Vanyel knew she should at least try to talk to people, but her instincts were to simply blend in and say nothing. Though trying to blend into this crazy place wasn't exactly easy. So instead she focused on the map and the you are here dot as it moved with her. Even though she was heading towards the library she figured it would be a good idea to at least check out the laundry mat. After all she'd need to wash her stuff since she was wearing her only clean outfit.

The room, when she came to it, didn't look all that big on the map but inside was another matter, it was clearly much bigger than the map indicated. It looked exactly like any laundry mat did, with machines all along the walls and several rows down the center, and just inside the door was a spot loaded with all the detergent and other things one would need. But even better was the realization that one didn't need coins to operate the machines. Who the hell pays for all of this?

Vanyel just shook her head and turned to leave narrowly avoiding bumping into some other people walking down the hallway, oblivious to her presence as they continued on as if nothing had happened. She watched them for a moment and then continued. Shrugging it off since she hadn't wanted to talk to them anyway. But Vanyel nearly jumped out of her skin when the dot for Shiana appeared right behind her on the map and she immediately spoke. Causing Vanyel whirl in surprise and nearly fall over if not for Shiana catching her outstretched hand to steady her.

"There you are," Shiana said after Vanyel regained her balance and she let go. "I swear, your thoughts are so damn quiet that finding you is a pain in the rear."

Vanyel could tell she was waiting for her to say something but she was still to startled to think, her heart pounding painfully. Shiana seemed to see it and finally sighed a bit.

"Sorry about that, I keep forgetting that you aren't use to people simply showing up like that. Anyway, I came to tell you that your beginner's care package has been left in your room. Most Espers bring their own clothing and other things that they'll need, but for those who didn't have a place to call home we take care of that for you."

Shiana smiled apologetically, "It won't be the latest styles and such I'm afraid, but still if you dislike the colors or anything you're welcome to come to me and we can do some trading."

With that she vanished. Damn! Vanyel thought. I hate how they do that. If only because she herself could not. Oh how much easier her life would have been if she had been able to teleport herself. I need to stick around, at least long enough to learn how to do that. Vanyel took a deep breath and then continued towards the library, stopping at her room to see just what Shiana had been talking about.

On her bed was a laundry basket full of stuff. More clothes than Vanyel had ever owned. She didn't care about the colors. She just neatly put them away in the drawers and then looked at the stuff on the bottom. Some basic stuff like shampoo, deodorant and other needs which she took and put away in the bathroom. Then at the very bottom was some sheets for the bed and another blanket. A moment to put that in the bottom drawer of the chest, set the basket at the end of the bed and she was done.

Now that she had clean clothing she wouldn't have to worry about doing laundry later that day and in the end Vanyel would rather explore a bit. Picking up her map she left again intent on making it to the library this time. Even if the room didn't look very big it would most likely at least have books on just what Espers were. A moment later she was there. The doors already open. Vanyel immediately walked in.

Nothing could have prepared her for the sight that met her eyes. Vanyel had no idea how it was even possible, but the library was massive. Easily bigger than the entire building had appeared from the outside when they first arrived. How is this possible? Vanyel didn't even realize that she was gawking until a kind voice spoke up.

"You must be new here," A female voice said.

Vanyel turned to face the dark haired woman standing close to her. She hadn't even heard her approach. Hesitantly she nodded to her.

"I thought so," the woman said. "Well my name is Sara and I'm one of the librarians here. Just come with me and I'll get you set up alright?"

Again Vanyel just nodded, following her to what appeared to be a checkout counter near the entrance. Still gawking at the sheer amount of books. It was both thrilling and intimidating at the same time.

Shiana and Chloe sat down in two of the four chairs that had been placed out here in the grass. Between the warm sun and the noisy bustle of the outdoors was a very serene feeling that could be placed as obscure for someone who wasn?t used to it. From a distance, Joe was turning his attention to the two. He smirked a little seeing the new girl sitting across from Shiana. It was an image he?d seen plenty of times - Shiana always tried to get the new people to join her class, but most didn?t last long at all. There were only 2 students who?d ever stuck around, and only one who was actually into it. The strange girl with the erratic teleportation powers had been her student for a good 4 months now.

The other member was Joe himself, who only pretended to be interested to make Shiana feel better. She knew this of course, but it was appreciated. Joe saw the teleporting girl suddenly appear in one of the chairs and figured it was about time that he headed over. He teleported himself there as well.

?Hey! It?s you!? Chloe exclaimed, pointing over at Joe. She seemed to be trying to pull his name out.

?Joe,? he said flatly with the same bored tone as always.

?Yeah! So you?re taking classes too? And I thought you were like the head honcho around here or something, but I guess Shiana?s even smarter than you??

?Now wait here?? Joe started, but Shiana interrupted him with a giggle.

?Well, you?d be right about that!?

?Hey?.?

?Anyway,? Shiana cut in again, ?we should now begin. And yes, it?s true, not even Joe knows how to do this skill - I?m the only master of it. And the only apprentice who?s any good is Clara here.? The rather shy seeming teleporting girl smiled and blushed a little at being mentioned. She was a very small girl and very skinny with long hair that was oddly white pulled into a ponytail. The glasses she wore barely fit on her tiny nose. She?d placed the novel she was reading under her chair and was sitting in full attention for her lesson.

?That reminds me,? Chloe announced, ?We haven?t introduced ourselves yet. My name?s Chloe, Chloe Verena.? Chloe stretched out her hand. Clara was a little slow in shaking it, appearing to be very shy.

?I?m Clara Reynolds. It?s? um? nice to meet you.? Joe found himself in a place entirely different with his thoughts.

?So, today, we start off with more simple practices since we have a new student. First things first, I?ll have to take us to the necessary location.?

?What do you mean? Didn?t you say your class was here??

?Well? you?ll see what I mean. Just close your eyes.? Chloe looked over at Joe and Clara who had already done so, and she closed her eyes slowly.

---

Chloe?s eyes opened onto a bit of scenery that she couldn?t have expected, or probably imagined. The floor their chairs were on now seemed to span on forever in all directions - it was hard and purple. Meanwhile the air around her had the feeling of being underwater - though the scenery seemed to be a reflection of the purple bouncing about the atmosphere, creating a sort of purple sky. It was the most confusing feeling she?d ever known, even beating out some of her dreams. The sensation was near overwhelming?

?Are you alright?? Shiana asked. The familiarity of her voice brought Chloe back into focus, though the fact that she could have sworn she was in the water made it seem strange.

?I?m fine, why?? Her voice was normal, but it felt odd in this surrounding.

?Some people burst into tears when they first arrive here?? Chloe looked all around her. The urge was welling inside her - she was beside herself - just then a hand grabbed onto her own. Chloe turned to face Clara, who?s soft hand was gripping hers.

?It?s alright. We won?t be here long,? she said in her faint voice.

?Correct,? Shiana interjected, ?I think an explanation is needed though. We haven?t actually moved at all physically. What I have done is move our minds to another plane of existence. Our bodies are right where we left them, but our thoughts are being enacted on this plane. Eventually, you will learn how to enter this plane on your own, but for now I?ll be opening the gateway for you. The importance of this particular realm is that it exists outside of our current time on our plane. Essentially, certain rules of time do not apply here. While we cannot move backward in time from here, we are free to move forward as far as our powers allow and easily return to this spot for me to take us back to our bodies. This is a difficult technique to master, but you can develop it carefully. For now, you will only be able to visually see the future, and you will only be able to see a little bit forward, but as your power progresses, you will be able to see farther and farther.

I want you to try and concentrate all of your mind onto the future. Try picturing someone that you know and think of what they?ll be doing ahead of now??

Chloe closed her eyes and thought of the first person that came to mind. After a moment she suddenly reopened them with a start.

?Xander! I left him in my purse!!!? She suddenly blurted. ?We gotta go back! I saw him, he was lonely!? Shiana was a little startled at the outburst, but she quickly went to work and the four found themselves re-awakening in their bodies. Chloe immediately reached for her purse and opened it, letting the little gecko crawl out into her pants and she pet it gently.

Shiana held her hand over her mouth and giggled while Clara laughed gently and peeked at the adorable creature. Joe stood up.

?Shiana,? he beckoned lightly. Shiana turned toward him seeing that his face was very serious. ?Can I speak to you a second?? Shiana stood as well, walking with Joe aside from the other two. She glanced back at the girls who were lost in chatter about the adorable lizard.

?Did you see it?? Joe asked sternly.

?I didn?t get the chance to look at all, why??

"Those nine kids..."

?When? No wait, first, what??

?That crappy old man, and about right now,? with that he pointed over to Chloe who suddenly disappeared. Shiana gasped and Clara jumped, having been startled. As a result, she accidentally teleported off as well.

?What the hell is going on?!? Shiana yelled at Joe.

?It?s that bastard??

