The Alabaster Cup {M-V}

The Enemy

Two days still remained before the tournament. The streets of the mighty city Illiorn were full of bustling peasants, royal knights and salesmen of all kinds. The tournament drew thousands of spectators and since the sign up acceptants were secret, anyone on the street could be your most dangerous competition. For that everyone in the area tended to have an extremely kind and giving demeanour, as to not upset any future enemies.

Morty was walking down the streets admiring any new faces and new weapons he saw for their beauty. He grinned though only he knew it, his armour covered his face entirely, as it was supposed to. He did his best to not speak to anyone for a few reasons, one was that he wanted to hide his elven accent, another was that he didn't want to make anyone suspicious of him or angry at him.

Fortunately he fit in despite his full armour, many knights and guards were walking the streets of people, also completely armoured and armed. Nothing mischievous would happen in the next couple of days, for no one knew who to poison to get rid of combatants. Unless that is, someone was brilliantly skilled enough to get passed the heavily guarded front room of the castle adorning the center square, and sneak into the records room to see who were accepted.
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
OK the deal is-the tournament hasn't exactly started yet, so those who still want to join can, but only until someone notes the tournament starting in the square, no one is accepted after it starts. You can still sign up, but as an observer or a coach or something not a contestant. But to repeat myself, anyone can sign up as a contestant, until the tournament actually starts, so read the posts in the square before making a character.
Atello Hasting rode into the city nudging past the throngs of people, most of whom scuried out of the way of the large horse. One particularly well dressed chap desided to be stuck up and snobish and ignored the horse and rider, standing right in their path. Attello waited patiently, straitening up in the saddle.
"Nice day." he said absently, the noble attempted to put off the ackwardness overcoming him. Attello looked strait at the side of the man's head, the horse snifed impatiently. "Now Roger, the man obviously has business at this shop, let him be." Attello smiled. The noble looked at him sidelong, then scuried off with his bruised pride.
The knight led his horse to a stable near the center of the city, aproaching the young boy watching over the place he removed four gold peices from his pouch and offered them to the boy under handed, "Watch this horse boy, and I'll pay you one gold coin every day more that he is in your care." The boy's eyes widened as the offer sunk in, and he nodded quickly.
Attello dismounted and handed the riegns to the boy, "Thank you sir, best of care for em sir! Or my name aint Robbin"
"Well is your name Robbin?"
The boy looked slightly confused, "Oh, aye sir, that's my name!" The boy smiled and led the horse away.
"Now, to find an inn in the one city the whole world is visiting."
As Morty strode the stony streets he came across several inns which were full of reservations already, he sighed and continued looking. Eventually he spotted a large sign in the window of an in which read "ROOMS OPEN!! ANY SPECIES ACCEPTED!!" And so Morty smiled softly and walked in. The inn keeper at the front desk was a half-orc male. He stood nearly 7 feet tall and had shoulders as broad as a house. Mort chuckled to himself as he saw the interesting fellow and casually made his way to the counter.
"'ow many?" growled the half orc, with a thick accent. "One please." Morty replied, trying to hide his elven accent. "You sound a li'le funny for a human." said the half-orc. Morty frowned under his helmet and began explaining but the half orc cut him off with "Human quaters are 10 gold per room, you haf'a pump 'ur own water and make a fire on 'ur own if you want one." Morty nodded and smiled as he removed his helmet and spoke letting his full accent roam free.
"I am no human good sire." he began, his voice drifted threw the air like a melody of silver notes and tones "You're kind sign spoke of accepting all, I am of the elves." In an instant the half-orc berated himself for being so rude. "I am sorry master elf, I did not realize my actions." he said, now trying to make his accent seem normal and formal. "No hard done fair inn keeper. Now, please re-tell what rooms you have available." The orc looked threw a large book and finally listed "We have a fine sweet in room for'y two. Ready made flame, running wa'er and all. Food comes as well."
Morty smiled and handed the half-orc 10 gold coins. "No master elf, a room for you would not be 'alf that." Morty pushed the money closer to the half-orc across the counter and said "Please kind sir, it is a token of my thanks for your hospitality." Then the half-orc took the coins and handed a rough key to Morty, who then preceded to his new room to accommodate himself. He entered the sweet, it was a clean room with recently bleached walls and a finely carved fire place with wood, tinder, and some flint and steel to start a fire. Morty stood at his window with his helmet on again and adored the passers-by as they got interested in the knight watching over them.
