BlueMoon
So, I was listening to some music last night and it occured to me that some areas (be it a local region or a country in particular) seem to produce music that I'm more likely to gravitate towards. Whether it's the language or something about the sound, I'm not sure. But I do seem to gather music by regions. So what regions do you find produce the best bands? Or at least ones you love the most. It could be your hometown or a nation in general or anything in between. For me, I noticed that there's something about bands from Finland that draw me in. Loituma, PMMP, CMX, Apocalyptica, Sunrise Avenue, Värttinä, The Rasmus... They're all pretty different, too. Loituma and Värttinä being folk bands and PMMP a girl band while Sunrise Avenue is normal, pop-ish stuff. Although it seems like a lot of Scandinavian music in general is pretty awesome (Leaves' Eyes and Garmarna being good examples).
Goodbye, Face
For the most part, the music I like comes from my home state (North Carolina) and Georgia. I guess a lot of people in these states have a lot of pent-up emo angst. My tastes in NC include bands like Wolverines, Boa Narrow, Tarantuloco, Giant, and The Demonstration. Georgia bands are Circle Takes the Square, I Would Set Myself on Fire for You, me and him call it us, Cinemechanica, and plenty others. But as far as regions are concerned, a lot of so-called legendary bands that influence the music I listen to come from countries like Germany and Italy. German bands like A Fine Boat(,) That Coffin!, Louise Cyphre, and Danse Macabre; as well as the Italian Raein and La Quiete are among some of the most wicked music I've heard. I maintain the Georgia has the best independent music scene. Ever.

DeadSeraphim
Chicago has the best punk, Australia has the best hip hop, and Florida has the best industrial. That is how I figure it.
Cat
For me most of the music I listen to comes from Europe in general. I ques if you want country wise then then the majority of what I listen to comes from United Kingdom and Finland. There are a few good bands in Italy and Germany to that I listen to as well. Jakehammaren
Scandinavia does it for me, hands-down. Nearly all of my favorite bands hail from there, and there seems to be no end to the talent pouring out of those Northern mountains. I don't know what the deal is. I think Scandinavian babies directly out of the womb with flying-V in hand, ripping out massive solos. Everyone already knows about Finland because of the endlessly boring H.I.M. and extremely popular Children of Bodom and Apocalyptica - but let's look beyond that: Finland gave birth to Moonsorrow, one of the greatest bands ever to grace our world with music. Ensiferum hails from there, and they're a very high-quality band. Many of you also know of Finntroll, who has also put out killer album after killer album. You've got countless bands from Norway and Sweden that are absolutely incredible, so I won't bother to mention them. These countries are absolutely crawling with amazing metal bands. I swear it's in their blood.

When it comes to regions, I too enjoy quite a bit of music from my home here in North Carolina, but I'm into bands from all around the USA, as well as Japan, Italy, France, etc. Language is no barrier when it comes to music. Guest Heero yuy
I listen a lot of 'hardcore'... And most of them are coming out of the western coast, Seattle, Washington...and some reason San-Fransico...bay area, California. Like Sinking Ships, Guns Up and Set Your Goals. I also listen to metalcore, it seems more promulient (sp?) around East and the South of the U.S. BTAM are from N.C. and Symphony In Peril are from Ohio...actually a lot of metalcore bands are from the Ohio region.
