Being an actor and speech writer and such, I do have debating skills. I don't like confrontation much, but if I have to do it, I do it. I've never lost a debate at school, so I guess that's a good thing. Don't sell yourself so short yet. We all have our better qualities. I probably won't be the best at this since you're a master debator (chuckle, chuckle). Good thing you're captain now ;) Haha.

No worries about the role in the script either, Darren ;) I just needed someone to fill that role and you were the first person I spotted in the "Who's Online" section. Hehe.

Nevertheless, welcome aboard! And glad to have ya! Though, BK will be missed...

Well I am on OB a lot, but eh, it was a good script so I can't complain.

Sandy said that the debates should take a while to finish so we should keep ourselves entertained... Hmmm, any ideas becasue it seems to be dead space here. Some questions, maybe?

Wedding!!!

Oh, yes... I love indie films, and I love making them even more. For my film class, we have to make an indipendent film preview... But I'm not satisfied with just a preview so I'm making the whole thing. I'm still learning about all of it, considering that I just got my camcorder for christmas (and that's all that's avaiable) and the editing system I have at school isn't too snazy, but I love to make them, whether it turns out crap or not.

But now, it seems our time has come to test our debating skills. It seems that we're trying to leagalize Cannabis, hehe... Well, since hemp isn't exactly illegal in the states, I'm assuming Sandy meant specifically marajuana.

Now it's up to whoever wants to take it... Personally, I really want to get Kitty's opinion on the matter first. Since she said that she isn't the strongest debater, I think that we should find something that she feels passionate about and let her go for it. (Not that I'm implying Kitty's a pot-head, haha) If not, I don't think I would be all too willing to take this one... I find it hard to think of anything good that could come of leagalizing "cannibis." And that would only hinder me in making an effective argument... I'm not saying I wouldn't debate this, (I can debate a brick wall about how it's blocking the sun) but I'm saying it might not be a guarenteed victory.

*shrugs* so how do you guys feel?

Pretty awesome about the film making :) I love making indie films as well. We should definitely discuss our works together.

Well, I will take up the task, but I strongly suggest you two debate this. This topic is actually one of my worst and I don't think I'd be up to par for it. Heck, I'd take abortion over it, haha. For one thing, I know nothing about cannibis or mary jane, and for sure can't really come up with successful reasons why it's good (aside from medical purposes). This isn't my strongest point, plus debating is a weak spot in me. But it is up to you, Darren.

Well I could always take it, but I don't think it would be very captain like of me to do it without consulting Kitty first. I suppose I shouldn't hold up the game though... So, I'll wait until the Titans make their decision. If I haven't heard back from her by then, then I'll just have to take it myself. *ugh*
And just like you, I can't think of anything good except for medical purposes, although I guess that's a good point to build a case over. Whatever works.

You listen to Panic! At The Disco, eh DW? :P

Sorry for the lateness in my reply. I don't know why I didn't see new posts in this thread. o_O;; Anyway, I feel the same as DW on this topic. I don't know much about marijuana (whether that surprises you, Darren, I'm not sure. :P), or it's medical purposes other than being a painkiller, and even then, there are plenty of alternative painkillers. So I personally don't want to take this one, but if you'd rather I do I guess I can, lol. Looks like it's up to you, though, Darren. Sorry. >__>;;

Haha, yes, I do. I love Panic! At The Disco. But I don't like it when people say my band ripped them off 'cause we have an exclamation point in our name :P (we're called Bang-Go! Fandango).

But yes, looks like our Captain shall make the decision! We're all available for it. It's just up to you to decide who is best suited :)

Okay fine, I'll do it. Oh boy, I guess I should go and do my research now, before I have to make my opening statement...

But, I also like Panic! at the Disco... Not as much as my friend. (She's obsessed) They're definately good. my favorite song is "But it's Better if You Do." How about you guys?

I'm partial to "It's Time To Dance," obviously :P Haha. But I'm not obsessed either. There are plenty of other bands I'm completely in love with. My top five are:

DW's Top Five Favorite Bands

1. Live

2. Waking Ashland

3. The Shins

4. Prozzak

5. Aqualung
Good stuff :D What about you folkies?

Oh boy! Top 5!

1. Green Day

But I'm not a poser GD fan... I've really been listening to them since I was little and it really makes me mad when people come up and quiz me about my favorite song or what the band members' names are... Of course, it's fun to rub it in their faces when I know more about Green Day than they do... So no, I don't think they sold out, and I love all of their stuff except for a few songs from the new album. creative freedom is all I have to say about that... If it weren't for that, we never would have seen The Network, which is highly entertaining, even though they'll never admit to creating it.
Favorite song (by album):
1,039 Smoothed/Out Slappy Hour: Green Day
Kerplunk: Christy Road & Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?
Dookie: Basket Case
Insomniac: Walking Contradiction
Nimrod: Hitchin' a Ride & Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
Warning: Warning
American Idiot: Give Me Novacaine, Homecomeing, & Wake Me Up When September Ends

2. Jimmy Eat World

I've been a fan for a long time. Favorite song: Work & Lucky Denver Mint!