Akari was doing her daily business with one of her daily clients. He walked in saying, "Can you tell me who will the Alabaster Cup this year? If not then that's okay."
"Well let's see," she said as she pulled out some tarot cards from the back. She came back and sat down. She shuffled the cards and laid them out in the order according so. One on top. Two in the second row. Three in the middle. Two in the fourth row. And one at the bottom. She then closed her eyes and said to the man, "Repeat after me. Cards of Power, Hear my Plea."
-"Cards of Power, Hear my Plea."
"Show to me the winner of the Alabster Cup to me."
-"Show to me the winner of the Alabster Cup to me."
Akari opened her eyes and said, "Pick that card up." As she pointed to the top card. He did as he was told and the card was Silent. She then said, "This card says that you are not to know and neither am I or anyone else to know who will win the Alabaster Cup."
She then flipped the two in the second row and the two cards were Shadow and Fight. "Hmmmm... very interesting. It seems that the Alabaster Cup is a test of strength and courage."
She then flipped the middle row over and the cards were Wave, Voice and Lock. "Another interesting trio. This says that the Voice will be called and it will be picked up like fire. But the secrects will be locked about the terrible disaster."
Akari looked at the time and said, "Time's up. Now that will be 25 gold coins for an hour. Hope to see you again soon." She waved goddbye as her client left and closed her shop. Hmmm. It looks like this Alabaster Cup is pretty important. I'll enter myslef before the deadline meets the end.
Akari walked outside in the streets with her cloak on and went to the place where you could sign up for the Alabaster Cup.
Attello sighed as he entered the first inn he had seen with vacancies. The Half orc at the counter nodded at him, "Looken for a room?" He asked.
"That I am sir, or more likely a roof of some sort, whats underneath makes little difference to me." Attello replied, he was aware that the prices in these inns would be higher than usuall, but he was also aware that he could find a fine place to sleep any ware in the city, for free, the street was not at all unwelcoming to him, though it was not as forgiving as the open country.
"That'll be ten gold coins, and pump 'ur own water, burn 'ur own fire." The half orc said, obviously this was an establishment that did not look highly of humans.
"Ten gold coins, I'd have guess less for one who protects the realms." Attello replied casually. The half orc srugged in a 'well thats the price' sort of way. Attello smiled, "I'm sure I could get similar accomidations with my horse, and the pay for my stable is not a tenth this price." The half orc was caught off gaurd by this. Most of the wealthier folks in town wouldn't even have nightmares about sleeping in the stables, but here was a man, a knight however simple, who proposed to do just that.
"Well, um, I suppose, I may have a nicer room, water and fire provided, but the price'd be the same." The cleark stumbled threw the deal, and Attello knew he had hooked him in.
"Make it six, and I'll buy you a round at the bar, your choice." Attello said putting on a friendly face. The cleark nodded in agreement and quickly checked off another room. He found the key and handed it to Attello.
"I'll not be fergetting that drink any time soon mind ye." He said as his hand let the key drop into Attello's, "And my tasts is not of a low priced brew either."
Attello nodded, "Right, what ever your bar man serves is up for offer." The cleark nodded, quite content with the deal he had made, the inn had lost a few gold coins, but he had gained a few drinks and he could see the good in that.
As Attello made his way to his room he noticed a fully armored knight entering his another room, it struck him as odd but he pushed the thought away. 'To each his own, let him hide what he will' he thought and entered his room. finally a respite from travel, a bed to lay on, fire he didn't have to make, and water he didn't have to find. He could rest for now, atleast untill the games began.
A stone was thrown, hitting the already bruised and beaten No-omi in the ankle. She had never been around this many poeple before. She was uncertain of their reaction to her so she just figured that they would be fine with her their, espeisially since their were many breeds here that were much more grusome than herself. She was wrong.
She heard their shouts calling her a blastphemy, an abomnination, A demon. She heard every threat and felt every stone hit her body. She had never dealt with this before. all she could do was run. She winded around the corner, two men after her, one burly and big the other thin and nimble.
A stone hit the back of her neck sending her to the ground. They walked to her body. She lay still. They left after assuming she was dead. When their footsteps faded she curled up into a feetle position and cryed softly to herself, cuts and bruises and scrapes and words all drowning her. She wanted to die, she wanted death here, now, right outside the window of the inn room 42.
Morty saw the entire event conspire against the defenceless half-dragon. He frowned and opened his window, then simply stepped out. He landed with a soft thud, but his armour was surprisingly silent, elven craft was not to be made loud or unpleasant. He walked over to the crying girl and kneeled down to her, she didn't seem to notice at first, then she recoiled when he tried to touch her shoulder. Morty tilted his head and sighed sadly.
Then with some effort he picked the girl up, she squirmed and almost screamed before he let go, allowing her to stumble to her feet. She glared at him angrily but said nothing, her cheeks still stained with tears. Morty looked up to his window and whispered just loud enough for the girl to hear "You're hurt, please give me the joy of helping you back to health before the tournament, I'm not sure you're participating but it would be a shame to even watch such an event in the pain you feel."
She looked away and cried more. "Please come with me." he said, holding out his hand. She took it and he grinned. "Let-let me see your face first." she said quietly and scared, not sure what he was. He looked around then spoke "In my room I will, too many spectators here." She nodded contently and followed him to his room. Once inside he removed his helmet and revealed his sharp elven features. While she stared helplessly at his elven grace he said "Let's start a fire shall we?" and he began striking the flint and steel against each other, to make sparks fall on the tinder.
As the elven man setthe fire No-omi limped into the corner, leaning against the wall and slumping down into a feetle position. She hugged her legs and rested her head on her knees, her wings folded behind her and her tail curled around her feet.
The elf finished with the fire and walked to her. He kneeled in front of her and looked at her for a while. she looked up at him after a bit. He looked into her eyes. He smiled seeing her eyes were different colors. They were both slitted like a cat's but one was amber while the other was a striking silvery-blue color.
He reached over to take the mask off her face and she flinched backward. He paused and she removed the mask herself. He shifted and sat next to her quietly.
"We should fix some of those wounds, shouldn't we?" the elven man said smileing.
Morty smiled and said "Are you afraid of magic?" the girl shook her head and said "No" he then said "My name is Motralivander" He chuckled to himself as she tried to repronounce the elven name. "Morty" he said grinning. "Well if you don't mind I'll fix you up." He focussed for a moment and kneeled in front of her again, holding his palms toward her "Dayuel swualt researstrictos yoyanai." he spoke thick elfish as golden like radiated from his hands to her.
Her smaller cuts and bruises healed instantly, while some other darker bruises and deep cuts merely got lighter or closed up a small bit. "I am sorry but that's all I can do." She looked herself over and then back at Morty, he was simply still smiling and admiring his work and her. "I shall fetch some food." he said as he stood and walked over to a crate of dried breads and cheese, eventually he found a steel box filled with meats and salty ice,, so he made up some sandwiches.
"Please, eat up" he said "It's not poisoned or anything, honestly. She looked at him suspiciously and he raised his hands defensively "If I wanted to kill you I'd have done it before now, or I'd have left you outside, now you need nourishment, please eat."
No-omi took the food from him and hesitantley ate it. She slowly reached for more, scared of being denied more of the food but Morty pushed more into hr hands and encouraged her to eat. She scarrfed it down quickly.
He had one himself, eating at a slower pace. By the time morty was done with his one, no-omi had finished three more. He looked up at the half dragon girl.
"What, may i ask, is your name?" He questioned her politley.
"No-Omi" She spoke softly.
"That is a very nice name" He complimented.
She didn't respond. After some time she looked up at him and starred at him in amazment. Morty looked at her softly.
"I have never seen one likr yourself before." She said looking into his eyes.
"I see," He said still looking at her. She went speechless and continued to stare.
She had found where to sign up and said, "I'd like to sign up for the Alabaster Cup please."
The men nodded and let her enter. She walked inside and then found the table on where to sign. She went over to the table and signed her name, age, ability, race, and more info about herself. When Akari was done, she left the place and set off for her house. She only came into town for business and now she was able to go home. But today wasn't an ordinary day, so she decided to sleep in her store for the night. Akari was too tired to walk all the way to the forest where she lived and decided to sleep in town to see what happens when she isn't there.
As Zane was traveling, he entered a new town. Streets were busy, markets adn inns were full, adn all around people were hurrying to get to were they needed to be. Zane walked aroun for a little while until he saw a remote pub. He entered the pub and Sat down at the bar.
"What'll it be?" The bar tender asked.
"Something cold. Doesn't matter what." Zane replied. The bar tender came back with the drink and placed it on the table. Zane nodded in thanks. After taking a few sips from his drink, he asked the bar tender whre he might be able to get some gold and a room.
"Well as for the room, I got an empty one upstairs for two gold per night. You'll have to get your own fire, water, and food. And the gold, all the jobs in this town are pretty much taken." The bar thender replied.