Vanyel had been given a library card with her name on it - she couldn?t remember ever having a card with her name on it before. She had been gawking at the towering shelves of the fantasy books for several minutes that felt like several hours. Choosing only one seemed like it would be impossible - how this many books even existed was beyond her. These thoughts were cut short, though, when she was suddenly torn away from the library.

***

Shayla and Dusty were suddenly torn from the corridor; the same happened to Thomas, Julian and Cho as they wandered about; Levon was taken from his seat in the cafeteria where he?d felt too bloated to get up yet, and Dante was torn from his slumber.

All 9 of the new espers found themselves sitting in chairs in a large office. Across a huge wooden desk, sitting in his own gaudy throne-like chair, was the chairman of Esper Hall - Sir Liam Eldren.

?Hello, newcomers. I know it was sudden to take you all here, but please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Liam Eldren, leader of Esper Hall.? The old man was dressed in a fancy robe like the type a wizard in a fantasy novel would wear. ?I assume you all have been shown around by? Joe? and have gotten a look around as well as received a map of the school.?

?Watcha callin a school there, old man?? A younger man?s voice suddenly cut from the doorway behind everyone. Their heads turned to see three men stepping into the room, one being Joe. The guy in front wore a red hoodie and baggy jeans and looked to be in his mid-twenties. His hair was blonde with dark streaks and there was a cigarette between his lips. The third guy was sort of chubby and wore regular jeans and a t-shirt.

?Last I checked, Esper Hall was a community for people with special powers.? Already, it was obvious where this conversation was going, and the new guys were filled with either annoyance or the desire not to be there right now.

?You know our kind was meant for much more!? The old man shouted, ignoring the others entirely to engage his new foes.

?Stop pretending to be a king, you goddamn old coot!? Right in the middle of it all, Chloe suddenly shot up.

?Where the hell?s my purse?!?!? All 12 other heads turned to her. ?Xander!!!!? Chloe immediately ran over to Joe. ?Quick! Teleport me back!? Joe was a bit in surprise, but she took the girl?s hand and teleported them away. The room was silent a moment as the two young men turned back to the old guy, who was wearing an expression of pure annoyance. Shayla quickly rose to her feet.

?I think I was about to go sign up for a class or something. Good day to you boys.? She quickly began walking out the door, leading the others to get up and walk right out of the room. The two younger men turned once more to the old man, glaring at him with pure hatred before teleporting off.

Out of curiosity, Levon had taken out his map as soon as he was past the doors. As he'd suspected, they were on the top floor, which seemed to, oddly enough, be comprised only of that one room. There were no hallways outside, not even a landing - once you stepped out the doors you were on a stairway going down. Just more of the Hall's mysteries.

"Well, that was abrupt..." Levon said, tucking the map into his pocket and starting down the stairs to catch up with the rest of the group.

While his comment had been aimed generally, no one felt reason to respond, so the poorly-dressed procession made it's way down the stairs in silence. It must have been two hundred steps before they made it to the next floor, and half the group was already out of breath. Most of the group kept going downwards, drawing out their maps to find their way back to where they'd been, but a few stayed on the floor. Levon was one of these.

He drew his map out and scanned down the floors until he saw the cafeteria; easily twelve stories straight down from their location. He groaned audibly.

"This place is really weird." It was one of the others on the floor, a woman with dark hair and the closed air that Levon recognized instantly as belonging to someone with experience on the streets.

"Ya. Laws of physics don't apply here too much, eh? Wonder who built it." Levon was thinking outloud more than he was having a conversation; he was used to people not responding anyway. So he was somewhat surprised when she said:

"Probably someone with a lot of money." Something about the obviousness of that statement raised a chuckle from Levon.

Not willing to let the conversation slip into awkward silence, Levon said, "Well, my name's Levon LeVaughn." His face flushed a bit when she didn't respond, but he rescued himself, saying "You don't have to be so quiet, ya know... I was homeless too, I know what it's like." He smiled and hoped it was comforting.

"Vanyel Ashkevron," she said, smiling back.

Thomas felt awkward in front of tethers. He had no friends so he felt like an outcast? again. Chocolate was laughing inside of Thomas. ?Hey look Tommy, it?s Merlin!? Chocolate joked. Thomas shook his head. ?Damn it Chocolate, can?t you ever be nice?? Thomas asked. He was unaware that he accidently said that out loud.

?Who?s chocolate?? One of them asked. Thomas just smiled. ?umm, I have this power to make things from my mind real. Chocolate?s just someone I created.? Just then out from his ear came chocolate. He stood on his two hind legs and looked at everybody. ?Whoa, talk about a crowd!" He shouted. The others were still staring at Thomas. He shrugged. ?What? So he?s sarcastic.? chocolate hit Thomas on the head. ?Shaddup! Nice place you got here Merlin!? Chocolate said loud. Thomas looked at the chairman.?

"sorry about that sir, he?s just being rude.?

The chairman just nodded. ?That?s okay, just keep him quiet.? Chocolate just jumped back into Thomas? head, without a word.

?Remember that you are here not only to grow your powers. But your also here to learn. Knowledge is after all, the key to life.?

Chocolate was nodding his head inside of Thomas? head. ?No wonder they call him a bastard. Who needs knowledge when ya got good looks, like me??

Thomas shook his head again. He wished that Chocolate would shut his mouth. Thomas had to make some crucial decisions here. Would he try to befriend all of them, or befriend none of them. All he wants is interacting, besides Chocolate that is. Am what would he make out of this Liam fellow. Would Thomas join him or not?

(OoC: Soon I'm going to make Thomas talk about his past and make him open up to the others. I don't wane him to be a sad sack all the time.)

Vanyel had been clutching her new library card in her right hand, gawking at the sheer amount of books to choose from. When without warning for a split second she felt as if something had flattened her, it was the oddest feeling. But it happened so fast that if not for finding herself suddenly sitting in a chair in a completely different room with the other people who had been on the bus with her, she would have thought she imagined it.

Just as Vanyel had never expected to end up in this bizarre place or that rooms could be bigger on the inside than they were on the outside. She had never in her wildest dreams imagined that someone could transport her against her will. And the realization that someone had caused her to freeze in fear, her library card falling to the floor as it slipped from her numb fingers. Hell!

If not for the fact that the person spoke up immediately, declaring himself to be Liam Eldren, the leader of Esper Hall, Vanyel would have lost what little control she had over her ability to start fires. And even then only the sudden interruption by completely new people kept it from happening. Within moments of the adults arguing Vanyel could see that some of the others who had arrived at the same time she did were angry, but she only wished to get the hell out of that room. Nothing good ever came from adults arguing. And the moment the girl Shayla got up and left she seized the opportunity to go with her. Relieved to finally be out of that room.

It wasn't until they made it down the first set of stairs that she had regained her composure enough to speak. And even then she had not expected Levon LeVaughn to actually respond. She had been talking more to herself than anything else. Still, even if she hated talking to strangers, it was slightly reassuring to hear someone else's voice. Something that in the end had her smiling a tiny bit.

But before they could start down the next set of stairs a realization hit her. "Shit!" Vanyel swore. Even as she checked her pockets frantically.

"What is it? You lose something?" Levon inquired even as he started looking around to see if there was anything on the floor.

Vanyel shot him an strange look. "I must have dropped it. Dammit! I have to go back and get it!"

"What did you drop?" Levon asked. "I'll help you look if you want."

But Vanyel was not listening, she had already started running back up the stairs. The librarian Sara had told her that if she wanted to check out books that she had to have that card. How could she have been so careless? It never occurred to Vanyel that she could get another card. All she knew was that she had lost it and that she had to find it.

"Oi! Vanyel!" Levon called after her, but Vanyel was still too busy heading up the stairs. "Man... What could be so important that she'd climb all those stairs?" Levon finally shrugged and continued to head down the stairs once he could no longer see Vanyel.

It didn't take her long, after all living on the streets had kept her in shape. But still Vanyel stopped for a moment to catch her breath before opening the door a bit. Sure enough right next to the chair she had been sitting in was the card Sara had given her. But more importantly, it seemed that Liam Eldren was still sitting at his desk. Vanyel swore under her breath and then focused on the card. There was no way she was going to enter the room by herself, but she could simply transport the card.

"That's hardly necessary Vanyel, you're welcome to simply come in and get your card." Liam spoke out causing Vanyel to jump. "Though I suppose it's probably good practice."

Slowly Vanyel pushed the door open to find Liam watching her with an amused look on his face. Damn if that isn't...

"Annoying that we can hear your thoughts?" Liam finished for her.

Stung Vanyel stepped back a bit. Tempted to simply forget the card and leave.

"Now, now, don't be like that. Esper Hall is meant for people like yourself." Liam said with a more serious look. "Besides, considering that you taught yourself, your shield is actually pretty good, but like Joe told you, we can show you how to do it better. As well as teaching you to teleport yourself among other things."

Vanyel didn't know what to say. Yes it was true, she did want to learn to teleport herself as well as eventually learn how to block everyone from her mind, but still. It's wrong to...

