Makurayami
Just came out yesterday, offically at least, and the album is set to drop May 15th. This is suppose to be a new sound from Linkin Park and not like their last albums. The new single is called "What I've Done" and is really different from anything else by Linkin Park. The sound is softer and Chester doesn't use the screaming sound of his voice the whole song. Also, Mike doesn't rap in the song at all. The video is a flashback of a U2 video. It goes with the song, but I dunno, I liked my LP to be Nu Metal sounding. So, about this new sound. It is softer than previous Linkin Park and sounds different. I kind of like it, but if the whole album is like it, I think I'm going to cry. I understand what the band is trying to do, make a new sound and all, but if they keep it up, they'll start sounding like every other band of the pop-soft rock genre. That's my take on it. Opinions anyone? And please try to make them semi-constructive at least. I'm so sick of the blind fanboys/fangirls spewing on about how "LP is the greatesy no matter what so f**k you if you don't like them."
Sazumechan
im with you.i really like the sound of the previous albums but hey im all about trying something new.just as long as they still have some kind of distinct sound that puts them separate from the rest.thats what i love about likin park no one else sounds like them.where did you hear the new song.i want to hear it,then i can really comment on it .and the album comes out in May sweet!i cant wait! ------------------ hey i heard that song today!not the whole thing but i think i got the jist of it.well they sounded different,im normally good at picking out voices either in anime or music but i could not tell that that was chester!until he started the chorus then i could kinda tell.but anyways i see your point about them making their sound different at least in that song they were a lot lighter then normal and i like their heavy sound! Makurayami
If anyone wants to hear the song, you can get it and even the whole music video on YouTube.
Hinata
Cut the YouTube idea.. I tried to see it there and it was a no go. All you have to do is hear it on their MySpace page. The whole song is there and I must tell you although its softer for Linkin Park it is still their sound. This song reminds me of 'My December' where there was no yelling and yet still so powerful. I loved the song and I can't wait for the album to come out! I hope to hear more songs too as the album draws closer together.
Makurayami
It sort of sounds like My December, but Chester just sounds different. You should see the music video. They are all dressed up in suits and Chester has these big sunglasses and gloves on. He doesn't look like his old rocker self and looks like freakin' Bono. As a matter of fact, the whole video looks like a U2 video. And you should be able to find it on YouTube if you look hard enough. I know a lot of them says removed due to copyright claims, but one or two of them are still up.
Boo
After hearing the new single a few times after each other, it kind of grew to me. It's not really what I had expected, but it's only one song so far. I look forward to hearing the new album and seeing them live at PinkPop 2007, in May. The Nu Metal sound was getting a bit old, anyway. The past albums were sort of... teeny. Hopefully they can show us with this album that they've grown in time. Edit: Chester doesn't look any worse than he did before. He didn't have a rock vibe over him at first - he had a teeny nerd vibe. Animepunk420
Yeah the new song grew on me once I heard it it's good like My December at least we know there not done I hope there new Cd is good
Makurayami
Yeah, Chester did look a bit like a nerd, but when he screamed and stuff he looked like a rocker. And the way he carried himself, dressed, and sung was rock styled. I don't know, it's hard to explain. But now he's dressed in this black suit with gloves and huge sung glasses. And he has a mic stand and he moves it all over the place when he sings. Like I said, it's hard to explain, he just doesn't seem like his old rocker self. Boo
They brought this first song out first, mostly symbolically, as they have made some major changes to their sound and their style. So I heard. Edit: I just watched the "Papercut" video and I must say that I'm a lot more pleased with the way they present themselves now. Jiazu
it really is like a u2 video, but the song is good, like my december is... i like that they don't just do the screaming/rapping thing all the time. can't wait for the new album, though i hope it's not ALL like this song... screaming is good too :)
Retribution
I personally don't like it at all. The song only reinforces their image as an angst-ridden, misunderstood, us vs the world kind of band. Lyrics in LP songs are usually decent, but I can't say the same for this single. Ah well, I guess I moved on from them a while ago anyway.

Normally Chester's lyrics are pretty bad, but in this song they are rather good. For one, they are not incredibly depressing or anything. Plus, like said before, he's not really screaming throughout the song. They didn't play electronic tricks or whatever on his voice either. The whole song is a lot more "clean" than most of what I've heard of Linkin Park so far. The only thing about the song that really bothers me is that in the video (which I think is a pretty cool video, but that aside...) Mike is playing a guitar, which I've never seen him do before and I fail to recognize it in the song.
Kenshin DX
Linkin Park was good when they first came out. But they suck because all they release is the same material remixed. All they have done over the past years is remix their remixes. I will throw up next time I hear another version of "In The End" . They should have just killed themselves after Collision Course. Their new song is decent at best but it seems they are finally trying to stray away from doing the same crap over and over. Which is a good thing. If they can create another album like Hybrid Theory than I will start to listen again.
Makurayami
Edit:[/b'] I just watched the "Papercut" video and I must say that I'm a lot more pleased with the way they present themselves now.
How? Their in a rock band (a Nu Metal band to be more specific) so their suppose to look like that. I understand that they're trying to brnach out, but their loosing their look to something else. Like I said before, if they keep this up, they'll be like any other band in the new genre they're exploring. Don't get me wrong, I like the new song, I'm just worried that LP (my favorite band) will become like every other band out there and loose their individualality (sp?). Boo
How? Did you even see the Papercut video? They've come a long way from that video to the new one that's for certain. They look all grown up in comparison to the Papercut video. Besides, you really can't say "if they keep this up, they'll be like any other band", because it's the first single of an album that might have a great variation of songs, for all I know. Edit: By the way, if you look at the tracklist of "Minutes to Midnight" it seems as though they didn't stray too far from their other two albums with all of the songs. Makurayami
Depends on what your definition of "grown-up" is. Look at some of the rock bands still around, say for example Motley Crue. They've been around for ever, and they still don't look "grown-up"