3. Auto Escape

They're a local underground band from Dallas, TX... But I seriously think they'll make it big with their next album. (which they're working on right now. I can't wait!) Favorite Song: Falling Asleep in the Snow (Acoustic Version)

4. Dashboard Confessional

What can I say? They're a great band... And they're great people. I actually got to meet them in concert..... HERE and HERE and HERE and... HERE! Be warned, that this is after the concert; after I had been thrown around and crowd surfed during Brand New's performance.
Favorite Song: Vindicated, Stolen, & Hands Down

5. Is a toss-up between Taking Back Sunday and Straylight Run...

Both of those bands have had such close ties with each other that I love them both equally... Even though they couldn't sound more different.
Favorite Song by TBS: MakeDamnSure
Straylight Run: Existentialism on Prom Night

But this isn't what my musical taste is limited to... I like just about anything, and by the way DW, I love the shins!

Onto things that matter: I've done a bit of research and found 75 pages worth of reasons why Marajuana should be legalized. And not all of it has to deal with medical purposes, but I won't state what it is, so I can keep the enemy on their toes. Anyway, as soon as I make sense of all of the info, I'll go through and present my opening statement. Would any of you like a roughdraft before I post it, so you can help with grammatical errors or whatever else would be helpful?

If you'd like me to look it over, I can any time. Just simply PM it my way and I'll read through ASAP :)

But ohhh, now you're making it complicated. I have to add more than just naming my favorite bands :P So be it... besides, the list I posted above is old. I can't even remember my own favorite bands. Haha.

1) Live
Favorite Song: "Simple Creed"
This band has fully influenced my musical tastes ever since I first listened to their song "Overcome," then opened up to their CD my sister owned called "Secret Samadhi." They were around one of the first bands I got into. I used to not be very interested in music (which is crazy, 'cause now music is my life since I'm a musician), and I can thank Live for being one of those bands that helped me into the music scene. I can fairly say I like every one of their songs and eagerly await each tour date they're near me or CD that they release. Naturally that means I have all their CDs, and their music plagues my iPod. I have a million favorites by these guys, but I guess "Simple Creed" takes the cake... for now.

2) Waking Ashland
Favorite Song: "Medication"
Like how Live was one of the first bands to influence me, Waking Ashland is by far the newest band to ever change my life. Their music has influenced a lot of mine for the few bands I've been in, not to mention some of my solo work. Their music is what I go to if I'm feeling down or even need something for a long drive somewhere. They're definitely what I call a "Let's Go Home" band because they put that kind of good feeling in you. They have a sound like none other. If Live didn't exist, they'd be #1 to me... and right now, they're scratchin' the heels of Live, so...

3) The Shins
Favorite Song: "Australia"
I just bought their newest CD... and can fairly say that they're one of the only bands (aside from ones like Live and Waking Ashland) that I actually own all the CDs to. These guys also influence me a lot with their unusual sound that I can't really compare to anywhere else. Some of their songs are very beautiful but psychadelic zany, while others are upbeat and bouncy. It's hard to explain how they sound 'cause they really have their own appeal. You are ten pages cooler for liking them, Darren. Bytheway, their new CD is air-mazing!

4) Prozzak (Now referred to as "Simon And Milo")
Favorite Song: "Europa"
These guys date back to my younger years in the 90's. I wasn't much for music back then (like I said, Live was around the time I really got into the scene), but I still somewhat enjoyed them. Perhaps it's because they used cartoons for their music videos. These guys are a Canadian Band with a club/electronica/pop twist, mixed in with some sweet flaminco guitar stylings. Two band members, Simon and Milo, write about the endless tales of them trying to find love in the world. Each song tells a new story. Many will shun these guys since they're so poppy (not like Backstreet Boys, but a different poppy... not poppyseed either...). After I really started getting into music, these guys, like Live, were one of my first favorites. They've stuck through and now go by the name Simon and Milo. I'll continue to enjoy their beats that make you just wanna dance!

5) Aqualung
Favorite Song: "Extra Ordinary Thing"
Being a pianist, it's no surprise I enjoy this band (which is really just one guy, but ya know). His beats are all very beautiful and calming, and you can really hear the artistic side to things. Many may know his more popular stuff such as "Strange And Beautiful" or "Brighter Than Sunshine." It's a very low-key style; very slow indeed. If you're down or just need something to calm you, Aqualung normally prevails for me. Mixed with some Waking Ashland, it's the perfect beat to a long day... or a long drive home from a long day.

