I'm proud to say I have almost no limits in my obsession with anime but if I had to say that I liked some things more then others then I would say that I like romance/drama and pretty much anything with an interesting plot. I want my anime to make me think.

I'd have to say...Shonen anime has no choice but to be my favorite.

I'm a sucker for adventures to new worlds, and the true power of friendship, and whatnot. Sure, I can go for love/comedy mixes as well and I love Melancholy of Haruhi, Lucky Star, and Azumanga Daioh, but my true love goes to a beautifully performed fight scene. ~_~

Specially when things happen that I don't expect.

I'm totally talking about One Piece. You'll never see a love story in it though. :P

I enjoy a wide variety, from light hearted comedies, to the deep and meaningful stories.

I suppose two good examples would be FMP: FUMOFUU and the legendary Neon Genesis Evangelion.

By far, eva is one of my favorite series of all time.

I've been hitting the shoujo anime pretty hard lately. I'm finding I enjoy the slice of life genre a lot, with some comedy and romance mixed in. Some of the series I've watched recently include Kaleido Star, Kanon, Air, and REC. I'm not a big fan of drama, though?Air was a little too heavy for my taste, but good nonetheless?and I prefer more lighthearted series.

I also can't resist a good comedy, either as a primary or secondary genre. (Everything's better with some added funny.) I enjoy lots of different kinds of humor, but I think my favorite is the weird and random stuff found in series like Pani Poni Dash!, Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, and Dragon Half.

Fantasy/adventure is another genre I enjoy a lot. Slayers, Scrapped Princess, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, and Rune Soldier are all good examples of what I like. I'm a sucker for the whole swords and sorcery setting but I also enjoy somewhat more realistic series like Rurouni Kenshin.

That is a hard question to be asking me. I would watch anything and everything so long as it was not too dirty. Looking at my favorite anime, I guess that first and formost, it needs to have comedy included. Two, it needs to have either of these genres included:

Action

Adventure

Fantasy

Romance

Horror

Mystery

Drama
But comedy is a must.

As for those who say that InuYasha and Bleach do not have romance either have not watched any the movies or does not have an imagination. I have a weird sense of likes and dislikes when it comes to anime because I have a wide range of different anime that I like.

Bleach, SuperGALS, Gundam Wing, Hellsing, .hack//SIGN, Outlaw Star and Tenchi are some of my favorites.

I guess that my least favorite genre would have to be science fiction, but I still watch those.

It's hard to limit my likes down to one genre, but I guess you could say I'm into the Fantasy type stuff. I'm always up for a good, typical RPG-like setting, like Record of Lodoss War or Scrapped Princess.
My all-time favorite series is .hack (whether it be SIGN, Roots, or G.U.); I think what any anime should have is interesting characters, and that's one reason why I love .hack.
Plus, a good story is pretty much a must with me. Anything original is worth watching. For me, .hack has a really good story. I like the whole setting of it, in an online game going haywire, and then said-game affecting the real world.

Then, the music. If the music's great, it'll only attract me to a series that much more. The music in Escaflowne is so spectacular, it only adds to the anime's greatness. And although not everyone loves it, I adore the music from .hack//Roots. I personally think Ali Project did a great job and their music really adds to the anime as a whole.

Also, it's nice to at least have a little romance on the side in any anime. Doesn't have to get super dramatic for me (in fact, it's bad if it gets to be too soap opera-like), I just need to fulfill that want to have something cute.

So yeah, any anime that can combine these elements is a good one. I don't require much action in my anime by the way; I mean, I'm a huge .hack fan, and the .hack animes have almost zero action. :P
In the end, I guess you could say I'm into more of the shounen/fantasy type stuff, mainly because I just don't like the drama that's in most shoujos.

I am a huge fan of fantasy/romance anime. Yes, yes I am a helpless romantic sucker... sap, whatever you want to call it.

A good comedy is nice too though.

My prefferences seems a little hard to believe though since my two favourite anime right now are Fullmetal Alchemist and Yu Yu Hakusho. :animeswea

Personally, I'll watch anything as long as it has substance. Substance is anything that will hold the series together, such as suspense, endless action or numerous plot twists. I've enjoyed series ranging from Kaleido Star to Fullmetal Alchemist. Zoids Chaotic Century was pretty cool too. Evangelion was a classic, and anyone who has forgotten Trigun isnt a true anime fan. It all depends on how the story is kept consistant.

I heart magical girl.

I'm your Sailor Moon/Tokyo Mew Mew/Mermaid Melody/Full Moon fangirl right here.

I also like the cute comedies, like Yotsuba&!. It's childish, I know, but still so adoreable!!

I've also started getting myself into Inuysha (due to being pummeled by fangirls when I said I didn't watch it.)

