James
So I'm a fan of YouTube at times. There's some pretty great stuff on there - lately I've been watching all the videos related to iPhone (the more I see stuff about it the more I seem to want one!) But there are a ton of cool things on YouTube and usually I don't even know where to begin when I search there. So I thought we could give recommendations to each other in this thread. Let me get the ball rolling! Tom Cruise on Psychiatry I thought this was rather funny. I went to post a second video involving Tom Cruise laughing hysterically on David Letterman after making a pretty horrible joke...but then I accidentally went back in the browser (this is what happens when you use an Apple keyboard in Windows, apparently). So I can't be bothered posting that again. So here's something to make up for it: Grandma Kicks Baby These may not be the best YouTube has to offer, so I thought I'd ask everyone to join in! What YouTube videos do you like? They can be funny, educational or just plain cool. I'm always happy to look at something interesting on YouTube and I've found that recommendations work best.

Okay, so I was in a DBZ mood when I saw the thread but these videos are funny as hell, I also like the Robot Chicken ones you can find laying around on the Tube so I might post my favourite ones at a later date.
Wondershot
All right, this here is the greatest video I have seen on YouTube. No other video has yet toppled this one as my favorite: 1 Week of Art Works by Rinpa Eshidan Rinpa Eshidan are supposed to be an artist team from Japan who do mural-sized works that they record on video, and the reason they record them is that they constantly paint over the mural and redo everything, so it is more akin to an animation than a still image. You'll notice in that video, for example, that they paint things like the weather in the scene changing, a chameleon changing colors as the rest of the scene changes, and a treasure chest of some sort opening and a cloud of smoke emerging. It's an amazingly fascinating video that also ended up inspiring my final art project in college. Also, it got me into musician Nujabes, which is a plus. Claire
Haha, pretty much all I watch on YouTube are AFI videos and people explaining how awesome their Marshall guitar amps and Les Paul Studios are. And then I'm sad that I don't have any. Anyway. I do think this video is cute. Natalie Dee: Pretending If anyone is familiar with her website you know how random and weird her comedy is. Flo
Well as of now most of my favorite youtube video's revolve arounf the World of Warcraft. The Internet is For Porn is a rather funny video that you really don't have to play WOW to understand. The song itself is by Avenue Q. You do however have to know a little about WOW but, still if you know nothing its still funny.
Panda
Here are some random suggestions of videos I've seen on YouTube. Samurai Panda. Japanese commercial for a karaoke company. Just more proof how much pandas rock. The stuffed panda is really cute and kicks much behind. Katamari Damacy: The Movie. Completely random, so stupid it made me chuckle. Large groups of people running in terror is always a fun thing to watch. Tom Kills Oprah. It is a YouTube classic. It always makes me laugh. 300 - PG Version. "This is delicious!" I have a crazy amount of "pandas falling from..." videos saved but I'm pretty sure if you've seen one panda fall from a tree or playground equipment or walkway... then you've pretty much seen them all. Pandas sure to fall a lot.