I just finished my opening statement... I sent it to both of you via PM. Tell me what you think, but most importantly, check any grammatical errors for me. I tend to mix up "affect" and "effect." I think it's pretty good.
By the way, I decided to abandon the other reason for marijuana legalization... It wasn't a strong enough argument and it would have clouded my main points. Also, it would have just made me seem dumb. So, in case you were wondering, I was going to take the approach of religion...
Okay, let me know how you guys feel about it.

I have sent back my response :) Good work. I'm really diggin' it and you definitely are a "master debater" ;) You weren't just tooting your own horn when you said it was something you enjoyed doing because you are good at it. I'm convinced, haha. Well, I should be. Anyways, onward!

PS: Haha, yes, you did mix "affect" and "effect" around, but no biggie. I fixed it ;)

Well, unfortunately, I don't actually enjoy debate, but-- Oh wait, I get it; sex jokes, haha (toot my horn, that's dirty) :D
Anyway, on with my statement: I really don't like debate. It's just something that comes easy for me... I'm actually considering dropping out of deabte at school; It's just not there for me, and my partner is always nagging, (because it's 2-person debates; policy) and we don't really get along, and I don't really like the format that's required of debate. I like a free format, "open forum" kind of debate, where just about anything goes... It lets you think on your feet. I may just switch to 1-person debate and see if one less nagging partner will spark my interest again.
Really, I guess the only reason why I haven't quit yet is because I like the National Forensics League (NFL) points! I get so many for every round of debate... It help boost my ranking in the class and it allows me to go to certain events that other people with lesser points can't go to... Then, when it comes time for important issues in speech/drama/debate, (such as deciding where we want to eat after a tournament) my vote counts for about 3 since I have a rank of excellence. It's great to have power! Muahaha.
Thanks on the compliment, either way you sick perv.

And back to the music... I can't really recall a lot of Waking Ashland, but I used to download a lot of their songs... I guess I lost interest, but what I remember was great. And I just recently bought that New Aqualung CD. It's pretty good... I'm actually saving up for Wincing the Night Away since I just spent all my cash. I'm sure the Shins won't let me down.

Oh, my mistake. Haha. I must've misread it earlier and thought you actually liked debating. I wish we each could do one (you the opening, me the argument, Kitty the rebuttal), but I guess it's not in the cards like that. And I'm assuming you're referring to Forensics as in "competitive acting and speech" rather than the police investigation of dead bodies. Haha. I did Forensics as well. Being an actor, I did Duo all four years of high school, though. Well, my first three years I did Duo. My senior year I did both Dramatic Interpretation and a Multiple.

But yes, The Shins will not let you down. If you like their older stuff such as what's on "Chutes Too Narrow," then I'm sure the songs like "Phantom Limb" (their single) and "Girl Sailor" are for you. But they still have their style and their old flavor. I'm just partial to the two new songs on that CD "Australia" and "A Comet Appears." Delish!

I like all the bands you mentioned as well (not so much Taking Back Sunday, though... I like 'em, but they're only okay to me. Haha). I'd be a major Green Day fan, I'm sure, if they weren't so publicly used all the time. I try not to let fans ruin my experiences with bands, but sadly I have heard "Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance)" fifty times through slideshows at my school alone! That song was good, but not after it was overplayed to death. I will say "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is one of their best, though, and even if it's also played a lot, it isn't ruined yet. Haha. Still, we all love Jimmy Eat World! ;) And does Auto Escape have a myspace? Maybe I can check them out.

Oh yes, I wish we could debate together like in CX... (I'm assuming that you know what that is since you were in that class) Question: Did you perform in NFL or something else? I noticed that you used the term "Duo," and the only time that we ever get to perform a duo is when our school goes to NFL districts. See, we're under OSSAA, "Oklahoma something or another, that I forgot what it really means" and that's what we actually compete in throughout the entire year. In OSSAA, we get to perform Duets. And they can be either humorous or dramatic. (as opposed to just lumping them all together in one category) However, we can't get to nationals through OSSAA, only state. :(

Ah well, on to seriousness: For my arguements, (which I plan on posting tomorrow, after I send you two the rough drafts) should I go into debate mode. Sandy did say that language used plays an important role in victory, and I feel that this would help, but I also feel that the words I use would be lost on everyone, and would work against me since not everyone in OB Survivor is a "master debater." Haha. I've already got several of my arguements written down. I'm just waiting for a message back from Sandy before I accidentally break the rules.

