Cicatrice Du Adieu
Hello! I was talking to my friend some time ago and was thinking about what we were talking about just now. Our conversation settled around music. We are both music junkies and enjoy the same type of music. She is always entraduceing new bands to me. I love getting band recommendations from poeple and learning about new bands. The point here is really that I want some band recomendations from poeple here. I'm not average when it comes to music, though. So i'll list all the genres and see what you all can come up with. I am into the following genres: Rock Gothic Techno Expiremental Industrial Electro Electronica Some Indie Some Crunk Some emo Some screamo some metal And anything related to those. 2010DigitalBoy
It would really REALLY help if you told us specifically what bands your into. If you don't, I'm going to start throwign out The Mars Volta, Dream Theater, Ayreon, Opeth, Isis, Agalloch, and the like and you'll hate them all, haha. Judginf from your tastes I can easily reccomend Coheed and Cambria. They are progressive rock with a pinch of emo in earlier releases and pinch of metal in later. I cannot easily describe their sound, but I know for a fact that if you pick up Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, you will like it. I just know. (also, if you follow that link in my sig, I've got a review of their first album in there) Tool is another I think you'd enjoy, assuming you don't already listen to them. They should be easily found on youtube or purevolume.

Claire
I'm not the authority on genres, but I'm gonna use what little knowledge I have to the best of my ability. Some punk groups I really like are the Descendents, the Unseen, the Adicts, and the Misfits. AFI from 1991-1997 has been classified as punk as well, and it's also very good. Of course, the following era of AFI (1998-2002) was amazing as well; still rooted in punk but moving towards a darker sound. Then you have the current AFI (2003-present), who are much more alternative, and make plenty of use of some electronica and sometimes even piano. My favorite hardcore/screamo group is Norma Jean. I haven't heard any other group of that kind, though, so there's not much room for competition. There's a lot of different things that can be classified as gothic, too. One of my favorite gothic groups is London After Midnight. They have a very dark, cold sound that fuses guitar and the like with electronic sounds and synthesizers. Their lyrics and music are absolutely perfect for writing vampire stories, just as a plus. Now, a completely different "gothic" band (though they're absolutely NOTHING like London After Midnight, and I'm not even sure why they're considered gothic in any circles at all) is Siouxsie and the Banshees. This band is from the 80's, I believe, and they're my favorite group from that decade. They're not electric or heavy at all, but often upbeat and on the softer side. I think my absolute most favorite "gothic" band is Rasputina, though. They're very unique, both in sound and appearance. The only instruments used are multiple cellos and a drumset. They experiment with distortion, too, which makes an amazing effect. Their lyrics are constantly witty and I've laughed very hard at many of their songs (such as "The Donner Party" and "Diamond Mind"). EDIT - Well, given your list of bands, I'm not sure if you'd really like any of this. I don't know, though, because I used to consider Nightwish my favorite band (a couple of years ago, at least) and I still love everything I mentioned. However, I think if you like Kill Hannah you should definitely check out Mindless Self Indulgence and Placebo. I'm not sure if they're all too similar musically, but I have a friend who adores those three bands. Maybe they have something in common. (I don't listen to Kill Hannah, but I LOVE MSI and Placebo).
2010DigitalBoy
For the love of tetragrammaton, please reduce the spaces between names, lol. Anyway, as mentioned above, you should definetally check out Tool, especially their older stuff. Also, I'm sure you've heard of Avenged Sevenfold. they seem like they'd be of your taste. Don't be one of the pople who hates them but hasn't even listened to them. Trivium is another band you might get into as they are often mentioned in the same breath as Bullet For my Valentine. I'm no big fan, but they may be right up your alley. Have fun scouring youtube for some vids! I'd suggest searching keywords, 'anthem (we are the fire)' .. 'Bat country' .. 'AEnima' .. and for coheed look for 'welcome home' EDIT: I almost forgot! Definetally look up Type O Negative!
Shinmaru
If you enjoy Scarling, then I assume you're already familiar with Jack Off Jill. If not, then definitely check them out, especially Clear Hearts, Grey Flowers, which is so much better than Sexless Demons and Scars it isn't even funny. Most of what JoJ and Scarling have in common stops with Jessicka, but they're good regardless. I've got to second the Siouxsie and the Banshees recommendation. They're wonderful. If you like them, seek out some more Gothic/New Wave-ish stuff too... The Cure, Depeche Mode, Echo & The Bunnymen, Joy Division, New Order, Talking Heads, Au Pairs, etc. I <3 them all. Cocteau Twins would also be good to look into if you like Siouxsie and the Banshees. Not that they're amazingly similar beyond having fantastically dynamic female vocalists, but something just tells me that if you like the one, then you'd enjoy the other. I do, at any rate. :P You might enjoy Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds as well. Nick Cave's songs are great, brooding pieces of work. He's got the rare quality that makes you feel as though you're part of a sweeping, epic show simply by listening to one of his albums. I have to be in a certain mood to take his music in, but when I'm in the right mood, it just blows me away. The guy is damn good lol.