"Transport others without asking?" Liam finished for her again. "Nonsense. There will be times when transporting someone without asking could save their lives. But I can see that right now you don't understand that yet."

Liam looked at her thoughtfully, "Still perhaps an example would work best. There are lots of reasons why transporting someone else is useful. We can always discuss things later when you've learned a little more."

Then without warning Vanyel found herself back on the lowest level of Esper Hall, her library card in hand. What the hell? That time she hadn't even felt the strange feeling of being flattened. But a split second later an odd feeling entered her head, making her feel as if she was not alone. What?

See? Liam's voice echoed in her head. Wasn't that far easier than walking down all those stairs? Then the feeling that someone was in her mind vanished.

She shook her head, still uncertain of what to think. When she finally looked up Vanyel didn't need her map to see where she was. Right in front of her was the door to the library. I still need to sign up for basic English, Math and Writing. She had planned on doing that after looking around a bit. I guess I should sign up first and then I can look at the books. Decided she went to look for the librarian Sara.

Thursday 1:30pm

Dante Followed the ohers untill they all got back to the ground floor. He took out his map and decided to make his way to the courtyard and hopefully be on time for the teleporting class.

I wonder how many ot the other new guys have signed up for classes. he thought to himself as he turned down a hallway to his left and walked into the library. Damn there are a lot of books in this place. he thought.

"Shhhh!!!!!!"

The voice seemed to come from every direction at once. "Please keep your voice and thoughts quite in the library." said the voice again. Dante just continued on out into the court yard. The courtyard was a vary large open area with small gardens spaced around the edges, and a large fountian in the middle with smaller ones scattered about. Sure is big enough for teleporting practice Dante thought. He decided to go and sit near the fountain and wait for everyone to show up . While he waited he saw many diffrent people walking around, all going about their activities, as he watched them he began to hear a small background noise. At first it seemed like a quite humming, but it began to build as he sat there, and before he knew it the noise was overwhelming. Suddenly it was gone. Thats when he noticed people coming his way, they all looked like they had been there alot longer than he had.

"Looks like theres finally a new guy brave enough to take this class." One of them said.

"Whats so bad about this class?" Dante asked.

"It's just the toughest class for teleporting there is at Esper Hall." One of the others said.

"And why is that?"

"Because the teacher is a real ***** and doesn't like people that can't handle the pressure of the class."

What have you gotten yourself into now Dante thought to himself.

Dante had been waiting by the fountain with the others for half an hour now, it seemed like as if the teacher would never show up. The others didn't seem to care they were all just standing around talking like this was an every day thing.

"Hey is he always late to class?" Dante asked, not speaking to anyone inperticular. "Yeah." is all they said.

About ten minutes later Dante saw someone walking into the courtyard, he looked nothing like a teacher, he was dressed very casualy in baggy jeans and a T-shirt that had a band on it that Dante had never heard of.

"Okay class time to get started." he said.

"Ah, looks like we got a new face in the class." he said turning towards Dante.

"Okay class work on what we did yesterday while I go and start the new guy off."

He walked over to were Dante was standing and sat down on the fountain.

"My name is Dorian, welcome to the your first teleporting class. Do you already have any teleporting abilities or are you completely new at this?"

"New at this."

"Okay then, we will have to get you to activate you inner powers to allow you to be able to teleport. So I hope your up for this."

"How bad could it be." Dante said calmly.

Dorian just laughed a little and stood up. Then suddenly Dante found himself on top of a cliff that had to be at least a thousand foot high.

"Where the hell am I!" Dante screamed.

"Part 1 of your class." said Dorian "Your power has to be awakened by extreme situation, so I brought you here. You will have to teleport to save yourself." Dorian stated coldly.

"wha..."

suddenly Dante felt a force hit him in the chest and he went off the edge of the cliff.

I knew I should have just stayed in my room, why did I have to go and sign up for classes. The ground was getting very close very fast.

He can't let me die Dante thought. He is the teacher he won't let me hit the ground.

The next thing Dante saw was his face hit the ground and then all was black. Dante woke up back in the courtyard feeling as if he had been hit by a train.

"Didn't think I would let you hit the ground did you." said Dorian begining to laugh.

"What the Hell! I could have died just now." Dante shouted.

"Calm down man it was perfectly safe I brought you back before your body received the full force of the impact. I do this with every student that comes here they all think that since I am the teacher that I can't let anything happen to them. Wrong. I am not a teacher I am just the guy that is telling how to do something, that is why noone calls me Mr. Dorian. Thats it for todays class, you will need some time to heal so I will teleport you back to your room."

With that Dante found himself back in his room. He couldn't move any of his body, it felt like every bone in his body was broken. Dante just lay there untill he slipt into sleep.

This "garden" is in an awfully strange place... Cho thought as she headed down yet another dimly-lit flight of stairs. According to this map, it should be just ahead. Who puts a garden underground anyway? I don't think I wanna know what kind of things can grow down here... Maybe I should just go back up... Just then, a faint glimmer of light caught her eye. ...the hell?? That wasn't there a second ago... was it?

Cho approached the intricately decorated door that she thought the glow had originated from. The door was nothing like anything Cho had ever seen, covered with a painting of an intricately wrought iron gate and the flower-filled garden beyond it. The sunlight dancing on the little brook running around the garden, the leaves of the trees fluttering in the breeze, and the bees buzzing about the flowers were rendered in such intricate detail that she could almost swear that she was looking out at a real garden. The gate pulsed with light. Holy..! What the hell IS this thing??Her mind raced frantically, trying to make sense of what had just happened There's no way this thing just lit up like a bloody firefly! No way at all! ... But it has to have. I'm standing right here, and I saw it. I did! I'm not going crazy. I don't think.. but what if I am....... The painting pulsed again, almost as if beckoning her to come closer. Cho lifted her hand toward the door, trying to ignore its shaking, and ever so lightly laid her hand against the door, not so sure that it was actually a painting that she was looking at.

The instant Cho's hand touched the door, the light intensified, and the door swung open onto the same scene that she had just seen on the door. A few apprehensive steps later, Cho stepped through the door onto a carpet of sweet-smelling clover and looked around her...

She was sitting in a hard, straight-backed wooden chair staring at a absurdly dressed, wrinkled old man sitting on what could only be described as a throne. What the?!? What just.. As the old man began to speak, Cho stopped worrying about where she was and how she'd gotten there, and started trying to keep herself from bursting into laughter. Not only were the old man's clothes and office incredibly gaudy, but the way he talked! It was like a bad imitation of Sean Connery! This guy is so full of it... She looked down at her map. Wow, how far up IS this place? Who does this dude think he is? Rapunzel?? I wonder if I could just leave.. this guy would probably keep talking just to hear himself anyway.. As Cho was preparing to slip out of her seat, Joe spoke up from the doorway. This could be interesting... maybe I'll stick around a little longer.

*************

About three floors down from the old man's needlessly gilded tower office, Cho looked at the hardwood banister she'd been trailing her hand along. Hmmm... I bet I could... After a moment's contemplation, she grasped the railing with both hands and swung her leg over. Hey! Guys! She yelled to the group she'd been walking with, now about half a level below her. Watch this! And let go. The banister sloped at a pretty sharp angle, and she soon passed everyone else on the stairs, whizzing past window after window at an alarming pace. As the bottom of the staircase came into view, Cho thought Maybe I should have thought about how I was gonna stop...

Hmm... you think?? A dry voice cut in. It was Raj.

I thought I told you not to talk to me when I was in here.. somebody might hear you.

Well you didn't.

Ok... well, don't. You never know who might be listening in... Besides; I should probably start talking to some actual people around here... I'll never find out anything useful if I just talk to you all the time.

...Very funny.

Oh, shi!! The banister had ended, and Cho half jumped, half fell off of it, landing on the floor a few feet from the foot of the stairs. Well that was fun! See? I told you I'd be fine!

Humph! Well don't come crying to me when you break your neck.

Like that would happen.. now seriously... no more for now, ok? I'll come see you tomorrow.

Who were you talking to?
Cho jumped. Quickly recovering from her shock, she shot back Well I think the more important question is who I'm talking to NOW

You don't remember me? When we met only minutes ago?

Oh. It's you. I didn't recognise your voice without the cheesy accent. Besides that, who I talk to is my business, not yours, so get out of my head.

Very well then, but if you ever want to talk...

unlikely...

Shaken, Cho leaned against the nearest wall and slid to the ground.
"Are you ok? You looked like you were going pretty fast. You didn't get hurt or anything did you?" a voice said.

"Oh! Yeah, I'm fine.. Uh, you're Shayla, right?"

"Yeah, but people usually call me Shay. This is Dusty," she said, indicating the girl standing beside her.

"Right.. Shay. Got it. And Dusty. Are you guys signed up for any classes yet? I saw a huge pool when I was wandering around earlier and was thinking I'd go check it out if I could find someone to go with. You guys in?"

OOC: Well?
Also OOC: DB, if you don't like the accent bit I'll take it out...

