visualkei
I'd like to know what's the fasion trend from where you're living. I'm no fashion guru, but I was thinking about how I may look alright here, but may totally be a dweeb if I were in another country. =P. Talk about what's in, what you like, and what you hate about your location's fashion, and what you're curious about in other places. I live in the United States, and I'm not going to talk about every little detail, someone else may elaborate on the fashion trends here, but there are a few things I'd like to ask about. Pants. For women. After being extinct since the 70s, flared jeans have been "in" for the past ten years here. Now almost no women wear big flares, instead, mostly small flares, boot-cut, and I've seen the skinny legged jeans trying to make a comeback. Low-ride jeans that come up to your hips or right below have been in for the past 3 years. For men. I've seen a few guys try wearing flared jeans, and it just doesn't look right to me. Wide-leg pants were in big time in the late nineties, but now, I guess you can say straight leg pants are in. For a major time during the past summers I've seen a lot of cargo shorts on every other fella. And every other guy I see wear pants a little big on him so that it slightly sags in the back. T-shirts are always in. I was just wondering about flares/wide-leg pants. I hear people don't wear them in Europe, just skinny legged jeans? Oh yeah, and a lot of women have been sporting tatoos in their lower back, or bluntly put, right above their butt-crack. I think those tatoos look really cheap, are in the wrong place, and I'd say that's the fashion trend I've disliked recently.
GTK
Oh yeah, and a lot of women have been sporting tatoos in their lower back, or bluntly put, right above their butt-crack. I really don't like seeing butt-crack, regardless of how hot the chick is ~_~ tats on the chest are slightly more appealing. I really don't like skinny leg pants... Sadly, I own some DX but I bought them for work just cause I needed nice pants (though I hadn't realized they were skinny leg until after I'd bought them and was too lazy to take them back). I do find it amusing, however, that there's now a very thin line between pants for men and women... I saw a couple at school the other day who had matching skinny leg jeans. They looked exactlly the same to me *shrugs* It was a bit silly. I think mullet-esque hairstyles might be getting popular? This may have to do with the fact that some Japanese bands have like...fashion mullets *laughs* but I've seen a few people at school with this sort of hair cut, usually dyed with either a large chunk or streaks (mostly I see variations of blonde for the dyed bits) *is also guilty of having this hairstyle, but hasn't dyed her hair* Personally, I like Japanese trends like EGL and Fruits/street fashion. Mostly for the fact that not a lot of people in my area are wearing these things ^^; I'd rather not look like everyone else, thanks.
BlueMoon
Low-ride jeans that come up to your hips or right below have been in for the past 3 years.
You just hit on the fashion trend that annoys me most. I don't care for it. I don't care if people wear it, although I tend to disagree with their choice to do so. But that's not why I hate it. I hate it because it's getting hard to find nice looking jeans that aren't "super-low" or "ultra-low" and such. I just don't feel right wearing them. I don't want my pants over my stomach, either, but it's hard to find the comfortable middle ground. The fashion trend I hate the most, however, is in children's clothing. I can't stand the clothing little girls are given now. I call it Bratz clothing after those dolls. It's all halter tops and thongs and such. I don't understand why that clothing sells so well. It feels like oversexualizing girls. But fashion I do like tends to be in men's shirts and jewlery. They get some nice stuff. But otherwise I don't really notice men's fashion. Fyxe
I've noticed that a lot of girls around my school have been getting into the "cute punk" trend. High-top shoes (either Converse, or Rocketdog), a lot of cutsie skull shirts, leggings under the cut-up mini-skirts, and BLACK NAIL POLISH. What's with girls and black nail polish all of the sudden? I've been wearing it for the past three years, and now, all of the sudden, I see it on every perfectly manicured hand. I have to admit, some girls can pull it off really well. And I don't mind seeing them in it, but still... I think too many people have been shopping at the new pussyesque Hot Topic.

Brilliant marketing scheme, really, but a shameful commentary on our society as a whole and the importance we put on the notion of cool. As for me, I ****ing hate fashion. I don't wear something because someone else - be it a celeb or the guy sitting next to me in LA - thinks it looks cool. I put no weight into the concept... it's never seemed to matter to me. I don't conform to any fashion concept, be it conformism or the oxymoron that is nonconformism... don't see the point to it. Whatever feels comfortable and whatever I like, that's what I wear.
