The band of travellers had spent a mere few hours in the confines of the warm inn, pints of ale in their hands washing down a good meal. They did a lot of talking, a lot of deciding, but before the sun had finally caressed the horizon with it's golden touch they were already on the road. The Phoenix Heart indeed seemed a prize that they should aim for, and the fact that a cloaked man had appeared to them all was surely a good omen.

Halbereth always kept the rear as they travelled, despite his fellows abilities he just felt safer if he was the one on rear guard. They seemed to accept this and left him to it, knowing he didn't feel comfortable travelling and talking and generally not concentrating on the matter at hand.

They had reached the castle with little trouble, just over a day's walking from when they had set off from the village. Adrian had insisted they pushed forward when forward was a possible direction, as the last thing they needed was to be held back now when other adventurers were heading for the same target.

The castle stood as an ominous silhouette in Halbereth's opinion, and he tugged his broadsword free from its holster to keep it loosely at his side. He was not one to be unnerved and twitchy, merely prepared.

They started toward the castle with frightening ease, and Halbereth couldn't help but turn to keep his eyes on the road behind. He would not put it past such a cunning and desperate sorceress to use tricks.

However, he was assured quickly that his attention was required elsewhere. An alarmed shout from Sunny drew his attention to the sky, following her extended hand to a spot of thick blackness, swirling and cawing and flapping with a sound that shouldn't be so solid and grating on one?s ears. Halbereth shuddered and slipped his right foot back, crouching lower in a powerful stance as one of the things made a swoop directly for the group.

He knew any one of them could have easily taken the creature (he now saw it for a gargoyle--how typical) out of the air it had the arrogance to cut through, but while he was loyal he was also more trusting in himself.

He leapt from the position with a grunt of exertion, his sword coming down with crashing force only to bounce off the creatures hideous skull and rebound, throwing Halbereth off balance.

He cursed and spit out of the corner of his mouth, his hands vibrating as his sword shook, insulted that it had to come into contact with such evil. The creature let out a primal howl, and though Halbereth spotted a chink between its eyes where some stone was still crumbling, it was far from injured.

Halbereth, indeed, had to wonder how one would manage to injure a creature hewn from stone.

Bethany tuned her companions out concentrating on her spell. Once she started she wouldn?t need to concentrate, but to get started it always took a moment to focus her energy and to draw on any outside force that she could use. There wasn?t much that wasn?t already tainted, but there was just a tiny bit of clean magic in the area and she quickly drew it in, changing it, keying it to her touch. Then she began. Targeting some of the Gargoyles that were to the right of them, freezing one after another. She smiled in triumph as they fell to the ground shattering upon impact.

It had worked! Just like she thought it would, Bethany prepared to target more of them on the other side of the castle when movement caught her eye. She gasped in horror as the smaller pieces of stone from those she had shattered began to move. Blurring in a manner that made her sick just to look at it. Then moments later they became new Gargoyles, smaller ones, but Gargoyles just the same.

?That?s cheating!? She protested, even as she immediately froze them as well only for the same thing to happen again creating even more Gargoyles, though the ones she had broken apart were now the size of small cats. As if sensing who had done it to them, they began to head for the mercenaries, shrieking.

?Damn!? Kathy swore as she grabbed Bethany and pulled her back into the trees. ?Get ready everyone, here they come!? She pulled her swords out taking a guarded stance.

?You were suppose to distract them, not bring them to us!? Alexandra protested.

?It?s not my fault! That should have worked!? Bethany cried, even as she froze more of them, resulting in smaller Gargoyles as they fell, broke apart and continued coming.

?Would you stop making more of them?? Sergei pleaded as he pulled his sword free, chanting under his breath as he worked his own small magic. His blade taking on the appearance of being made of ice as he stabbed the first of the smaller Gargoyles that swarmed them.

Bethany ignored Sergei as she continued to make them even smaller, thinking that surely a smaller Gargoyle would be easier to deal with than one that could tear you in half with a single blow. A thought that was confirmed a moment later when the mercenaries realized that the smallest ones could be killed with a simple blade, where those that were still larger the blade merely bounced off, unless it was Sergei?s blade.

Moments later they had dealt with all of the smaller Gargoyles and they breathed a sigh of relief. Until the other Gargoyles, who had been confused by what was happening began to wander over in the direction of where all the noise was.

?Uh oh.? Bethany cringed. ?Even if I freeze all of them and make them smaller, that?s way too many!?

?Fall back!? Kathy cried, but it was too late. With a horrible shriek hundreds of them dived towards the mercenaries. ?Use your new spell Beth!?

?Are you nuts Captain?? Alexandra and Sergei protested in unison.

?We don?t have a choice! Do it!?

Once again Bethany began to prepare for her spell, trying to tune out the horrible shrieking, trying to ignore how quickly they were coming. If she didn?t get the spell cast in time, they would be ripped to shreds!

Kathy, Sergei and Alexandra stood weapons drawn in a protective circle around Bethany. Waiting for her magic to work hoping it would be in time as they could not outrun the flying monstrosities. Then out of nowhere a huge icicle came flying down from the sky, skewing several Gargoyles on the way down. Landing with a sicking thud, pinning them to the ground as the massive column of ice sank into the ground.

Everyone paused, even the Gargoyles who hovered as they looked around, wondering just what had happened until dozens more began to rain from the sky where the mercenaries were located. One of them landing right where Bethany and the others had been standing.

?Move it everyone!? Kathy ordered even as she dodged another one of the lethal icicles. ?Our only hope is to get to the gate.? She grabbed Bethany by the arm and started running. ?Keep those icicles coming!? She ordered as they made a run for it.

OOC: Oh yeah, before I forget, here are me and Shy's appearances her in this RP or unless Shy wants to change his character later.

Tiana and Shy.

I have more of a tanned skin and brown hair, if you get what I mean. ;]

?Getttttt ooouuuuttttt?? The best grumbled under it?s breath as it lunged its sharp black claws towards Tiana?s chest, causing her to dodge the blow at the very last second. As she rolled over to the side in the clinging mud, the silver earrings on her cat ears jingled, causing the monster to quickly find the route she had gone to and lunging at her side once again.

?Dammit!? she gasped loudly as she brought her Keyblade up to her face to dodge the blow, her strength blocking the monster?s claws while her arm was shaking with force. She looked behind it and spotted Shy throwing his darts at it?s back, but failing miserably and only bouncing off in other directions. ?Shy! Don?t you damn well know that those things don?t work on this beast already?!?

?Hey, I?m doing the best I can! What else do you want me to do?!? Shy yelled back, anger and stress ridden on his voice. ?I can?t do any magic and I don?t have anything else to throw at it unless you want me to throw some rocks at it or something!?

Tiana quickly thought for a brief moment, then looked at her glowing Keyblade. Her eyes then widened in a drastic manner, as if a light-bulb had just turned on in her mind. ?Aha! That?s it! Quickly, Shy!? she yelled and pointed her free hand at a boulder, ?throw that boulder at it and hurry!?

Shy gave a confused look, as if saying, ?Wha? Are you for real??

?Don?t give me that look and throw the damn rock at this thing already!?

?Okay, okay!? Shy yelled annoyingly as he headed for the boulder on the ground, ?just don?t blame me if your stupid idea doesn?t work.? With a grunt escaping from his lips and a heave from his strong arms, he lifted it up off the ground and slowly but strongly threw the stone at the back of the beast?s head, only to bounce off of it and causing the monster to turn around towards Shy with a nasty growl from his drooling mouth.

?Umm? uh,? Shy stuttered, pointing all fingers towards Tiana. ?It wasn?t my idea, it was all hers. I think you?re the best, Mr. Beasty Weasty, yes you are??

Before the beast could open its mouth for a Shy treat, Tiana quickly pointed her glowing Keyblade before the beast and yelled, ?Blizzaga!? Streaming from the tip of the Key, snowflakes and cold winds stormed before the monster and wrapped around him with its chilly atmosphere. With its final roar of plea, the beast quickly froze into a thick block of ice, chilling it from the bone to the outside.

Staring at it for awhile, Shy slowly walked up to it and started poking it with a stick, getting a final touch of seeing that it truly was frozen solid. ?Are you sure this thing won?t break out any sec-?

?ROARRR!!!?

?KYYAAHHHAGH!? Shy yelled at the top of his lungs as he fell backwards, quickly skittering behind a nearby tree- trunk and hiding as his whole body shivered in fear.

?Kya ha ha ha ha! I can?t believe you fell for that one, Shy!? Tiana spoke through her hearty laughter, slowly walking towards him from behind the frozen monster, her Keyblade slung over her shoulder. She stared at him for awhile with a big grin on her face, a sign telling him that it was only a joke out of her weird good- nature.