Desbreko
I've been on YouTube quite a bit lately, but mostly uploading and checking up on my own videos. 2010DigitalBoy
Ah, ya'll brought out some of the classics! Nice. Well, I have 274 videos saved to my favorites, so it's not like I'm going to post them all. For the most part, I go for music. Many of my favorite bands I discovered from watching live performances and AMVs on youtube. I do have some other funny and/or random crap though... Totally Goth is my most recent favorite. I could listen to this 10 times a day XD All Your Base Smell Like Teen Spirit. There are thousands of renditions of allyourbase to various songs (well, I dont know about thousands) but this one is awesome. The guy's voice is simply too perfect. If you don't know allyourbase, (and why the hell don't you?!?!?!) it is required knowlege. AMV Comedians. this entire series is hilarious - basically these guys synched all these Naruto AMVs to comedians and most fit almost too well. Number 6 is by far the best and most famous, so I linked it. Eva Bohemian Rhapsody. This Eva AMV set to a live version of Bohemian Rhapsody is BY FAR the greatest AMV ever created. It's incomperable to anything. HUGE eva spoilers though, so I suggest you have seen it entirely, movie included. Still My Guitar Gently Weeps Ukelele. This is the most beautiful performance I have ever heard. This guy has an inhuman amount of skill. It's awe-inspiring as well as just plain inspiring. the Anthony and Ian Theme Collection. Ah, white kids. They come up with the stupidest but most entertaining things. Raiyuu
I found interpretive mime artist Johann Lippowitz through YouTube. Don't be put off, it's funny. My favourite is the mime he does for 'place' as in 'take me to the place where you go'. There are also videos of him miming to 'Torn' amd 'Wherever I Lay My Hat'. And I have to plug The Stannett Report because a) YouTube is in desperate need of some good old British humour that doesn't require foreknowledge of WoW, allyourbase or any other obscure game reference and b) because I'm in it. James
Very cool guys. Keep the suggestions coming! It's great to get recommendations for a site like YouTube...just browsing in a vaccuum can be annoying. Anyway, I thought I'd share some stuff related to my favourite music video director, Chris Cunningham. All is Full of Love - Bjork This is probably my favourite music video. It's probably tied only with Aphex Twin's Windowlicker. Despite the fact that this video apparently brought out the more ignorant members of YouTube in droves, it still stands on its own as being absolutely gorgeous - subtle, elegant and truly beautiful. It complements the music perfectly. I know OBers will appreciate it where others may not. Windowlicker - Aphex Twin A word of warning - there's a great deal of profanity and such in this video. So you watch at your own risk. This video was banned by MTV in the United States (though it was never banned here - in fact it still plays at night occasionally on MTV Australia or Channel V). Having said that, it is really designed to be a bit of a parody of various "gangsta" films (and really of the whole culture that goes along with it). Throw some random Michael Jackson moves in there and you have a pretty unique video. Funnily enough I like the mix of Windowlicker that the guys are playing in their car more than the actual track. There are also some funky hidden messages in this track - the high-pitched noise at the end actually produces an image when read by the right machine. Rubber Johnny This was originally intended to be a music video for Aphex Twin but became a short film. It actually won an award at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Basically it's about a boy called Johnny who is a hyperactive shape-shifting child. He's locked away in a dark room without light and with only his scared pet for company. This video pretty much shows how Johnny amuses himself when he's alone with his pet. It's a freaky video but it's actually supposed to be humorous (especially the way Johnny stops "performing" every time the door opens!) There are a bunch of other great Cunningham videos but I won't list them all here. For the uninitiated, Cunningham also did the clip for Madonna's single Frozen. So pretty much everyone's seen that.
2010DigitalBoy
Oh, James, you make me cry. And those even look like official videos too... Argh, lets see, well thanks to you guys I've now stumbled into an endless vault of Phoenix Wrong and OVER 9000!!! videos XD Also, I'm not providing any links since I'm sure they aren't aloud, but there are tons of videos of hot Japanese chacks making out on youtube that I feel deserve mentioning. Some of these girls kiss in ways that are hotter than sex... Getting off of that topic, my favorite part of youtube is being able to find songs by obscure bands such as Ensiferum and Prize Fighter Inferno and Shabutie and Maps and Atlases. Which reminds me, M&A has this one youtube-only video of the vocalist/guitarist Dave Davison playing the song The Ongoing Horrible. I mentioned it before in above thread I think... Also, while I don't wanna get into hyper AMV mode, a few deserve mentioning. Drunkship of Matrix (Caveat Emptor Synch) - Someone took clips from the Animatrix and synched them to the Mars Volta song Drunkship of Lanterns as well as the first half of Eriatarka. Since I seem to remember the Matrix being a pretty big thing on the OB, I figure you guys can appreciate it. This Evangelion Must Be Unearthed - Once more this is The Mars Volta with the song This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed. There are some Eva spoilers, but not much from the movie which is pretty cool cuz it has some less-used clips. One of my favorite AMVs and one of my favorite songs to my alltime favorite anime. Akira Trigger - This one is the movie akira to the song Delirium Trigger by Coheed and Cambria. The synch is almost too good, like they were meant for each other. Once more this is one of my favorite songs, too. Of course, Akira spoilers.
Treble
Here?s a cool video in which two expert Street Fighter Third Strike players duke it out at the EVO fighting tournament. Most likely, a lot of fighting fans have already seen it, but it?s always fun to watch it again. Just when it seems like Ken is going to lose, he parries all of Chun-Li?s Super move and wins the match. The fans surrounding the two players adds in a lot of excitement when they start cheering for the turnover. :) Ken vs Chun-Li (Shortened Version) Ken vs Chun-Li (Long Version; The final round of the first match)
2010DigitalBoy
Since this is the youtube thread and not just the senselessly post videos thread, I think it's a good place to talk about youtube itself. Has anyone else taken note of the recent major changes to the site? most of them completely suck! First of all, the little bubble that sat below the search bar is gone. No longer can I cick on my favorites from the main page, i now have to go through my profile. Yes, it's only one more click, but it's annoying as hell! Next, they now have a little 'videos being watched' thing which lines up 5 videos and aters between them. I've been to the site on 3 different computers since they made this addition and it's always been the same crap, so I don't know what the deal with that is. Just makes the site uglier. One thing I do like is the renovated search simplyy beacuse it looks prettier, but the other things are just so annoying... Then we've got the absolute worst thing yet that just started yesterday - unlike before where all the videos in my favorites were in chronological order of being saved, they're now all jumbled up in no apparent logical order. I hope this is fixed, because I know the exact location of every video in my 275 vid favorites and I don't want to have to hunt for them... EDIT: actually, this only seems to happen on certain pages... weird.

Both videos, though, actually have lots of humorous overtones to them. I like that Aphex Twin is made out to be so attractive that women immediately want to be around him (even though this is obviously not the case - although maybe his dance moves are enough to do it). Did you send up seeing the Bjork video? I'm using shots from that in my avatar/banner. It's definitely one of my favourite music videos. I think it shows that Chris Cunningham can be incredibly varied in his work - it's nothing like Windowlicker but it carries a few similar visual cues.
