Bumble looked at the gathered animals from his vantage point on the log, his nose twitching as he considered his crack team of human-scarer-offerers. He'd spent a long time confering with Mr Beaver over who would join his force of mini-guerillas, and together they'd ascertained these were the animals for the job. He smiled a hare-smile.

"Welcome Forest Friends!"

"Hi!" Hodgepodge cried back.

"I'm sure you know why we're here," he said as he began marching back and forth down the log. "The humans have gone too far and we have to stop them, and drive them away!" He stopped marching for a half-second to let it sink in before continuing, his voice rising steadily. "We will need to use all our wit, skills, and teamwork to make them go away. It might be dangerous, we might get hurt, but we have to do it, for the good of Brickory Forest. Who's with me?!" Bumble thrust his little paw into the air, but no one followed suit. Sunny slowly raised her hand, seemed to decide otherwise, and pulled it back.

"Poop," he muttered, deflated. Mr Beaver shook his head, slowly climbed onto the log, and stood beside him, patting the ego-bruised hare on the head.

"I think what my friend means is that it will be a lot of fun, and even if you might get hurt, it's for the forest anyway." He peered down his nose at the animals. "For your friends, and your family..." At once 5 hands shot up, ready to serve.

"Brilliant! Now, as a scholar I've ascertained our first job should be to see what's going on at the human's building site. Wouldn't you agree, Bumble?"

Bumble, now animated that his old friend had guilt-tripped his legions into service, nodded fast. Mr Beaver smiled. "Any questions?"

OOC: If you want an Underground thread, PM me. I'm not sure about those things, they've always made me feel uncomfortable, but if you people desire one, it will be so. Anyway, have fun in my RP.
Sapphire raised her white paw timidly. Having lived in the human world for much of her life, she knew firsthand of all about the dangers that a construction site presented.

"I think we should travel at night," she suggested, "Humans usually stay indoors when it's late, so we could explore while they're away."

All of the Forest Friends nodded in agreement.

"I love to travel at night!" Sunny the Dormouse said proudly.

"As do I," Eve, a suspicious looking Pine Marten, added. She moved closer towards the rodent, licking her paws as she approached.

"I propose we split up into groups. This delicious looking Dormouse and I can search the grounds, and report back our findings."

Eve wrapped her long tail around Sonny, grinning darkly. The other Forest Friends, oblivious to Eve's true intentions, seemed quite inviting to the idea. The exception to this was, of course, Bumble, who wanted to be a hero that day.

"It will be nothing, dear friends." Eve bowed gracefully, "But before I travel I would like... a bite... to eat."

Sunny began to tremble as Eve moved in closer and closer.

Realizing he no longer had control of the operation, Bumble decided to speak up.

"We'll all eat together! But I think that I should lead them onto the construction site."

"And why is that, Bumble?" Eve asked.

"Because I'm the hare, of course."

"I WANNA GO TOO!" Hodgepodge screamed.

One by one all of the Forest Friends volunteered to join the brave Sunny, and the hungry Eve for their adventure.

"You know, it's like the saying goes," Mr. Beaver said sagely, "Ask not what your forest can do for you, but... eh.... what 50% discounts are in stores now through Saturday!"

Everyone considered what Mr. Beaver had said carefully. Even if it didn't make any sense.
"Fifty percent discounts..." Sunny repeated to herself. She had no idea what kind of animal a ?dis? was, and could barely count to five, much less fifty, but if Mr. Beaver talked about it, it had to be important.

She looked fearfully at Eve for a moment, remembering the fear of being eaten. Then she looked at how pretty Eve?s tail was, and how fluffy, and thought how it would be better for her own tail to be that fluffy, and? what was she thinking about again? Something about lunch? Acorns sounded good.

?Hey Bumble, do we get to use acorns in any way?? asked Sunny.

?For lunch, maybe,? said Bumble, glancing at Eve. ?But first let?s??

?I hate acorns,? said Hodgepodge.

?But you?re a squirrel, and squirrels eat nuts,? said Sunny.

?I am not a squirrel, I am a hare!? yelled Hodgepodge.

?You?re a squir-r-r-el,? sang Sunny.

?Rabbit.?

?Squirrel!?

?Rabbit!?

?Fine, you win,? relented Sunny. ?You?re a rabbit.?