Thomas had walked around looking for his telepathy class. He saw the door all the way down the hall. Chocolate - who was sitting on his head - was silent. He must have been sick not to have taked at all. "What's the matter Chocolate?" Thomas asked. "Oh, tommy... I've been feeling sick ever since we met that Liam guy. I think I might just disapear." with that Chocolate went back into Thomas' head.

He walked into class, non-chalant. Everyone was standing, there wasn't a single chair or desk in sight, besdies the teacher's.

The teacher was a midget, but helooked strong. He used his mind to wrtie his name on the board. 'Mr. Waber' was his name. He had a beard that went down to his chest and his sideburns weren't well shaved. "Welcome to telekonesis class. If you agree with Joe that it isn't a school, keep your mouth shut. I hate that guy with every fiber of my being. Same with that bastard." Mr. waber didn't seem ike a charm, as he talked like some kind of jerk.

"What an old prick." One of the students whispred.

Thomas went into his thoughts. This guy is going to be a pain, eh Chocolate?

Chocolate didn't answer. Thomas searched his head for Chocolate, but he was gone.[/navy]

In the meantime, Julian was laying on his bed, boredly breezing through a game of Solitaire on his iPod. Holding the thin black device in his hand, he felt a bit self conscious. He had seen all the people here who seemed to be homeless, and he knew how different he was from them.

After all, his family was slightly wealthier than most.

There came a sudden knock at his door. He chose to ignore it, hoping that whoever it was would figure the room was empty and leave. However, the door swung open, and Joe peeked his head in.

"Julian? What are you doing in here?" he asked. Julian nearly scowled, but managed to keep the expression mental.

"Resting," he replied, glancing back at his game.

Joe frowned. "Did you sign up for any classes?"

"No."

"Well, why not? Don't you want to learn new abilities, or improve the ones you already have?"

Julian finished the game and turned the iPod off. "Not really," he shrugged.

Joe arched his eyebrows, almost indignantly. "You should at least get to know your fellow espers."

"I like solitude." Julian sat up. "Besides, I have a headache. You shouldn't rip people out of one place and drop them in another unexpectedly."

A smile twitched slightly on Joe's face; this was the most Julian had said since his arrival. Even if it was a brief complaint.

"Well, if you don't spend less time in your room, it might happen often," Joe warned, then walked away without closing the door.

Julian sighed and fell back on the bed, glancing toward the makeshift curtains he created out of newspapers he found in a rack in the library. He thought for a moment; it couldn't hurt to find something else to do, I guess.

He checked himself in the mirror before leaving the room and heading back to the library.

Just something about that office had made Shayla uneasy. Not too surprising, however, she hated the feeling of being analyzed. She just didn't care if these people had an interest in her, and that old man? Urgh, creepy. Just had to get out of there. The old "I gotta do something" trick worked well. But, yet, what the hell was the point of transporting all of those people up there in the first place?

Hey, at least she hadn't been separated from Dusty.

And, what's this?
"Right.. Shay. Got it. And Dusty. Are you guys signed up for any classes yet? I saw a huge pool when I was wandering around earlier and was thinking I'd go check it out if I could find someone to go with. You guys in?" The crazy girl that had slid down the stair banister.

"Actually, I haven't signed up for classes yet. We were on our way when we were, sort of, well... teleported," Dusty replied.

"And I just plain don't plan on signing up for classes," Shayla yawned. "Oh, and not to sound rude, but what's your name?"

"Just call me Cho... hey, so, why don't you wanna be in a class?" Cho asked.

"I've already had someone train me, so I don't really need help with mastering my powers, or whatever," Shayla said nonchalantly. "I mainly came here for the free food and board."

"Pff, freeloader," Dusty teased. Shayla just looked down at her and pulled her hair lightly.

"Quiet, you. So. Pool or classes? I vote pool. But, just to warn you, I don't have a swimming suit. And we all know what that means: skinny dipping!" Shayla exclaimed, but she stuck out her tongue. "Yeah right, I'm not going swimming, period."

Levon hadn't waited long to see if Vanyel would return. He figured they'd probably run into each other at some point later on anyway, and the cafeteria might still be serving - there was no time to stand around when there's free food to eat!

So down the stairs he went, periodically checking his map to see how many more flights to go, before reaching the correct floor sweating and out of breath. It couldn't have been more than four-hundred steps in all, but to Levon it felt like climbing the Temple of the Sun and the Moon. However, he didn't stop to rest, but pressed on in the direction of the cafeteria, navigating the crowds deftly.

He found the cafeteria largely as he'd left it, which was disappointing because he'd hoped the line would have diminished by now. Regardless, he took his place and than took his food, finding a table near a window to sit at. The view, even from the third floor, managed to be dizzyingly high, so Levon stared at the wall while he ate. He noticed the crowd was much denser along that wall.

That meal - which was as large as the three he'd enjoyed previously - finished, he decided to go and check out what the fuss along the wall was. Rather than shove his way through the crowd, he bent the light around it, allowing him to see right through them. There was a bulletin board, covered in white sheets with big bold titles and slots to write you're name; classes, Levon speculated, as the words began to come into focus.

He briefly wondered whether or not he should sign up for something, or if he should go back to his room and have a nap. He scanned the crowd of paper's from names that caught his attention. He dwelled on teleportation for a moment, but the paper that he was interested in most read simply - Audio/Visual Club for the Thusly Inclined. Despite the awkward title, it seemed like something Levon was interested in - he'd been a big fan of cinema ever since he spent a week sleeping in a dark corner of a movie theatre.

That done, Levon fought his way through the clouds and back up to his room. He needed a rest.

It had certainly been an interesting morning. The big guy, Liam, seemed to be nice enough but no one here seemed to like him. Even as she contemplated it herself, she thought about how he had rudely teleported her away from Xander and the others.

But in the end, Chloe didn't like to make assumptions about people and she decided to give him a second chance. But next time, if he didn't bother to teleport Xander as well, she might just have to give him a swift kick in the face!

Her class with Shiana was very interesting, actually, and it surprised Chloe at how intrigued she was once the class was over. After another trip to the "Realm of Time," as Clara called it, Chloe was aware of what was being served for dinner as well as what her mother was going to be doing that evening. After the pathetic vision of her mother's future, Chloe decided that she'd have to give her a call. Then, she was briefed on the three aspects of Clairvoyance that Shina's class worked to improve.

1) Traveling to the "Realm of Time" by herself
2) Increasing how far into the future she can see, and
3) Knowing how to saftely change details of the present to effect the outcome of the future.

The third aspect was the most interesting to Chloe. The fact that she would be able to change the future would be an excellent ability to develop. Shiana materialized a small book about 100 pages long on different times and warnings of changing the future; when to do it, when to avoid it, and how you would go about changing a situation without destroying somebody's life.

It truly was a prestigious class and would be very difficult. Even Shiana admitted that she had only meddled with time once. And even with her extensive training and mastery of the subject, it led to a series of crisis at Esper Hall a few years back.

When the class had ended, it was back to the local drama of Esper Hall. Joe made certain that she was briefed on Liam:

"I'm sorry about that bastard teleporting all of you over there," he said.

"It's no big deal. I would have liked to hear what he was going to say though. She responded, feeding another cricket to Xander, who chirped approvingly

"It was his same old nonsense about how Esper Hall is a school, and that all of you are meant for something more... He practically wants to force greatness on everyone,"

"What's wrong with a little encouragement?" Chloe was walking towards the forested area, hoping to find a peaceful spot to rest after Joe was done talking.

"Nothing's wrong with encouragement, but it's like he's trying to rally everybody into an army. That's not the purpose of Esper Hall."

"Well, just what is the purpose of Esper Hall? I get that we're here to learn control, but if it's not really a school, then why even have a community for Espers."

"I thought your mom would have told you: When Liam took over as the leader of the community, he wanted to make it into a school and only allow the best of the best to get in; almost like a college. Your father was one of the leading forces against his suggestions. Your dad, along with the majority of the community, believed that Esper Hall should be a Safe Haven for anyone and everyone who needed a place to call home. If it weren't for him, your mom wouldn't have gotten a job here, and you probably wouldn't be standing here with me." Joe went on to explain that Esper Hall is different for everyone. It's a school to people like Liam, a training facility to the people who need control, a school and shelter to the homeless and less fortunate, and for Chloe, Esper Hall is a way for her to connect with her father.

And then he decided to leave. Chloe had found a good resting spot on the trunk of a fallen tree. The spot was perfectly shaded, and warm enough for Xander to go exploring. Chloe began thinking about all the information that Joe had said and immediately decided that her dad had good judgement (despite her never meeting him) and took back Liam's second chance.

Just as Joe was beginning to teleport, "Don't stay there too long or you'll miss out on dinner."

"Are you kidding? I've seen what we're having, and there's no way I'm going near that food!"

As she contemplated everything in the warmth of the forest, resting against the tree trunk, she drifted off to sleep.

