Claire
Since there are bound to have been some changes to the bands we talked about in the old "Your Bands" thread, I decided to make a new thread. So, how many of you are musically inclined? Is anyone in a band? Or maybe we have some solo artists here? Share your musical endeavors! I've had plenty of projects in the past, but none of them ever really got very far off the ground. I have a good feeling about my most recent one, however, so I'm hoping I'll be able to give it my all. My current band is called Nectar of the Gods (or NOG for short). At the moment, the lineup is myself on guitar and my friend, Caitlin, on vocals. She wants this band to work just as badly as I do. We're looking for a bassist and a drummer, though there aren't too many available people who both have the talent AND want to be in our group. The only recordings on our myspace were done by me, but there's a chance that the two of us will be able to collaborate sometime soon. NOG is heading towards a strange mix of genres: primarily punk, but also a combination of electronica, goth, progressive, and maybe even a little emo. Most of our influences are listed on the myspace, but they include AFI, Misfits, Placebo, MSI, the Descendents, the Unseen, and many other ecletic bands. I just borrowed a microphone from a friend, and I was working on recording some music before my computer crashed. I might create a purevolume page for us, too, once we get a write and record a few more songs.
Vicky
*Points to OtaKuties thread* I play drums, lots. At one point I had a band, wasn't a very good one mind you, there were three of us. My mate wants to get this band back together, I personally don't think it would work (our music tastes are incredibly different). I also play a bit of guitar but I'm rather **** at it. My hands aren't made for guitars and I'm just too stubborn to give up ;_; I've never actually recorded any of my stuff but I intend to a some point. Maybe a video if I can find the camera again... whether I'll post it or not is another story, heh. Be interestin' to hear about everyone else and their musical-ness as well, though =p
2010DigitalBoy
Sorry to be off-topic, but could any of you give me advice on how to actually go about starting a band? You see, I really want to sing for a band and I've written more lyrics than i can think of and I've got all sorts of ideas for song working. The only problem is, I don't know where to look for musicians! No one I know plays instruments (and Im not popular) so how did you guys find people? (hopefully someone has a whole band here)
Jakehammaren
I've got a solo project called Elderfrost which I will be getting a live group together for so that we can play live at the local Battle of the Bands next month. I have created a myspace for it, but there isn't any music up on it yet. It's melodic black/viking metal, and I'm pretty confident about it thus far. Expect a 3-song demo of sorts soon, featuring "Enthroned by Winter", "These Mountains Shall Be Your Grave", and "Of Trees and Trollfolk". As many of you already know, I participate in a group called Edda (www.myspace.com/vikingedda), to which I lend my vocals as well as various folk instruments. Our newer material will be moving away from metal a bit and heading more toward a Nordic folk/ambient direction.

Rachmaninoff
So, how many of you are musically inclined? Is anyone in a band? Or maybe we have some solo artists here? Share your musical endeavors!
Musically inclined? Yes. In a band? No. Solo artist? Yes and no. I do perform in recitals as is required for school and I am part of one of the university orchestra?s as well. Either one is enjoyable as I love playing the Cello, even if I?m too broke to afford a much nicer instrument than what I have now. Right now I have no interest in composition or in recording any music. I?m more interested in getting my Masters and then going on to get my Doctorate as I intend to teach music, preferably at a university, but I?m sure there will be lots of other interesting possibilities as well. pooperson
I can play almost any musical instrument... if it's a band instrument. Like, band. The class. Yeah. I can't play the guitar [but I love it!] or the drums [but they're so sexy!], nor can I sing [but I love to!]. Therefore, I am not in a band. I do perform, however, in the jazz band, pep band, pit orchestra, marching band, two concert bands, etc, on the trumpet [AKA the best instrument ever]. The only music I write is instrumental, and it's not that wonderful. I plan on majoring in Music Education at Butler University in Indianapolis. So basically, music is my passion, my life, my everything. But no, I'm not in a band, so to speak =].
Goodbye, Face
I have a few friends with whom I am trying to start a band. I would play guitar and do some vocals, from the sound of it. We might end up getting a certain female friend to sing for us instead though (she's actually a trained vocalist XD). Our other guitarist has loads of material (he told me once that he tries to write a song per day) and we both have totally different styles of music that we like to listen to and are used to playing. Basically, the two of us have agreed on Sludge Metal, we don't have a bassist, and our drummer doesn't really care, we haven't even played with him yet. So yeah, we're just starting up. ^^;
Boo
Currently I'm in the process of starting at least two bands. Both don't have a name yet. The first band is a band with a classmate and a friend of his. I'm going to play guitar and/or bass in it. Not that I can actually play the bass very well, but I pretend like I can. Perhaps I'll also do some singing for it. Our genre of music would be somewhere around hard rock. My classmate plays the drums and wouldn't mind singing and his friend plays the guitar. And both of them play keyboard. For now we've still only had one meeting in which we decided that we sort of first needed to practice together with existing songs before making own songs. The other band is more like a musical duo with one of my best friends. The idea is to record songs with mainly our vocals to make the music. For now we're in the process of making one song and almost finished a cover of a song. I'm doing the guitar and the bass with my voice, and he's doing the drums and the singing. Edit: The working title the musical duo is currently under is Tomato Frog. This might change later, though so far we enjoy it. But mainly I just play guitar. Electric and acoustic classical.