Making an angry yet embarrassed face at her, he slowly stood up and quickly walked over to her. ?You know, you really suck at knowing what?s a good time to pull a fast one like that,? he growled as he lightly punched at her shoulder, ?you don?t know what else could be lurking in this creepy forest!?

?Oh please, don?t tell me that you peed your pants,? Tiana teased, her tongue pointed in his direction.

?Whatever! I am n- oh crap.?

?What is it??

?Well, you know how I said that anything else could be lurking in this creepy forest??

?Yeah, so? Don?t tell me you?re trying to scare me, because you know damn well that?s never going to work.?

?Umm?? Shy muttered under his breath and pointed in the west direction where the castle was. Tiana quickly turned around and looked up into the air where he was pointing, her eyes turning into an annoyed yet ready look. Stone gargoyles where flying in the air towards them? flying in fast and looking vicious as hell.

?Damn,? Tiana gritted under her teeth as she tightened her grip on her weapon, ?Obsidian Gargoyles? and they?re coming in fast.? After thinking for a moment, she tightened the fabric that was around her waist and started running in the direction the gargoyles were coming from, already knowing that Morgwyn was getting ready for them and others who were trying to take back the Phoenix Heart.

?Wait, Tiana!? Shy yelled as he quickly followed her, not know what recklessness she was thinking about this time. ?Stoned gargoyles aren?t easily defeated from any normal attacks, duh! You can?t just barge into them and think that just by swinging your Keyblade that you?ll defeat them!?

?I know that, I?m not stupid!? she yelled as she kept running, the demons already close at hand. ?Don?t do anything, just stay right behind me and dodge when I tell you to, alright?!?

?What?! Are you crazy?! I can hel-?

?Shy! Just do the hell what I ask you, dammit!?

Without another word, Shy clamped his mouth shut and nodded, still angry that he was told to sit and stay like a dog, but past experiences let him know that she was worthy to be depended on.

As they ran onward towards the castle, the gargoyles suddenly flew low enough to get to the adventurers level, their stone mouths open and demon- like shrieks could be heard throughout the entire forest.

Four were in Tiana?s eye- level, already prepared to attack her on sight. When they were in her reach, she grinned and sweated a bit, then pointed her glowing Keyblade at them and yelled, ?Stopga!? at the demons. As her spell predicted, the stone gargoyles ceased to move anymore and stayed in their same position, but now falling in her direction. With one swing of her Keyblade, she had chopped them all in half and their pieces flying all over the forest, crashing into things.

Shy?s eyes were wide open and his mouth agape at the amazing strength that she had in one blow. ?What the? I didn?t know you could do that!?

Tiana looked behind her and gave him big thumbs- up, winking. ?A good magician never reveals her secrets until the very last second!?

?That?s stupid! And besides!? Shy yelled as they continued onward, looking at the horde of gargoyles and how far they actually were from Morgwyn?s castle, ?there are too many of them? you don?t have enough strength in you to do all that and more before we get to the castle!?

?Have faith, my friend,? she replied, still looking onward and getting ready to beat down some more gargoyles, ?believe me, I will get us safely there. And I also have you to come up with another plan, right??

?You?re stupid as always,? he grunted as he looked to the side, a laugh escaping from his lips.

?Isn?t the courageous hero always that way?? Tiana laughed as she jumped upward to fight the next enemies.

They continued onward with her plan of fighting the gargoyles and headed towards the castle. More were probably coming, and Tiana would continue on with her plan of action unless she or Shy came up with another good plan.

"Dwight?" Darren screamed towards the dark pit. He wasn't sure how deep it was or even if his brother could hear him, but he had to do something. "Dwight, are you alright?"

All seemed lost. His brother was at the bottom of a pit that could go down forever and Darren was stuck in this blood-sucking vampire tree. Suddenly, one of the branches from the tree rose to his left and very large, hollow, thorns protruded from it's branch! They were obviously used to suck the blood from its victims.

"DWIGHT, DWIGHT, DWIGHT!!!" He screamed. That's all Darren could do; he couldn't move his arms or legs, and all of his weapons and magical items were at the pit with his brother. Darren swore that the gods cursed him with such and idiot brother, especially for his life to rest in Dwight's hands.

"Stop 'yer whining like a little pansy! I'm fine. How do I get out of here?" Dwight's annoying yet releiving voice echoed out of pit. Darren didn't wonder if Dwight had been consious the whole time and simply chose not to answer him.

"I think we have a bigger issue right now considering these trees are growing fangs! HELP ME!!!"

"Well what do you want me to do? It's too dark to seem my weapons and even if I could, it wouldn't help me down here!" He replied back. His voice sounded somewhat shocked at the comment about the fangs, but he managed to keep his cool.

"I don't know, what can you see?" Darren was screaming frantically watching the blood-sucking thorns get larger and larger. It seemed to be the size of his head now and it was still growing.

"Only your stupid books and that dumb bag full of magical fairy dust or whatever it is you put in it." Dwight loved mocking Darren.

The bag wasn't filled with fairy dust, or at least, not all of it was filled with fairy dust. The bag contained magical items from all over the country and many of them could possibly get them out of this mess.

"Open the bag and tell me what you see?" The thorns were now to about the length of his entire calf!

It took Dwight a while to answer. It was as though he was taking his time. "Not much. There's a bottle labeled 'E.L.', a wierd looking dagger with flames, your fairy dust, a bag full of pearls, and a rock... Why do you have a rock?"

That's when it hit him. The rock! The rock could work! "Dwight, this is going to sound crazy, but I want you to throw the stone up here?"

"I hardly think this is the time, brother," he said like he knew what he was talking about, (which he didn't), "What am I supposed to do? Hit the tree really hard? The tree thorns had finally reached its full length. It was getting ready to literally suck the life right out of Darren.

"JUST HURRY UP AND THROW IT!"
A few seconds later, the petrification stone came soaring out of the black pit and landed on the ground just a few feet from the tree's trunk. It began glowing a brilliant rose red.

The tree flinched. The restraints around Darren's body loosened and the tree backed up to its original position, as did all of the other moaning trees. Suddenly, the vines retracted and Darren fell into the pit where Dwight was waiting to let him fall on his face.

"So, do you mind telling me what just happened?" Dwight asked, completely in awe that a simple stone had just saved a life.

"It's a petrification stone. It's used to temporarily freeze cursed beings for about 10 minutes. Who would have thought that the entire red forest was cursed? I mean seriously, I've never heard of a cursed forest. Inanimate objects and people, yes. But trees? It's amazing."

"Yes yes, that's fascinating," Dwight's sarcasm cutting through Darren's words like nails on a chalkboard, "But what would have happened if the forest wouldn't have been cursed?"

"Well I suppose I wouldn't be standing here before you." he replied

"Let me get this straight: You risked your life for a hunch?"

"Aye." Was all Darren said.

"That's great to know." Dwight was speaking with sarcasm again.

"Don't worry. If it came down to it, I would risk your life for a hunch as well."

"I know. That's the part that scares me. So how do we get out of here?" He asked picking up the weapons and bags that he could find.

"Well I guess we follow the tunnel." Darren replied as he began walking down the pitch black pathway.

"That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard. There could be all kinds of things down here." He scoffed, but nonetheless caught up to walk with Darren. In truth, Dwight was probably thinking the same thing, but he just like to contradict him and cause problems.

After several miles of walking, only talking to argue, the Herother brothers finally came to an end. At first, Dwight cursed Darren because it seemed like a dead end, but upon further inspeciton there was a door that was just small enough for a dwarf and the two brothers were able to fit through it if they crawled on their bellies. The tunnel emerged at the edge of the forest. Strangely enough, all the trees had already regained their red leaves. Darren wondered if it wasn't because the forest had found a victim.

"Looks like we're here! That wasn't so hard." Dwight said moving his fists to his hips and puffing up his chest.

"How can you tell?"

"Well there's a big castle, I'm pretty sure we're here."

Dwight was right, the castle was huge... And too obvious for anyone except Darren to miss. It was littered with a sheet of ice. and several large bodies of ice. Something that Dwight could only describe as glaciers. It seemed like they weren't the first ones to get there.

"At least whoever got here first, already took care of whatever kind of beast was lingering." Dwight continued, "And look. How nice, they left the gate open for us."

The two brothers headed for the open gate to the castle happy, for once, that they got lucky by not being ahead...

"It looks like this won't be so hard, maybe whoever is ahead will weaking Morgwyn for us as well." Dwight finished with that same bravado he alwasy emitted

"What makes you think that the people before us won't actually get the pheonix heart?"

