James
I think we've had a couple of threads like this in the past, but I thought it would be fun to make a new official pet thread - all pets are welcome! I've only really ever had one pet in the past - a cockateil named Stimpy. My siblings have also had birds, but Stimpy was by far the smartest of them all. I have no idea what posessed me to give him that name...but somehow it fit. In any case, he was hand-tamed and seemed to think I was mother. He was the oddest bird I've ever come across - he was more of a dog than a bird. He'd play tug-of-war with pieces of string or he'd pick a fight with the buttons on my shirt. I also briefly owned a galah (native Australian bird - almost as big as a cockatoo), but unfortunately he flew away (my dad released him from his cage, thinking his wings were clipped - they weren't!) Most recently I finally made the move to a dog. She's a Siberian Husky named Amira. When we got her she was sick but things seem to have mostly cleared up now. I still have to get a new picture of her (this one was taken at the pet store). Once she's had her third vaccination we'll be off to puppy pre-school, which should be a lot of fun. One thing I've definitely noticed with this breed is their energy. She's only about fourteen weeks old and she's already got so much of it! She can literally run for ages (and pull an adult along) without any issues. I wonder what she'll be like when she's ten times bigger! :animeswea So, please feel free to share photos and stories about your pets in this thread. I'm curious to see what people's pet experiences are - how many have you had? And has anyone ever had a really unusual pet? I've known a couple of people who had Mexican Walking Fish, which were incredibly odd. lol
Anakoni Stark
I've had quite a few pets, where to start.... the first pet that comes to mind is the family dog, Loki: Click Here to see Loki she's an okinowan-mix [Japanese] and she's quite old, almost as old as my little brother, 12 years old, she's quite tame, and very very protective of the family, she usually sleeps or louses around the house, but when she's awake she's very playful and energetic, it turns out that she likes classical music, and knows when fourth of July and New Years' Eve comes around cos she gets all scared and stays in my father's room. She's also very heavy almost forty pounds. I also have my sister's dogs [Pinky and The Brain] and my little dog who reminds my parents of a rat [Luxor] Pinky is actually my brother-in-law's dog, she was a stray, but they took her in and nursed her back to health, there's also another reason that they named her pinky [besides the fact that she looked like the mouse from the cartoon], it turns out she turns pink when you give her a shower. The other dog, Brain, I think her name orignates from the cartoon also, but the downside to this one is, she's very shy, due to getting beer during her puppy years, my brother-in-law's idea. Click Here to see pinky and brain Luxor, my dog, I dont know what kind of breed he is, and is usually mistaken by the vets to be a italian greyhound, among other misconsceptions. I love this dog as much as Loki, cos he's always full of energy, and is always playful, but what my parents dont like about him, is that he pees all over the place.
Vicky
James, your dog looks like it's going to dive out of the computer and kill me. Seriously. But, here's an old picture of myself and my dog. I miss my long hair... Clickity here. The dog is called Chance and I have three cats, Daisy, Lucky and Tiny. Lucky is my cat, and all mine. She's a absolute riot; the funniest creature to grace the planet. I'll have to find a picture of her... she's pretty mad, but a good friend who's up at 5am in the morning to sit with me while I watch old reruns of crap TV. I'm getting a parrot soon, though. Yep. A parrot. I'm going to teach it to swear and attack old women for a laugh.
