Recently I started watching this show and though I'm only to episode four I've been enjoying it. Basically it's about how the very next day after an apparent alien invasion of Tokyo is repelled by a mysterious being, middle schooler Murata Hajime discovers that his small town holds a strange secret when he witnesses transfer student Subaru Muryou fight another student using psychic powers.

Since Hajime himself is relatively new to his town, he has been unaware that the leading families have been
protecting the earth from alien invasion for centuries by using the ability of "Shingu," and that the current members of the middle school student council are also the chosen guardians of this generation.
He also begins to discover that many of the town's residents are in fact
intergalactic diplomats.
Hajime is drawn futher into this open secret as his friendship with Muryou and the
"chosen" teenagers
-- especially tomboy Moriyama Nayuta -- deepens and as he begins to discover that he has a role to play in Earth's future. [summary obtained from AnimeNewsNetwork]

Anyway, so far I've been enjoying it, the animation is not the best but it's still nicely done and Hajime makes a rather unique character in how things happening are told from his prospective of an outsider explaining what happened.

The characters are easy to identify with with as you have the standard hothead, the calm collected one and the usual tomboy girl messing things up. So far I've been really enjoying it and I'm looking forward to when it's released on 04-24-2007 in a slim pack edition so I can get all 26 episodes at the same time. ^_^

That and so far my favorite character is the calm and reserved and definitely cute Subaru Muryou.

Other people have seen Shingu! It's a miracle! (Heheh.)

The show takes some getting used to in that it has sci-fi and action elements but is preponderantly a more nostalgic story about friendship and community. In that sense, it's sort of comparable to Figure 17 (which was produced by Shingu's director, actually), although Shingu's tone is much more upbeat. I own the singles, but I was thinking of rewatching it around the time that the thinpak comes out.

And yeah, Muryou is a big draw.

I've seen the first couple of episodes and I was actually planning on watching some more since they have ep 3-6 running in the on demand section of my cable. I haven't seen enough to know if I'm going to really like it or not, but I did like the initial set up and the characters from the calmer Muryou and how Hajime is telling it from his prospective, it kind of gives it the feel of something that has already happened and you're being told about it.

I also like how though there is the sci-fi elements in it, so far it hasn't taken over and dominated it. I like how it looks like they are going to take the time to develop the characters and back story before getting to far into the main plot.

That's good to know it's coming out in a slim pack though. If I like it I'll just wait for that instead of buying the DVD's individually.

Now that I've finally gotten around to watching the first couple of episodes of this I have to agree. He's definitely a cute character.

So far I'm really liking how it has a good amount of character development instead of lots of random fights. Something I hope it continues since the way it's being presented almost as if Murata Hajime is simply telling you what happened really draws me in.

I love finding a new series right before they are about to release the whole thing in a slim pack. Making it affordable and the wait bearable when it looks like a series you want to add to your collection.
