Gelgoog Pilot
So, I'm back from my long vacation from the forums, and I was curious to know what any of you thought of the old apartment life. I've been doing it for about two years and I think I've had some unique experiences. Some not so great but that's what makes the whole thing all the more fun. Right now my day starts out with either my alarm sounding on my night stand or the shouts of our neighbors. Which ever happens to wake me up first. See, they have these two teenage daughters that seem to love rebelling. I can't blame then everyone should go through that stage in life...it's pretty interesting. However, waking me up on a Friday morning BEFORE 10 a.m.( I don't have classes on Friday) doesn't put me in a good mood. It's usually a resounding "GET UP ALREADY!" followed quickly by a shrill "GET OFF MY BACK I'M UP!". :animeangr Here's some perspective, we have paper thin walls. With the way my bed is situated, my head is right next to our ajoining wall. I can pretty much hear everything. Sometimes it just plain fun, I love to observe people, listening in on conversations included. Other times, I'd love to just shout back to get them to shut up, and wonder just why I did that. Another fine example is that whenever the parents are gone from the house, our own apartment( I live win three frineds of mine) shakes from their speakers. I swear to God they must have them facing the wall sometimes. Actually, this brings to mind a funny story. My roommate Justin and I were down in the basement when the bass could suddenly be felt. I mean it was really loud. We usually put up with it since we're all pretty loud sometimes too. Well, Justin started to get angry over it since it was just so loud it was obnoxious. We have a radio transmitter for...purposes that rarely arise, and we decided to listen in on the off chance our teenage neighbor was listening to a radio station. So we sat there, ears to the wall when finally it came. SHe had been listening to the radio! Quickly we set up the frequency to somewhat act like that of the station. Since our antenna is closer it would pick that one up over the radio stations, especially if we tunned it just right. Once we got our frequency all sorted out Justin set up his laptop to run a pornoghraphic movie he happened to have sitting in a folder(don't ask). Once that transmitter was turned on you could hear the mahem in the next room. The sound of curse words and trampling of feet down stairs got us laughing so hard. Needless to say she didn't turn on her radio for at least a couple of days later, still trying to figure out why moaning had suddenly flooded the air waves. I've got plenty of more stories...but I'd rather hear everyone else's experiences. Do tell.
Cat
Well on the weekends my neighbors like to blast their music. The thing is the live up stairs, so when their stero is on then all the walls move thoughout the apartment. The music they listen to I happen to hate because I don't like hip hop to much and when It starts at around 8 something in the morning you tend to be upset. What I do is I turn up my stero or tv with rock music and make sure its loud enough for them to hear it. This will go on for hours until I put on some music with the tons swear words. They then stop and I stop my music as the winner. As a award I get whatever time is left for peace and quiet.
Whiteblaze
Well, I generally think appartent life is cozy in a lack of more than ample space sort of way. Hands down, appartment complexes make some of the best playing grounds for hide and seek/cops and robbers/tag, I tell ya. Also, many fun adventures and make shift activites can be had. The people at the one where I lived when I was little half way tried not to run over other people's kids so it was pretty safe to play in the street. XD Yeah, I remember the good old days when some neighbors of ours used to play that one Dido song. They would play it real loud, but it didn't bother me because I liked that song.
