Disenchanted
Since we are all for livening up the art studio a bit I thought I might contribute. Portrait I drew in dark pencil from about a 4b to 9b for a project. For those who don?t know it?s Vile Valo from H.I.M. More portraits to follow as I get them done. Its approx A3 in size, the original had a considerable more amount of black either side of his face but the scanner bed wouldnt allow for me to see the whole thing. This has to be submited for marking in a few weeks time along with approx 30 others. Please tell me what you think and also what needs to be improved. Thanks, -Dise
Cat
I like the drawing alot. The only problem I see is the beard alittle uneven. The right side has less hair then the left and it looks weird to me. There is something about the nose that I don't like either. Maybe its because there is no bridge or sides. Shadowing might help so you won't have to draw it in. All and all its a great picture. Retribution
I like this a lot. Did you take artistic liberty with the heart on his mustache? Anyway, the proportions are excellent, the hair looks realistic, and the only objection I have is the lack of shading. Really, the picture is a high contrast one, and some grey would really liven things up, particularly his nose, which currently lacks definition. Shading might also give it a sense of depth. But if the original was high contrast/b&w, then you have little to modify.
jigglyness
I really like the mustache alot. its so realistic since every hair stands out. I love it. The only thing I see that is lacking is the lack of shading , just as everyone before me has said. BUT I also think that it's very stylish to leave it like it is. It kind of makes him stand out a lot.
Disenchanted
Thanks so much for the wonderful comments; my scanner seems to completely fail at picking up the lighter tones in things. I have shaded either side of his nose but so lightly it seems that you can only notice on the original. Pity, but no matter. And yeah, the original image was extremely high contrast. Anyways well since it is part of my body of work?and not just for the 50 themes. -He-who-must-not-be-named, or [strike]Voldimort[/strike], whatever you prefer. His eyes bother me somewhat and the scan is crappy. ><;; -Click-
Cat
His eyes bother me as well. I think it might be that they're not as cat like as discribed in the book. One of his ears also looks a little weird to me but that could be of the lightness of the shading. You did a very good job on the nose and teeth. The only thing with the teeth however is the top row of teeth I don't think fits with the bottem row to well. All and all another great drawing.
