Things that make you feel old

It's simple really, the further you get into your teenage years... the older it seems that you start to feel. Or rather in my case, it seems that certain changes are what make me feel like I'm getting old and losing my childhood, more that turning fifteen ever did.

I'll start with a few things that make me feel old, like I've lost that sparkle of innocence that being a kid had to offer. The first offender would be taking English classes. Even though I absolutely adore reading, I positively hate spelling and grammar, it's like it takes something so mystical and fun to read and attempts to change it into rules.

I like rules, but for the more logical subjects like Math. English just seems like it's something that's not suppose to make sense. And yes I know that made no sense, I just hate English classes! lol

The other thing that makes me feel old? Girly stuff. I have never ever been into to things like make up, perfume, frilly things, etc. About the only exception to that is that I love the color pink. XP There's just something wonderful about pink. But the rest of the so called girly stuff? Blech.

That is until back in August when I finally found a perfume that I actually like. Well to be honest... I'll blame Beth since she's the one who gave me a little sample of the stuff. And what makes it worse, the name is cute too. Pink Sugar. I love how it smells.

So what things made you feel old and why? I'm sure once this gets going I'll think of other things that basically made me feel like I was growing up to fast. lol That I was getting old. XP

The things I've become interested in don't really make me feel old; I don't think being seventeen qualifies for that. But I've grown out of a lot of things, now that I think about it.

I never step foot in clothing stores like A&F and Hollister anymore, and now my favorite stores are J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, etc.

I've actually started to like perfume, too. Ralph Lauren Romance and Vera Wang Princess are my favorites, but I don't really wear perfume often. I used to like the typical heavy eyeliner+mascara that most of the white girls at my school wear everyday, but now I see it as dragging and unnecessary. I used to like them, but now I hate purses that blatantly show off their brand (i.e. Coach) with obnoxious patterns of their brandname all over it.

I can also now stop myself from doing anything to start studying or working with just a small amount of will, which is probably the biggest and most important change. I used to not be able to pull myself from a tv show I enjoyed, but now I don't think twice about turning the television off halfway through to finish up some homework.

I have no idea what a blu-ray disk is. D:

But that's pretty much it. I'm only 16 and I never really feel any older.

Oh, I guess thinking about college and the fact that in less than two years I will finally get out of this house makes me feel kind of old.

I know how to put on make-up without looking either silly or trashy. That makes me feel old. (Ironically, right now I'm sitting in my drum major make-up & hair and don't exactly look the classiest...) But anyway, for years I tried to figure out how to apply it evenly and nicely without using too much or too little, and in just the last few months, I have accomplished it! Yes! Now I know how to look gorgeous (at least, I'd like to tell myself that :))!

The other thing is college applications. The fact that I've made probably the most mature decision in wanting to go to a women's school in Massachusetts but only if I can get enough financial aide. I feel so old.

Well the idea was to talk about things that happened when you yourself were a teenager, things that at that point made you feel old or older. :p I'm not talking so much about physical age as I am more of a mental perception of growing older. ^_~ That's why I titled the thread: Things that make you feel old. Since I'm sure for each decade, from the teen years, to the twenties to the thirties, etc. They all probably have unique things to them that might make one feel old. lol

Oh so many things that make one feel old once you've gotten to my age! Though ironically, all the fuss about turning 50 is so overrated. By the time you get there, it's just another day instead of something so horrible or dramatic!

Anyway, the one I remember most was when I was sixteen. You see in my family, all the brunettes start turning gray when they are sixteen. It's not a lot, but it's how it has always happened. And sure enough, shortly after I turned sixteen I got that first gray hair. I was mortified and I quickly pulled it out!

I got over it of course and now my hair is pure silver and white, but I still remember that shock of looking in the mirror and seeing my first gray hair, I felt so old! Even though I was only sixteen at the time.