?Exactly,? replied the reddish brown squirrel-who-thought-she-was-a-rabbit. ?Wait, I win what??

?A hug!?

Sunny leaped upon Hodgepodge, who began to scream and flail. Sapphire watched them from the side. Sunny interpreted her look as being sad, so she pounced upon the kitten, as well.

?I must be cursed if a dormouse can catch a rabbit-slash-squirrel and a kitten, while I can't catch anything," sighed Jinx the lynx.

Mr. Beaver patted her consolingly on the shoulder.

Sapphire the Kitten looked at the friends she had made in the forest. It hadn't been easy, as she had been very frightened when Jinx the Lynx had first found her.

Jinx was like a mother to Sapphire, big and warm and caring, although she too was still young. The lynx had introduced the lost kitten to the rest of the gang, and now Sapphire was joining them for their very first adventure.

Somehow, Sapphire still felt sad. Maybe it was because they were leaving the safety of the woods behind and traversing to the world of big, bad humans. Sapphire didn't want to think that she had to go there again.

But then again, the forest wasn't that safe anymore, because the humans were destroying it. The safest place for a little white kitten to be right now was with Jinx and the others. Her forest friends.

Bumble raised an eyebrow as the little mouse tackle-hugged everyone in the immediate vicinity, her little cries of glee making his nose twitch in annoyance. Why wasn't he getting a hug? He was the leader! Just because he was kind of bossy... He shook his head hard. If Sunny wanted to deprive herself from hugging the best hare in the forest, that was her problem.

"I guess we'll meet back here when the sun goes down?" he said loudly, trying to get over the dormouse's giggling.

"Sure thing boss!" Hodgepodge cried suddenly before making a hasty escape from Sunny, her small frantic hops looking rather absurd, even for a squirrel. Bumble just stared at her in amazement for a moment, before leaving himself with everyone else soon following suit, yelling breezy goodbyes to each other. Forest Friends indeed!

~~~~~
It was dark. The only light came from the moon, bathing the small glen in bright, ethereal glow. Everyone except Sunny looked a little tired (Mr Beaver double-y so, as he'd spent his afternoon reading scraps of catalogues before adding them to his dam), but they all had a determined look about them. Even if they weren't usually nocturnal, they were going to do their best. Bumble smiled.
"The human's building site is about umm..." He stopped for a moment and tapped his foot as he tried to remember what Mr Beaver had told him.
"A 'mile'," Mr Beaver reminded him.
"Yes," Bumbled nodded. "A mile that way!" He pointed to his left. "We best be going right away."
"How far is a mile?" Lynx yawned. Bumble shrugged, not knowing.
"Not too far my dear," Mr Beaver answered reassuringly as he started to walk in the direction of the building site. "Barely a skip and a hop!" Trusting Mr Beaver, the group slowly began to follow him into the forest. They were only a skip and a hop away!
Hours passed, and the Forest Friends were becoming increasingly tired. Eve's tongue, which had been drooling over the prospect of eating a certain Dormouse for desert, was now bone dry. Even Hodgepodge, whose energy was unmatched, was starting to wind down.
"Whereitthis ..mile...we're....loking...for...?" The squirrel said weakly, yawning between words.
"A mile is a form of measurement," Mr. Braver corrected, "It should only be--"
"A skip and a hop away!" The group rudely interrupted.
"I'm beginning to think we're lost," Sapphire said meekly, "That tree over there looks like a tree we've passed before."
Jinx attempted to console Sapphire.
"Don't worry, Sapphire. Mr. Beaver has lived in this forest longer than any of us. I'm sure he knows his way around."
"Indeed I do," Mr. Beaver said as he squinted, attempting find his way through the dense forest. While it was true that Mr. Beaver was an expert on the forest during the day, at night he had difficulty seeing the paws in front of him.
He leaned in and grabbed a small pebble he found on the ground.
"Ah, just as I suspected!"
"WhatisitMisterBeaver?!" Hodgepodge asked excitedly.
"This pebble on the ground isn't a pebble at all, it's a stone!"
"..."
"This is a sure a sign as any that we're only a stone's throw away from the construction site! Faster, Forest Friends, so that we can save our homes!"
Led by the blind Mr. Beaver, the Forest Friends continued traveling deeper and deeper into the dark forest.
