Aberinkula
Okay in my last OB Anthology thread I asked if researching book styles would help my writing. I was also pointed out to make a poll asking about people's favorite genre of stories. So Lord of Terror I've decided to do just that. Everybody, what genre do you favor most when you read on the OB, or in real life? Answer truthfully by poll and post. Explain what genre you like, and why you like it. Plus if it's alright with the mods, tell me the genre of RP you like to play in the Creative Writing forum.Thank you!

2010DigitalBoy
It really depends with me. As with most things, I am increadibly picky about books. My favorite book of all time, Boogiepop Phantom, could be considered a psychological thriller I guess. That'd prolly be my favorite genre. I voted for Fantasy, though. There aren't a lot of fantasy book that catch my attention, mostly because they tend to be so cliche, but I've always been a fan of fantasy in general (I dress up as elves and orcs and the like and run around my backyard with big swords.)Vampire Hunter D (the first one since te second one was SO bad I decided to not buy the rest) was a pretty good fantasy story even if the writer was a power abuser. I guess I'm just a fan of certain novels.
Tekkaman
For me, adventure takes the cake, fantasy and comedy getting the consolation prizes. If you look at my RP/SPAR with BKstyles and company, Sinister Nation, that was nothing but good ol' action in mercenary format right there. Of course, Citius Altius Fortius -- made by Matt (Doublehex) -- was a great RP as well and it was purely fantasy with a dash of comedy.
Boo
I didn't vote in the poll because my vote wouldn't really represent my taste. On my shelf, I have quite a bunch of books of Raymond E. Feist and a few of Terry Pratchett. They are great writers and I really enjoy experiencing their worlds. However, like DigitalBoy, not a lot of fantasy books catch my attention because they're too cliché. For me, fantasy as a genre is only good when the writer is great. There has to be a strong storyline and original characters to be able to keep my attention. There are too many fantasy writers that actually can't write at all, so they just put half naked women on the cover. Instead, I'd like to mention that I enjoy historical novels and a bit psychological novels. The writers of such books mostly know what they're talking about and/or done research around their subject. The books are enjoyable to read, they get you thinking and often you also learn something of them.
Rachmaninoff
Hmmm?I can?t really vote in the poll either. I do tend to favor Sci-Fi but I also enjoy the other genre?s as well. Probably the only one I don?t care for would be Horror. For the simple reason it?s so overdone and predictable. Authors like Stephen King are no fun since once you?ve read one book; you?ve read them all. And the few times I?ve tried reading horror the old clichéd villain that won?t die or is practically invincible always seems to show up. The other one that is my least favorite is mysteries, I do enjoy watching them but I find them rather dry and dull to actually read. Adventure is the same as well, I like seeing fight scenes more than I enjoy reading them. So in the end I enjoy Sci-Fi the best and then Fantasy and comedy. The others I do enjoy but more in a format of watching than reading. As for what type of RP I like to play, that?s a little harder since I haven?t been here very long. I?ve only been part of two, one I am already done with the Survivor four that is currently running and though it was fun I am not bothered that I am out of the game so to speak because to be honest the Sci-Fi one I?m still in [Silver One] has been more entertaining for me. Dagger
This is a difficult question to answer because writing & story always trump genre. If anything, the best work tends to defy being lumped in a single category. ~Dagger~
White Akita
To tell the honest truth, I really don't care about the subject of the storyline, as long as it keeps my interest. I can't vote honestly because I've read Stephen King's stories, to War and Peace....I do have a lot of Horror and Fantasy on my shelves, but like I said, I have ?Canterbury Tales? and ?Les Miserables? as well as Plato... Really anything that will make me think a little bit (I am especially fond of poetry). ^_^'