Panda
Apartment life makes me think of college and completely destroying my old couch by smashing it into a million pieces so I could fit it into the dumpster so I wouldn't have to move it. That thing was so old and it was kinda fun to totally trash a couch like a rock star would thrash a hotel room. I should have heaved it off the balcony... that would have been so cool. I really did like that apartment. Apartment B-308. It was nice and as Whiteblaze mentioned - apartments are cozy. I was on the third floor and I had super quite neighbors all around me. Either that or that apartment complex actually had good sound insulation. I had a sweet little kitchen with a breakfast bar. There was the one big rectangle room which was the dining room/living room. I only used the breakfast bar since putting a table and chairs in there would eat up too much space. On the far wall was a small balcony with a nice view of the parking lot. Which really was nice since I could peek out at my car to make sure it was still there! There was a small hallway. Which had three doors. One directly to the left was a large storage room. Straight ahead the bathroom and to the right the one bedroom. The one and only window had the same view as the balcony. The plus to living in an apartment is when something breaks, like the stove or fridge, you just call for someone to come up and fix it. Landscaping is maintained by the apartment staff. There was also a nice hot tub, swimming pool and sauna. Yeah you don't get much space but those were nice little perks. As a homeowner I get more space but I have to make sure everything is maintained. Gotta mow the law, pay someone to fix the broken appliances and no more hot tub, sauna or pool. I really miss the hot tub. One thing I definitely don't miss is lugging all my laundry and supplies down to the basement to do laundry. One time I went down there and it smelled like burning rubber. Another person who also came into the laundry room helped me look for what was causing the stink. We found that someone had left their clothes in one of the dryers and something on one of the articles of clothing had melted. Not sure if it was like one of those plastic knobby things that are on drawstrings or what but it was melted right onto the dryer. The other person and I just got our laundry done and left before the owner of the melted clothes ever came back. I wonder if they ever came back for their melted clothing. Hanabishi Recca
I once lived in an apartment and it was a mostly black neighbourhood. Nothing bad with that, but it was seriously alot of women yelling for no reason. My closest neighbours were a black family (it had four rooms in a complex). They had two young girls that were really ignorant. It was about 9 o' clock in the morning an d they were right outside our door talking really freaking loud. My brothers thought of this great idea that we should take a watergun we had, fill it up with hella cold water and let it loose on them. So, we cracked up our window by our front door and shot them. Of course, they screamed, but they never did that again. So, more about the neighbourhood. There were many black kids there that we played football with. I think that is one of the reasons I don't exactly hate black kids in general. So, this was about the worst place to live in. Even though the rent was low, the police where there every night. I was really young when I was there. But, I didn't have to say, I remember it really well. I once busted myself open because I was afraid of my brother. He wanted to have some fun and fight with me (well, wanted me to block his punches). I turned my head and busted my head open. Right above my eye. I ran outside (because thats where my Mother was) and yelled, "Mom!" and she was like, "Wait a second, honey.". Then I said, "Mom! I'm bleeding!" and she looked and was like, "*gasp*". She ran inside and helped me with my cut. It ended up that my up-stairs neighbour had some butterfly bandaids and she gave us some so I could close it up. It was nice to have some neighbours though. Guest NIKI12345
See I never lived in a appartment but like whats his name said I have always had a close bond with blacks and even though I wasn't black when I was little I thought I was and so I scared my parents that way. Here is a vid that kind of talks about what I ment. Oh yeah I did live in this fancy appartment above this famous ice cream shop in Turkey. It was nice but I don't remember much about it because I was 1 years old. Here is that video. My life was alomost excatly like this just I wasn't the white kid. Drifting soul
As it happens, I just got back from visiting my sister's student flat (British word for apartment). It's really basic student accomodation. The flat is made up of 5 seperate rooms, one for each student, a shared kitchen and 2 bathrooms. It's small, dingy and dirty but I could happily call it home! For some odd reason the thing I liked about my sister's room was it over looked the car park which was surrounded by 4 blocks of flats so you could see everyone who was coming and going. I know it's pretty strange that I like really small things like that. As for actually living, me and my little sister sleeping on the floor took up what little space there was but after living in a house and being bugged by my family for 18 years I actually like the idea of having all your worldly possessions in a small space where you can always reach them. I discovered that having good flat mates and neighbours is all down to luck. Sis's flatmates were all very nice and 'well behaved' and we had no problems with neighbours keeping us up (the airport nearby did that instead) but there were some very noisy people outside with music blasting that could be heard down in the street. Well I've never actually lived in an apartment so I can't offer as much insight but that's the viewpoint of someone who's just had a glimpse at it. Whiteblaze
Drifting soul, where your sister lives is actually more like a dorm. But then dorms are nothing more than shrunken(overpriced) appartments!
As it happens, I just got back from visiting my sister's student flat (British word for apartment). The dorm I stayed in during summer school gave me a good view of the little court yard several buildings surrounded and I liked watching the people from my window, during the day and also at night. It's the small things in life I tend to find much joy in.
