite GFX artist that she had always expected to one-up her. Aside from satisfying many requests, the ever popular OB Graphics Worm was another project KW has taken part in.

In March of 2006, KW found herself taking part in her very first RP in the Adventure Square. .hack//THE WORLD created by Nomura. It was the beginning of another discovery that would see her spending much time in the Square, participating in many more RPs to this day. Taking part in many RPs, once upon a time KW started her own RP which enjoyed mild success. It was themed, of course, based off of Kingdom Hearts, and was entitled Kingdom Hearts: Shadows of Fate. An all around great member with many friends on the boards, with a knack in both GFX and RPing, Keyblade Wielder has left her staple and continues to enjoy her time here as one of OB?s most balanced members.

Though with everything she may be known for, what really makes her shine is in fact her personality. Ask anyone that has even posted in a thread with her, let alone those with the privilege of knowing her, she is one of the friendliest and kindest people you could ever meet. She'll not only be your shoulder to cry on, but cry on her shoulder along with you. She'll always have a smile waiting for you if you need it, and if you don't need it. But when you see it, you'll know to be greatful for it. Taking the path of most resistance not only on the boards but in the world as well, she is genuinely liked because she truly is a wonderful human being.

The Razr Incident

The Razr Incident refers to a thread titled "Motorola Razr" that was started in August of 2006 by DaSilva, who wanted to obtain an unblock code for his "aquired" Motorola Razr.

Things quickly backlashed against DaSilva when the suspiciousness of his acquisition was questioned by the other members, who feared that it had been stolen. DaSilva attempted to pour water on this fire by denying that he had stolen the phone... he had merely found it in a park and decided to keep it. Members were at pains to point out that keeping the phone just because you found it was still stealing by definition. However, DaSila had discovered that the phone belogned to the captain of the wrestling team, who was allegedly a jerk. It wasn then that he decided to take the moral high ground, and claim the aquired phone was an act of karma, punishing the original owner of the phone for his misdeeds. It was quickly pointed out to him that keeping the phone could only result in bad Karma in and of itself, a point that was apparently lost on him.

The thread took it's best, and most amusing turn, when member John conducted an investigation into DaSilva that ended with him calling up DaSilva's school and advising the vice principal. John was hailed as a hero by the member base, and a flurry of "DaSilva got pwned" replies ensued. Deathknight ran with the idea and casually suggested that they could form a taskforce that would go about "wtfpwning crime" on OtakuBoards, and thus, Super Otaku Force was born. A force consisting of, at it's peak, 10 members. They were; John, Deathknight, White, Sangome, Illikon Retribution, Revelation, SunfallE, Aaryanna and Lunox. This includes Gavin, who claimed the spot of the disembodied master, existing inside a giant tube.

DaSilva remained defiant in the face of this new crime fighting elite, claiming that John was either lying about calling up the school, or got the wrong one. However, Retribution was quick to point out that, yes, they had the right school and that follow up calls would be made in the morning.

After one last-ditch attempt to convince the Otaku members that he was the good guy, painting himself as the modern-day equivalent of Robin Hood. James closed the thread on him. It was never known wether or not the school caught up with DaSilva, or what became of the phone.

 • 3 weeks later...
So, I'm determined to actually update Otakupedia this week, but the lack of contributions hasn't done the project any favors.

What I'm trying to say is, that if anyone could, you know, write something, it would lighten up the load on me so that I don't have to write about three or four articles on my own this week. :animesigh

The Anthology Revolution

Over the coarse of the past few months the Adventure Underground section has become far more alive than it ever was. Whereas in the past most threads featured very little posts, nearly half of the threads on the front page now feature over 50 posts and some have hundreds. This may be partially owed to the Panopticon Underground?s rampant and popular activity, as the surge in these massive topics seemed to come about right around the time of the massive thread?s slow death at 608 posts.
