spy46
so i was talking to my GF a few days ago and just trying to make conversation i said that i would like to make a papermashay helmet for my self, cut a plastic bag and tape it over my hair then let it harden and remove. she acted like i said i was from mars or some thing, saying that it was weird, and im not sure but i think she said it was stupid.:animestun .... umm ouch?:animedepr i pride my self an artist, tho i am not great at drawing people, i can make armor and what ever else, tho not perfect, i think its of an ok standard. but i also like to make things with my hads, hence the helmet, but i never said what kind of a helmet. so here is my question for all of you, have you ever wanted to do some thing that was a part of your hobby, only to have some one you love tell you some thing that kind of hurt you in some way. EG: collecting stamps, dolls, coins what ever.
SunfallE
First of all spy46 I've mentioned to you before that using proper spelling is a must, in other words, using abbreviations like GF and tho are not acceptable. Just as it's important to use punctuation as well as capitalization. It just makes it a whole lot easier for other members to understand what you are trying to say. Members who continue to post without trying to improve are candidates for ban. So I expect you to work on that. Try using something like Word or Hotmail [which is free] to check your posts. Anyway, as for the actual topic. It's rare for someone to tell me I can't do a hobby that I enjoy. Or to make comments that hurt, they just don't join in. lol Also, seeing that she only said that it was weird for you to want to make a helmet like that, I fail to see how that translates into she thought it was stupid. You might want to actually ask her if she thinks it really is stupid, because it could have been nothing more than simply finding it odd. spy46
no thats what she said. but in any case, the question is more of has any one ever talked down about some thing you wanted to do that was a hobby and what was it. eg: *dad* what the hell is wrong with you son, you dont have time to play with a stupid thing like that. or what ever. Horendithas
no thats what she said.
Ah then your original statement here is incorrect?
she acted like i said i was from mars or some thing, saying that it was weird, and im not sure but i think she said it was stupid.[/B']:animestun
Since you did say you were not sure. ;) Also, I am going to repeat SunfallE's warning about improving your posts since you simply posted again without making any attempt to use capitalization as well as proper spelling and grammar. You can and will get yourself banned if you continue to post and ignore the warnings. It's not that hard to do, especially when you're already posting fairly well and simply need to clean it up a bit. I won't warn you again. As for the topic, I've never really encountered it since the few people who were negative about my hobbies or interests were people I did not consider my friends anyway. So their input was pretty useless and I simply ignored it.
Rachmaninoff
have you ever wanted to do some thing that was a part of your hobby, only to have some one you love tell you some thing that kind of hurt you in some way.
Well I wouldn't say that it hurt me, at least not seriously, but when I was about twelve I decided I was going to be a professional musician. I had been taking lessons for the Cello since I was about eight and I decided that my little music hobby as my parents liked to call it was more than just something I did for fun. I'm quite sure they didn't mean to hurt my feelings back then but I clearly remember my father telling me that I needed to pick something that didn't require real dedication. Which really made me mad since I felt dedicated! lol Ironically, that hobby has become my career since I will be getting my Masters degree at the end of this semester. Now my new hobby that they give me odd looks over is Anime and Manga since I've only been into that for a year and a half. So some of my friends are surprised that I visit this site as much as I do. I'm sure they'll get use to it though. Heh. And if they're smart, they'll do the same thing. Also, now that I'm an adult, those occasional rude comments don't bother me at all, especially since most of the time they don't realize that they are being rude. ChibiHorsewoman
Well Glory be, he actually did make this into a thread... wee. :animestun I never said he was stupid. I said that the idea was strange. A paper machè helmet? Why do you need something like that? It just seemed strange. And completely out of the blue because I had called to tell him about something else, or just how my work day had been so far. And before I know it the conversation turns into a craft project. As for my hobbies. My mom thinks my drawing is childish, yes I am a horrid artist. But I think calling drawing childish is a bit harsh. I don't show her my writing anymore. Not that I think my writing is bad- although I've gotten some harsh criticism on some fanfiction. But I don't let it all stop me.