"Are you sure that there aren't any open positions?"
"Well there is the Alabater Cup."
"What's that?"
"You mean to tell me that you've never heard of the Alabaster Cup?"
"Can't say that I have."
"Well sir, it's only the single most popular tournament this side fo the sea. It involves archery, jousting, fighting, and a large sum of gold. If you win that is. Midn you, it's mighty dangerous. Lethal even."
Zane was silent for a moment. Then he asked:"And where might one sign up for this 'Alabaster Cup'?"
"Duke?s Mansion Estate, sir."
"I see. Well I'd like to book a room. But you may have to wait until after I win the tournament until I can pay you in full. Is that alright?"
"Yes sir. I'll pu it all on a tab. Including that drink of yours."
"Much abliged. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go to the Duke's Mansion Estate."With that Zane stood up, and exited out the back door.
Once outside, Zane found himself in an alleway. He looked to his side and saw three men standing in a semi-circle kicking and stepping on something. Zane walked up to the three men. "What exactly is going on here?" He asked. The men stopped what they were doing and turned to face Zane. The one in the middle was the first to speak. Apparently this one was there leader."This ere's an elf." He said, stepping aside to show Zane.
"I see,"Zane said."And why, might I ask are you attacking this elf?"
"His kind ain't got no right to be 'ere." The left one spoke up.
"Yeah. These are human parts." The first one agreed.
Zane stared at the leader for a few moments. Then, with two fingers pointed outward, he struck the man in his Adam's Apple. The man fell to his knees, holding his throat, and gasping for breath. Zane hit him in the bridge of his nose with his kneecap. The leader fell over and rolled onto the ground.
The second one lashed out at Zane with his fist but Zane ducked, grabbed the man's arm, and pulled it over his head sending the man hurling onto the ground to land beside his leader. The third man, having witnessed all of this, ran. Zane turned to the elf, and offered him his hand. The elf accepted it reluctantley, and Zane helped him to his feet."Are you going to be alright?" Zane asked.
"Yeah. I should be good."
"We should get you to a hospital."
"No, it's alright. Really. My family has many things to help treat wounds and injuries"
"Alright. Well, take care of yourself." Zane said. And with that, he left to go find Duke's Mansion Estate.
On the way home Akari followed a human to the allyway. She saw what he had done for the elf and kept herself hidden. As the elf passed by her, he said, "Good evening madam witch. What are you still doin' in this part of town? Aren't you to be getting home before the gates closed tis' evening?"
"No. I've decided to stay here the night at my store and see what happens when I'm not here in the town. Plus, that man helped you and I'm thinking of talking to him in a gratitude of thanks for our kind," Akari replied.
"All right ma'am. Just make sure to come back to the forest when your business is done here." The elf bowed and went back to the forest with his family.
Interesting human to help an elf like that. I want to see why he is here really. Dosen't look like one of the people I've seen here before. I also want to ask the men that beat up that poor elf. Akari thought and then left to go look for the man. She then found him in the Duke's Mansion Estate. Of course, she's been here before and decided to wait outside until he came out.
After he went in, the same men that were beating up the elf were out looking for the man, so she assumed. "Where is that guy? I want to give him a piece of my mind. He has no right to beat us up, the Madabachi Trio," said the leader.
"Yeah, I want to give him some of his ouwn medicine," said the other.
"He can't just diss out name and right of this town. But we first have to find him," said another looking around.
Attello sighed as he setteled himself onto the bed, undoing the leather straps that held the plates of steel to his boots he slipped the armor off and let it fall to the floor. His feet hurt, and he was glad to have the restaining weight off of them. He didn't really need the guards in the tournament, but he liked to go prepared, besides they could come in handy when fighting on foot just as well as horse back.
He shifted his body up and unstrapped his chest plate, setting it carefully to the side. "Oh the simplicity of war." he sighed as he breathed a deep breath, alowing his ribs to expand unrestained. "I don't see how the heavy calvary can do it, that armor is twice as heavy as this atleast, course they sit up there and swing away, not much speed needed." Attello smiled as he spoke to himself, "Poor horses."
Finally he stood, wearing leather leggings and a cotton shirt. He made his way to the door, intent on buying the cleark his drink and finding himself a few mugs of his own.
He found the cleark just giving his duties to a younger worker. "Ah, you, come to pay up ave you?" the half orc called. Attello nodded and motioned toward the bar, "Good, I like a man who pay's his due quick like." The two sat at the bar and ordered their first drinks.