"Are you kidding me," he slapped Darren on the back of the head, "This job can only be accomplished by the legendary heroes for hire. The Herother Brothers!"

Just then, a quiet rustling noise was taking place. Dwight didn't seem to notice it, but Darren had stopped walking all togther. As the sound increased, Darren noticed little bits and pieces of flying gargoyles hovering above the ground. They were emerging from the glaciers and pulling themselves off of the many ice spears that littered the ground. By the time the noise had reached a lound screech, there were at least 50 of the things in a thousand different sizes.

"I don't think those gargoyles know that part." Darren tapped Dwight on the shoulder. The Gargoyles were still digging themselves out of the rubble; their numbers were around 80 now.

"Well those are cursed right? Can't you just use that dumb rock again?"

"Well I could have tried, if I hadn't dropped it in the red forest."

"Shit. Looks like we'll have to do this my way, not that I'm opposed." Dwight smiled as he pulled his large sword out of his back and readied himself for battle. Darren did the same.

Sergei followed Kathy?s orders and began to proceed towards the gate, dodging the icicles that rained from the sky, slicing the Gargoyles that still attempted to rend them to shreds. But when some of the icicles hit a few with glancing blows on their way down and knocked some of them into other Gargoyles, to his surprise they immediately started fighting among themselves. Snarling and gnashing; tearing huge chunks out of each other. All it would take was a single hit, if they could injure other Gargoyles, whose thick think skins of stone were more than a simple blade could handle, they would tear though flesh and blood with frightening ease.

Somehow he doubted they would get lucky like they had with the trees that had attacked them. Shortly after they had entered the forest the trees had come after them, but then for some unknown reason the trees had moved back to their original position and stopped. Giving them plenty of time to get out of the area. If only what ever stopped the trees would stop the Gargoyles. Sergei thought. But as the insane dash for the castle gate continued nothing happened. Not that he had expected it to.

He started running faster, overtaking the Captain and Bethany. Alexandra, with her lighter frame and agile speed had quickly slipped ahead, aiming for the gate so she could get it open for when they got there. But her quicker speed was attracting too much attention as a number of the Gargoyles were diving directly for her.

?Look out Alexandra!? Sergei screamed as one dove for her unprotected back.

Somehow, over the shrieking and sounds of battle from those Gargoyles who were fighting among themselves, she heard, dodging to the right just in time as the Gargoyle plowed into the ground where she had just been. Seconds later, it was skewered by one of the icicles. It tried to get up but Sergei finished it off with a swift blow, taking its head off.

He moved to help Alexandra who was getting back up but was struck a glancing blow as one of the icicles landed just behind him, the force knocking him off his feet to land hard on his stomach. His blade, knocked out of his hands by the impact, bounced across the ground and came to a rest about ten feet in front of him.

?Damn!? Sergei swore as he got up and dove for his blade at the same time several of the Gargoyles dove for him. I?m not going to make it! He thought. But just then the Captain and Bethany caught up with him driving them off just long enough for him to recover his blade.

?We?d better hurry,? Bethany said, slightly out of breath. ?The spell won?t last much longer.?

Sergei shot her an annoyed glance. ?If we live though this how about you explain to me just how the hell you thought a spell like this would be useful.?

?Well you see?? Bethany started to explain.

?Not now,? Kathy ordered. ?Alex is at the gate.?

Sergei nodded and continued running for the gate with Bethany and Kathy. Just as Bethany had said, the icicles were becoming less frequent and before long the Gargoyles would figure that out and stop fighting among themselves. When they do, he thought as he sliced through another Gargoyle that dove for them. They?ll rush us and it will be over.

Then as the gate finally opened from the other side and they quickly slipped inside, Bethany turned back and cast an illusion of the team in the middle of the ice and fallen Gargoyles.

?What are you doing?? Alexandra asked her. Tugging on her sleeve in an attempt to get her away from the still partially open gate.

A moment later a final burst of icicles rained from the sky where the Gargoyles and the illusion were, burying them.

Bethany sagged with exhaustion, ?Making sure they think we?re dead.? She finally answered as she started to collapse.

Sergei, who had already sheathed his blade, quickly caught her. Picking her up and carrying her a ways in before setting her down on a small chair next to a table that was obviously meant for who ever would normally be maintaining the gate.

Bethany smiled warmly at him. ?Thanks.?

Sergei turned to the Captain. ?Now what??

Kathy looked at Bethany who was sagging in the chair, clearly exhausted. ?Lets take a moment to rest before we continue.? She turned to Alexandra who grinned and skipped off before the Captain could ask her to take a quick look around. ?As soon as Alex gets back we?ll get going.?

Sergei pulled up another chair and took a seat himself. Hopefully getting to Morgwyn would be easier now that they were inside, but he doubted it. At least they had gotten into the castle. But still, he couldn't help but feel uneasy. Somehow he doubted that the Gargoyles were Morgwyn's only line of defense.
However, it proved more difficult to just swing your weapons at them. Either the creatures would split into more gargoyles or the swords wouldn't even penetrate their stone casing in the first place. Dwight and Darren were feeling exhausted and beaten. It wasn't long before they were knocked to the ground from swift blows.

"Got any more great ideas?" Darren grumbled.

"Hey, my plans usually work," Dwight snapped.

"No. Mine do." Darren rolled over to evade a strike from a gargoyle, who smashed into the ground and shattered.

"Then do something, Merlin!" Dwight got hit by another gargoyle, sending him into a pile of stone--what could only have been ruins of past gargoyles. Darren dug through his gear.

"Let me see..." His hands ran across a bag and he pulled it out. "Ah ha!"

"What is it?" Dwight called.

"Fairy dust."

"Oh, wonder. We'll make them sneeze to death."

"Please. It's magic. It'll do something."

"What will it do?" Dwight smacked away another gargoyle the size of a mouse, and scoffed.

"I'm not sure yet. We'll find out." Darren pulled out a handful of dust as Dwight sighed and mumbled. Darren's brother was growing weary of the rubbish this magic was. However, Darren persisted and as a gargoyle dove towards him, he tossed the dust into its stone eyes. It immediately crashed to the ground, face-planting, and skidding through the dirt. It began having what appeared to be a seizure before its stone body started sprouting white feathers. Dwight ran to his brother's side and peered at the oddity before them.

The gargoyle did not stop. It continued to spasm, which worried the other gargoyles. They retracted and hovered in the air in awe. The gargoyle grew larger and larger, its rock anatomy becoming skin and feather. Dwight grumbled as it continued to grow larger than the Herother brothers themselves. "Darren!" Dwight scolded.

"Just wait," Darren said, still captured in the moment. He was absolutely mesmerized. By the time the gargoyle finished its transformation, a large bird the size of a small shack was flailing before them. It took a look at Darren, who stepped backward slightly for security. Dwight readied his blade. Suddenly, the bird shot its beak at Darren. There was no time to react.

Grabbed by the scruff of his shirt, Darren was lifted into the air and tossed onto the soft, feathery neck of the bird. He clung, frightened, but then gradually opened his eyes. He was safe. The bird did not harm him. Peering down, he noticed it was friendly. He waved to Dwight. "Come on!"

"Oh, no," Dwight scoffed. "Not happening. I just got over the bird flu."

"Don't be a chicken."

"That's not a chicken, Darren!" Dwight actually appeared scared.

"Wait... are you saying... you're afraid of birds?"

"No!" Dwight shouted defensively. A crow cawed from above and Dwight nearly jumped out of his skin.

"I wondered why you always made up excuses for being frightened around birds." Darren smiled deviously, taking the moment in.

"Shut your hole, Darren," Dwight growled, pointing his blade at his brother. The bird, sensing danger, moved towards Dwight with a fury. "Ahh! Darren! Call your birdzilla off!"

"Oh, I don't know," Darren snickered.

"Just do it! The Phoenix Heart!" Darren shrugged and did so. The Phoenix Heart was rather important. The bird lifted Dwight onto its neck, who screamed continuously the whole time. Upon being placed down, Dwight clung to the bird's feathers in great fear.

"Feeling alright there, Dwight?"

"Just... let's go."

Darren nodded and looked to the sky. The gargoyles, still slightly dazed, were beginning to get restless. They were at first intimidated by the transformation, but now they were beginning to regain some moxy. Some dove down at the enemies, so Darren took it as a better time than ever to take flight. The bird flapped its enormous wings and they took to the sky, smacking several gargoyles on the way up.

Dwight screamed like a baby.

