Desbreko
The only thing I would personally suggest would be raising the compression default for uploaded avatars. Low color ones, in particular, get compressed to Hell.
I'm not sure what you mean. James
I think the Quick Edit feature makes things faster and more convenient in general - whether or not you are on dial-up (but particularly if you are). Even if a page is cached, I know that redirecting and reloading the page can still take time - especially on a slower connection (and for that matter, a slower computer). So although I doubt that Quick Edit will be the equivalent to discovering God (something I don't think I really implied), it will certainly be of benefit to everyone. Avatar sizes are likely to increase in the future regardless of this - I believe there's already been a thread on that subject. All of these other enhancements are peripheral to that. In other words, every little bit helps when it comes to making things faster and more convenient.
Semjaza
I don't really think anything I said implied that I inferred anything that was remotely the equivalent of "discovering god", but OK lol. I have no idea... all I know is that my image is perfect before I upload it, yet full of artifacts once it is up. I mean, just look at it lol. Solid blocks of color are also handled differently than more complex imagery by JPG compression... I don't know how much of this is playing into that as I don't know what the settings are. Allamorph
So, has anybody else noticed the nifty new PM deal, where you type out a part of a name and the site provides you with possibles to choose from? It's durn cool.
Desbreko
Okay, I changed the Image Processing Library setting. That deals with avatars and attachment thumbnails and it's the only setting I could find related to this, so hopefully it should do something. Try re-uploading your avatar and see if it's any better now.

What I meant was that it's clearly not going to be a major improvement in terms of the site's performance (I don't think I implied otherwise, but I obviously came across that way) but every little bit helps. The elimination of redirects probably makes a reasonable difference where fractions of a second count.
Well, perhaps moderator settings are different from those for normal users? Although it seems odd that vB would have one setting for Moderators and another for regular Members - especially when the file size limits are the same for both groups. I assume our settings have always been the same for this so it's a bit weird that it would come up now - although perhaps this has something to do with settings being different on the latest install in an area that we just haven't looked at. Either way I suppose it can be added to the To-Do list. :catgirl: Edit: Thanks Des! Hopefully this is resolved.
Semjaza
Yes, it is. Thank you. I knew it was some minor thing in there somewhere. Much better :).
Rachmaninoff
What can I say, it's been almost a month or has been a month and I'm still loving the upgrade/change. Every time I post or respond to stuff I'm again reminded of just how nice it is. So though it's long over due... *showers Des with praise*

I'm talking about posting and all the options when you are writing one up, like the way you select a font, it shows you what each one will look like instead of just a name. Or the size of the font which has a nifty drop down menu that actually shows you the size. The colors have a little box of colors displayed like a pallete instead of a drop down menu, even the smilies are in a row of two instead of three. And the way you link text is slightly different. But it's most noticeable when I'm highlighting and tagging text when I'm writing up a rp post. Before, selecting something and highlighting it to add bold tags resulted in it putting you back and the very beginning of your post once you added the tags, so you had to scroll all the time to get back to where you were. Now it just stays put and highlighted so you can apply more than one thing at a time to the same section of text. It's just a whole lot easier and less of a pain. lol That and the silly automatic pop up asking if you want a receipt when you pm someone is gone. I certainly don't miss that at all. It was annoying. EDIT: Oh and as I'm doing right now, even the option to edit doesn't load the entire post, it pulls up a quicker menu that's easier to use for simple changes. :)

I mean granted, a lot of the changes are subtle and insignificant, but there are also entirely new options that make life easier. Gavin
This is definitely going to sound lame, but my favourite addition with the new vB update is that thread pages whether accessed from the forum or within the thread itself now use the same hyperlink address instead of two separate ones. Really handy for browsing long RPGs like Maverick Hunters. Oh, and Quick Edit, that function is a God send. *Gives big thumbs up*

I hadn't realized just how annoying it was for it to go back to the beginning of the post when you were tagging stuff, until it quit doing it. I certainly don't miss that automatic pop up either. And you're quite right about the edit function. It makes fixing a tiny error so much easier and quicker. I know I certainly like it. And the new graphics look great too. :catgirl:
Aaryanna
I love it all, the new graphics, all the new features for when you post, especially how tagging stuff does not put you back at the beginning of the post. Just thinking of doing the post for The Otaku Times without that change is enough to make me cry. >_< The timing for the change was perfect since that made doing that first post a hundred times easier. And it's going to make doing the next one easier as well. ^_^ Anyway, I agree with Crystia and Des, the new moderation side of it is fantastic too. :catgirl: I love how that works, it makes things so much easier. I can't imagine going back, it's just too cool.