Morty stared back at No-omi, for what seemed like an eternity they gazed into each others eyes. Morty broke the silence. "So, where were you from?" No-omi replied a strange name of an island which Morty had only ever heard of. They spent hours talking about themselves and asking each other about themselves. It was roughly midnight when No-omi dosed off, she was laying on the bed talking to Morty and he walked away to get some drinks, when he came back she was out cold.
Morty grinned and pulled a blanket over her, then laid down next to the bed himself and went to sleep. He had only slept a few hours when a slight noise woke him up. He walked outside his room into the hall, and continued to the lobby. What he saw angered his fiercely. He saw a that a group of humans had broken in and were fighting the half orc. The half orc threw one of them into the other and the third man stabbed him in the back.
Morty's eyes burned with fury as he dashed into the fight scene. The half orc had just fallen to the ground when the other two men stood and walked over to him, one drew a sword and stabbed the half orc in the neck before saying "Filthy half breed, how a pure human could ever love and orc...makes me sick." Another human then spoke "Too bad he'd been out drinkin? all night, maybe if the dirt bag were sober he'd put up a decent fight." That's when Morty literally flew into action.
He leapt and landed in the center of the humans. After he hit the ground he realized he had taken off his armour to sleep, and hadn't put it on to investigate the noises. "It's an elf!" said one man, "Get 'im!" called another. The one man holding a sword lunged at Morty, Morty dodged the blade with supernatural speed and grabbed the man's wrist, breaking it. The sword fell, but before it hit the ground Morty snatched the handle and spun the blade vibrantly.
He cut another man's throat then decapitated the one who had previously wielded the sword. The third man, the one who first stabbed the half orc, now drew closer for his attack. He said "I've killed elves before ya' know, you're nothing to me, even your elven blood can't help you now." Upon hearing this Morty was enraged, he cleaved the man from right shoulder to left hip, he would have cut him right in half, but the sword was old and broke off when he reached the man's hip bone.
The man fell to the ground blood spurting all over, there was no chance he was going to live, Morty had torn threw most of his inner organs, 5 ribs, and his spinal cord. Morty then dropped the blade and walked back to his room, to go back to sleep. The tournament's qualifying rounds were the next day, an he did need some rest. He walked into the room and shut the door, then sat down against a wall and hugged his knees while falling into a deep slumber.
No-omi woke up shortly after the door was opened. She watched him enter from the corner of her eyes. She watched as he hugged his knees and fell asleep. No-Omi soon stood and walked over to him, carrieng the blanket. She kneeled next to him and looked him over.
She could smell blood. She didn't question it, even to herself, but just laid the blanket over him and leaned against him. She pulled the blanket over herself as well and fell asleep.
That night she dreamt. As usual she was alone in a baron land. She always went there in her sleep. No-omi knew no one else was here so she walked along the gray,dead ground.
Soon she came to a path . Along the path were thorny bushes. She walked down it. It lead to a shrine. The shrine was formed of Four, enormous slate grey angel statues, all of wich formed a circle. All of wich had their arms extended outward.
What was particullarly strange however was that in the center of the four cracked worn statues was a dragon. The serpentie dragon was aged and white and blind. Chains ran through and around it, restraining it. They fastned around the statues and into the ground.
"He will be the death of you..." It spoke in low growls.
Morty shifted and she woke startled. She soon fell back into a dreamless sleep.
Akari heard what the men had said and went over to them. They saw her and knew that she was a witch. The leader then said, "Looks like the witch stays here after hours. What are you doing here witch? This isn't a place for you to be." The leader than stepped foward and hit her knocking off the hood of her cloak.
She just stood there with a mark on her face and then she turned towards the man with her eyes glowing red and said, "What was that for? Haven't you ever heard that touching a witch when not asked to is very rude? Oh, and the answer to your question, I'm here to teach you guys a lesson!" Akari's eyes were glowing a bright red and the guy just stood there laughing. Akari then went and took off her cloak and brought out her weapons.
Two chain numchuks were in her hands as she went towards the men and slaughtered them. Their blood had covered her face and her clothes. She blood kill battle was over the street. There was nothing left except for the men's clothes and disembodied heads on the ground with blood covering it. Akari put her cloak back on and waited outside for the man to come out when he finished with the sign up for the Alabaster Cup.
Attello had drifted into his room some time during the night, leaving his new and well drunk friend to attend to whatever things a well drunk half orc attends to in the middle of the night. The conversation had been broad, covering topics from the Alabaster Cup random moments of each ones childhood experiances.