"Fly us right into the castle, bird," Darren shouted. The bird swung its whole body around and aimed for a tower. What Darren didn't realize is that the bird was still basically as intelligent as it was when it was a gargoyle and they ended up crashing through the tower wall. Dwight screamed like a baby again.

The two brothers lay on the stone floor of one of the castle's rooms, bruised and feeling beaten. Darren stood up and dusted himself off, looking about at the damage. The bird was knocked clean out from ramming the wall with its own noggin. "Way to use your head, you dumb bird," Darren muttered. He walked over to Dwight and shoot him awake. "Wake up, Dwight. We're in."

Dwight cleared his nostrils and looked around. "Damn birds..."

"C'mon," Darren said, slapping his brother. "Let's get going. We have to find the Sorceress." Dwight stood up and rubbed his back.

"Next time we're pulling one of those stunts, let me find my double first."

"Stop complaining, and c'mon!" Darren walked toward a chamber door. "I think this leads to the hallway." Dwight walked over and Darren opened the door. Sure enough, the hallway was on the other side. The two slipped out and made their way through. "Morgwyn has to know we're here."

"You think? I wasn't sure putting a large prehistoric bird through her wall would be a sufficient door bell."

"If she sent the gargoyles, she already knew of us. In fact, those gargoyles looked as if they'd already seen battle recently. Someone else must be here."

"Good," Dwight mumbled. "Let them fight all the bad stuff and we can get the Phoenix Heart. Oh, my aching jewels."

"Shhh," Darren silenced his brother. "I hear someone." The two tip-toed towards a room that was dimly lit. Peering around the corner, they saw some woman looking into a mirror. The reflection of the woman was absolutely beautiful. Darren and Dwight were in awe. Without turning, the woman spoke.

"Herother brothers... so good of you to drop by."

Darren and Dwight, a little shocked, stepped inside. "Sorry to crash the party," Dwight said. "... literally."

Darren elbowed Dwight. "Are you Morgwyn?"

The woman let out a loud cackle and turned. She was even more beautiful than her reflection, which the brothers found to be quite intimidating. "Not quite, my handsome young warriors." She approached them and stroked both their cheeks softly. "Is that why you're here? Or did you come to save me?"

Darren and Dwight were in a trance. "To come save you, baby," Dwight moaned.

Darren woke up and smacked Dwight. "No, we're here for Morgwyn!" The woman frowned and stopped caressing their faces. She walked back to her mirror, gliding across the floor as if she had no legs (the dress made it hard to tell if she did or not).

"In that case, be gone," she said, peering into her mirror again. "She is up the staircase to the left. You can't miss her room."

Darren nodded and Dwight whimpered. "Thank you," Darren said, bowing. He then walked out. Dwight was dragged along. "Okay, Dwight, this is it. Are you ready?"

"Shouldn't we save her, though? Morgwyn obviously has her prisoner!"

"I have a hunch she's all a trick," Darren replied.

"Then why are we trusting her word?"

"We're not," Darren said. "We'll take the right staircase." Dwight was confused by the logic, but didn't argue for once. As Darren made his way upward, Dwight stopped in his tracks. He turned back to the room of the beautiful maiden and decided she too deserved freedom. He peeked into her chambers once more. He saw her smile into the mirror.

"I knew you were the one who was true of heart," she said. She turned to him. Somehow, she was even more beautiful than before. Dwight's heart went aflutter. "I must reward you for your kindness, Sir Knight."

"Oh, please, call me Dwen." Dwight thought for a second; that didn't sound like his name. But he was too mesmerized by her eyes to care.

"Well, Sir Dwen," she said, approaching him. "Let me give you your reward."

Dwight beamed at her curves. "If I said you had a nice body, would you hold it against me?"

She smiled and wrapped her arms around him, dragging him towards the bed. "Just lay back... and it'll all seem like a beautiful dream..."

"Once we get out of the forest's cover we'll be sitting ducks," Shy grumbled as he and Tiana charged through the thick forest brush.

Tiana swung her keyblade furiously, striking down the oncoming gargoyles with an amzing show of skill.

"You doing okay, Tee?"

"Oh, you know... look out!"

Tiana tackled Shy to the ground as a large stone flew past his head. The two crashed against the forest floor, and with a loud 'CRASH!' fell into a deep hole that opened below them. The two plummeted lower and lower into the Earth, eventually crashing into a large pile of hay some thirty feet underground.

Sore from the impact of their fall, Shy struggled to stand. Tiana spoke a few arcane syllables and instantly her keyblade let out a feint glow, lighting the small pit they had fallen into.

"You doing okay, Tee?"

"Great," Tiana said sarcastically as she picked herself up off of the ground, "I'm only disappointed there weren't more gargoyles waiting for us when we reached the bottom of... whatever this is."

The two surveyed the cramped hole around them. Ancient writings were scrawled onto stone walls around them, although both Tiana and Shy had no idea how to translate them.

"If Allam we're here...." Shy sighed.

"If Allam we're here we wouldn't have enough room to stand. What is this place, anyway?"

Shy traced his fingers along the engravings, featuring various monsters and magical symbols.

"It looks like some kind of burial pit."

"Or maybe an ancient monster trap."

"That would make sense," Shy replied, "This whole area is normally the royal hunting grounds..."

The two shared a moment of silence.

"...You know, when an evil sorceress hasn't taken control of the entire kingdom."

"We really need to move to a different kingdom when this whole thing is over."

"Do you think..." Shy begin to question, "Do you think there's even a way out of here?"

Tiana raised her keyblade triumphantly.

"That we can find out pretty easily. This isn't called a keyblade for nothing."

The keyblade began to change colors randomly, a magical light extending from the tip of the weapon and lighting up the ancient stone carvings. Instantly several of the symbols lit up at once, and a hidden stone door slid open behind them.

Shy raised his eyebrown in disbelief.

"That was... convenient."

"Save your sarcasm for when we reach the other side of this tunnel. Nothing is ever as easy as it seems here."

The two Argos began to head down the narrow tunnel, unsure of where it would lead them.
The gargoyles forces The Titans to part from one another as they flew in pursuit of each of the members. Adrian easily out ran them into a nearby forested cluster and tried to use the trees to his advantage to shake them off his trail. As he can he noticed both Sunny and Halbereth partake in futile attempts to harm the stone creatures by conventional means. Adrian, not one to give up on something he hasn't tried himself pulled two daggers out from the back of his belt and leaped up to a large tree trunk infront of him and shot himself off of it toward one of the gargoyles chasing him. He slashed the sides of it, causing just 2 minor sratches in it's surface as the living statue crashed through the tree trunk and merely u-turned itself back toward Adrian.

"Oh Shite, you gotta be kidding me. The scratches, ok...but the tree?" Adrian said aloud as he continued running, this time west of his location.

Two more gargoyles flew toward him, Adrian managed to duck and evade them the first time around but was soon surrounded by the one that had crashed through the tree and another one from the south. Adrian slashed wildly while trying to out-menuver the creatures when suddenly one of his dagger slices clear through the connection of the beast's wing and it's body. The gargoyle lost control of it's flight and crashed into the ground immedietly crumbling into a cloud of dust as if it were brittle like dry clay.

"Well I'll be...you bums seem to be rather fragile afterall without your precious wings." Adrian exclaimed to himself as he ran toward the closest exit of the forest so he can alert the others. A crashing sound and a flare up of smoke led him into what was sure to be Dayne's direction. One of the gargoyles caught up with Adrian slightly but was quickly dispatched as Adrian spun around long enough to hurl two daggers at his pursuer slicing both of it's wings off causing it to crash down just behind his heels, the dust nearly missing his back as it erupted from the ground.

Adrain leaped out of the forest and called out to Sunny and Dayne who were fending off a few gargoyles themselves.

"Heyyy! Go for the wings! Even one of them, they seem to be their vital points if they are severed!" he yelled out. Sunny fiddled around with getting a comfortable swing at one of the gargoyles with her sword. As one came swooping in from her left she measured it up and took it's right wing off causing it to ram wildly into another one turning to dust as the other one just fell to the ground from the impact.

"Dayne, go tell Halbereth. Adrian and I will take care of things and try to clear a path to the bridge." Sunny suggested, as Dayne nodded in agreement.

"All this...you don't think we're the only ones after the Phoenix Heart, do ya Sunny?" Adrian asked almost rhetorically, figuring such defensive measures wouldn't have been prepped for just a single group of adventurers.

"Even if we aren't...I doubt they are having an easier time getting in!" Sunny answered, both Titans hacking away as the onslaught of gargoyles finally seemed to diminish. Sunny and Adrian managed to clear a path and progressed to the large stone bridge over the most to what seemed to be only one of many entrances to the castle. Adrian looked back to see Halbereth easily dispatching the last of the gargoyles with ease once he found out the key to defeating them.