Yay! Some of my favorite bands! Yes, TBS isn't extremely high on the list. Yes, I had heard of them before, but I didn't actually start listening to them until I found out they had connections with Straylight Run. And I really only like a few songs from them, so to actually say that they're tied would be an unfair statement. I guess TBS runs a close 6th place. And that will probably change soon anyways, because I have phases. There are years where I'll like one band and the next, I'll hardly ever listen to them again. It's only the bands that I listen to continually over the years (like all the one's I listed except Auto Escape and TBS) that I actually get to stay in my faves. Oh and yes, Auto Escape does have a myspace. I love that site. I listen to music on there 99.9% of the time, it's great. I'll link it: Auto Escape

Unfortunately, the band doesn't have the acoustic version to that song I mentioned... Only the second version. But that's okay, it's equally good, but in a different way. I guess I just like the acoustic sounds. I can't help but still love Green Day's "Time of your Life," just because I love the tune... And I understand why it would be played to death as a senior song... That's why I hope no one does that for my senior year next year. I can't help but like that coffee-shop-esque (I just made that up. Deal with it) style music.

Just a few of my other favorites, (but not nearly limited to) include:
The Bravery
The Academy Is...
Snow Patrol
Temposhark (British Electronica, YAY!)
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Amublance LTD
Jack's Mannequin
& Paolo Nutini (British/Scottish Soul :cool: )

~~~~~~~~~EDIT~~~~~~~~~~~
I had to go ahead and post my argument. I would have taken the time to send it to both of you in PM form, but I didn't have access to a computer tonight until extremely late. So, since I needed to get it up before I went to bed (which is where I'm supposed to be right now) I just had to write it quickly and post it. Unfortunately, there are probably a vast amount of grammatical and spelling errors. As I've stated, I'm tired, and I was rushed. However, I think that my argument was good enough that all minor errors should be overlooked. At least I'm hoping. :animeswea
Well, I'm expecting that once enough members have been kicked off the teams are going to be dissolved, and the competition will turn into an every-man-for-himself kind of thing. Of course, once that happens, I can't imagine I'll last much longer (should I make it there at all), lol.
Otherwise, I'm very unsure of what's coming up, so I'm nervous at the end of every challenge. xD
Hmmm, I'm not sure.
The challenges have been so unique so far, it's hard to predict anything that you may come up with. I hope it's nothing too harmful... Or another speed event. (even though you said you never would) Maybe there will be a large challenge where half the players are eliminated... But then we later find out that they've only secretly been waiting to come back and kill us all... Then again, maybe not. (Especially the killing part)
I'm with Kitty; I'm too nervous to think strait. I'll keep my mind focused on the current task. DEBATES!
It's eventually gonna get down to the nitty gritty and you're going to have to do a lot of things you're not gonna wanna. I, for one, am willing. But all the same, that's what makes this fun.
And those other bands rock, Darren. I only don't recognize two (Temposhark & Ted Leo).
Sorry about losing the challenge. I was really hoping to gain us another member as opposed to giving the titans ANOTHER member!!! At least we didn't lose anybody, so that's always a good thing. I really didn't think it was much of a fair fight, but I guess there wasn't much else I could do. I was actually hoping to prove myself as captain and the new guy, but that didn't work out.
So, now it's time for captain swaps, and I'm a pm to Sandy putting DW as the new captain... I don't really like leadership positions, ya know... Since things are all group decisions, it's great... But I just can't handly having that official title as captain. It feels like I have a huge target on my back.
So I hope you re-accept captain DW, or else I'll have to shove it down your throat!!!
No problem about losing. You did the best you could and a fine job. It was by large better than what I could have done out there. You were the best choice. We didn't gain anyone, but we also didn't lose anyone, so we may continue on to conquer!
And if that is really what you want, I shall accept Captain again.
Okay guys, as Darren already said, he wants to give up his rights as a captain. But as we live in a team-o-cracy (haha, funny me!), we will hold an election.
I want a PM from both Dragon Warrior and Kitty with the name of the one they want as their captain: Darren or Dragon Warrior?
It's settled then, Dragon Warrior will return to the lead of your team.
Okay, folkies, it's quite obvious how we can go about this new challenge. It's a parody of a song, and hell!--what is our team about? Comedy! So parodies of songs should be right up our alley. I do it all the time, in fact. We gotta get all Weird Al on this challenge. Having said that, there's a lot of ways to go about it, of course. Do we do a song about how cool we are, or how people should be like us and enjoy the humor in life, or whatever? Plus, we need to choose a song, particularly one we can launch on here.
I'll now open the floor to the two of you to throw out some ideas. I don't want to sound too overwhelming already and say, "We're doing it this way!" But I do think perhaps a humorous take on a song is the right way to go (and probably Sandy's intention in the first place).
