Catgirl08
I'm a member of theotaku, and I have 31 fanart pics and so far 516 votes, but I have a site here too and I don't recieve alot of comments on my post. Then there are others that don't even do fan art but they have like 15 to 40 comments every time they post something random. I don't think it's fair because they want people to comment on their post but, yet they don't comment on mine. is there something I need to do? Also, I have another question. How do you become popular on theotaku? If you want to see I what I mean, visit my site, My user name is Catgirl08.
Flagg
I have never been popular in rl or the e-world nor have I cared or strived to be. I'm just a lonely anime otaku and to be honest I think it better then trying to be popular. Maybe you just should not care as much like me. KingEarthEater
First of all, I would like to say that being important isn't really what matters. If by, "popular" you mean that your friends know about you, then I can understand. But, if you want to make friend, then you should just socialize around. Ask some of your friends to get an account. Or just message people and make friends. To me, thats what its really about. I hate (Well, not really hate, but a special kind of dislike) the people who are on theOtaku and just are there because they think they're cool because of it. Basically, theOtaku was made so that your friends (face to face or internet) could know more about you and thats another way to socialize. Theres nothing wrong about that, but you shouldn't very much care about being special/popular, because if you try, you won't be. There are some people who just have it in them to be known/liked by people. Its not so much that they've tried to do it, its just the way they are. Its almost like school, are you popular in school? If you are, then does it really matter to you? And if you aren't, then do you dislike the people who are well known? Its the same matter. Just ignore it, its nothing that really matters anyway. As long as you have some friends, then they'll help you when you need help. Don't worry about people not liking you. Thats mostly their problem. Don't you think that sounds a bit arrogant? That artists are somehow better than other members and therefore deserve the comments? Where others do not? If these people are getting comments I would imagine it's due to them being friends with others around the site. Even if they don't comment on others sites a lot. After all there are more ways to communicate than comments, like pm's, using AIM, etc. I have a number of friends over there and we almost never comment each other's page since we talk via pm's and other means instead, so there's a lot more to getting popular than being able to draw. ;) And to be clear, I am not popular over there and could care less, I joined since I have friends who are members, I couldn't draw to save my live. lol Another thing, you don't get popular by wanting it, you get popular by being nice and making friends. Yes some people will be popular since they do have great art that they post, but in the end, I would think wanting some good friends would be more fun. Xerxes
Both Bloody Rose and Rachmaninoff make a good point. Being nice and making friends is a good thing. I mean we all like the same thing don't we? We love the OtakuBoards and TheOtaku.
I'm a member of theotaku, and I have 31 fanart pics and so far 516 votes, but I have a site here too and I don't recieve alot of comments on my post. Sometimes it's better if you post something about anything but not spam. It's different in the other forums like the Anime Lounge and the Adventure Inn/Square. The Anime Lounge talkes about anime and the Adventure Inn/Square is all about RPGs. Here in this forum, we debate, give advice, post our thoughts or answer questions that people put into their original posts. We're all human after all but I do say so myself, that you are getting comments on this thread that you have started.:animesmil

I didn't mean that artist should get more comments than people that don't draw. That does sound arragant. The real question is that, how do I get people to comment on my post on my site. The thing about me is that I like to read what others have to say and you learn more about people that way. But I'm sorry ifI confused you by my post and question. Sometimes, when I try to ask people questions, it comes out the wrong way. Allamorph
Simple answer for ya: you start talkin' to other people, they'll most likely start talkin' back ? assuming we're steering clear of the cutesy intornetz slang thingummy that pretty much just gets on people's nerves. :p (E.g.: comments like "OMG ur so AWESOME and ur site totily RAWKS!!!11", if you'll pardon my facetiousness, are basically instantly translated as "Ignore me, please-and-thank- you.") 'Course, if you follow that logic, you may very well end up as that person that everybody just sighs and says "not him again" when he shows his face ... er, screenname. (And no, DB, I'm actually talking about myself here.)

There are a lot of nice and friendly people over at myOtaku. I wouldn't worry so much over comments but rather on making friends, and before long you'll end up with people who do come and visit and comment on your page. I wouldn't worry too much over being popular since that's overrated. Besides, you're always welcome to keep coming here and being a part of the discussions at OB. People here are nice and friendly too. ;)

But this means work on your part - if you comment regularly on other people's blogs, they are more likely to comment on yours. I know quite a few people read mine (amazingly, lol) but only a few comment. However, I'm sure more would comment if I sat down and commented a lot on theirs. It's a bit of give and take, you know? I expect lower amounts of comments because I don't really comment on other blogs much. I do, however, respond to people's comments on my page. I think that helps a bit too because it gets you into a bit of a discussion. Edit: Oh and to what Rachmaninoff said...I notice a lot of new members in this thread alone. That's really great to see. OtakuBoards is a great place to build up friends and contacts. A lot of people on OB have made many friends here - so this is one way to also attract people to your work and stuff. It's also just good to start making friends in the network in general I think.

Tetra of sound
I'm not very popular, and never will be unless my stupid side takes complete control. My stupid side, though, gets me friends because it makes them laugh. I can be friends with anyone because I talk like this and sometimes use net terms. I still have 20 friends, though some never talk, because I'm a person who basicly, makes everyone around me ( except for a few. )happy. I'm Idiot/smart person/entertainer/talkative. I should stop now. If you need me, I'm: OtakuBoards ~ Tetra of Sound MyOtaku ~ copperhound Thanks for taking the time to read!( IF you did. If not: T_T )