Friday 4:00pm

Dante slowly opened his eyes and looked at the clock he didn't remember being on the nightstand by his bed, the readout said four o'clock.

Damn that fall really took alot out of me.Wait a minute, my other class is starting. I better get down there.

Dante jumped out of the bed and pulled out his map. He went out the door and followed the map towards the library, running all the way there. When he got there he saw few people there, he walked around a bit trying to find someone who was in the class. He went down a row of particularly old books. He browsed the covers of the books and saw one that said Perciaving future events for those disinclined at it.
What the Hell.Dante thought.

He picked up the book and instantly felt a pulse of energy shoot throughout his entire body. He saw someone walk up to him and say "Are you looking for the elements class? Dante was about to answer when the person disapperead. He just stared in confusion in the direction of where the person was. A few seconds later the person walked around the corner and before she could ask the question Dante said "Yeah I'm looking for the elements class."

She just stared at him for a second and then said "Follow me then."

Dante followed her through a series of rows of books until they came into an open area with a staircase leading up, he folllowed her up the stairs. When they reached the top of the stairs Dante could see other people up there, he went to where they all were sitting and took a seat by them. He didn't recognize anyone at first, then he saw that girl from the office, the one that had wanted to be taken back for her gecko. Hey theres that Chloe girl. Dante thought.

The class started soon after that. The teacher's name was Mr. Anderson and seemed fairly ordinary, he were a dress shirt and tie.

Okay class since there are two new people joining us today we will review the basics of contoling the elements. First we shall work with water, the key to working with water is to keep you mind empty of wondering thoughts. Water requires a calm mind and body so it is best if we start by meditating, so everyone please sit in the floor and close your eyes.

Just as he was saying this one of the older kids, created a ball of fire near the sprinkler system, setting the hole thing off and drenching everyone in water.

There you go Mr. Anderson all the water you could want.

The comment brought a few laughs from the kids closest to him. Mr. Anderson just turned around and looked at the boy. All of a sudden the water stopped coming from the sprinklers, all the water that was on the floor started moving towards the boy. It began covering the boys entire body, once it had covered every inch of his body it suddenly hardened into ice.

Now, where was I.

Vanyel had gotten over her initial surprise and fear from what had happened. If only because the idea of leaving such a huge library as well as having her own room and not worrying about food, was something that was mind boggling. The idea that anyone could afford a place like this was beyond her. And as she carried the small stack of books she had gotten back to her room she decided that she was going to stay. Even if she wasn't sure what to think about Liam.

She had to learn how to transport herself and Vanyel didn't know of any other place that could do that. Vanyel was so lost in her thoughts about the basic classes she would start in the mornings in the library that she wasn't paying any attention to where she was going. At least not totally. So she was not expecting to go around the corner and run into one of the other's who was new like she was. And though the collision wasn't that great it did result in her books going everywhere.

"Sorry." Julian, at least that's what she thought his name was, said. Vanyel just watched him as he helped her pick the books back up and then handed them to her.

"Math and English huh? I didn't think they'd be teaching stuff like that here."

Vanyel felt herself turn a little red, even if Levon had said he had been homeless, she was probably the only one who had next to no schooling. She couldn't help but feel self conscious. It's not my fault she thought angrily.

Julian seemed to realize that he had said something that touched a nerve as he quickly changed the subject, "Uh yeah, about the classes, have you signed up for any yet?"

"No, but the librarian Sara said there's a teleporting class being held in front of Esper Hall at 4:30 pm. It's being taught by a Miss Rose." Vanyel paused for a moment and then continued.

"I'm going to it, you can always come too if you want."

Julian shrugged. "I'll think about it. Anyway... Sorry again for bumping into you."

Vanyel watched as he continued towards the library and then she turned and headed to her room. She wanted to put the books away before she headed out to the class. I need a way to keep track of the time. A long time ago she had stolen a watch, but when it broke she never bothered to get another one.

She continued on her way until she came to the door to her room. Vanyel opened it and entered, taking a seat at the desk, neatly placing the books the librarian had given her for the class in the morning on basing reading, writing and math. Then she put the two fantasy novels she had picked out down as well.

Curious she opened the drawers to the desk, the top one was filled with different types of pencils and pens as well as other supplies. The next had different types of paper for writing. Well that's handy, I won't have to ask anyone for stuff. Though a part of her was still feeling rather self conscious at having so much provided for her.

With an audiable sigh she got up and went into the bathroom to take a moment to clean up. Then once the clock on the wall was at about 4:20 pm she left to head for the teleporting class.

"There are many elements, as I'm sure most of you are familiar with the Periodic table." Mr. Anderson was walking around the outside of the circle of chairs.
"However, it's been ruled that controling elements on just a fine level, such as hydrogen or gold, is impossible. To control an element, you need force of mind to combine the elements into something that can be used."

After seeing his display over water and ice, Chloe was determined not to let Mr. Anderson down. He continued. "The basic chinese elements, which have even been icorperated into horoscopes, include Earth, Fire, Water, Metal, and Wood."

The last element caught her attention, since she had alwasy been wondering if she were able to use that ability.

"The ability to control each of these elements is known as Terrakinesis, Pyrokinesis, hydrokinesis, and so on. When you get more in depth, you are able to combine the power over kinetic energy with, just for an example, hydrokinesis in order to create Cryokinesis: The ablitly to control Ice, as you have just whitnessed." He finished, indicating the young man still frozen solid, but at least he was beginning to melt.

Mr. Anderson went on to talk about the many different levels of -kinesis and which ones were covered in his class.

"Some are naturally inclined to control a specific element," he explained, "While others can control all of them and some can't even fully control one basic element. To find out which ones you have a talent for, we'll be covering each element in this book."

He passed out a book to both Dante and Chloe since they were the new kids in class. It seemed to be much larger than the book she'd received from Shiana, but far less complicated.

When the bell rang, Dante approached her, "Some teacher, huh?"

"Yeah. His methods are a bit over the top. I don't know if I'll stay in there or not." Chloe replied politely. She had never been one for much violence

"Well, I just hope I can hone a few of my kinetic skills before Mr. Anderson loses it."

"He does look like a mad scientist, doesn't he?"

The two exchanged a few laughs before, "I'm Dante, by the way."

"Chloe Verena. I believe we have seen each other on the bus."

The two chatted happily, except for when they walked through the library, before they finally seperated. Dante left to check out the community, and Chloe decided to sit down and explore the library and her new books a bit more.

Only a few minutes into the exploration of the elements, a young man sat down across from her at the same table. He had a large stack of books, but it didn't seem to bother him.

"Did you read all of those?" she whispered. The man moved a stack of book to his right in order to clearly see her face. She realized that it was the same man from earlier today who showed up with Joe and the fat guy in Liam's office.

"Yes. Speed reading is an understatement for most espers here. I like to keep up on my studies." he replied with a deep husky voice.

"Why don't you just take a class?"

"I find that nothing's more rewarding than learning something on your own," he replied with a small grin. He had surprisingly white teeth considering the cigarette that he'd been smoking when Chloe had first seen him. "Plus, I'm not the type for classes."

"I'm Chloe, by the way." She held out her hand over the stack of books

"I know. You're Alfed and Amelia's daughter. And you're new here. The name's Jacob Sanders, but I go by Jake."

"It's nice to meet you," She said as they shook hands. Chloe was genuinely interested in this guy. His short blonde hair, crooked smile, and interesting personality really left Chloe in awe.

The two whispered back and forth for about 10 minutes, and were interupted several times by the librarian who told them to be quiet. Then it was time for Chloe to leave; she'd left Xander up in her room and it was time for his dinner.

"Well, I'll see you around," Jake called to her as she stood.

"Yeah, maybe."

"Well, if you want to get together later tonight, There's a group of people who go flying every night at midnight, if you want to come.

"I thought you don't believe in Esper Hall being a school."

"I don't, but this is more of a club anyway. We call ourselves twilight since we...

"Yeah yeah, I get it," she interrupted him. "I can't really fly, though."

"Don't worry. I can show you the ropes." That smile of his grew even bigger at this.

"Okay, I'll be there." she finished, heading back with her stack of books for studying and reading. In less than a day, the silver-haired girl had found herslef in two classes, one club, and a million books to read.

How could this happen? Whatever happened to taking it easy? She though, but they left her head almost immediately. At least I'll have something to talk to mom about when I decide to call.

..."Yeah right, I'm not going swimming, period."

"Well It's not like there's some rule about having to swim at a swimming pool.. the name is most misleading." Cho looked over at Dusty "Well, Dusty? How about it?"

"Uh... well, I don't know... Dusty said hesitantly I should probably go to class...."

"Oh come on! It'll be fun! Besides, your class has probably started anyway, am I right?"

"Well," Dusty said, looking at her watch "Yeah, I guess it has..."

"So it's settled then. Your class has already started, Shay hasn't signed up for anything, and I have had more than enough weirdness for one day, so... Cho pulled her map from her back pocket and glanced at it for a moment, then headed off down a corridor. "The pool's this way. You coming?"