In any case, my favorite song by JOJ is "Strawberry Gashes," so if you happen to find that one you might want to check it out. :]
Cicatrice Du Adieu
Tool is good. Avenged seven fold, Jack off jill, and dream theater I really haven't heard them enough to form an opinion. New order I am currently not to impressed with. Oh and I haven't checked out these bands yet. I will today. Alot i've heard of I just haven't listened to yet. Like Trivium, my friend told me about them but I forgot who they were and never made a mental (or physical) reminder to listen to them. Oh by the way the band list will probably extend. O.O It will be very long...unless I write another list of the recommended bands I like every once in a while. Now that's an idea.
Goodbye, Face
Trivium (or at least the stuff I've heard) is pretty bad. I would also suggest Mogwai to you, if you haven't heard of them. Their album, Mr. Beast that came out last year and is their best work. They're an instrumental band similar to Isis. (whoops, I thought someone else mentioned them!) Isis are basically Mogwai with more metal influences thrown in. If you like Mogwai and Isis, I'd go further and check out the Japanese band Envy, they're a true emo band (emo and screamo are the same thing, and the genre is NOTHING like Silverstein or whatever else you listen to that you think is emo) whose last two albums have been heavily influenced by Isis and Mogwai. I think you'd be into them if you can find their stuff.

I dont' like a single band on her list, but I do know that she will like Trivium and maybe Coheed. If you do decide to look up Dream Theater, look at songs on their album Train of Thought. It's pretty heavy, while their older stuff is more Rush-stye EDIT: Also, try At The Drive-in.
Guest humanoid
I recomended Aphex Twin. His genres is techno, ambient, acid, and drum and bass. I also recomended Monolake, Future Sound of London, Boards of Canada, Kraftwerk, Dntel. Dntel was the member of Postal Service. One of my vaforite indie rock band is The Cribs. Maybe you would like them. You my also try Love spiral downwards if you looking for ethereal & dark moods music I also recomended Fantomas. The band line up was great. Singer Mike Patton (ex Faith no More), guitarist Buzz Osborne (of The Melvins), bassist Trevor Dunn (of Mr. Bungle) and drummer Igor Cavalera (of Sepultura)
Zen
Dethklok: They are an animated Metal band from an [adult swim] show, but God their great. They should have a few songs on iTunes or Napster or whatever if you look. Heavy heavy stuff, but the lyrics are always about some ridiculous subject matter. From Duncan Hills Coffee to Go Into The Water. All good stuff though. Chamillionaire: You said you liked a little rap, well Chamillionaire is more than just a little. Probably the second best lyricist in the south. Which brings me to... Lil' Wayne: Don't let the name and swagger fool you, this guy is, by his and many other's decree, the best rapper alive. His flow, delivery, voice, freestyle ability, and lyrics are all perfect. And even if he often references making and dealing cocain, he's songs still have some of the best lyrics around. E-40/Keak Da Sneak/The Pack: Three Hyphy artists from Oakland California. They may not be the best lyricists or anything, but their music definetly makes you move. Dance, go Hyphy, go Dumb, whatever you want to call it. Don't be confused by their references to "Riding the yellow bus" or "Go stupid, dumb dumb...", these guys are just fun to listen to. Influenced by the ecstacy culture along with high energy parties, their music is all trunk-thumpin', foot-stompin', grill-showin', stunna shade showin', Thizz face goodness. Also a little skateboarding from The Pack. Look them all up on YouTube.

optiplex1990
I recomend Bullets and Octane they came out a few months ago with a new album i think they are pretty good, you should give them a try.
Roleni-Chan
Im not good in keeping track on what just came out. I listen to thrash, Death, Black meat and when I put in your perspective, I will give you three recommendations: .Testament .Overkill .Slayer If not, then the Beatles ^^! TimeChaser
For metal, I agree with 2007DigitalBoy - Dream Theater is an amazing band. Also good for rock. If you want something that's really heavy, In Flames is another great band. For electronica, I just discovered a great band - The Echoing Green. Unfortunately most of what I listen to I have to order off the internet, but if you're capable of and willing to do that, some other good bands: ROCK Enchant, Queensryche, Spock's Beard, The Tea Party. METAL Kamelot, Machinae Supremacy, Threshold, Vanden Plas, Vision Divine.

And yes, Trivium is terrible. I'll definately second the Agalloch reccomendation, seeing as they are absolutely amazing. Ulver is also pretty cool. They started as a black metal band, but now they're playing avantgarde/atmospheric/ambient/industrial/art-rock rediculousness. Their latest album, "Blood Inside", is absolutely fantastic. Cicatrice Du Adieu
So far I don't like The Mars Volta. I'm still unsure about Dream Theatre and Opeth. I think i liked a song or two from Isis and Agolloch. I love coheed and cambria.

Kenshin DX
Midicroncia is one of the best experimental groups around. Their music is just plain weird but really good. None of their songs sound the same which is why i cant stand mainstream music. Also check out Jinn another unique group.
DaSilva
The White Stripes - Even More Awesome/Garage Louis XIV - Just Plain Awesome/Garage/Indie Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Indie/Expiremental Rilo Kiley - Indie The Fiery Furnaces - Expiremental/Indie Those are the big 5 bands that I like. I'm into a lot of other stuff too, but these are the ones I'm listening to right now. McClusky is also really good, The Smashing Pumpkins are good but I'm sure you've heard them by now. And lastly, if you like folk at all, try some Devendra Banhart.

Fyxe
For metal... I'd recommend Moonspell, Scar Symmetry (This is a GREAT melodic death metal band. I can't get enough of their stuff.), and maybe Arch Enemy For lighter things... If you like Kill Hannah, I think you might enjoy Clear Static. They have a heavy '80s influence, and they pull it off pretty well. I also second Shiny Toy Guns, I love those kids. Dragonette is also a great powerpop/rock group. You can find all of these bands on MySpace, if you care to sample. (Oh yeah... you like Porcelain and the Tramps... you are officially awesome. ;))

If you have to go with melo-death, stick with Insomnium, Kalmah, Dark Tranquillity, and old-school In Flames (basically, anything before Clayman or Reroute to Remain).
