Silly Things That Upset You

I am by no means a vegetarian, but I cannot eat anything that is in animal shape. Specifically, I cannot eat the white chocolate cookies and cream rabbit my mother put in my Easter basket. I was halfway thinking I had grown out of the inability to eat a candy rabbit, and was almost looking forward to it since I have not had any white chocolate in almost a year even though it's my favorite kind. That is, I was looking forward to it until she picked it up and (jokingly) made some comments about the rabbit pleading for its life in a baby bunny voice. She thought I would have grown out of this by now. I haven't. I halfway cried when she did that, because I just can't bring myself to bite into a face.

Now then, what events or things upset all of you on the OB? I'm not talking about common fears or phobias, but the really odd things that make you upset that to other people seem to be, well, silly.

This is almost but not quite that What Grinds Your Gears thread...:P

Anyway, the only things I can think of are frogs. I've fortunately avoided them since this summer, which is when my strange phobia started. Somehow a frog ended up in my bedroom--on my foot, even--and stayed in the house for two days. I got stuck in the bathroom with it the second night and had the biggest anxiety attack of my life.

I'm scared to death of frogs now. It's weird, because I had never really been SCARED of them before. My biology class had to dissect some pretty huge ones last year. Now I can't go outside when it's rainy because frogs just appear in the puddles. I'm also pretty nervous that one could fall from the sky in a rainstorm (it HAS happened).

I am sooooo in love with cats.As a student,i usually end up with a hole in the pocket or might save some for future needs by skipping meals. But strangely, when there's a homeless cat passing by,i'll automatically give what i have (food) or go two bloks from where i stand just to buy something for the cat. Thank god there's only one around.

So the story goes on until i felt this stomach pain and was admitted to hospital due to gastric. After discharged, my dad brought me to this restaurant and he ordered chicken rice.A thin cat neared out table and i was like:"oh..a cat. Here you go"(throwing all the chicken). For my kindness, i was given a spank on the head and end up eating rice only. :animesigh

Before I begin, I would like to state that I place full blame on OCD for doing this to me.

Firstly, and most importantly, is doors. If I am in a room with a door, said door must be closed. At first this was more a personal preference, but now it's gotten to the point where idf a door is open, I start freaking out on whoever's near it to close it, or if I'm alone, getting up and closing it. At this point, when people enter a room or begin leaving a room, I find myself calling out 'close the door!' without even thinking. It's mildly frightening.

When I'm concentrating on something, namely while playing video games or using the computer, I don't like anyone's head in the room to be higher than mine. I don't know why. It just gives me this really strange feeling and I can't concentrate. In my room a general rule is; stay sitting down, and don't sit too close to me. While on the computer, I usually attempt to command people to leave the room when they come in, or merely stop what I'm doing until they are gone.
I find it rediculously stupid that it takes ramen three minutes to cook.
if this is "the food of the gods", they why make me wait three minutes for it?
To make things worse, they actually esxepct you to boil the water first, then pour it into the cup. I find that filling the cup with water and throwing it in the microwave for 3 minutes not only works better, but takes half the time. Go figure >_<

Also, cats on the stairs. When I'm going up the stairs (always jumping several steps at a time, I just do), I don't want to have to dodge a damn cat and mess up my groove :animesigh

I can't leave it open at night, its been like that since I was a kid. Don't know if I was scared a robber or cat was going to come flying through there, but it just bugs me. Also, I must have my fan on, but that is because it is always hot in my room no matter what I do.

Ah, well. That's about it. Besides the fact that I hate spiders. And yes, this does remind me of the "What Grinds Your Gears" thread.

Man, you certainly are making life hard for both yourself and the people you deal with. Are you mildly autistic, perchance?

As for me, I have a strange habit of getting upset over flying bugs, but only occasionally. Usually flies don't bother me, and sometimes I can even stay calm in the vicinity of a bee. Then there are times when I go into panic and start screaming in most awkward circumstances (like when I'm washing windows and a fly flies in - you can bet the whole neighborhood heard those screams).

Mind you that this only goes for flying insects, as beetles and ants and such don't bother me at all, and I'm actually fond of spiders. Butterflies and moths are excluded as well, maybe because I haven't had that many close encounters with those.

I don't know what's the cause of my semi-phobia, but I'm trying to grow out of it. Spending few weeks in Spain last summer helped a lot, as there were bugs everywhere.

Lesse...silly little things. I see some people talking about OCD already, don't know if I have any myself but i always have to have the cap/top on my drink at all times whenever i buy a bottle of soda or water or whatever. Obviously not when i'm drinking from it, but whenever i'm not. Not sure if that can be considered an OCD...more like I just don't want it to spill if it gets knocked over. I have been called weird because of it before though.

Another thing, i HATE helicopters. Or not so much the helicopters as the constant looming of them in a concentrated area. They tend to fly over my house quite frequently every other day all of a sudden and it annoys the hell out of me because they are always within the area...thus the sound only dissipates a little yet never really dissapears until 10 or 20 minutes later. Things have gotten better in that department so far >.>

I doubt it, but then again, I doubt that the fabric of reality is more than an illusion, so who knows -- or better yet, who the hell cares? And wait "making life hard"? By telling people to close the door or not stand behind me while I'm playing video games? What? Oh, my life is so hard, i have to close the door when i go into my brothers room? I'm not allowed the comfort of standing around in the computer room while he's on the internet? That's freaking stupid, I'm sorry.