*************
A few hours later, all three girls were laying on loungers beside the pool, soaking up the afternoon sun.
"This place is awesome!" Cho said. "I mean, how many pools come with free designer swimsuits?? she said, looking down at the suit she'd picked from the huge selection in the pool's massive locker room.

Dusty glanced over at Shay, who was, pencil in hand, completing yet another sketch of some bit of the scenery surrounding them "Yeah.. This place is pretty awesome, isn't it? Shay hasn't stopped drawing since she sat down!"

"No, she hasn't... I didn't think she was serious about that not swimming thing... guess she was, huh?" Cho looked down at her watch, which she always kept on 24-hour time. It read 17:04. "Wow.. we've been out here for four hours."
h
Dusty sat up from her recliner. "Four? Really? No wonder... I think I'm gonna go get some dinner. I'm starving!

Shay closed her sketchbook with a snap. "I'm getting pretty hungry too, so I guess I'll go with you." She shot an odd look at Cho "What about you?"

"Um.. no.. I think I'll swim a few more laps. You two go.. I'll catch up with you later."

Shay, with a smile, "Ok.. we'll see you. Let's go, Dusty."

"Right.. Bye Cho."

"Bye..." Cho, slightly confused, stood up and walked toward the pool. As she dove in, she wondered Ok.. what was with that look anyway?Did Shay want me to go with them or not? Blah.. this is why I don't hang out with girls a lot... Oh well.. I'll figure it out later.

?Cut cut cut cut cut you up?? Julian was lightly singing along to the music coming into his ears through his iPod while he read the book he?d gotten from the library. He couldn?t concentrate too much on it for his thoughts were on the oddities he?d encountered at this place - and why did he seem to bump into so many people?! He glanced down at his watch.

?Six thirty? ?really?? He had lost himself completely in in the words of Poe and the voice of Davy Havoc - well, now he knew there was no chance of making it to that teleporting class. For a moment he wondered if that girl might be disappointed. Oh well; he decided to head out and find some food.

***

Vanyel was walking around her room. Having left class an hour ago, she?d spent a while studying reading, but now she was walking about a bit anxiously. Every few seconds she?d disappear for a split second to reappear in the same place. She was practicing teleportation.

?You have an extraordinary learning ability,? the teacher had told her, and assured her wholeheartedly that she would come to learn her powers in mere weeks. Vanyel had admittedly been a bit excited that she was considered exceptional and was hyped for her practice.

***

Dante had spent the past 30 minutes staring at a plant. After his elements class he had gone and eaten, spending the whole time staring at his water. Now he was utterly focused on this small potted plant on his windowsill. Or rather, his concentration was on the soil that it?s roots grew from. He had smelled it, tasted in, felt it, and was staring at it intently. He had truly become one with the dirt, so why wouldn?t it move for him?! His mind was strained. Just then, a few little specs of dirt rolled.

Dante was shocked. ?Did I?? he looked at it closer and more intently, focusing as hard as he could on the dirt. A whole clod of dirt turned over! ?YES!!!!? Dante through his fist in the air and swelled with joy.

Levon hadn?t expected to sleep as long as he did, but he felt rested and ready to take on the day. That is, until he stood up and felt his 4 meals churn in his gut hideously. He was lucky that the club he planned to visit didn?t some together until 10 PM. It was probably their own way of weeding out those they didn?t feel worthy. In the meantime, the bathroom beckoned?

***

Thomas was sitting up on his bed, eyes closed, and deep in thought. He didn?t know if he would cry or be happy, or if he should just let it go. No matter how much he tried searching his mind, he couldn?t find chocolate. The class he had been to was lame and the teacher sucked - he definitely wasn?t going to go there again. He was fraught with contemplation.

Chocolate was his only real companion. Had he been left alone? On the other hand, Chocolate always made fun of him. If he wanted to move forward in his relationships, could he do so with his mocking conscious always attacking him? The last thing Chocolate said echoed in his mind? was this all the doing of that damn old man? For a minute, Thomas was angry at the old man, but then maybe this was the old guy?s way of giving him a chance. After all, he had already talked to several people since he had been there. Maybe he should find them?

***

When Cho had made it to the cafeteria, the girls were already gone. Damn, I guess I love the water a little too much? She grabbed a bite to eat and headed back to her room to finish checking it out. Her mind kept returning to that awkward smile Shay had given her before? but it probably meant nothing anyway. She needed a shower to get the chlorine out of her hair.

***

After they ate lunch together, Shay and Dusty sought out what there was to do in this crazy place. Shay seemed to be bored of half the things she saw, though they hadn?t covered nearly as much ground as they thought. Outwardly the appearance of Esper Hall completely belayed the scope of how massive it really was. Shay had thought of inviting the girl back to her room, but she held back on that thinking of all the dirty posters she had hung up. She wouldn?t want to freak out her potential girlfriend, so she was more happy when Dusty invited her to come back to her own room instead. Thanks to Joe for those wild maps, otherwise there?s no way they?d have been able to find their way?

Chloe was positively giddy. She?d already called her mom simply because she couldn?t resist doing so any longer, and she?d only just settled down long enough to open one of the books she?d been given and start to read it. With the hand that wasn?t holding the book open she gently pet her gecko.

?I think mom might have been right about this place!?

Chapter Two: ?And The Druids Turn to Stone

Joe closed his cell phone and sighed as deeply as he even knew how. He?d gotten a call from the bus driver at Esper Hall - sure enough two more new arrivals were on their way over. Seriously, what the hell guys? I mean, did one of you ******** put out a commercial? This isn?t funny! I?ve got a lot of **** to do as it is, please don?t make my life any harder! Ugh. So anyway, luckily the call has said that these two were older than any of the new arrivals from the previous day. Tucking his cell-phone into his shirt pocket, Joe readied himself for giving another tour of the building, standing out in the front path of the building. It was a warm evening that would probably end in a beautiful night. Even Joe wasn?t planning on ending this night alone. In a way, he felt sorry for the newcomers who wouldn?t have anyone to hang out with on a nice night like tonight - not that they deserved it as much as he did.

?And you really don?t think there?s anything to all this?? That voice was a far greater pain in the *** than any of these new arrivals. Joe turned to the old bastard Liam wearing a look of pure disdain. The old man?s iron-pressed suit might as well have been read and there ought to have been horns poking from his skull.

?It?s not to say I don?t find it odd, but coincidences do happen. Unless you?re trying to tell me you had a hand in this mess, in which case I?m worried of what insidious scheming you?ve lent yourself to.?

?He he he? ah, my boy, I didn?t have anything to do with this, but I?d be damned if I won?t use this as an opportunity-? Joe immediately cut in.

?Now listen, you old son of a *****. You?re not getting to these kids - I won?t let you. I?ll have you know that your funding doesn?t give you power - what you will do for us in charity is all good and fine, but you have no power over anyone in Esper hall, as you are well aware. You aren?t a mage, and you aren?t our leader. There hasn?t been an exodus of a member of this community in a hundred years, but don?t think we?re afraid if you overstep your boundaries.? The old man gave a look of annoyance to these words, but curved it into a smirk.

?I think you completely and utterly misunderstand my intentions, boy. I am no draconian ruler nor do any of my aspirations even come near such a thing. You look so much to my past ideals and fail to even think of new things that may have come to my knowledge.? there was a brief pause as the old man invited his audience to speak.

?Enlighten me then, if you would be so kind,? Joe responded with a hint of sarcasm.

??The druids gather round and the chants fill the air; their echoes resound and the living world stops turning. The magic words are spoken as we leave the plain in silence. Now the circle stands alone, and the druids turn to stone.?

?Stonehenge I?m guessing? Never heard that passage.?

?It?s a song lyric, I doubt you would have.?

?Okay, old man. So what the hell are you talking about?? The old man let out a know-it-all sigh.

?The song itself was written by a very wise and knowing esper who is believed to a be a mage himself. He?s an old friend of mine and he?s given me a tip to something big happening in the near future. And when I mean big, I mean the scale of which will effect the world or more.?

?I see. And you really believe that 11 new members of esper hall are significant to this? I think it?s more than obviously a coincidence.?

??believe whatever makes you happy. You obviously won?t know what I?m thinking until I act.?

?That may not be acceptable, if you?re going to try and effect the community.? The old man gave a sharp, angered look.

?I don?t give a damn.? He teleported off. Behind him, Joe heard the van approaching. The old fart would have to wait.

When the van came to a stop, Treana stepped out and tok a look around. Hmm. Smaller place than I expected. Seems inconsistant with the information we picked up. The buildings must be larger on the inside than they are on the outside.

The woman getting off behind Treana had almost been problematic during the journey to Esper Hall. Treana hadn't noticed it at first. She was homosexual, so she didn't think it was odd that she found a woman attractive. But Treana'd detected unusual mental activity from the girl.Treana's atraction was being caused by an ability the girl had. She was attempting to supress it, but wasn't able to fully do so. So Treana switched control with her other self, who knew what was happening and thus was able to guard against it.