Jakehammaren
Alright, my band ELDERFROST has some songs up now! Give it a listen if you so wish. www.myspace.com/elderfrost
2010DigitalBoy
I actually thought it was alright, Jake. Not bad for a solo project. It may even be comparable to your average black/folk metal band. I kind of expected more prog influence from someone who's favorite bands are Opeth and Agalloch, but it was alrigt noneteless. Reminded me of Amon Amarth, which I guess was your goal.
Jakehammaren
Yeah, I don't think a prog influence on that style of music would be appropriate. My influences are coming from bands like Mithotyn, Bathory, Moonsorrow, Falkenbach and the like. Opeth and Agalloch are my favorite bands, but as a whole, I can't stand prog metal. I don't know why. And yes, Amon Amarth is an influence, but they're a melodic death metal band and I'm shooting more for Viking/folk/black metal.
Anakoni Stark
I play the Bass guitar, armed with a distortion kit, and a fair sized amp. Me and my friends have this band thing worked out, my brother he's working with the strings, and is the substitute guitarist, then there's cray, the drummer, and jordan, vocals, rhythmn guitar. We have no name yet, we havent played anything, but we all crowd into a room and just play. Our style is going to be geared towards art punk, with a little bit of alternative metal.
Blayze
Haha, I love threads like this, it gives me a chance to show off my musical talent. Well, as some of you may already know, I play saxophone and bass guitar, and I am in a band called The Krush. We've been together for almost two years now. It is made up of me (Phil) on bass and backing vocals (and saxophone, although we haven't written any songs involving that yet, but we are doing a cover of that ska classic "One Step Beyond" at our next gig), Dan and Ant on guitar, with Dan also on backing vocals and harmonica, Tom on drums and Jonny on lead vocals. We wrote our first song, "With Me," almost two years ago now, and we are still not sure what it's about (actually, the majority of our songs are like that), but it has a nice kind of ska-ish feel to it. The other song on our Myspace, "You've Got The Answer," was actually written in the space of about two days, but we're still proud of it. The guy who helped us record, a friend named Guppy, also made a drum 'n' bass remix of "With Me," which is pretty fun. We have three more songs written which we have yet to record, although by mid-March we should have some live recordings up, and then by April we should have at least one more studio recording to our name. Anyway, listen, enjoy, and I look forward to hearing some of the music from the rest of you. (By the way, Clurr, I love your music. It's really impressive how good quality it is seeing as you've done them yourself. The songs are also really nice, they have some good pace to them, they sound good.) Xyandar
I have been a keyboardist since I was 6 years old and I am currently 19. I play alot of techno and rock on it like Avenged Sevenfold, The Used, Benni Benassi, and I make alot of my own stuff. Im going to be recording soon and post it on Myspace. I also have a drum set behind me. I played drums for about 5 years but i didnt really excel at it as much as i have with keyboard. A few years ago my friends and I made a band called Rebirth. I was the Drummer and my friends were guitarist, bassist and DJ. We did pretty good for a while but the guitarist got tired of playin the same songs at shows so we stopped. I am hoping to get into another band sometime soon. I also love to sing but I only sing on my personal time with myself. I dont sing in front of many people hehe. MirrIll
I've been playing guitar for the past I dunno, four years now probably? Sadly, though, half of that time wasn't actually spent PLAYING the guitar, and I didn't get really serious about it until earlier this year. I've been in a few bands, one when I first got my guitar back when I was just an aspiring musician who knew pretty much nothing. That project got absolutely nowhere, heck, we never even settled on a name. After that came yet another nameless band, wrote two songs that were halfway decent for what they were but it was still pretty crappy. Around the beginning of 2005, I got together with some buddies of mine and started yet another unsuccessful band under the name of "He Against the Grave". We never actually decided on one set musical style and in the end none of us were happy with it, so besides the good times we had, that one was pretty much lame, too. On the brightside, it did help us with a lot of the "dos" and "don'ts" of banddom, and we played a few shows, so all in all it was worth the experience and stuff it gave us. In January of last year I got together with a few friends and we started a band called "Fastest Kid in 5th Grade" (considering the name was suggested by someone outside of the band with no explanation, I really don't know if it's in reference to Bridge to Terabithia or not, haha.) After countless arguments, a few member changes, and quite a few shows all over the state of North Carolina, we've developed quite a name for ourself in the local scene. We're now in the process of getting some promo shots done, buying a van, planning out a summer tour, and settling on a studio to record some demos at for the sake of sending em out to labels. We do, of course, have a MySpace, where you can listen to four songs. One recorded probably a week or two after we got together, one recorded last Spring, and two recorded mid-late last year. They're HARDLY professional quality, and to be completely honest I'm almost embarrassed by how UNprofessional they are, because I don't believe they do us justice at all. Here's a link to the MySpace, feel free to check it out. It may not be for everyone, though.