another thing -- blinds. Even though you close them, the sun glare always finds a way to hit the TV. (and before you say move the TV, it's a huge TV). What's the point of blinds, anyway? If you want the sun, you could just open them up, and closing them does absolutely nothing. At night, you don't want people looking in, but they can easily find an angle that sees right through the closed blinds. Why the hell do they even make them? Why not just a straight sheet? And ly make the chord so confusing for children?!

there are plenty of things that bug me, but the one thing that is always a thorn in my side (latley, anyway), snow. sure it's cool for like the first two weeks, but eventully it gets all crusty and useless for building. and even in the stuff that gets built in the small window of time that you can do anything with snow before it crumbles at the touch get trashy-gray look to and eventully snow is just flat out messy and ine the way. later

Snow is ok, but i find it pretty weird that it's snowing this late in April in Minnesota. Even for Minnesota it's pretty odd. It's probably going to snow tomorrow, which is not good since i have a track meet tomorrow. They will probably make us run through it, just like when it rained, sleeted, and HAILED. We are not mailmen, we are track runners.

No need to get aggressive, DigitalBoy. I wasn't being totally serious, you know? ;D

But honestly, by obsessing over some minor detail, you really are making life harder for yourself. Taking it on your family and friends don't help you either, I for one would be quite pissed off if someone ordered me around like you say you do. I hope you say those things with a little more respect in practice than in your writing.

One of the few everyday things that bug me is a warm bed right before I go to sleep. I don't know why, really. Whenever someone's on my bed before I go to sleep ends up with either a pillow in their face or a bed sprayed with Axe, perfume, and water mixed together. An odd thing, really.

I agree that, for myself, I am definitely making life harder. It bugs the hell out of me that I have very little control over what I do sometimes, and it's annoying. Yet I've gotten so used to it, I don't know what it would be like otherwise...

As for respect... yes, toward my parents, but what many consider 'respect' is hardly existent in my family. Between me and my brothers, every sentence has an insult in it somewhere, so a general lac of respect is ever-present, but we communicate in our own way and we are a very tight group. Even my brothers' friends almost always fall into this cycle, and it's all good fun.

To stay on-topic

I hate plastic cups that have a thick edge. The ones where instead of ending at the mouth, there's like a little ledge. When you drink, there's always a small remnant of the drink left on the ledge, and even if you drink with your mouth on a different part of the cu, the liquid slides down the ledge toward you. No matter what, you end up getting liquid on your cheeks and it ruins the entire drinking experience. I always have to wipe the rim before aking another sip. Crazy annoying.

One more thing. You know the material out of which bags of chips are made? I hate that stuff, or, rather, I hate touching it with wet hands. It drives me crazy! The hellish squeaking sound makes me want to die.

Make that two more things. I am an all-out band nerd, so, of course, certain things in band bother me. One is when people are out of tune with each other. There is no sound worst than two instruments atrociously out of tune. EXCEPT...

The squeaking of the reeds. Whenever I hear a reed squeak, I get really upset. I have cried. I always envision somebody biting down on the reed. In order to overcome this, I tried biting on a reed and squeaking and holding it out. It just made me cry harder.

Oh, and this thread reminds me of the Maury show about pickles [click!] [thank you, Group Sounds]!

Chavs. Well, they're definitely silly.

On a weirder note, one of the small things that really upset me is people moving books. When my friends stay over, I tell them beforehand not to move any books of the shelf. Sadly one of them picked up a Batman annual and got slapped over the head for it. I don't like people touching my books, because I have to put them back and they'll move them out of order.

People taking off my sunglasses. Recently, my normal glasses and their UV reaction lenses (turn into sunglasses in the sun) broke. I'm not used to bright light at all, so I've started wearing sunglasses to see better. They're pretty expensive, and everyone just rips them off to try them on. Not only does that leave me in great pain, especially now it's summer, it really annoys me. Do you know how hard it is to find your glasses when all you can see is white light?

And moths or bugs. I hate moths, they somehow ate through my clothes and I'm far too lazy to buy new ones. Heck, even safety pins and sewing don't do the trick and it just looks really weird. My clothes don't look that bad, just a little odd, since I'm not really into ripping them up like I guess most kids would do =/

'cause of that, I hate bugs. If I see a bug somewhere, I'd stand on it, especially moths. I'll pull off their wings and spit on them. Ruin my clothes, will you? I am not spending another ten pound on a new shirt because some midget moth decided to snack on my old one.
I have an LCD alarm clock thingy and for some odd reason I have to turn it so it isn't facing me when I go to sleep. I get annoyed by all those tiny little lights from the tv, laptop etc.
I feel you on this. I've tried turning my clock around but the light would still reflect off my walls. I just throw an extra pillow case over it. It doesn't muffle the alarm, so it's cool. For other things i just use masking tape  .

added:
This just reminded me that i hate it when i have to sleep in the same with someone who wants to leave to tv on.
People... If the lights are bothering you at night, just close your eyes. That'll help, I promise you.

- one who sleeps surrounded by little red dots
Very very true, but I wish it was that easy for me. I don't know, but I just find it a lot easier to fall asleep in pitch black. I know I can't be the only one, because I can't see the point of inventing those sleeping masks with the eyes painted on you see all the time in the movies. :D

Anyway, I'm the same way. I like total darkness when I sleep so I tend to get a more basic clock that isn't digital without any form of light. I even have thick heavy curtains for my window to keep the light out. Even if it is a bit silly I hate having any form of light. Since when I am asleep, having a light come on wakes me up. And having a light on even with my eyes closed means it takes me longer to fall asleep in the first place.

Simple logic: those little red dots can't be seen through closed eye-lids. They're not that bright. ;D