A man was standing nearby; he'd obviously been waiting for the pair of new arrivals. "Hi, and welcome to Esper Hall. My name's Joe."

"Treana Selmokar," Treana said. The other girl introduced herself, but Treana wasn't paying attention. Both selves were focused on Joe. Treana'd wanted to get into his mind to get more information on Esper Hall, but Joe had a very strong mental shield. Not even Treana's coordinated second attack was enough to get through. It did take Joe off guard, but it wasn't enough to get through the shield.

"Okay, you can stop trying to get into my mind," Joe said. "You won't be able to."

"Noy yet, anyways. I must say, you do have an impressive shield. It'd be easier on you to lower it at least partially, though, and better for us, too. We don't really want to take the tour. We'd prefer to get that information as quickly as possible, and the best way to do so happens to be through telepathy.

"You both want this?"

"Oh, you mean her?" Treana said, indicating the girl. "I wasn't talking about her. I meant myself and myeslf."

"Uh, whatever. I'm not letting you into my mind, but if you think you can handle it, I can send the info telepathically. IBut I warn you, receiving a large clump like that is harder than it sounds."

"We can handle it."

"If you're sure, then I'll do it. You'll need to lower your mental shield."

"Sure, but I recommend you don't try to read our mind. You would likely find it impossible to make sense of."

Joe didn't know what Treana meant, but he didn't seem to care. He clearly just wanted to get the introductions over with. That's how Treana knew he'd be willing to do the introduction telepathically; it was much faster to do it that way. So Joe sent the information directly to Treana's mind.

Joe was right; receiving the information was harder than Treana'd expected. Or rather, making sense of it was. Actually receiving the information was as simple as having her shield down, but having that much information enter her mind at once was extremely disorienting. While she sorted it all out, her other self took over. "Well, that was indeed harder than we thought," she said.

"You've recovered already? Not many newcomers are so quick to bounce back from something like that."

"No, she hasn't recovered yet, but why waste time while she recovers when I can handle things just as well?" Again, Joe clearly had no idea what Treana was talking about, but he didn't seem to care that much. He just wanted to be done with the newcomers.

"Yeah," Joe said, handing a paper to Treana. "Here's your map."

"Thank you," Treana said. "Now, since we have no further questions, we'll leave you with the other newcomer."

Treana walked off, looking at her map. Her room was marked on it, and she stopped by it first to deposit her belongings. She then made her way down to the cafeteria for some dinner. And in addition to eating, she'd be paying attention to the people around her. After all, what beter way to learn about a place was there than listining to the words and thoughs of those living there?

After his victory over the element of earth Dante went back to his room to relax and read up on the other elements. He decided when he got back to the room that he should get cleaned up, he went to the bathroom and started the water and decided to try to control the water while he was waiting for the tub to fill. After twenty minutes of no success he decided to get in, after cleaning for awhile he decided to give it one last try before he went to study more, he focused on the water for what seemed like forever, finally as he was about to give up he saw a swirl begin to form in the water and watched as it got bigger and smaller as he willed. Proud of himself Dante went into the room and sat down at the desk in the corner and got out his elements book and started studying, he was determined to master them as fast as he could.

Thomas thought a bit more, hoping that chocolate just might say something stupid. He was hoping...

Soon after he heard a strange voice resonating form his mind. The sound was familiar. After a few more seconds Thomas could hear Chocolate calling his name. "Thomas...." Chocolate said over and over, almost like he was in a trance. "Thomas!" He yelled. his voice didn't have a sarcastic tone anymore, he almost sounded evil.

"You're hopeless aren't you? You will never see the light... EVER! why you ask? because... you killed her!" Chocolate laughed at Thomas. He was becoming dark. He was turning into Dark Chocolate. No pun intended.

"Killed... who?" Thomas asked. chocolate laughed once more.

"You know... her!" Chocolate replied. Thomas entered himself into his thought. he was able to control his powers now. "I don't know who the hell your talking about!" Thomas yelled. Chocolate shook his head. "You mean you don't know? Your mother. You murdered her... YOU KILLED HER!!!!" Chocolate chuckled, his eyes were soulless.

"No... I didn't! I loved her even though I never met her! I know that deep down she loved me! I'm not going to take this anymore!" With a last ounce of power Thomas used his thoughts to destroy Chocolate, the darkness flew out of him. Chocolate turned around at Thomas. The light returning to the cat.

"Goodbye... Tommy boy."

The darkness that shrouded Thomas' heart had manifested itself within chocolate. those evil words made Thomas snap. Could the darkness have disappeared? Could Thomas finally smile a wide smile. It seemed that way. Every speck of hate for the world disappeared. Thomas looked for it, but luckily, he couldn't find it.
Just then Miri's words came to mind.

?But after I discovered my powers, I used them to heal my broken heart. It took a while though, but I?m sure you can overcome it. You seem strong to me.?

Thomas thought about that last sentence. "You seem strong to me." Maybe Thomas was strong. He had to find Miri, he had to tell her that he is okay now. The darkness around his soul was dead. Thomas looked out the window. He finally felt...warm.

Tasha did her best to not sigh. She was going where she wanted to wasn't she? But still, it was frustrating. Trying to keep whatever it was that attracted others under control was a royal pain in the butt and it didn't help that she was exhausted. But still with only one other person on the van she had expected problems to arise so it was with great relief that they arrived without any fuss. Are all of the people at Esper Hall like this? Tasha wondered as she watched and listened to Treana and Joe. She certainly hoped so. Being around others who were not affected or rather could protect themselves until they taught her how to control it would certainly make things a lot easier for her.

But just why was Treana referring to herself as if she were two people? Just what am I getting myself into? She wondered as Treana finished up and left. Tasha turned her attention back to Joe, who to her, looked rather resigned as if something was bothering him. Is he annoyed that I came here? Normally Tasha had no trouble picking up on others thoughts, but both Treana and Joe's mind had been completely closed. Tasha hadn't tried to get into their minds, she was just use to hearing other people think out loud. Since unlike her they seemed to lack the ability to block their thoughts. Most people couldn't. Though often she did keep her own ability to shield others out up. If only because it got old hearing what people thought. Tasha hated how people were so dishonest with themselves. It was one thing to keep it to yourself, but those who thought one thing and then deliberately lied. That she absolutely detested.

With another sigh she dragged her attention back to Joe, "Forgive me for being blunt, but you seem less than thrilled. If my coming here is a problem then please say so."

Joe seemed a bit startled at that but just shook his head. "No you're fine. It has nothing to do with you." He turned and motioned with his right hand. "Just follow me and I'll show you around."

Tasha picked her things back up and did as he told her. Even if she couldn't and wouldn't try to read his mind. She could tell that he was telling the truth about whatever was bothering him having nothing to do with her. That was another thing Tasha wanted to learn about since it seemed to be tied into whatever was making others be infatuated with her. At times she could sense if people were telling her the truth or not.

Still as Joe showed her the cafeteria, library and a number of other places, Tasha began to wonder if her assumption that the others could block her out was true or not. Most of them seemed to simply ignore her but some of the others they encountered gave her the oddest look. As Joe finally took her to her room she just sighed yet again. If only I could turn the damn thing off.

Joe stopped in front the door leading to what he said was her room. "Actually if you wish, we can teach you how to turn it off."

Startled Tasha dropped her things. She hadn't realized that he was reading her mind! And in an instant she found herself highly annoyed. "Why did you just read my mind?"

Surprised Joe just explained, "I didn't. You broadcast that thought yourself. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but your control over your shield is sporadic. The harder you focus on controlling that charm ability of yours the more often something slips out."

Charm? Is that what it's called? "I see. I wasn't aware of that."

"No worries," Joe handed her a map. "Just get settled in and then start checking around for classes. One of them will be able to help you get that under control and most of the people here will be able to shield against it. However, there are people here who are not trained well enough to do so. But since you've got a good start on controlling it yourself you should do fine until you learn more."

"Is there no way to turn it off for now?" Tasha asked. "I mean wouldn't that make it easier?"

"No, you need to have it active in order to control it. Theorizing about an ability won't get you anywhere. Actual practice will. Now if you'll excuse me I have other things to attend to." And with that Joe vanished.

"Well so much for that idea." Tasha grumbled as she took her things into her room and started putting them away. Taking the time to remake the bed with the Victorian pink patterned sheets and blankets she had brought along with the matching curtains.

Then as she always did she placed paper thin silk hangings on the wall also decorated with Victorian styled themes, finishing by putting her clothes away carefully to avoid wrinkles and then all of her cosmetics and such into the bathroom. With her rose scented soaps and shampoos and such. And then finally, she decorated the top of every surface with little teddy bears of all kinds before putting her suitcases underneath the bed and out of sight. It's a good thing I only brought the basics. This room is painfully small!

