[FONT=Tahoma]Well hey there, team. I pretty much know all of you (some better than others) but i can confidently say that I havn't got a single worry about this move. I know my automatically becoming captain like this may seem sudden and unwanted, especially since to my knowledge Beth has not done anybody wrong as the former captain. So my hope is that if any ill feelings are toward me, that they will dissipate over time and we can continue the winning ways of The Titans. I feel great about having every one of you as my teammates, and am especially looking forward to the next challenge.

Since I have been put in this position by another method aside from being voted in by you guys, I will try even harder to be a capable captain. Now, concerning the next challenge...since I do know pretty much all of you to a well enough extent to make a judgement on who I think would be best for the task, I could give my choices now. But i'd like to hear some input from you guys as well, whether it be volounteering or nominating. Let's make it somewhat fast though since I believe Sandy is tapping his foot on this one (but I suppose we can make Sandy wait >.>).

[font=tahoma]Indeed that would have been my original choice as well. It seems White and Sakura won't have any strong objections to sitting out this round and playing in some supporting roles. So for whenever our rounds come up, we now have our three debaters:

These are good choices, and again I have no worries =).

As for the format of how the debates will go, I've spoken with Sakura about this already and figure Sandy will play the teams against one another so that one person from each team faces off against a person of the other 3 teams, such as:

It would be six rounds like Sandy said it would be and would seemingly be the best way to run it, though I suppose it's a possibility that Sandy could stick us with the same team for all 3 runs.

Sandy has stated already that he does not mind discussions to occur within the team threads concerning each round of the challenge, so everyone (including Sakura and White) may have some sort of input, though the chosen debater will essentially have to do the majority of the work for his/her self. I don't see that as much of a problem for us, but for anyone that needs the possibility, it is there =).[/font]

Though when it comes down to it, I'd rather be stripped of being Captain like this then having my own teammates decide they want someone else. >_< [/COLOR]

Don't worry on the grammar part Beth, you're not alone on that. I can't count how many errors Sakura has found in stuff i've written in the past, heh. But we'll have plenty of time to look it over i'm sure before we post it up.

Anyway, can't wait for the first debate to get started. ours and the current one (eh, so call me a sucker for contraversey :rolleyes:), and in case anyone else drew a different conclusion then intended on the language, I meant each team facing a different team each round [b]as opposed[/b] to two teams going at it [b]for[/b] three rounds.

Sorry if there was a misunderstanding, as it would be downright silly to suggest anything other than a team vs team debate :cool:.

Plus, i'm quite happy that abortion has been gotten out of the way already. Though either Beth or Mike would probably have an easier time debating one side or the other then myself, I typically find myself split on that matter.[/font]

[FONT=Tahoma]It does indeed seem like we will be here for a while. I've been doing some thinking on what kind of topics Sandy will have up his sleeve that will be the topic of future debates. If abortion is a glimpse into the future, we're going to have some serious point/counter-point arguments forced upon us (i.e [u]for[/u] or [u]against[/u] something, like the first debate). Though I can't wait to see what our first one will be about, this method may certainly not sit well with some people due to a conflict in beliefs. Though it seemed to work our remarkably well with 2 members of the Mercs being Pro-choice on abortion. I have to say in my objective opinion as well, Aarayana is doing quite well for herself so far.

So hopefully amongst the three debaters chosen here, we won't have too much of a problem with the aforementioned issue.

And though it is interesting to watch I kind of wish Sandy would have two debates going at the same time since this is taking a while.

Anyway, I'm not going to say anything about topics I would have trouble with, no need to give Sandy ideas right? ^_~ And even if he gave us abortion again, I could still argue it and having read what the others have already said would just make it easier to present a different angle on the argument.

[FONT=Tahoma]Marijuana is definitly not neary as dangerous as DUI, nor is the probability of injury, death or even sense inhibition as prevalent as it is due to the effects of alcohol when an intoxicated person gets behind a wheel. Both are exceptionally dangerous by themselves when simply circulating through the human body, but while the effects of alcohol poisoning may be more on par with the effects of Marijuana (and when I say [u]more[/u] on par, i don't even mean that it's all that close), death is in greater numbers and happens quicker and more efficiently from alcohol related accidents alone. Throw in alcohol related deaths [u]not[/u] caused by being in a car and the amount only rises. Even if Marijuana were to be legalized, the effects on human health from excessive smoking as opposed to excessive drinking happen at a noticbly slower rate. So a balanced comparison between the two would have to be very narrow on the side of alcohol comparison. I don't want to get into that too much now, or cite any sources and such lest I give our opponents any obvious help. There's definitly a wider gap of difference though.

There are however more sides to this particular argument (our debate topic) then it seems. I don't know from personal experience but theres quite a good amount of info that can be brought up on the negatives (as Beth already mentioned) but the same goes for the positives. Though the negatives seem to be more abundant and statistic friendly so I think it gives us an advantage. [/FONT]

[/FONT][/quote]Personally I think the positives are not a problem here since most of the arguments on that stance tend to be from a medical standpoint. And this debate is more about making them legal for everyone, not as a controlled substance that can only be obtained from a doctor. Ironically I see no reason to even compare alcohol since it would be to easy to counter with the point that Marijuana is not as deadly in that respect. I've been looking around online but I'm going to save the specifics of what I found for the debate if I am the one chosen or to send to the person who will be representing us this round. [/COLOR]

[font=tahoma]Indeed, exactly the point I was trying to make. Though it isn't even because I know all that much about Marijuana necessarily...it's more like I've done a ton of research and reports in my time having to do with alcoholism and drinking and driving, lol.

If that were our debate topic, I think it would be easier for all of us. But Sandy wouldn't want that :p.