The memories faded into each other as Attello thought, he was rather drunk himself, and would more than likely regret the nights activity in the morning.
He fluffed up a pillow and rested his head, staring out the dark window, the fire smoldering a bit casting a soft red glow around the room, sending shadows at strange angles on the walls.
Attello begain to think about the Cup, the different events that would be presented to him, wondering which he had the most chance in, while at the same time silently assuring himself that there were some he would not be able to rise to first in. His thoughts lost themselves quickly as darkness crept over him, at first he thought to stoke the fire so he could see, but then he relized that the fire had not gone out, and with that last thought he fell asleep.
Liir entered the town, the giant lion like man Orthos right beside him towering over him a good foot and a half. Liir wearing a cloak and a white mask with red makings on it that just about covered his face except for his eyes. Still most people would not get a look at this for he has his hood pulled over his face. Orthos insisted upon entering the town wearing no kind of disguise, he was proud of his noble heritage.
"Sir," said Orthos respectively, "Don't you think it is a little early for this, i mean we could wait and prepare this is a major step, and we dont even know if we can grant entry to the castle," Liir glanced at him and then back at the path.
"We are ready and I have waited long enough to strike at this monster, I will not wait any longer," Liir looked straight at Orthos and his red eyes flashed. "And if we can get in we will force our way in,"
"Sir, with all due respect,this is endangering your life and it is my duty to protect you, so I believe that we should turn back now,"
"Orthos I see you as some what of a brother, but you were placed under direct order to not only protect me but to listen to me, now we will have no more speak of this,"
"Yes sir,"
"And for god sakes call me Liir, its not like we have been on the road together for five years," Orthos smiled at Liir and they move along.
Even though Liir was wearing a mask Orthos could tell that He was angry and disgusted at even being inside a "Pure City" the people acted so superior in Liir's eyes, it also angered him the way people feared and hated Orthos and the way he would take the thrown rocks and sour words toward him. Liir has been know to strike out on the people and his singed a few with his flames.
They continued on their unaltered coarse until they reached the castle gates and approached the guards.
"If you wish to sign up for the Alabaster Cup the sign ups are in town not here," said one of the guards in a monotone voice.
"We seek an audience with the king," Liir replied.
"In these turmoiled times the king sees no one outside his noblemen, plus none of his kind are not even supposed to be in town let alone come inside the gate,"
"If that is what you choose," Liir said as he thrust his hands forward shooting flame forth and knocking both guards over, Orthos took the club from his back and knocked each on the head rendering them unconscious. Liir drew his sword and spun around looking to see if any anyone was coming. No one. Liir then pulled out a pouch of black power the bartered for outside of the city. He threw it down against the gate.
They both stood back and Liir held out his hand a flame shot fourth and the bag exploded. the gate a hole just big enough for Liir to fit though. Liir turned to Orthos.
"You know the plan, go to the outskirts of town and wait, if i do not return within daylight, go to our camp and then come back for me in three days," Liir said stoically.
Orthos nodded and sped off. Liir squeezed through the hole and saw three guards waiting for him. They froze, Liir stabbed the first guard and then the other two woke up. One brought a speak forward and Liir parried it with ease and rushed forward stabbing this man too. The second man almost sliced Liir down the middle, but luckily Liir was able to parry and kick the guard aside. He then bathed the guard in flames. The guard started screaming in pure agony.
Liir knew that would bring more guards so he started running. He took a short cut through the servants quarters and he started to hear the clashing of armor as the guards ran to catch up. Liir then saw it the servant door to the throne room.
He ran through it and right as he got on the other side he melted the handle and shot a flame melting the latch shut on the main entrance door. But before he could make another move there were countless swords and spears pointed at him. Liir looked up and saw the King sitting in his throne staring straight at him.
"Well well, the almighty Liir standing right in front of me we have been expecting you my boy," The king said slightly laughing.
Dalen walked through the streets as he looked for a place to stay the night. He had just left the registration for the Alabaster Cup. He had wished that he had come earlier for the city was dangourous this late in the night unlike the daytime where there is too many to people to start anything. As he walked down the street it seemed that he would never find a place to stay the night when he sensed a threat from behind him. He Ducked down as a stone flew over his head and turned to face his advesary.
A man yelled "Die elf" as he swung his sword at Dalen. Dalen stepped back as the blade passed infront of him and released a kick to the mans wrist nocking the sword to the ground. Three more men ran to the location with they're swords drawn.
