I'm surprised there's no thread for this on OB! Anyway, this show is actually almost completely out on DVD in the US so there's no excuse whatsoever for you not watching it! It's directed by the greatest man to walk this earth, Akiyuki Shinbo (Soultaker, Hidamari Sketch, Moon Phase, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei) and is a comedy about an all-girl class governed by a teacher who's an eleven year-old genius.

It would not be hard at all to draw a comparison to Azumanga Daioh. While PaniPoni has a larger cast of characters including even students of other classes, there are a lot of personalities that are much like those in AzuDai, and a similar atmosphere.

So what makes this show better than AzuDai? The directing. This show is zany on a whole new level and visually enticing. There's always something or a good deal of somethings happening onscreen to keep you on your toes along with the witty humor and fun situations. This show does a great job of sucking you into it and making you have fun along with it.

And... um... I've only seen two epsiodes so far ^^;;. Oddly enough, I went out and bought the artbox with the DVD, but for some reason I actually bought volume two O_o. So I ended up with episodes 6-10, but the show is so random that I was able to pick right up into it.

Unlike Azudai, this show doesn't use a 4-koma format where every couple minutes it's about something different. Each episode has a standalone plot that almost acts as a mcGuffin for the jokes to play out on. Anyway, it's awesome and you need to see it >_>

As much as I like the show visually (when Shinbo doesn't lapse into just mailing it in, that is), the characters don't do it for me. Well, except for the gloriously sexy and megane'd Rei, but she's one out of how many? Exactly.

The one running joke from PPD that kills me is
the Kami-sama cat.
Maybe because makes the least sense out of anything in there.

I don't find AzuDai to be wildly thrilling or amusing in comparison, but it does have way more warmth & heart.

There's a space between Pani and Poni, fyi. *edits title* :animesmil

I love this series and was actually thinking about starting a thread for it. But, you know, I'm lazy like that and didn't.

I watched this a while ago and it was one of the weirdest comedy animes I've ever seen. The thing that really sets it apart from Azumanga Daioh in my mind, though, is that Pani Poni Dash! doesn't even try to be at all realistic. Totally weird and random crap happens all the time and tends to just be taken in stride by the characters. Sometimes even being dismissed as not actually having happened because, of course, stuff like that is impossible. It was crazy awesome (literally!) and I loved every episode.

And yes, the
Kami-sama cat and its body temperature
was hilarious. That made me laugh pretty much every single time. But I think I liked the Ichijo Matsuri more.

Becky is adorable, by the way, and I've been meaning to make a banner with her for a while now.

Pani Poni is really amusing. It's not something that I would obsess over, but it's still fun to watch when I'm bored. I like Himeko, Ichijo, Serizawa(?), and that one reporter girl. I guess that one teacher who wishes she was a cloud and drinks all of the time too. Most of all though, I like that "censored" thing that this thread keeps mentioning.

One of the things I really didn't care for was the whole, irrelevant Agguy-lookalike robot discussion that takes place in almost, if not every, episode. I couldn't really find much humor in it, but that's just me.