Guest NIKI12345
Me I say **** fashion. I dress the way I like to dress, but looking cute is a always for me. *Smile* Right now a big fashoin thing is Holester or whatever. Personly I don't feel like buying over priced shirts. Oh for shoes its all about the Jordans, Convers, and Etnees. Sorry I don't know how to spell the lst shoe. For hair all the girls have it laiered. Me I have my front laiered. Oh and big hoop earings are in. So are pearls which I love. Also chains are really popular. Flare pants are in and so are miniskirts. Anything cute or punk out is cool here too. The boys wear huge jackets like you see on the music vids and they wear big chains that hang low. Everyone wears flare pants. Thats the way it is in the caynon state. *Smile*
Haibara
I don't care about fashion, I just wear what I like and whats most comfortable for me. I hate wearing tight fitting clothes. What I don't get is when guys wear oversized pants that tend to show off there boxers, why is that popular it looks stupid to me.
vegeta rocker
well i tend to like black alot. I wear some hot topic stuff but only if it is on uber sale. lol I like kinda ragged clothes so i tear em up when appropriate, just my thing. One thing i HATE is emo pants, skinny leg jeans look yucky. But hey whatever you are comfortable in. The fashion around here in Dallas is pretty in flux since i go to an art school so here is a little run through. Video Production/Digital Media Production Work clothes, some punk and casual clothes/gamer shirts. Fashion Design Overly formal clothes and stilletos for girls and emo for guys. Graphic Design Chilled out and laid back clothes. Computer Animation Shorts, gamers tees and baseball caps.
Retribution
Most fashion in my area faces a race rift. Black guys usually wear jerseys, hand-designed shirts with cartoon characters painted on (there's a general shift away from these two), or a design-conscious graphic t-shirt. Jeans are usually faded and baggy with shoes matching shirt colors. But there is also a movement towards H&M/Gap/Old Navy stuff, like grey short-sleeve sweaters with a black long sleeve shirt underneath, which I find cool. White guys tend towards tighter shirts and jeans here, and there is a general disregard for shoes matching shirts. At my school, it's mostly Hollister/American Eagle/Abercrombie clothes. Not too many people are hopping on the emo bandwagon, and seem to be loving the prepwear. I tend to like graphic t-shirts and a jacket or hoodie to go over it (unzipped, of course). I don't really like super-tight jeans, but I'm move towards slimmer ones. And I also have a thing for scarves these days.
desertphoenix
I guess my situation is a bit different since my school has uniforms. Out-of-uniform days I see a trend, but in uniform days you can see factions. The most common everyday uniforms are khakis and a black polo, and black khakis with a white polo. People who wear khakis and white shirts most of the time are seen as preppy, and ones who wear all black are seen as emo or people who generally don't give a $#!%. Out-of-uniform days, you see a lot of what's been said in this thread, extremely tight pants, baggy pants, a legion of Air Forces, combat boots, Bondage pants are dieing a bit, the holster-top and fitted jacket thingy, flares, and so on. I don't know, but still plan to wear my baggy jeans and a dark-color hoody or a nice red, white, or black tee for years to come. :D edit: typo edit: location, North central US, City. visualkei
Just a reminder. It'll be nice to know where you are as to where your fashion comment is. You don't have to give specific details, something like Northeast US, Norway, Ireland, Libya, or anything like that will do. Thanks.

Delta
I haven't been following fads lately--ah, wait. Rewind. I'm currently on my second month of skipping a local fashion mag I've been following religiously for years but I think I have a pretty good idea of what's currently in. Espadrilles are back again. So are slingbacks in peep- and closed-toe, and really, really colorful flats. I'm still seeing remnants of last year's flip-flops hype, but mostly on people who look like they didn't have time to think about the day's ensemble (thus resorting to the ever-safe jeans+shirt+flip-flops). And oh, the skinny-skinny jeans movement did reach our shores... but it was shot down by the alliance between tulip skirts and cropped pants before it ever came in sight of our malls. It really bugs me that while women's fashion is going in 101 separate ways, men's fashion seems to be stuck in the same place it has been for the past, oh, ten years? The only differences I saw since the decade started are: 1) graphic prints; 2) tighter tops; and 3) the death of over-sized shirts (yay!). BTW, location: Manila, Philippines. P.S.: Color, color, color. P.P.S.: A recent picture of me and my university mates reminded me of Honey and Clover. Just a thought.

Pumpkin
P.P.S.: A recent picture of me and my university mates reminded me of Honey and Clover[/i']. Just a thought.
ehehe, I <3 you just for mentioning H&C. Anyways, for those who know me know I'm a handbag/earrings/shoes and such freak so yes I've noticed close-healed heels are back with a high stilleto type, hard to walk in, but I think their adorable. It just happens that I still have the 80's style wood heels, but I still adore them even if their "not in style anymore". Honestly, I have my OWN style, but a lot of that is determined by the stores I shop at. Rave, Charolette Russe, Wet Seal, Styles, and Zappos. I love Rave or "Lola's" as its called now, because things are not expensive, but they look great. I like wearing kimono-style dresses over pants with high heels, it sounds funky but you can really pull it off. Also I like a low tank top, add something shiny, with cropped capris, and closed-toed heels, with a headband and you got pretty much me. I HATE when girls where girly dresses and then punk-style shoes. I think it looks really stupid to mix punk/with prep style, it really does. I don't dress girly all the time, and I don't dress punk all the time, but I don't mix match them. Anyways, for those of you who think fashion is stupid, its a real career to get into. I was thinking for a moment of trying it for myself, but my style is just too unique and different. However, that's what we need. Wear what you think is hot, not what the mags do. [Although looking at them to see what YOU like, is fine] One thing that I've noticed by the way, is the short boots with heels. I don't really like them. However, I've seen acouple people pull them off. Only very few though. That is a shoe-fanatic's nightmare.
Guest NIKI12345
Well when I wrote I ment AZ. Me I love short cut convers. I also love Jordans. Me I enjoy wearing skirts that are above my knees. Guest Heero yuy
To be honest, I dress like 'scenester'...sporting the girl jeans, small band tees and the gravity bangs haricut...even the shotgun. But then, when I started listening to the music I do now...it wasn't a fad, it was more a life style. Just a reflection of a 'sub-culture', for a better lack of term. I played that music, I love the music, thus I submerse my image in it. Now when I walk around down town, I see all these kids who dress this way. But really don't understand the influence of it...Now it's a fad...Lately, I switch between girl pants and striaght legged guy's jeans...Whatever I feel like. I still wear band t's, polo's, plaid button ups and the occasional sweater vests. I don't mind tattoos really, as long as they're tasteful...My friend got a flaming skull on his shoulder, it was pretty ugly and it held no meaning what so ever. He shelled out a hundred and fifty for someone to tarnish his skin. For shoes, I wear pumas, onitsuka asics and adidas sambas...shoe's don't really matter that much too much. What I really hate though, are those huge sunglasses that girls wear. The giant ones, they just annoy the hell out of me. I don't know. And the whole idea of wearing gloves with the figer tips cut off. It's alright when it's cold, but to wear one and it's a blistering 100 degrees outside...it's a crappy fad. For me, it's wear what you feel, wear what you want...You're still you no matter what you wear.
eleanor
Ok, just a pet peeve of mine, and since this is a fashion thread I'll get it out. I get irritated when people whose wardrobes consist of A&F/American Eagle/Hollister* think they have the greatest prep styles ever. I know that there's not a clear-cut definition of prep clothing, but I'm 90% sure that those three stores are just the random little sisters of prep who wish they could be prep. Prep clothing can be found in places like J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, FCUK, Burberry, Brooks, etc. Like, the seriously expensive stores. Because preps are supposed to just plain rich. Whew. Ok, I know I just sounded like a complete and utter snob/*****, so I'll end that. The fashion trend in my area that is now over, thank God, was the leggings+skirt. I just really hated that. Especially when they wore Ugg boots with them, because we all know Ugg boots were the fluke that was never supposed to happen, ever. But the trend that's going on right now is the whole stylish retro/dress tops thing. Like the straight leg/skinny jean (that I love) with ballerina flats or small heels and a simple top + headband/high ponytail. I'm liking it, though. When you can pull off the straight/skinny jean, you're good. *I hate this store.

If you have a long torso or is short, you'd look funny in them.