"That guy sleeps with his sword, doesn't he?" Adrian asked, this time fully rhetorically. Sunny let out a slight chuckle as the group met up infront of the castle and proceeded in.

The inside of the castle included winding hallways. At each turn, Adrian and Dayne both swore they heard voices from other parts of the castle, as if travelling on the wind. Halbereth took up the rear as usual, his hand readied on the hilt of his sword.

A final turn took The Titans to a large staircase, wide enough to fit all four in a horizontal line plus more. They ascended up the staircase passing by pyramidal shaped windows, black birds and baby drakes flying in circles around that portion of the castle as if there was some kind of nesting grounds outside.

'I'm sure glad those things aren't fully grown...though I suppose they can't fit through these windows anyway' Adrian thought to himself as they reached the top of the stairs. At the first fight turn, Adrian and Sunny stopped short, brandishing their weapons hastily after coming into close quarters suddenly with two other people, humans they both seemed to be, one male one female. The two were startled by Adrian and Sunny, and vice-versa.

"What is it? Morgwyn's followers?" Halbereth asked cautiously, unsheathing his sword.

"Followers? No, not us...but you did scare the living crap out of us! Thanks for that." the woman said, leaning on the wall infront of a giant door.

"No, you indeed don't seem to be followers. Who are you?" Sunny asked, still a little careful in her stance. One of the other travellers looked over to the other.

"Of course, my name is Tiana...this here is my companion Shy." Tiana spoke, nodding his head to Sunny.

"Yeah? Never heard of you guys, now out of the way. We have some business to tend to." Adrian said, hardly interested in the other adventurers.

"Don't suppose you mean the Phoenix Heart? Because that's precisely what we are here for!" Shy said from behind his partner.

"Yeah well isn't that a shame. Now like I said, kindly move aside." Adrian repeated. Sunny placed her hand on Adrian's shoulder, trying to convince him not to start any unncessary fights.

"These people are not our enemies, Adrian. Don't worry...we'll accomplish what we came for." Sunny assured him.

Before anyone could speak again, a bright pinkish red light emitted from the room they were infront of, along with a subtle yet lasting rumbling sound. Both bands of heroes rushed to the door. Shy, Halbereth, and Adrian struggled to pull the doors open but they were indeed heavier then its apperance suggested. It was then two more figures came from the other end of the hallway, this time a man and a woman.

"I thought I heard voices as we came up those stairs." the woman said, standing there opposite the other seven. "Tell Alexandra and Bethany that it is safe. They don't look like Morgwyn's minions."

It hadn't taken Alexandra long to take a quick look around, but surprisingly the castle seemed to be empty where they were. It didn't fool Bethany though, she could feel dark magic stirring further within the castle. It was unpleasant and had her feeling like she wanted to turn around and flee. Something was about to happen, she could feel it. Bethany sighed and started to get up.

"What are you doing Bethany?" Sergei exclaimed. "You need to rest until Alexandra gets back."

"I'm fine," Bethany protested. "I was able to tap into the remaining clean magic in this area so I can easily do more."

"Sit down Beth." Kathy ordered.

Meekly, she did as she was told. "Yes Captain."

"Well?" Kathy asked as Alexandra came back into the room.

"It's clear Captain, I didn't see anyone or any signs that anything is in this area."

"All right, lets get going then."

The group got up and began to work their way deeper into the castle, as they cautiously made their way through the castle they could still hear the sounds of the Gargoyles out side and other monsters on the prowl, but for what ever reason they seemed to stay away from attempting to crash through the windows to get to the mercenaries.

Then as they approached a staircase where the sound of voices could clearly be heard they stopped. Kathy motioned for the two girls to wait while she and Sergei took a look. At the top of the stairs and just down the hallway was what had to be another group of adventurers there for the prize.

"I thought I heard voices as we came up those stairs." Kathy told Sergei, "Tell Alexandra and Bethany that it is safe. They don't look like Morgwyn's minions."

"We are not," The elf replied. He briefly introduced himself and the others while Sergei called down to the girls to come on up. Then finished the elf, Adrian, asked her a question. "And who are you?"

"We are the group known as the Mercenaries, I am the captain, Kathy. This is Sergei, Alexandra and..."

Bethany interrupted the captain stepping forward. "I'm Bethany. And I'd say you have a problem."

"Oh? And just what would that be?" Sunny asked her.

"That door," Bethany said indicating the one that Shy, Halbereth, and Adrian had been trying to get open. "It's been sealed by magic. No amount of force will open it. I'll need to break the seal."

"Oh really?" Sunny said in a tone indicating she didn't quite believe her.

Kathy stepped forward, "Bethany is quite skilled with magic, if she says it is sealed. It is."

Impatient, Bethany stamped her right foot. "Move," she commanded raising her hands as she began to prepare the spell, walking forward and glaring at the three men until with a shrug they moved slightly to let her through. She placed her hands on the door and then chanted the spell to break the seal.

She winced in pain when the seal broke and the magic within spilled out catching her by surprise and knocking her over. Startling the rest of those who were there as well. Sergei rushed over to help her back up.

"What happened?" The elf Adrian demanded.

Bethany grimaced as Sergei helped her stand back up. "We're too late, Morgwyn has used the Phoenix Heart. She has regained her youth. I was not expecting it the magic inside to be so strong." Bethany turned to Kathy. "I'm sorry Captain, it caught me by surprise."

"Did you break the seal?" Kathy asked.

Bethany nodded.

"Good lets get going then."

"The door is still closed," Sunny pointed out.

"Of course it is!" Bethany said indignantly. "I said I would break the seal not open it."

"Looks like there's nowhere to go but forward." said Kathy. "Someone help me to open up this door." She strode forward and placed both of her hands on the door. The rest of her team moved to her aid, followed by the rest of the group.

"On my count, we pull." Murmurs of consent were heard throughout the group. "1...2..3... Pull!" Kathy commanded, and the ragtag group pulled as hard as they could. For a moment, it seemed like even their combined strength could do nothing to move the doors, but they began to hear a screeching sound, and feel the weight of the door come towards them. "Again!" Kathy cried out, and the group strained under the immense weight of the door, but refused to give up. Finally, with a great groan, the door swung forward, and many had to fall backward to avoid being squished between the heavy door and the stone wall.

The room in front of them was beautiful. It looked to be the main entrance of the castle, it was made of stone, with a high arching ceiling and stained glass where the sun poured through, illuminating the hall. Everyone kept their hands on their weapons, as their eyes swept over the room, searching for even the slightest movement. Bethany was the first to speak.

"I don't sense Morgwyn's presence.. We're safe from her, atleast for now." Sighs of relief were heard from several people.

"We should take this opportunity to explore." said Shy, as he stepped forward into the great hall.

"I agree." replied Halbereth, who's hand didn't leave the hilt of his sword. Alexandra pushed past Shy and Tiana to stand in the room. "Cap'n! We could do just fine by plucking a few of these pretty little items.. Who even needs the reward?" The Titans and the Argos gaped at her in disbelief.

"That's not exactly a noble thing to do..." Adrian began to say, but Alexandra cut him off.

"Spare me. This isn't an issue of noble or not. We're a band of mercenaries, not a band of do-gooders, unlike yourselves." Bethany nodded her head in agreement at Alexandra's words. Kathy shook her head.

"Alex.. this isn't about the reward anymore. Morgwyn is extremely powerful now.. if we don't stop her, we won't be around long enough to spend the money we make from stealing." Sergei stayed silent but gave Alexandra a stern look. She sighed.

"Fine, fine.."

"Shall we get going then?" Sunny said, to break the silence that had descended upon the group. Mumbles of agreement were heard here and there, but the mood had quickly grown somber. "Come on, then." She gestured towards the end of the hall, where a similarly big set of doors to the ones they had just gone though, were. "We may not have much time. Lets get going."

Sunny didn?t know whether to encourage the Mercenaries to take the trinkets and leave or to express how disgusting she found their behavior to be. Until their captain spoke up.

"Alex.. this isn't about the reward anymore. Morgwyn is extremely powerful now.. if we don't stop her, we won't be around long enough to spend the money we make from stealing."

At that moment, her misgivings about competing with the other adventurers for the Phoenix Heart vanished. This woman who lead the group who called themselves the Mercenaries was correct. If they did not stop Morgwyn none of them would be around for anything. Far more than collecting the reward was at stake. Especially if the girl Bethany was correct about Morgwyn having already recovered her youth. Somehow, deep down she felt the girl was telling the truth.

