Your Supergroup

[COLOR=DarkOrange]If you could form a supergroup, who would be in it and why? here's the rules: no more than 6 band members, and no more than 2 from the same band. Talk about who plays what, and what they sound like.

mine would be... [B]The Nameless Conglomerate[/B]

[B]Vocals/ Guitarist [/B] - [B]Mikael Akderfelt [/B] ([B]Opeth[/B]) - i love this guys voice utterly. he;s got the best of prog and the best of death metal all mixed into one. Plus he can olay guitar well.

[B]Lead Guitar [/B] - [B]Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez [/B] ([B]the Mars Volta[/B]) - This guy can make just about any sort of strange ambient noise with his guitar, plus he can shred and lay out a totally awesome salsa melody. He's a brilliant composer and has a totally wicked afro. What's not to love?

[B]Secondary Guitar/ Vocals [/B] - [B]Claudio Sanchez [/B] ([B]Coheed And Cambria[/B]) - Another great voice that is distinct enough for some great vocal harmony between him and Mikael. He may not be the fastest guitarist or most technical, but he's come up with some of my alltime favorite riffs, so he gets to be in. Plus he can rock an acoustic.

[B]Bass/ Vocals [/B] - [B]Peter Steele [/B] ([B]Type O Negative[/B]) - Once again, his voice could work well with the other guys as it is very distinct, and he is a great bassist, seeing as how most of Type O's music is bass oriented. He would add the gothi edge to their sound.

[B]Drums [/B] - [B]Danny Carey [/B] ([B]Tool[/B]) - Danny is an astounding technical drummer with, to put it simply, mad skillz. He can play fast and sound amazing, and that's just what my supergroup needs.

[B]Synthesizer/ Other strange instruments/ Vocals [/B] - [B]Arjen Lucassen [/B] ([B]Ayreon[/B]) - Arjen can play pretty much any instrument, and he plays just about every one on his Ayreon albums. Wether it be maniacal keyboards, violin melodies, or the magical didgeridoo, he can do it all. Plus his voice has that sort of eighties flare which any band can use.

[B]Their sound[/B]: Naturally, this band would be uber-prog-rock-opera-super-epic. They'd be focused on creating technical, explosive, and beautifully composed music. In the spirit of prog, their music would be fast and heavy at times, while softer at others. Sometimes they could have big heavy death-metal music, then at others tone it into a more dragged-out goth sound with deep and crazy riffs. Mikael and Claudio could break out the acoustics sometimes and rock a poetic verse or two as well.

I only hope their creative ppersonalities don't collide (seeing as how Claudio, Omar, and Arjen all write all the music in their respective bands.)[/COLOR]

Vocals: Lars Nedland (Asmegin, Borknagar, Solefad)

Vocals/Guitar: Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth, Bloodbath)

Lead Guitar: Jari Maenpaa (Wintersun, Ensiferum)

Drums: Kai Hahto (Wintersun)

Keyboards: Henri Sorvalli (Moonsorrow, Finntroll)

Bass: Marco Hietala (Tarot, Nightwish)

Their Sound: Progressively-edged epic Viking metal. Huge, long songs that span a multitude of soundscapes with lots of accoustic/folk/mellow breaks. Lars Nedland would provide the epic layered choir-style vocals, while Mikael would provide the more soothing, melodic vocal lines as well as the harsh vocals. Jari Maenpaa would contribute his virtuosic leads and searing melodies, and perhaps some backing vocals as well. Kai Hahto is self-explanatory - the guy is incredible. Henri Sorvalli would basically drench the music in epic, and Marco Hietala would thunder along with his mad bass skillz (as well as providing backing vocals).

So basically, there'd be tons of vocal harmonies, melodic guitar work, epic Viking atmosphere, and diverse songs all with a progressive tinge to give it that unique edge.

Sound: It'd be like Pretty Girls Make Graves' old material, but with better musicians, pretty much. I think part of this is that I would absolutely love hearing my three favorite guitarists go at it. I don't think any other band had three guitars dueling eachother. :)

I don't really know any awesome bassists without going back and listening for one, so I put in Nick because I really respect him. He has a lot of onstage energy. Also, Justin is probably the most interesting drummer ever. He was amazing in Neil Perry, but when they split up and he joined ALOL, he was kind of bland. So yeah, I want him drumming like her did in Neil Perry.[/font][/size]

[b]Sound[/b]: The Peaches en Regalia (as they would be named) would have a pretty sick sound. With guys like Anderson, Zappa, and Zevon, it's going to have a very quirky, sarcastic edge to it, but it will also be very crisp thanks to the genius that is Scholz. The flute will play a key role in many of their songs, but they will also have a quite a few guitar solos thanks to Zappa. Graham provides his earthy, funky bass lines to keep everything in line. Colaiuta is there for two reasons - Neil Peart was otherwise engaged, and he is mentioned in that song Catholic Girls... and that song rules![/COLOR][/SIZE]

Thundering basslines, including numerous bass fills and solos from Mr Entwistle, and complex vocal harmonies from Mercury, and filled in by Gilmour, Entwistle and McKenna. Thrown into the mix for a little light relief and some fun drumming, Carlos De La Garza would provide energetic, upbeat drum lines.

Sound: Chino has an amazing, heartfelt voice, and Matthew Bellamy sounds like a perfect harmonizer. David Gilmour is the greatest emotional player on earth. Victor Wooten can coax some of the most amazing basslines and Zach Hill is so fast, technical and complex, a perfect compliment to the slower or more emotional vocals/ guitar of Moreno and Gilmour, respectively. Owens plays jazzy, swirling lines on the keyboard, and Muirs' different percussion instruments could provide the best textures to finish off this group.[/size][/color]

Specialist- Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits, Solo)

Drums- Keith Moon (The Who)


Music Amidst the Mud brings old rock sensability, character maturity and a vast breadth of performance experience. Moon and Manzarek provide stimulating rhythm as well as the potential for explosive solos that will drive and hold up the entire machine. Geddy Lee will not sing often, well maybe sometimes, but he'll provide the bottom line required to tie the entire ensemble together. Lindsay Buckingham brings incredible guitar skill as well as decent vocals to MAtM, as well as a deep and powerful creative spark. Plant can sing, well. He's an all around Top Fiver, and he'll give Zeppelin's volatile wailing notes to MatM.

Knopfler can do about everything, especially sing. So between Buckingham, Knopfler, and Plant a massive variety of vocal range and style is covered. And 'ole Geddy can sing if there are a few high notes. As far as an overall sound goes, MAtM definitely shoots for folk inspired metal. Metal in the Zeppelin sense, rather than the newer stuff. However the main point of MAtM is making music for musics sake, crafting songs with such quality and soul that they are beyond price. Beyond the marketing rackets infested with the likes of Britney Spears and Hilary Duff. Beyond MTV.

MAtM isn't about crazy sales records, its about making music so well that it inspires and lasts for generations.
