kizu
Well yesterday (Christmas day) the post office called over to my house at about 9:00. They had gotten to packages for us. One of them was a GCD (game cube deluxe). That was really really cool because that was my Christmas present from my exchange student. And would you belive that, it came and we got it on Christmas Day. How lucky is that. But since i have no luck after we opened all of our presents when we went to hook it up we had some trouble. After it was hooked up we had some more trouble. It only plays dick from japan. So talk about good luck, I get a GC and it doesn't work and play either of my GC games. Fall
That's because a Japanese GC reads info on the Japanese games, and this info is in Japanese language. American games have this same info, except it is in American language. So the Japanese GC just doesn't play them, because it can't read American language. Same goes for the American GC, it can't read the info on Japanese games, because it is in a different language. Just buy a Mod-Chip, and it will help you. Mod-Chips just convert the info on any foreign discs to the same language that the GC you have has. So in your case, it will convert the American language info, into Japanese so your GC can read it. :D .....just a little thing that come out of my head. Sorry if it's too long. :)
Deedlit
Look at it this way. It might be useful if you were learning Japanese. :D

I thought that was common sense... anyone and everyone SHOULD know that game systems in America are different from their Japanese counterparts. As far as I know, mod chips only work for American systems, however I've never tried it on a non-american one... so therefor i wouldn't know. Anyway, oh well... you should be thankfull your friend sent you something .... just go buy an American Cube ... or buy Japanese games, but i'm sure you don't know any Japanese, so thats out of the question.
Actually, it would have been smarter to import a pre-modded Japanese GameCube. Pre-modded Japanese machines can play North American games as well as Japanese ones. :) It's very unadvisable to import a game console unless it's modded, or unless you plan to purchase Japanese games for the rest of your life.