eleanor
I have a dog named Simba, and it's the cutest dog I've ever seen. :) She's a jindo-gae, which is the mascot dog of Korea. She's a runt, though, because she's rather small and she's not as strong as normal Jindos. And being a Jindo, she's very affectionate with my family, but dangerous to strangers. =_= But they're great dogs. Very hard to train, but once you do they're incredibly loyal. I've had another Jindo before named Cookie, but we gave her away to a family living on a farm when we moved, and before Simba I had a Jack Russell Terrier named Twix that ran away and never came back. We also had three guinea pigs (Reeses, Snickers, and Rose) that eventually died, but they were mostly my sister's pets. I liked dogs as pets the most, since they're easy to play with and just lovable. I also like cats, but I'm incredibly allergic to them. If I ever end up living up in the countryside when I get old or something, I'd very much like to have a black-and-white Border Collie, or another Jindo. Annie
James, your Husky is gorgeous. I've always wanted one. Yes, the breed is very energetic; hope you are athletic! I can't even begin to count how man pets my family has gone through. Currently, they have 4 lizards (three chameleons and a bearded dragon), a canary, a rose-crested cockatoo, an ....eclectus..?? some colorful bird, a parrolette (smallest parrot), and a green-winged McCaw.....oh, not to mention an adopted hampster, and a rabbit..and a rat. Whew. Yes..a zoo, basically. I have 2 pets. Unfortunately, my beloved kitty, Stella, lives at Mike's mother's house; I can't have the cat at my house with all these damned birds. Stella, showing off for the camera. She's a nutcase..but I miss her. The sad part of leaving her at my boyfriend's house is that she really doesn't have a bond with me any more :( But, she's a fat, happy cat now....who snuggles on me from time to time. So, it's all good. At least she doesn't completely ignore me. And this, is my bearded dragon. His name is...Sandy. How very original, no?? Well, he was already named before I adopted him. So, whatever. I hope Meg still visits the OB from time to time to see that I finally have one! We wanted to start a bearded dragon farm to take over the world......>_> Viva la revolution!
Desbreko
I like keeping praying mantids as pets whenever I find them. Right now I have one that I've been keeping for about a month now. It was already an adult when I found it but it's gotten a bit bigger since then. I couldn't get a decent picture of mine specifically because my camera refuses to focus on it for some reason, but it looks pretty much identical to this: I believe it's a Mantis religiosa, or European mantis. I feed it beetles, moths, or whatever other insects I happen to find. A few days after catching this one I also found what looked like a Hierodula membranacea nymph (a young Giant Asian mantis) and put the two together to see which would end up eating the other. The European mantis had the high ground and won.
GANTZ
This is a picture of my dog, Buddy. He's a mostly border collie and part... uhh... something else. We got him in a Walmart parking lot :animesmil Picture takoyuki, if your picture is stretching OB's layout, just use a link okay? Panda
Heston (Dog) and Harrison (Cat) are both rescue pets. Heston is very timid and was abused as a puppy. It's be a lot of work to get him to not be so afraid of people. He's now 9 years old. Harrison was brought into the vet clinic I worked at since the clients thought he had two broken front legs. He was just born with birth defects. Since they could not take care of a special needs kitten I adopted him. He is around 8 years old (I think?). Needless to say Heston and Harrison are best friends. Ana Ng. She is the ruler of this household. She is Siamese. She is the perfect angel when visitors are around but abuses us when they leave. She is pure evil. I really believe she just let's us live here in HER house since we are her useful domestic pets. After all, who would put the cat food on the right side of the dish the way she likes? Or clean her litter box? She is 12 years old and Siamese cats are known for their long lives. They can live into their 20's. Ah, another decade of abuse in my future... Brynner was adopted from the Humane Society. He is a very big and happy boy. Everyone loves Boo. He has a toy fish that he will retrieve if you ask him: "Where's the fish?". He will pick it out of all the toys. He also knows what the "ball" is. If you ask him: "Who's in the tub?". He will jump into the bathtub until you tell him he can get out. He is as tall as me when standing on his hind legs and weighs a bit over 90lbs. In the winter he packs on some weight and weighs about 100. Everyone loves Brynner and he loves everyone. He's a big teddy bear. I love my pets. I can't imagine my life without them. I know someday this will come to an end but at least I know that the lives they lived with me were happy ones.

Billy Shears
This is my dog Shadow: She is part black lab/chow. Amazingly loyal and enough energy to kill a large man. She is very trim and fit for being a seven year old dog who is spoiled all the time. I love this dog. She is such a wimp. Chicago has been getting hit with some pretty bad thunderstorms, and its so cute/sad to see Shadow curled up right on my mom's feet. We got her from the Humane Society when she was 3 months old. She is pretty much perfect other than she likes to jump up on guests and sniff their crotches the second they walk in :animestun. She is healthy, but will occasionally have seizures. She hasn't had one in a long time (knock on wood), but they are usually around a minute long. They don't hurt her if we try and calmly talk her out of it. She is just dazed for a few minutes, then goes on to be the same nutty dog. @ James: That dog is beautiful. He must've cost a pretty penny.