The group continued towards the next set of doors at the end of the hallway, their hands all within easy reach of their weapons. Sunny had her hands on the hilt of her twin daggers, poised to quickly use them if needed. Some of them had their weapons already drawn and ready.

They were almost there when Bethany called out again. Using the same bossy tone she had used when she ordered the others out of her way back at the door to break the seal.

?Wait!? Bethany said. ?I sense powerful magic as well as other people besides the sorceress.? She stopped saying nothing else.

?Well?? Adrian finally asked, ?Aren?t you going to explain what you sense??

Surprisingly she turned red in the face, ?Well you see?? Bethany coughed and turned even redder.

?Come on,? Tiana said, clearly annoyed, ?Out with it already!?

Sunny watched with amusement, as Bethany turned so red in the face that it had to be painful. Then she finally said softly.

?It?s just that the magic is very sexual in nature.? She finally said. ?I mean, can?t you feel it? It?s enough to?to.?

?Beth!? The mercenary captain said with exasperation.

?I?m sorry captain,? she replied. ?It?s just that it?s very powerful and well, dangerous.?

?Can we protect ourselves from it?? Sunny asked her.

Bethany shook her head, ?Not really, though being aware of it makes it easier to fight it.?

?Then lets keep going.? Sunny said. The others nodded cautiously. Soon they would be at the next set of doors. Would Morgwyn be on the other side? It?s time we took care of this Sunny thought.

Hope you had your share of High Fantasy, because it's time for our first big theme swap. I gotta say though, I'd like to see some more activity, especially from a certain unnamed blue team.

Theme Two: Mutant High School Drama

Cheshire High is no ordinary private school. It does have it's own cliques, it's quirky teachers, it's intimidating bullies and it's smelly dormitories. The catch is that all of the people going there - students and faculty alike - possess strange powers that common humans don't. To the outsiders, they are mutants. To themselves, they are heroes.

?Graaah? what the crap does y=2x divided by 4e plus 7 equal?!?

Aizen scratched her head annoyingly with her mechanical pencil, irritated by a certain problem that she couldn?t solve on her Algebra II homework. Her cat ears slightly twitched as the breeze picked up a little, causing her to quickly grasp her papers.

It was already 7: 50 AM and school would start in about ten minutes, Aizen already rushing through all her homework she hadn?t finished yet because of her frequent cat- naps and ultimate laziness. Cheshire High was unique for it?s strict policies and special students, but that still didn?t change the fact that she wasn?t ready for another unique day at school.

?Agh, damn,? she sighed as she looked at her watch, then looking up at the slightly cloudy sky, ?maybe if I listen to my music, I can think straighter.?

Lifting her right hand and digging through her school bag, she then grabbed her iPod?s ear phones and placed them in her ears. After turning it on, she picked her favorite song and pressed Play with her thumb, looking at her paper and thinking harder about how to solve the math problem.

Gosen mairu hashitte iki wo kirashite

I ran 5000 miles, and ran out of breath
With 100 litres of adrenalin, my whole body works

Is coming up to here alright? Till where is it ok?
The trees that paint the streets, appear to be repeating in a cycle

The whiteness that has changed, the weakness that cannot change
I want to believe in myself that is here.

Waving my left and right hands over my head, I cut through the darkness GO!
There?s no lie, I have decided to be ready!
Right from the start the world is expanding!

?Yo, Aizen.?

Aizen slowly opened her brown eyes to reveal a young man with long dark blue hair tied into a ponytail, bright glowing gold eyes and the school?s uniform open to show his white shirt under it. He seemed quite popular around school, what for his good looks and good grades? but something about him attracted her. Not in a crush way, but as if he knew everything about her.

?Hey, Shy,? she replied as she took her earphones out of her cat ears, then standing up and brushing loose grass off of her uniforms skirt. ?What are you doing here? Classes start in about five minutes.?

?Yeah, I know,? he smirked as he slightly lifted his right index finger, causing her books and papers to levitate in the air towards her body. ?I just noticed you sitting her by yourself looking angry as usual, so I decided to see what was up.?

Slightly grabbing her floating school supplies, she grimaced a bit and started walking towards the school building, Shy right behind her. ?Well, I?m kind of stuck on this one math problem,? she replied, still walking with stopping, ?I don?t understand why I don?t get it? maybe it?s because math just sucks in general??

?It isn?t all that hard. I mean, all you have to do is multiply both sides by the demoninator and solve it from there.?

?Uh? excuse me? How did you know what I was learning about in Algebra II class??

?Read your mind, as usual,? he smirked, giving her a thumbs-up.

?Agh, dammit, stop doing that! You creep me out when you know all the answers to my questions like that!? Aizen annoyingly stuck out her tongue at Shy and lightly punched his right arm, making him playfully flinch as if she was actually hurting him.

After laughing for a bit, Shy raised his left arm and pushed his sleeve backward. ?Ah, only a minute left until the tardy bell rings,? he said, quickly hurrying towards the school, ?we can?t be late again? you remember what the principal said last time.?

?He can suck eggs for all I care,? Aizen replied annoyingly, then taking her sweet time looking at the clouds as she licked her hand in a cat- like manner. ?If you don?t want to be late, just say the word and I can freeze time so that we can have a little fun.?

?That?s what you did last time! When your power is over for however long you set your time limit, everything fast- forwards until the time is equally set? causing us trouble again!!?

?Come on, live a little!? Aizen replied, swinging her arm around his shoulder and grinning a big smile. ?It?s not that bad and besides, it?s fun making people do stupid things!?

Shy sighed, knowing that he was losing this battle. ?What made me hang out with someone as bad as you??

??Cause I?m a cool cat, that?s wh-? Aizen gently bumped into someone without realizing it, what with her big mouth open. ?Hey, I?m sorry, I didn?t mean to do that,? she replied, slightly bowing.

?Hey look, the two dorks!?

~*~

OOC: Meh, I just wanted to make sure just in case. =P

Anyway, I changed my character's name to Aizen Nightwillow, her powers are cat- like fighting/manners and being able to stop time. She's a real gutsy gal, not allowing anyone to get in her way and standing up for the weak. Oh, and the song she's listening to is called Shissou, the ending theme to Ouran Host Club... my favorite! :D

Shy, if you want me to change anything on your character, just say so in our thread, 'kay? :]

Oh, and the person can be anyone they want and can make that quote in a friendly or bully manner.

"Wake up," Dwight's voice interruped Darren's slumber. He was having a very nice dream about a girl he liked back when he was 'normal' "Wake up! You're going to be late for class."

At this, Darren jumped up in bed. He couldn't afford to be late once more.

"Why are you always the last to show up for class? Aren't you supposed to be the smart one?" Dwight continued as he gathered his books that were thrown across the room.

"Yes. You remind me every time you ask to cheat off of my work." he retorted. It always did get annoying to have to share the same grades with someone who didn't deserve them.

"What the big deal, it's just a little homework every now and then."

"Try every night." he said, as he pulled on a T-Shirt that looked clean. "Is there time for breakfast, I'm starved."

"You're always hungry. But unfortunately, no. There's no time left. Do you have anything you can take along?" Dwight asked sincerely. He knew that Darren's powers required for him to eat before they would work.

"Yeah, I got some leftover pizza from dinner." he stated lamely as he picked up a couple of slices before wiping his teeth with his finger. It was all he had time to do before leaving the dorm.

"You'd better eat those quick. You know you have field training in the morning." Dwight said as he shut the door behind them and heading off in one direction.

Darren didn't bother to answer because Dwight was right. He needed to scarf down those slices of pizza and hope his power kicked in before training got started. His power was a strange one: It took all of his excess fat and energy that the body didn't need and transfered it into energy. This energy could be clearly seen as 'light' traveling through his veins and collecting at his fingertips. Every time he had something to eat, an intense yellow light would show up and with that light engergy, he could project energy shields or small spikes that protruded from his fingers. The spikes could even be shot at the enemy.

However, all that was based on how much he ate, and Darren doubted that a few slices of pizza would be enough to create anything detrimental in a fight. He really needed to start waking up earlier.

As Darren exited the Cheshire Academy's main entrance, and headed for the shade of the large oak tree where field training began every morning.

"You're late again Mr. Lane," Mr. Turner's telepathic voice rang inside his head. It was calm but loud, meaning that he was mad. "If this were a real mission, all of your teammates would be dead and you would be fighting a one-on-one." The dissappointment in his voice was discernable even though Darren couldn't see Mr. Turner. "Now then prepare yourself for battle."

All of the other students that had field training were setting on the sidelines; they had obviously already been defeated by Mr. Turner. But even as Darren entered the shade of the tree, he didn't see his teacher. It was an ambush, and Darren assumed his readied position, realizing that a couple slices of pizza wasn't enough to even bring a small glow to his fingers. This was going to be a long day.
Upon seperating with Darren, Dwight had also been slightly late for his class. But he wasn't exactly the most exceptual of students. He took his time getting places, often goofed off, and really didn't do a lick of work. Without Darren, he would completely flunk, it would seem. However, his slacker style seemed to catch him quite the reputation around the academy. Over anything, his junky rockstar good looks got him away with most, and if he wasn't hitting on his female classmates, he was probably causing some kind of mischief in the form of a prank or worse. He thought of himself as quite the ladies' man, and it was even worse that the girls humored him by oggling over his laid-back style and charm.

At the moment, class seemed to be the right thing to avoid. Who likes work anyway? Dwight decided he'd knock around the school for a while, passing through the hallways with no real intention of getting anywhere. After winking at a cute girl with fire munipulation powers, he was quite distracted and bumped into another classmate. He was relieved to know her.

"Hey, look, the two dorks," Dwight smirked.

"Hey, Dwight," Shy replied with a simple grin.

"Aizen, likin' the look today," Dwight smirked. "Meeee-ow!" He winked at her and she arched her brow.

"Please, Dwight," she replied sourly.

"Guys off to class?"

"I guess," Shy said, looking to Aizen who just twitched her ears innocently. "Shouldn't you be as well? We're all going to the same class, so I know you should be in there." He then smiled. "But even if that weren't the case, I'd still know in my mind." He tapped his own forehead.

"Yeah... schoolwork... about that..." Dwight looked around. "I have a doctor's note."

"You can't lie to someone with my power," Shy scoffed.

"Stop it," Dwight whimpered. "It's no fun when I can't lie."

"Thank you!" Aizen agreed, as if someone had finally taken her side.

"Whichever, you two," Shy waved a finger. "We need to get to class." Shy started on his way. Dwight and Aizen looked at each other and reluctantly followed. As they entered the school, other classmates who didn't have class 'til a bit later littered the sidewalks and hallways. Dwight often liked this part of the day because he received plenty of attention.

"Hi, Dwight," a group of girls said as they passed by, then looked away giggling girlishly. Aizen twitched her ears in irritation. Dwight just smiled dumbly.

"Are you sure you're not using your powers on them?" she asked Dwight.

"Don't be jealous the ladies love me. I'm like milk--I do the body good." Aizen acted as if the line would make her gag. In truth, Dwight wasn't sure of his power. No one was. The only reason he was even in the school was because there was a faint sign he had a power. But figuring out what it was was the challenge. And because of that, it was crucial he go to some of his classes to better learn about himself. But most rumors indicated that his power was just good looks and charm, and nothing else.

"Hey, Dwight," another girl said as she passed.

"I'm diggin' the new hair," Dwight shouted back to her.

"What new hair?"

"Oh, um... uh..." Dwight turned to Shy. "So what class do we have to go to? It's been a while since I've gone, so I kind have forgotten."

It was finally time, Bethany along with the other adventurer?s pushed open the final door to where the sorceress Morgwyn was situated. Lounging lazily in the plush throne with one of the Herother brothers kneeling next to her clearly under her spell. The other one next to the door cursing his brother colorfully for having been so foolish as to fall for her trap. Time seemed to stand still as the two groups looked at each other warily until Morgwyn?s eyes fell on Bethany. Angrily she stood up, glaring at them.

?You!? She said accusingly, the adventurers looked at each other, unsure as to whom she was addressing, other than Bethany that is.

?You ungrateful little traitor! How dare you show your face here!? Morgwyn cried.

?Nice to see you too Great Grandmother,? Bethany said sarcastically.

?What?? Sergei said in disbelief.

?Everyone has their secrets Serg.? Bethany said. ?Unfortunately mine is this pathetic excuse for a sorceress who abandoned the family to pursue dark magic.?

?A family that was too weak and cowardly to explore true power!? Morgwyn started to glow with a dark energy. ?First I?ll deal with you and your little friends and then the rest of the world shall be mine!?

Without hesitation she immediately launched a powerful wave of magic, intent on destroying all of them with one blow. But Bethany had been expecting it; her spell of protection already prepared and the blow hit her powerful shields. But as they hit she seemed to spiral into darkness. What the?
With a grunt of surprise Bethany found herself tangled in her blankets lying on the floor of her shared bedroom. Sunlight pouring in from the already open window, it took her moment to realize that she was in her dorm room for Cheshire High. Alexandra was staring at her from her position in front of the vanity mirror with a smirk.

?You know Bethany, at this rate you?re going to be late for class. Honestly? How do you manage to sleep through the alarm? Kathy and I have been up for over half an hour.?

Bethany glared at her a bit, ?Probably the same way you somehow manage to sleep through class.? She said a bit smartly.

?Well duh! Class is boring!? Alexandra said as if it should have been obvious.

Carefully Bethany got untangled from her blankets, looking over at Kathy who smiled at her before going back to getting ready for class. She tossed the blanket back on her bed and grabbed some clothes to get changed into. Her thoughts still on the strange dream, every night for some time she kept dreaming about a place called the Aria Kingdom and a treasure called the Phoenix Heart that had been stolen by an evil Sorceress Morgwyn.

?Don?t tell me that you?re still having that same wacky dream,? Alexandra asked her.

Startled Bethany looked up from changing. How had she known? Unlike that strange kid Shy she couldn?t read other?s minds. Or could she?

?Don?t look so surprised Bethany,? she said with a wink. ?You always have this bewildered look when you?ve had one of those dreams.?

?I can?t help it, I don?t even know why I keep having them. But more importantly we finally met the evil Sorceress Morgwyn!? She started to continue but Kathy cut her off.

?You?ll have to tell us later, if you don?t hurry you?ll be late, again.?

?All right, if only because Sergei gets so annoyed when we make him late too.? She giggled. ?I keep telling him that it?s his own fault for insisting on walking with us to class each morning.?

?Who knows?? Alexandra said as she poked Bethany, ?Perhaps he has a crush on you.?

Bethany opened her mouth to protest only to be cut off by Kathy again.

?Honestly, you two. Can?t you save it for later?? She deliberately walked between the two of them breaking them up. ?I for one have no intention of being late.? She opened the door and left.

Bethany looked at the clock and groaned, ?Why can?t they have classes start at a more reasonable hour? I hate getting up early.? She went back to getting dressed and grabbing her stuff. Alexandra joined her as they went down to met Sergei who as always, was patiently waiting for them.

Name: Cody Kendrick
Age: 17 (Junior)
Appearence: 5'9, light and feathery dirty blond hair ending above his ears. An average build with some muscular physique, ice blue eyes and is always wearing his beige leather jacket over a white t-shirt.
Power: Cody has the ability to dematerialize solid matter with many common mineral and metallic make ups. Through touch, Cody can break down objects such as desks, walls, cars, etc and the effect of which makes it appear as if it turns into sand. After the item's break down, Cody can recompose the remnants into another object using only the same make up of the former item. Which means if he breaks down a sheet of metal, he can recompose them into tiny spears made from the same metal. The size and type of item is limited by the size and type of item that has been dematerialized.
Personality: An admired student on campus for his athletic skill and cool demeanor, he can be boastful at times but ultimatley keeps a level head on himself, even in sticky situations. He isn't perfect in the academic department, getting mostly high Cs and Bs with the occaisional A here and there, though most of the time it's due to a pre-occupation of some sort.

* * * * *

Cody leaned up against the surrounding gate of the school grounds, he lingered around the field area as usual enjoying the breeze through his hair and watching some other students in their gym classes run around and play soccer or simply job around the track. Cody liked admiring the good looking girls in their gym uniforms, though unlike the atmosphere in any normal school...the degree to which Cody did not know these girls was on a different level. Many of the students of Cheshire High were not fully or expertly aware of their own unique abilities let alone them being public knowledge to their peers. Some were more obvious then others, but there was quite a number of students who actually didn't know themselves let alone what their powers were quite yet. Needless to say, it was a school for those who needed the comfort and support for who they were...it was more like a home because everyone felt equally welcome...no matter who they were.

Cody let out a sigh and pushed himself off the fence, as the gaze of a certain pretty headhead girl caught his eye while she ran by. Cody stood a bit confused at first but she giggled a bit as she ran passed him. Her eyes were a radiant red color, definitly abnormal for a human being...but that was the beauty of this community. Yes, that's exactly what it was...a community. They may not be able to fully figure everything out about themselves yet, but atleast they don't have to be alone in doing so.

