ChibiHorsewoman
I have to make this thread because I'm noticing more and more that I tend to be a bit bossy and something of a control freak when I can be. Well that, and there was a quiz in an old issue of Cosmo about if you're good girlfriend material and one of the questions was about control. Honestly, I don't think I'm that bad. I listen to what other people say, I take turns. I don't feel as though I hog an entire conversation- although the washer and dryer are another question. Yes, I'm high maintenence at times and sometimes I'm a bit of a well... it rhymes with witch, but only when I need to get my point across. So I propose this question to the rest of you all, do you consider yourself a control freak, a leader, a follower or somewhere in between?
2010DigitalBoy
In my home life, I am a manipulative uber-control-freak who bends everyone around me to my will. None of my famly members trust me at all, but i always get what I want from them. In my social life, I take backseat and let others lead me along. I am only slightly assertive. I force my point when no one will listen, too. Perfectly normal. Or should I seek therapy? But... You're worried about what COSMO thinks?! This is a strange and foreign concept to me. I don't worry about if I'm a good girlfriend or not from a quiz, I let the guy I'm with let me know about that. Then I decide if maybe there's something I can change or if he's just being a whiner and should shut up and take it like a man. I know some parts of being assertive are human nature. In some cases I have to use that human nature to help out someone I'm taking care of or make sure that the meal I ordered from the resturaunt is really a flatbread pita instead of shredded steak on a hot dog bun. But other times it's having total control over anyone's car radio, the TV and sometimes the room temp at people's houses. And don't even get me started on my 'private life'

Sometimes I can be a bit forceful in the matter. I even sit my friends down and force them to play mulitplayer Tales of Symphonia with me. I wouldn't be worried. Thanks for clarifying the Cosmo thing, though, you don't seem like the type of person to concern yourself with that stuff.

SunfallE
We really need the option most of the time instead of going from sometimes straight to always. Because in the end, most of the time I prefer to be in control. Why? Because I'm not married and don't have shared responsibilities so I dislike strangers trying to essentially boss me around when most of what I do does not affect them at all. Plus I've spent well over the last decade being the one who is responsible for my care and everything that I do. Now the reason I say most of the time is because when it comes to things where my friends are involved I like shared control. I really have no interest in attempting to be in charge, though often I do end up in that position. More along the lines of leading verses true control though. And when I'm dating, I like for both of us to decide, even if it's a case of taking turns picking what we want to do. As well as what music we listen to, who drives, etc. Though admittedly the driving bit is one I have to work on. It will sound rude, but learning to drive a semi truck put me through quite a bit of training and a lot of people... it's downright scary how they fly down the road without paying attention to a lot of stuff. I don't actively watch for things, but after putting in so many hours driving, it's become habit. And having a boyfriend get angry at another driver when they were the one at fault... It never goes over very well when I point out that he was the idiot who cut the other person off. XP I'm sure it goes without saying, but the quickest way for a boyfriend or anyone else to end up not being my friend... Is to start telling me what we are going to be doing all the time instead of asking. lol
Dagger
My answer to this depends on the meaning of control freak, I suppose. I like to do what I want when I want, but I never try to force others to join me. ~Dagger~

eleanor
I'm a control freak when I have to work at school with people I know aren't smarter than me. Other than that, I'm usually chill with anything that goes on. Physically, I'm a total anti-control freak. I'm one of those 'messy but I know where everything is' people, so my room and school papers are usually disorganized, but I rarely lose anything or don't know where anything is.

Starfire0567
I'm very good with taking orders from people but I have to admit that sometimes I get sick of it! I can be somewhat bossy at times but never a control freak. But I do not like overly controlling people! I can't stand people who try to control all my time. Rachmaninoff
Like Dagger said, I think it would depend on what you mean by control freak ChibiHorsewoman. For the most part I am in control of everything around me, for the same reasons Beth already mentioned. And yet like Dagger said I never try to force others to join me. So depending on what it is I'm more than sometimes but clearly not always the one in control. Though those who seem to think they should be the one to make all the decisions do get on my nerves and don't remain my friend for long. That just gets boring real quick.