Dalen said "I am no elf but half" kicking the first man as blocking a sword from another with his wrist gaurd. He rolled to the side as the others attacked dodging they're blows. He grabbed one man as another stabbed thrusting the man onto the blade. He drew his own sword parried 2 blows and spun around slitting on mans gut open causing the man to fall to the ground in pain. He easily blocked one more of the attacks, grabbed the mans arm twisting and throwing him onto the ground riping his shoulder out of place tearing all the tendants. The last oponent dropped his sword as he heard the scream of agony from his friend and quickly was on the ground as Dalen broke his knee with a swift kick.
Dalen walked away from the men in pain on the ground wondering why they always mistaked him for being an elf when he was mearly half, He could easily tell difference as well as most elfs could when up close tho they sometimes mistaked him for being human. He continued looking for a place to stay but sa could not find one he climmed up a housewall and onto the roof and sat down looking at the sky meditating, for it was as good as sleep for him.
Morning broke, the streets were a beehive of movement. Half of the several thousand were running to a large viewing platform near the edge of the estate of the duke, and the other half were gathering in a large dirt ring in the estate itself. They ranged in sizes from the smallest halfling, to the biggest orc. Morty and No-omi woke up late and were running to the tournament arena. No-omi was flying over the town, gliding gracfully and soaring with ease, while Morty was running and leaping from roof top to roof top.
On his way he saw a half elf, Morty's elf eyes could see the man from several dozen roofs away, and could see he was a half breed easily. Moments later Morty jumped and landed next to the half breed. The man jumped to his feet seconds before morty touched down. Morty called forth "Move half breed I'm lte for the alabaster!!" but he spoke elven accidentally. So it came out mostly as "Mortanis kythaan drowes cithara sorven!" which the man clearly only under stood half of as Morty spoke very fast.
Upon realizing this Morty simply repeated in common "MOVE!" the man stepped to the side and looked atthe sun, realizing he was late too. Morty continued and soon enough made it to the arena. Then shortly after No-omi landed next to him with little difficulty. He smiled at her and the Duke began seaking "Hear me, all. The qualifying round is different every decade as shall it be this year. Last standing!! The goal is to stay on your feel, the dirt you stand on is mixed with chalk and flour. If you get it on your arms, back, chest, thighs or another part common to hitting the ground when falling, you can go home!"
Everyone looked around to the others standing in the arena judging how hard it would be to knock them down. Then the Duke concluded "There are many guards and I watching this event, so keep to the rules, tripping and wrestling to the ground is legal. If one should fall onto another before they leave the arena and are not marked, they are still fighting. Once marked, leave immediately. And finally, if seen throwing the dust to mark someone standing you will be prosecuted for sabotage to the tournament and punished accordingly...NOW BEGIN!!"
"You really thought that you could infiltrate the capital and assassinate me?" The king asked in anger. Liir smirked but the mask covered it as he slid his sword into his hilt and placed his arms in the air as the guards moved in.
"Do you think I'd be here if I didn't?" Liir replied laughing to himself. "But it appears that I might have excluded a few factors, like your vast number of guards for instance," The king suddenly dawned the look of anger, he motioned to the guards and hand Liir shackled. The ki9ng then walked over and ripped the mask off of Liir's face, the leather that held it on parted as the strings in the back snapped. His long black hair fell from the mask covering his face.
"Still trying to hide eh?" the king cackled and drew Liir' hair aside, the sight surprised him. It was a young man, not much older than twenty. He had a olive tone to his skin along with about three small scars from battle scattered across his face. This boy wasn't much older that his daughter or son. Liir still smirking knew what was going through the king's mind, "How could he lead so many at such a young age?".
The king turned and started pacing thinking of what to do with his new prisoner, then it dawned on him. "Liir I have a proposition, if you can take it or leave it,"
"I'll hafta say no," replied Liir not wanting to do anything for this swine.
"Then you die,"
"Then I retract my earlier statement and am now listening,"
"Thought you would, this is the deal, you have obviously heard of the Alabaster Cup, it would be a great attraction to have the last Magi in the completion, that is if you make it through the qualifying round. If you win the completion which i doubt, you live, you go to our prison for the rest of your life but you live, if you loose, well you dont live,"
"I guess i have no choice but to accept,"
"Excellent," The king seemed to beam at his clever idea. The servants and such started to gather around the broken melted doors to catch a glimpse of the fabled heretic, then they parted a blond woman strolled in head held high, her white gown flowing in the wind. She walked next to the king and stared right at Liir. She then approached him and he lowered his head hiding his face.
