Roxie Faye
Because I was extremely bored out of my mind, I googled the word "Otakuboards" and I got a lot of really, really bizarre results. Among them: Otakuboards Clone - A clone of Otakuboards (though I would think that the whole board was in jest, poking fun at other boards *wink* that have imitated OB in the past...) Vote for your favorite Board - vBulletin Board of the Month May, 2004 - Will you look at that, OB nominated as favorite board of the month in 2004. LJ profile of an old, long-gone member - ZOMG!! It's devidramon's LJ profile!!! Holy crap!!! He's like my idol... and I found his LJ by googling Otakuboards! Wikipedia in Slovak - the disambiguation for the letters "OB" in Slovak, one of which cites Otakuboards. (Funnily enough, I didn't encounter the English version of this page through googling Otakuboards, although it does exist - just replace the "sk" with "en") Among the entries I also found plenty of referrals to Otakuboards on tons of sites. OB was also mentioned on a couple of foreign language pages, including Japanese, Spanish, and Russian. It also looks like OB was requested on a Chinese proxy server, although I could be misinterpreting that entirely. I don't expect some deep, intricate discussion on any of this, but I couldn't resist sharing some of these funny results (okay, especially "OB Clone") with the real members of OtakuBoards. =) ~Roxie
Aberinkula
Last year there was a thread about the clone. It was one of those 15 minutes of fame things.
Retribution
Interestingly enough, there's also a fake user/password thing here that is for OB. Odd.

Also, according to the member list, this "nona" account isn't even there to begin. And yet, it allowed me to log on. Interesting quirk. James
Definitely some interesting results there. It's nice to see that we grabbed some votes somewhere out there on the Internet. I also like the OtakuBoards Clone, it's one of those funny little things that will always be remembered in the future. Cool stuff.
Boo
What is this Clone? I loved that thread. :3
Otakuboards Clone - A clone of Otakuboards (though I would think that the whole board was in jest, poking fun at other boards *wink* that have imitated OB in the past...)[/size']
Eh, I don't think it had anything to do with anything but the OtakuBoards themselves. [strike]In fact, the main reason I even created it was because Stuart couldn't log on to OtakuBoards at the time.[/strike] It's actually the real OtakuBoards. Rachmaninoff
I love how a mod posted a way to get past registration.
If you read the site guidelines it isn't a way to bypass registration, it's simply been done by someone else. It even advises you to make fake accounts that you don't intend to use and post them there for others to use eventually. A bit silly perhaps, but by no means a method of getting past registration. Well other than the obvious part that someone already did it for you. The one I have to say is the most amusing is the OB clone. lol To think that this site is run by a smexy pirate as Boo put it. ;)

Yes, somebody has to register, but that allows (hypothetically) countless people to post without registering. It's in the same vein as hiding behind a group of people in order to sneak into a movie. Sure, those people have paid to get in, but the one hiding didn't. He or she bypassed paying.

So one person skipped it but it wasn't skipped altogether. Anyway, I took a look and found this: Web Safety Rating Which was mildly interesting as to how the site is considered safe. :catgirl:
