Hey out there!

I'm sure a few of you out there had heard of the new show on "Adult Swim", "Metalopacolypse". I got to admit, this show is great, and I love the music for it.
For those of you who don't know, "Metalopacolypse" is the story of DETHKLOK, the most popular metal band in the world. With their legions of fans, billions of dollars, and the mighty power of metal, they basicly have misadventures, while unknow to them, they are being watched by a secret orginization called the Tribural. They belive that DETHKLOK is could one day destroy the world, acording to an ancient text they have found. They might be right. Fans that go to their concerts have to sign wavers stating that the band if no way responcible for any maimings, disfigurements, or even deaths at their concerts. Their fans will do basicly anything the band tells them, not to mention they have more money than any band in history.
The band members are lead guitarist Skiwsgaar Skwigelf, rythm guitarist Toki Wartooth, bass guitarist William Murderface, their drummer, Pickles, and lead vocalist Nathan Explosion.
One of the best things about this show, is the music. I'm a big fan of their songs, even one of their songs is on Guitar Hero II.

Any DETHKLOK fans out there?

"KAMEHAMEHA!"

HUGE Dethklok fan.

Definetly one of the funniest shows to roll onto the [adult swim] line up in a while. I love each member of the band, and the greatest supporting character of all time, Dr. Rockso, the Rock 'n' Roll Clown (He does cocaine...).

I'm not a huge metal fan, past a little Pantera and old school stuff, but Dethklok I'm actually a big fan of Dethklok's music. It's just straight hardcore, and this is coming from a guy who primarily listens to almost nothing but Rap/Hip Hop. (A friend of mine, a hardcore musician and metal fan has informed me that Dethklok is actually a great metal band, fictional or not.)

I've seen every episode and I loved each and every one of them. So much so that William Murderface and Dethklok are in my top friends on mySpace. Great show. Great band.

It's Metalocalypse, fyi.

And I love the show for the most part. There are some great metal inside jokes and great references to bands (black metal bands in particular, i.e. "Marduk's Putt Putt Extravaganza", or the movie producer by the name of "Mr. Grishnackh").

What sucks about it is that it's being marketed at Hot Topic, meaning the mallcore crowd will pick up on it and... well, you know how that ends up. :animesigh

The best supporting character on the show is obviously Charles Foster Ofdensen, the band's awesome manager. Though Dr. Rockso probably did hold the title up until the season finale.

Agreed. Ofdensen is apparently some master of combat, because he jacked that other fellow up. Also, he's just a straight boss-type guy. One of my favorite quotes was from the episode when Rockso befriended Toki. After telling Rockso to leave, Ofdensen said to the henchmen:

"Put the boots to him, medium-style..."

Which meant a mean stomping for Dr. Rockso outside the mansion. Rockso would later reply in a just as funny quote;

"Don't worry, Dr. Rockso just pullin' ya ch-ch-chain. But you did have my a** beat. And that ******* hurt!"

Love the guy.

Two of my favorite characters for the same reasons listed above. Dr. Rockso is just sadly funny. "I do cocain" lasted two weeks in my school, enough said. Just curious, would anyone else find waking up and finding a half-naked clown digging in your front pocket creepy or is it just me?

I freaking love this show, and my mom is OBSESSED with it. We managed to record all the episodes during the marathon and watch them all the time.

this show is pure brilliance AND it's metal!!! All the characters go so well together, all having their own personalities but all being totally freaking stupid. I love when they get into those band moments where they act like a family in totally stupid ways, it's hilarious. 'We cares about yous!!" lqtm.

The best part has to be Toki ans Squwisgar's horribly broken english and general misunderstanding of English terms.

And as mentioned, the countless metal references are great. 'Dimmmu Burger' is my favorite. Or the 'Gulf of Danzig'.

Plus, anyone's gotta love the senseless violence and constant death. BEST DEATH EVER: when the top soldier guy falls on Murderface's codpiece!!!

And also, who doesn't love Dr. Rockzo! I do that imitation so often it's crazy, usually while sliding into the room. "IM DOCTOR ROCKZO! THE ROCKNROLL CLOWN!!! I DO COCAINE!!!" gold 'seriously man... a lotta cocaine'

The manager guy is prolly my favorite character in the whole show. He's always so calm and cool and totally badass. You know he can work through any situation.

Now the big question. Who is the leader of the order of good guys? As you know, he totally
strung the pope's guts through his eyes, and aparently spared the general for some reason.
So who do you think he is? The popular theory among my family is that he is in fact
Satan himself.

I hadn't thought that was the devil himself, just a spokesperson or something. He could have been the blues devil or something of the sort, who knows. I do know that the scene with him was hilarious. "and... you get.. a five dollar giftcard for hot topic..." XD

No one has posted in this thread for exactly seven months? Really? Really?

Well, Metalocalypse is awesome. It's flipping metal for goodness sake. It's a hidden gem in my towm. The drummer in my friend's band loved to talk about that Dr. Rockzo. Cocaine... priceless.

As for me my favorite character is William Murderface, why? He's psychotic, he has a lisp, and he is Dethklok's bassist. Something we have in common.
The bassist part!
And he can play with his dick. Who can honestly do that? Huh, who?