Then after taking a moment to change out of the dusty clothing from the trip into a pair of soft silk like jeans and a type of white shirt with slightly ruffled sleeves and edges, she picked up the map Joe had given her, took a moment to lock down her ability as much as possible and then headed for the cafeteria. Even if she was tired. She was also hungry, and it would be a good place to actually meet some of the people here.

Dusty unlocked her door, and flicked on the light. With a slightly embarassed blush, she realized that her sheets were all rumpled and her night clothes were on the floor.

"Umm... it's a tad messy, but make yourself comfy."

Dusty pushed her clothes to the not-far-away other side of the room so she could flop down in the small beanbag she'd set up at the foot of the bed.

"So... why'd you decide tocome here?"

What a lame *** you are... Dusty couldn't think of anything to say, she was still so focused on how drop-dead gorgeous Shay was, and denying it to herself.

OOC:I am so so sorry, I am rather braindead but I wanted to confirm my non deadness. Tag, Fyxe.

After leading Shayla to her room, and making some awkward attempts to clean up, Dusty sat down in a bean bag chair. She looked up at Shayla, her eyes were so fiery and intent on Shayla's to the point where she didn't know how to respond. Dusty was the first to break the eye contact, looking quickly to the floor.

"So... why did you decided to come here?" She asked. Shayla thought this was an odd question, considering Dusty had been the one to offer.

"Well... I never refuse an invitation..." She replied. Dusty looked disappointed by this answer. "But," Shayla said quickly, "I was happy you asked me to come." She sat on the edge of Dusty's bed, hoping that answer was a good enough recovery. Neither of them spoke after this, giving the word 'tension' a whole new meaning.

Shayla kept her eyes on Dusty, who was purposely making a fuss over a hole in the bean bag. Occassionally she would shoot an embarassed glance at Shayla.

"Do I bother you that much? I can leave, if you want me to," Shayla finally said with a sigh, standing up. This seemed to jolt some life into the smaller girl.

"Oh! No! I'm sorry, please, don't leave yet," Dusty exclaimed, her hand rose to touch Shayla's hand, but quickly fluttered back to her lap.
Shayla sat back on the bed. She bit her lip, wondering if this would be an appropriate time to ask. There was something there... but you could never be sure if girls were being over-friendly, or if they meant it. It was a difficult decision, but she knew she had to clear it up, before any actual moves were made...

"Dusty..." Shayla said in almost a whisper, leaning down by Dusty's ear. "Please do not be offended, or take this in the wrong way... that is the last thing I want... but... are you gay?" Dusty immediately stiffened and Shayla knew she had just made a mistake. Dusty stood up quickly.

"I am not... not... g-ga... you know! I don't know how you could even suggest it! Please, you should leave now," Her voice was unusually high, and she walked over to her door.

"Dusty..." Shayla said helplessly.

"Shay... out, please..."

"Fine. But I just want you to know that denying it won't get you anywhere. It's not like, perverted or whatever. And if you truly are straight, sorry for the confusion. I've had too many hetero girls lead me on, and I was hoping you weren't one of them. See you around," Shayla replied, anger and annoyance in her voice. She didn't mean to be harsh or anything, it just came out that way. She left Dusty's room, mainly angery at herself. But she had never fixed anything by letting her temper get out of control.
So, back to base one.
Might as well get acquainted with other people... She thought, heading back to the cafeteria.

It seemed like this place was never truly empty. How many people lived here, actually? After standing close to a wall for nearly fifteen minutes, scanning the crowd, Shayla realized how stupid she was being. She didn't come to this place just for girl hunting. So why was she here? She couldn't remember. Shaking the thought from her mind, she began walking out of the cafeteria, but before she completely reached the exit, a new feeling hit her. A total feeling of longing.
She spun around, to see what had just happened, and she was quickly drawn to the girl that had just passed her. Curious, Shayla followed suit, getting in the line for food right beside the girl. She seemed to be about the same age as Shayla, and was very gorgeous. But that wasn't the reason why she wanted to be by this... woman... so much. It was something else.
She had been struggling to get the courage to ask her name, but it seemed this effort wasn't needed. The woman turned to Shayla and spoke. "I'm Tasha. And you're... Shayla? Nice to meet you." She gave Shayla a smile and continued to gather her food.
Shayla felt very light-headed, concerning what had just happened. Great, a mind reader.

Dusty closed the door behind Shay, body tense. The lock clicked closed and she slid down it to sit on the floor, head between her knees. Tears streamed silently down her face. What the hell is wrong with me?

Her fear and embarrassment suddenly turned to rage and with a shriek Dusty stood and punched the wall. What was wrong with her? She wasn't gay, why should she be offended? It was a simple little question and if Shay wanted to make sure she had that right. So why did she feel like she'd just made the biggest mistake of her life?

These thoughts whirled through her mind and she hardly noticed the hole in the wall that her brother-trained punch had left, or the pain spreading from her knuckles to her fingertips. Her emotions whirled so quickly in her head, her heart was fluttering and she felt like throwing up. Breifly through her mind:

Is this what love feels like?

The thought was repelled faster than it crossed her mind. Her anger was getting the better of her. She couldn't let her emotions out. She would lose it.

"I am not gay."

Her emotions went blank, her demenor cold. The tears at the corners of her eyes were wiped away, and suddenly everything was better. Nothing hurt anymore. It was better that way; then she wouldn't make a mistake and kill someone. She felt so blank, but she'd get used to it. She always did.

Dusty grabbed a book and left her room. Locking the door behind her she wandered the halls until she came back to the same steps she first run into Shay on. Against the rain, out of the way, Dusty sat on one step and opened the book. The words on the page went through her brain and she lost herself in the lives of the characters.

Here... no more Shay. No more hurt. No more...fire.

OOC:Whoa. o_o My brain kicked in. BTW, that's how she deals with emotions. She just goes blank.

Vanyel had been thrilled to realize that transporting yourself wasn't as difficult as she had thought it would be. It took a while for the teacher to get the concept across to her, but the mistaken notion that size and weight limited you, or rather in as strict a manner as she was thinking had surprised her. And once she got it, she found that she could do as the teacher said. Though she still couldn't go very far, but Vanyel did not care. Miss Rose had said that distance was merely a matter of practice and Vanyel believed her.

Once the lesson was over and Vanyel was back in her room she had started on the books the librarian Sara had given her since she wanted to be ready for the basic classes in the morning. There was no way she was going stay as ignorant as she was. If there was one thing Vanyel hated, it was feeling stupid. At least I do know how to read and write. Though her writing was painfully hard to do and looked terrible. Vanyel had finally given up and practiced the teleporting instead. That is until she started feeling a little light headed.

Vanyel stumbled a bit and sat down on the edge of her bed, looking up at the clock on the wall. It was almost 7 pm. No wonder I feel dizzy. I forgot to get something to eat. She waited for a moment to let the dizzy feeling pass and then she got up, her map neatly folded and in her pocket as she opened the door and headed for the cafeteria. Surprisingly there were a lot of people going about their business, though many of them looked as if they were off to things besides grabbing a bite to eat.

For the most part other than to avoid bumping into any of them Vanyel just steered clear of people until finally she was at the cafeteria. But right as she got to the door she froze. Not because she did see someone she recognized, Shayla if she remembered the names correctly, but because the oddest feeling, one that made no sense, caught her. An intense desire to be near a woman with pale blonde hair that she had never met. Without even thinking about it she attempted to slam her barrier to her mind even tighter, and though it did seem to help it wasn't quite enough.

What the hell? Vanyel didn't have a clue what had just happened. Nor just exactly what she was feeling either, since why in the world would she want to be near someone she had never met! Hadn't someone mentioned that other Espers would play pranks on the new people? Just the thought that someone was trying to toy with her made her angry. And yet at the same time not being able to figure out just what the hell was happening annoyed her as well. Since she didn't know if it was intentional or not. Hell!

Vanyel was quite hungry though so she edged over to the where the food was and got a sandwich. Something that she could take back to her room with her. She didn't even bother to see what it was. Vanyel took it and after politely thanking the person behind the counter she took off at a dead run for her room. Sighing with relief when the odd feeling left. Just as she did not like someone being able to enter her mind without permission, the idea that someone could make her want to be near them bothered her as well.

A few minutes later she was in her room, the door closed and locked behind her. Vanyel set the sandwich down and threw herself on the bed, sitting with her back against the wall, facing the door. I don't even know that woman, why the hell did I want to be near her? She fought to bring her emotions under control, but this place, though exciting, was also testing her ability to stay calm. That was the second time that she'd nearly lost control of her ability to start fires.

I have to find a class for that as well. Vanyel choked at the thought. I don't want to hurt anyone again. Ever. She took several deep breaths and finally crawled off the bed, more composed. It was a pity that the sandwich turned out to be ham. Vanyel didn't like ham. But she wasn't going back to the cafeteria. With a sigh she simply ate the sandwich and then she took a long hot bath to help herself to relax. Then since she did not want to do anything else she changed into some pajamas and grabbed some of the books for tomorrow and started studying them again.