Cody began walking off the field area until he heard his name casually called by another student leaning on the wall of the school. He glanced over to see Zeke giving him a single directioned wave/salute mixture while he gave a bit of a smirk.

"Zeke, hows it going bro?" Cody asked, stopping infront of him.

"I didn't know today was your day off." Zeke replied. Cody subtly laughed to himself for about half a second and turned his head away.

"It isn't...there's just too much on my mind right now to go to class. Professor Van will understand...it isn't like I don't do my assignments." Cody said, using that as his rationalization.

"You checking out the girls on the track?" Zeke asked, though it might as well have been rhetoric. Cody didn't answer with words, nor did he with body language, silence was the clear indicator and it was all that was ever usually needed in a situation like that.

"No big deal really...none of them are THAT good looking. It just goes along with what's been going on in my mind I guess." Cody replied. He and Zeke began walking off at the same time, headed for the cafeteria to get some good since they were both shrugging off classes for the day.

"You know who is kind of cute though..." Cody began. Zeke, glanced over slightly curious that Cody was actually about to pinpoint someone specific he fancied. "That Bethany chick, I see her around all the time and we have a couple of classes together. She's different from all the other girls I see around here." he continued.

Zeke just smiled and nodded as they continued discussing such things, switching subjects every so often.

Kathy had intended to go to classes, she really had but once she had cheerfully said good morning to Sergei who was waiting outside the dorm she ended up going off in another direction all together. Finding a secluded spot to simply sit down and relax. It wasn't like the world was going to come to an end if she didn't show up after all and besides, she hated being inside when it was nice out.

She leaned back against the tree she was sitting under and then nearly jumped out of her skin when Sergei sat down next to her. "Don't sneak up on me like that Serg!"

Sergei just shrugged, "I didn't mean to. I was just wondering why you were cutting class."

Kathy sighed, "Oh I dunno. I just didn't feel like going today."

"Me neither," Sergei declared.

And then as they often did they just sat there, silently taking everything in. Taking a brief moment to not have a care in the world.

"Ya know," Sergei said. "Sometimes I wish we didn't have to be here."

"I thought you liked it here." Kathy replied, surprised.

"True," Sergei said. "But don't you ever wish you were just a normal teenager?"

"Not really."

"Never?" Sergei pressed.

Kathy looked away, uncomfortable with how close that hit home. Since in the end she had always wished someone would like her for what she was, not because she could change things by singing.

"Well...Maybe a little." She finally admitted.

Once again they just sat there under the tree staring at nothing and everything until finally Sergei got up. "Well I'm off. If I miss too many classes I'll be in detention for a week."

"Later then." Kathy leaned back against the tree once he had left and closed her eyes, humming to herself. Carefully keeping her power in check. Hopefully once she was done here she would be able to sing without the power coming forth. Or as her instructors were trying to do, having her refine it to be able to get a similar effect with speaking alone.

Though she was rather unhelpful in that respect. Refusing to really apply herself towards that goal. If she could she would have turned the damn thing off. It was a constant battle with her, going from loving her power to hating it and back again.

"I guess so."

Ezekiel shrugged his bag further up his shoulder, annoyed that he'd packed for a couple of lessons when he should have known Cody was only going to distract him and be a bad influence.

Anyway, it was too nice a day for him to be sitting inside and listening to a professor droning on when he could be snacking with one of his best friends. The subject of girls wasn't a big deal for him--to be honest he never thought much on the matter. Feelings like that didn't seem useless to him, as he wasn't that cold, he just always assumed he'd know he was supposed to be with someone when he met her.

It seemed like a good path to go down, and avoided unfortunate crushes that only wound up hurting him.

He brushed red hair back from his face with perfected elegance, waving coyly to a couple of girls he knew from class. He smiled slightly as they giggled behind their hands, obviously making little 'Aaw' noises from the look of their expressions. It was no secret to him that he was considered adorable by many of the female student body.

Meanwhile, he'd caught sight of Anna from the corner of his eyes, her red hair catching the light of the sun like his must be, too. He grinned and bent down to pick a flower, watching as it wilted and turned black, perpetually frozen in beautiful death. He wasn't sure why he found such beauty in something like that, and whether or not Anna would appreciate it or not, she would know he had meant well. It had become a sort of strange custom, anyway.

"Anna~" He called cheerfully, ignoring Cody as he mentioned something about playing basketball later, waving his hand as if to say, Yeah, yeah. In a sec.

He approached the pretty redhead, handing her the flower with a flourish. Anna was a good friend and he trusted her, so hoped to see that nervous little smile of hers before he and Cody prodded her into ditching lessons.
Before the tardy bell rang once more the trio of dorks found their way into Miss Pedigrue's class, Ethical Mind Control 101. Miss Pedigrue had once fought crime and social injustice under the alia of "The Dominator," but now used her abilities towards much more noble pursuits, even if they didn't pay very well. She was an attractive, but tired looking woman in her mid-40's. So tired in fact that she was asleep at her deck when the last batch of students entered.

"Justice never sleeps eh?" Dwight joked to Shy as they took their seats.

The classroom was your typical one, books, pencils, motivational posters and plenty of students. Of course, that last bit was what differentiated Cheshire High from every other private school in the world: the students.

"Dwight, my man!" one of the resident shapeshifters stuck their hand out to give Dwight a 'high five.' Today he had decided to be some sort of bird creature, although that would probably change by lunch.

While in most places a nerd like dwight wouldn't pass as 'acceptable' here he was one of the more popular students. You see, when most of the graduating class has horns and fur the students tend to be less discrminating.

"I have no idea who half of these people are," Dwight muttered, "Are you sure this is one of my classes?"

Shy rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure. You'd know that if you actually showed up once in a while."

"Semenaide kesanaide makenaide, dare datte motteru hazu yuzurenai mono, adiake yumedake kimidake...." Aizen continued singing to herself loudly in Japanese, slightly frustrating Shy.

Miss Pedigrue awoke from her peaceful slumber, surprised to see the rest of the class staring at her.

"Egads!" She shrieked, staring at her watch, "What period is this?"

"Dooshiyoomonake ochi tsukanai yoru!" Aizen shouted!

"Hm. Someone from 'Controlling Bodily Functions' must have overdone it again. I guess it could be worse..."

The classroom giggled as Miss Pedigrue ran her fingers through her hair, discovering several spit-wads tangled in it.

"Ugh, students," She groaned, "Now if you can please pass your homework forward, I'd like to discuss yesterday's lesson and perform a mental exercise. Any volunteers?"
Anna couldn't help but smile as Ezekiel handed her a dead flower with a flourish. Carefully she took it and held on to it. Even if she preferred live flowers she knew he meant well and it was his power after all, being able to kill a plant with a single touch, and in a way it did have a strange beauty to it. At least when he killed it, other than the black color it looked just like any dried preserved flower would. Though it wasn't exactly dry.

It was then that she noticed that though Ezekiel was carrying their bag with their books and such for class, Cody was not. It didn't take much to figure out that he was planning on cutting class. Cody was like that, making up his mind about something and simply doing it. A guess that was shortly confirmed.

"Zeke and I are going to grab some snacks and take off," He said grinning. "Care to join us?"

Anna thought about it, her grades had been terrible lately, earning her stern lectures from the teachers. But no matter how hard she tried she just couldn't seem to muster up enough enthusiasm to even care. Even this morning, she was doing as she always did, heading for class out of habit. Anna knew that she would spend most of the time thinking about other things instead of listening.

"Come on, it'll be fun Anna." Ezekiel said when Anna did not reply immediately.

It would earn her detention or extra homework, but that didn't matter. Anna hadn't been doing much of that lately anyway, what was another assignment or two when you weren't going to do them anyway? She made up her mind, smiling slightly.

"Okay." She said as she joined them in walking towards the cafeteria. Sort of paying attention to the different topics they were discussing and yet not.

In no time they had secured some snacks and were headed towards one of their favorite spots, or at least one of Anna's favorite spots. An older garden shed made of brick with a flat roof that was perfect for chatting since one could simply climb on top and take a seat. Giving one a view of the school grounds and yet being just high enough that those on the ground wouldn't see you.

Anna had as always been feeling a bit down, but that soon vanished as Cody started off on telling them about some of the more funny mishaps among the students due to their powers. She couldn't help but giggle at the thought of the prim and proper math teacher being soaked in milk when someone failed to levitate it properly, resulting in the whole thing landing on the teachers head.

She sighed contentedly, if only time would stand still, she didn't want to finish school and move on. Until she had been sent here she had never had friends. Quickly she pushed the thought aside. Anna didn't want to spoil a perfectly good morning of goofing off. She smiled as Cody started off on another funny story.