The first episode was cool. Duncan Hills Cofee is still stuck in my head. Bluesklok is one of my favorite episodes. Mutilating hippies.. love it.
Just a heads up, about mid September, A Dethklok CD will be coming out.

Oh hell yeah.
I'm looking forward to that. There's going to be extended versions of their songs, plus "Metalocalypse" is airing it's new season next month too.

Because of DETHKLOK, I have a new way of expressing distaste for music I don't like.
For example, a class mate of mine she likes (shudder) Britney Spears. So when she said she likes her, I said. "Britney Spears? That's not METAL."

Dethklok's music is surprisingly good.

But there are a few things that piss me off about the show/music, and none of these things have anything at all to do with the show and music itself, rather the people who watch it and listen to it.

Seeing as the show was marketed extensively in Hot Topics the world over, it's fanbase got increasingly annoying and ignorant. Most of the viewers of Metalocalypse completely miss a good 50% to 75% of the jokes in each episode because they don't know anything about actual metal. There are so many subtle references to the metal world that make the show quite hilarious (I was in hysterics over the Mr. Grishnackh character, which I'll bet most - if not all - of you didn't get), but the entire mallcore community just laughs at the violence and thinks that Dr. Rockzo is the best part of the entire series.

Also, most people who buy the Metalocalypse CD would never, EVER listen to music that sounded like that were it not for the show, and will still refuse to listen to real metal after purchasing it.

Just my two cents.

Does it help that they are one of the better Death Metal bands out there? lol. Seriously, I'm not much of a deeath metal fan and honestly, that was represented in that there were a few songs on the album that I thought were really "meh". I suppose I'm better than your average viewer, though?

I catch some jokes, not all. Stuff like Gulf of Danzig and Dimmu Burger to name a few I remember.

Some of my favorite Dethklok songs aren't even mentioned on this thread Where's "Crush my Battle Opponent's Balls"? and "Sewn Back Together Wrong"? Maybe it's just me....but I am personally tired of hearing Thunderhorse. Because where I live, it's the most played song on GH2. Everyone's like "Hey it's that song from that show on Adult Swim!" and I'm like "Yeah that's what you said the first 50 times, let's play it for the 80,000 time!"

Metalocalypse, while most people clue in on the squalls of violence and foul language fail to understand the true metal inspired themes and references in the show. As Jake pointed out, I bet none of you got the Grishnackh character reference unless you were a death metal fan (or a Lord of the Rings fan). It's like watching other comedy shows, unless you get the references, you won't get the show's value in it's entireity.

And as far as Death Metal goes, I'm not a huge fan, but there are some decent bands that I listen to. Dethklok is just a good virtual band and they have a good sound, regardless of whether they are on a TV show or not.

Did it now? Let's ask wikipedia...
Varg Vikernes IPA: [varg 'vi:keɳes], born Kristian Vikernes on February 11, 1973, outside of Bergen, Norway, is a black metal musician. Known during the early days of Norwegian black metal by the pen name Count Grishnackh (a reference to an Orc chieftain in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings), Vikernes conceived the one-man music project Burzum, and later became a prominent voice for the heathen Odalist ideology.

Vikernes is currently serving a 21 year sentence for the 1993 murder of Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth of Mayhem. He is seeking parole in April 2008 after having been denied in 2006. Additionally, following a conspiracy of church arsons in Northern Europe, filmmaker Sam Dunn (Metal: A Headbanger's Journey) has described Vikernes as "the most notorious metal musician of all time"[1].
Trust me, I got the joke.;)
Is there a difference between black metal and death metal? Not in my opinion...but I digress. I got the joke, maybe I just used the wrong terminology when describing it.
Yeah, there's no difference at all... besides the fact that they're entirely and completely different on nearly every single fundamental level. In fact, black and death metal are almost opposites on the metal spectrum. You're actively proving the point I was making when expressing my problem with Metalocalypse and it's viewers.

And your Wikipedia reference did nothing for you... the joke still had nothing in the slightest to do with death metal or Lord of the Rings. :animesigh

Yeah, Hot topic ruins many a metal thing.

I had a long discussion about Metalocalyse with a buddy of mine a couple of weeks ago, and we basically came to the same conclusion: It's a mainstream show. It's meant for mainstream kids who pillage Hot Topic with their parent's money and would otherwise spend that same money on a HIM 'heartagram' hoodie.

The references to true metal culture are, however, appreciated. It gives it that extra value for people who can get it. But aside of those few, things like Grishnackh or Burzum are just funny-sounding names.

And the differences in black and death metal are astounding. Not only the music and themes, but also in the culture. You have some superficial melding of the two more recently, but when that happens, a lot of peculiarities and particulars of the individual genres are lost in translation. Very few can pull of either genre right (though not for lack of trying), and even fewer have the vision to melt the two togther in a way that will hold any real merit.

Much of heavy metal is presentation. Too much, I think. And the further you stand away in terms of interest, the less and less detail you can see. So, if you openly admit you have little interest, it's better on your part not to argue details with those that do.