"Is this the legendary Liir?" She asked the king. "Because if so i though he would be brave enough to show his face," She then grabbed Liir's face and pulled it up, she turned it to get a good look at him, then she caught a glimpse of his eyes, a dark crimson. "So he is a Magi, the last i do believe,"
"You would be right," Liir remarked then a hand suddenly collided with his face. The princess had struck him and was rubbing her hand.
"You will speak to me when I say you can speak to me," She said in a angry tone. Liir could feel the anger boiling up inside him, His hands started to warm and he suppressed the urge to show her why he was still alive. The king then walked up to the princess and placed a hand on her shoulder and whispered in her ear she turned and exited the room. The king then left right after her.
"Alright we must get you prepared for the preliminary round," said one of the guards. "You might want to wear this," another said handing him his mask.Liir was able to put it on but not able to lace it because of the shackles. A guard laughed and then tied it for him, he purposely made it tight to make him uncomfortable. "Oh and you wont be needing this another said removing his cloak and sword from his back. This reveled stunning leather armor that covered his chest legs feet and fore arms, each with intricate Magi designs.
"I think I might need the sword," Liir remarked.
"You might but lets see how you do in the preliminaries without it shall we?" Liir was lead to the arena where the competitors were already lining the arena where they were going to do battle and they were being given the instructions. The guards called out as the reached the edge, "We have a late entry!" They then pushed Liir over the edge shackles still attached. He twisted in air and was able to land on his feet but stumbled and almost fell face forward, He steadied himslef and realized that this might not be as easy as he had hoped.
After Zane had signed up for the Alabaster Cup, he noticed when he walked outside a woman with a cloak on staring at him.
Akari went up to Zane and took off her hood of her cloak. Her eyes were a red as she stared at him. She knew right off the back that he was human and put her guard up. "What's your name human?" she asked.
"Zane. Who are you and why are you stalking me?" he asked.
"I am a fortune telling witch and I own my own shop no too far from here. I saw what you did earlier for that elf and since I normally leave the town before the gate closes I decided to stay an thank you for helping the elf out. All of the creatures of the forest are dear to me and I help them with all their injuries whenever they come to the village and back to the forest," she replied.
"That's some job you have here."
"Yeah, but sadly, more and more people keep hurting these wonderful creatures and I have to help in any way I can. I have many potions and that's why when the elf said that his family had medicine he meant me. I am the doctor of the forest and I love what I do. I earn money by telling fortunes and buying the ingredients I need to make them in the black market. "
Zane looked amazed at what Akari had said about all the magical creatures out there beyond the walls of the castle and he knew that they was more to the story than what she had told him.
Attello stood patiently as the rules were given, his helmet was tucked under his arm and his sword was in its sheath.
"And finally..."
Attello pulled his helmet on, fastened the strap under his chin and adjusted it a bit to make it fit properly, he placed his hand on his sword hilt in preparation, he didn't no what the fight would be like, but with so many people attempting to qualify, it would no doubt be harsh, and no rules were given against weapons, or killing for that matter.
"NOW BEGIN!" the words floated on the air, one poor fellow next to Attello hesitated a bit as if he didn't understand the command, he fell to the ground quickly as some one bum rushed him. The rusher ran blindly toward Attello, who stepped to the side and placed his foot out, the man fell face first, smashing his nose in the dirt.
Ducking as a body latched onto his back, arms around his neck. Attello let go of his sword and flung the unknown fighter over his shoulder. The man landed with a thud on the ground. Attello rose quickly watching the fight unfold before him.
'If this keeps up I just have to stay out of the way and they'll all fall down on their own.'
Three more opponents fell in similar fashion by Attello's hand, and then he noticed a man fall to the ground of his own accord, revealing a man with a sword drawn.
'Ah yes, much more to my liking.' Attello thought as he pulled his sword from its sheath. He began walking toward the man and soon the two were upon each other, the other struck first, swinging high and hard. Attello ducked under the swing and brought his blade up, following his opponents swing, only he moved faster and was able to force the man's sword to continue on it's path to far. This threw the fighter off balance, which gave Attello the opportunity to put him to the ground. He pushed in with his shoulder, bringing it up into the man's chin, cracking his jaw and sending him to the ground.
Attello stepped over the man and quickly gained a footing as he waited the next fighter who would fail attempting to put him to the ground.