Oh, and Hare+Guu kicks ***.:catgirl:

Just a warning people, the quality in this thread is slipping. We expect more than a simple list of shows. Try to put more into your posts by explaining what it is you like about the type of anime you've listed. Miss Anonymous's post is a good example of what we like to see. You don't have to be that detailed, but simply listing shows is spam. So please put more effort into your posts. Thanks.

I'd have to say my favourites would be Harem, Shounen, Magical Girlfriend, Ecchi, Phsycological, and slice of Life.

There are a couple of things i look for in animes. They basically consist of the ability to make me laugh (until it hurts) and the ability to give me goosebumps by means of something really scary or awesome (for example the majority of the scenes in Naruto).

Animes like Onegai Teacher/Twins, Love Hina, Eiken, and otherlove/humour/fan service based anime i love cause they make me laugh like there is no tomorrow.:animesmil

I suppose, more than anything else, I'm a total magnet when it comes to series that go out of their way to showcase an unusual stylization. For example, Gankutsuou drew me in with its unique approach to color (patterned color fills replaced solid tones in the series, making for a wonderfully exquisite effect), and Shinichiro Watanabe's anime usually meld musical styles with otherwise typical settings (a brilliant approach that surprisingly isn't cloned left and right). Makoto Shinkai's films are also stellar offerings, humbling and believable in spite of being utterly otherworldly. Unbridled mania can totally draw me in as well (see FLCL).

I'm a quintessential genre hopper; there's a lot of series that will pull me in for various reasons. I had my days of being addicted to the pulse-driven action series that is Bleach, but I loved every bit of Love Hina too. Were I forced to conform to a certain set of restrictions, I'd definitely go for most characteristics that 2007DigitalBoy mentioned: series with a heart and soul; surreal stuff mixed in with humbling human characteristics.

I'd like to expand my horizons by taking in a few shoujo series at some point; I've heard wonderful things about Paradise Kiss, as well as Honey & Clover. They've both got a facet that piques my interest (art style and the music, respectively), so it'll just be a matter of time before I get to looking into them.

I don't think there is much I dislike really. I prefer anime that gives me a headache but I feel that's because I'm getting older and wish to think more. When I feel like not thinking I enjoy shojo-ai's and shoeon-ai's but never anything too romantic/girly. I also enjoy ridciously blood/gorey anime or just anime that makes you sleep with the lights on (Reccomendations PLEASE?). Comedys are good too. I dislike Trinity Blood, OSHC, and stuff like that even though one of them is funny and the other horror.

Raven, did you catch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (also known as When They Cry)? It might be up your alley with its psychotic atmosphere and tasteful gore. The animation is potentially difficult to take seriously, though.. So I can't guarantee sleepless nights. :p

I agree about the artstyle in character design - the girls have the most mishappen, hideous heads I've ever seen. However, the atmosphere serves to be really creepy in that they make brilliantly dark images.

I've only seen the first episode, though, and I''ve heard there are certain scenes to make you squeal. I've been considering buying this on DVD.

It deserves to be noted as well that there is a second season currently airing in Japan, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai.

Also, if you haven't seen Boogiepop Phantom, it has that sort of atmosphere and is wonderful.

I'll probably watch just about anything but I tend to stray towards the action-filled anime with a side dish of comedy. It would explain my love for shows like Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho. Although, for some reason, I don't like Bleach as much as I thought I would.

It's pretty rare to find me tooning into anything that's purely romance even when most romance are comedies as well. I guess the few expections for me are Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket. I can't stand anything where all the girls are after one guy or vice versa.

I guess there are a few anime titles that I enjoy watching out of certain genres such as Le Chevalier d'Eon and Ergo Proxy. Ergo Proxy looks scifi to me and usually I don't watch anything like that. And I guess Le Chevalier d'Eon fits under action/historical, no? I just don't see it as purely shonen.

The quality of the animation and the cast of voice actors play their part as well.

Another thing that gets me to watch anime are the feminine male characters. I have a weakness for them, I guess.

I like hardcore action stuff. Higlander,Ninja Scroll ect... I like it because it is more visceral than other genres. I also enjoy romance and shojo a great deal as well. I like watching relationships develop and things like that. Also sci fi movies like nausica and A wind Named Amnesia are great.

[I]:wigout:So, we all know the reason we are here... because we all love anime!! All of us have those anime shows that we like better than others, mine personally is Inuyasha or Fullmetal Alchemist. Of course, i'm a sucker for action;drama stuff. Lol... So to all you out there, what is your favorite anime? What kinds of genres do you look for when you search for new anime? In any animes you may have seen, do you like anyone from it specifically? Anyone you wish was real?

Some people say that i'm an inu-tard, but i'm only being passionate about what I love! :lecture: My mom says that i'm going overboard with the anime... and I say NO! How many of you have parents who are afraid you base your whole life on anime, or think its a horible kind of show? I know I do...Anyways, hope to hear back from you all! :animesmil

Cheers!!