Japan
This is my dog, Guppy. She is a pure black lab and is really sweet. I bought her from a friend who's brother didn't want her anymore. He has a mental disability and he didn't like her for chewing up his stuffed animals. They bought the puppy for him. I knew the dog from youth group because she visited old folks in the nursing home. So I got her on my birthday shortly after my other dog, Shannon died. Her full name is Guppy Giggle Wigglebottom. She has her name because the family who owned her before are silly and they used to have two dogs named Fish and Chip. One of those died. It used to belong to my brother in law and sister but after my sister gave birth to my nephew, we ended up keeping the kitten because we didn't want the baby to get hurt. Doublehex
All of you guys make me jealous. I only have one pet - an effing cat! His name is Simba, and he does three things. He eats. He sleeps. And he poops. He doesn't cuddle up with you; he snarls at me if I try to pet him. And he's an old cat too. He's like in his teens. He reminds me alot of my great grandmother... The thirteen year old dog is almost schitso, he's more active then a dog half his age although he tore a tendon on his back right leg and strained a muscle on his front left. My other dog is a fat little bugger and the most annoying little mummys boy ever. My sister used to spoil him so much when she lived at home which saw him getting babied all the time andnow he is an irriatating little [expelitevly deleted]. My cat is a cute little black and white one wo is supremly bossy; when she wants pats, she'll headbutt you in the leg or jump on top of you. Wierdly enough though, she likes potato chips. James
I didn't even know that you could get a license to buy one in Victoria, Uh huh.
I never had a license for one. I bought it from a very large bird-centric pet store (I think it was called Birdland on Princes Highway) and they never said anything about a license. Having said that, it was ages ago - probably ten years or more ago, so maybe the law was different then. As for those who think my dog is scary, if you saw her in person your heart would melt - she's so affectionate! She is a bit of a sook actually. She isn't happy unless she's being cuddled (or played with). I'll have to get some more pictures of her to put in this thread. Anyway, I'm really impressed with some of the pets in this thread. Although I feel bad about the nasty kitty...nothing worse than a cat who isn't affectionate. I like cats when they are very loving, but I really can't stand cats that are nothing but nasty.
banzaiinu1
Ahhhh! All your guy's animals are so cute! :3 I have a dog, two cats, and two beta fish. My dog's name is Kozmo. He's a poodle, wire-haired fox-tarrier mix. And he is quite ugly. D: (my mom picked him out...) This is my cat Snickers. shes quite mean... And this is my brother's cat Chloe. I wanted to name her Sakura when we got her a couple years ago. But noooo. My mom said no. Even though Chloe means cherry blossom too. :/ (She has a huge fluffy tail! :D ) And my beta fish are named Dark and Krad. XD Krad is mine. Dark is my brother's. Dark is marron-ish colored and so is Krad but, he has blue in his tail. :D
Aaryanna
Ah yes... the pet thread. I've been meaning to post here, but I couldn't decide which picture to use! I have so many! Anyway, I have a Bichon Frise. We got her back in 2000 so she's seven years old. As everyone knows her name is Aaryanna and naturally I use that name as my user name here. Anyway, these pictures here are from my trip to Yellowstone National Park last year with Beth and her family. ^_^ We also have a family cat, but I'll leave the posting about him to my Mom. Hehe. Also, it's kind of cute that you got a Husky James. Before we got Aaryanna, my Mom had a miniature Husky that was 16 years old. She finally had to be put down since she got sick and everything started shutting down. I hated that since I loved her too. >_< I'll have to find a picture since she was about 30lbs and completely white, the smaller breeds don't get as big as a regular Husky does. She's also the reason we got a Bichon this time. We researched it and decided to get a breed that doesn't shed! Though the draw back is needing regular grooming. Still Bichon's are very, very affectionate and social ,and I just love coming home to her excited jumping up and down dance that she does since she's so glad to see me again. :catgirl:
