cancer
Here is my latest charcoal portrait. It is of my friend Aaron from Canada. It is based on a photograph by Tessa Beebe. I had to do it on watercolor paper, so it's not blended perfectly. Please critique.
Riku
Pretty frickin' sweet, cancer! I'm absolutely in love with it ~ <3 I'm really astonished at the fact that no one has posted in here yet, this drawing is fantastic... amazing even. I love the fact that you made this all out of the charcoal media, which I might add, is very hard to use while drawing. The shading is lovely, it has a real yet non- real sense to it, if you know what I mean. Every little detail is so remarkably made, I can tell you've worked so hard on it. The guy's hair and make- up are a plus (It is a guy, right? He's pretty hawt. :D) Details in everything are wonderful.... I love it. As for the things I don't really like: the lips are a little off, a little too small, but is still great. There's particularly a little more detail in the left eye more than the right, but I bet that would've been more hard to do. The background doesn't really appeal to me much, though I think it's just shadows, yeah? As for everything else, overall, A+. Love the black and white contrast to it, the shadows are magnificent, clothes/ hair/ accessories make me want to have them and the face contour is really great... the guy really appeals to me. XD Fabulous work, cancer. I would really, really love to see more of your art gracing this Art Studio. ;] PS: I'm the one who voted 5. cancer
Thank you so much KW. But yea, the lips might be a little off. The left eye was intentionally left with no detail, because that's how the lighting made it. And the background was like that in the photograph, though I could've changed it and been creative : p Thanks again.
eleanor
The first thought that ran through my head when I saw this was a photograph filtered in Photoshop. So needless to say- great job! I've never worked with charcoal, but it seems like a hard medium to work with. Everything looks impressive! The lips do seem odd, but at the same time I could definitely see it as a feature of the person (I thought it was a girl, actually. >_> This guy has really feminine features). The only thing I'd nitpick at are the jaw lines, but you explained that you had to do it on watercolor paper, so I'm assuming that's the reason they're uneven. Hope you post more stuff!
jigglyness
Wow. That's pretty awesome. I haven't seen a charcoal piece here done like this. It's really good. At frist glance I though it was just a black and white photograph. As for improvement, I just think you need to ad a little more value into the face and the hands seem just a little mis-proportioned. it needs to be just a tad bigger to be in proportion to the body. But overall great work. :)