Well, I guess not so many things make me feel old, as how everyone says I look 14 when I'm actually turning 18 next month. :/

But, when me and my friends were remembering old cartoon shows, toys and books we used to lover those many years ago, it reminds you that life goes by so fast and that you actually are old.

Remember Thunder Cats? Riiigghhht.

it's all those dances the kids are doing, [the Souljia Boy, the Spiderman, the Batman, etc] and all these new slang terms they're coming up with, half of them I've never heard of [if I could remember any, I would of posted them here]

since when did: awesome, rad, and groovy go out of style?
and when did the hair thing [majority of the hair covers one eye] go into style?
plus when did music start becoming so simple? singing about "new bathing apes" and broken hearts, seems to be the ticket to success in song writing nowadays.

I think that's a sign I'm getting old.
another sign: no one's still heard of Bloc Party.

No one after my generation seems to know why Boris Yeltsin is. Boris Yeltsin! That added up to just have become 18, makes me feel real, real old.

Oh, and my IQ says I'm a bunch of years older than I am anyway, so perhaps I'm still running behind with feeling old.

I know isn't it a really nice smell? Ah well I still love Vera Wang's new scent, Princess. It even comes in a purple heart shaped bottle

Anyways. Things that make me feel old?

Well for one two of my cousins who are ten years younger than me (I'm twenty-six) are now driving. And one of my cousins who is seven years younger than me is in college. I used to babysit these guys and change their diapers! Now one of them has a myspace talking about how he raps and gets a lot of bling yadda yadda.

Another is the fact that in two years my daughter will be starting Kindergarten. I was twenty-three when I had her... that means I'll be twenty-eight... which means I'll be closer to thirty. I think I need to go lay down... and then go buy some sunscreen.

My brother is also helping the cause, he'll be twenty-three next month. This is just crazy because my boyfriend is also twenty-three so you wouldn't think that it makes that much of a difference. But since this is my brother it does. It makes a big difference because this is my younger brother... who is also about a foot taller than me.

Okay, now I have to go pack my dinner and go back to work

Give us a break. Heck, I'm almost half way to my mid-life crisis. I have roughly 3/4 of a life left and that's if I don't get killed. I knew I should have done more with my life.

But seriously, what make me feel old is when I have to explain to freshmen who Gambit was.

I'll be getting my masters degree this semester and though it's a good thing... All it does is reinforce just how long ago High School really was. I'll also be turning 27 shortly. XP Moving out from my parent's place made me feel old as well, though in a good way. I've been out of there long enough that I can't imagine moving back. Anyway, now if I can just get my picture to look older since people still assume I'm either in my late teens or very early twenties. I want to look older, not just feel it! lol

When kids run around doing all the old stuff I did about a year ago. I'm not old, but I feel older when that happens. I always hung around with the big kids and they showed me the cool stuff way earlier =D

My GCSEs make me feel old, and my grades. I don't know why, just having really high grades makes me feel older than the thick-skull students in my school. And having two GCSEs already makes me feel old, going to college opening days tomorrow will make me feel old...

Oh, and sitting on Cathedral Gardens (wiki it or something) and watching all the kids who used to be my friends go by. We didn't fall out, though we don't talk anymore. Seeing all my old, old school friends from primary, too. You know, it reminds me of memories and changing in the past year or so, and I think change makes you feel older. Yeah. It does.

Being told you look like a man also makes you feel old ¬_¬

Realizing that the cartoons I grew up with were long gone and no longer airing on TV. As well as finally finishing High School and starting college and then getting a degree.

But for something more recent? Going with Aaryanna to the Mall to pick something up and having the sales clerk mistake me for her mother. XP It doesn't help that I am old enough to be her mother. lol

hmmm... ok, well, when I was a teenager, my parents splitting up made me feel old, realizing I'd have to choose which one to live with, and then realizing , much to my chagrin and dismay, that I was in no way mature enough to make a decision and stick with it. so began my years of bouncing back and forth between cities... thank goodness that's over. :animestun actually, everything that made me feel old when I was a teenager was unpleasant and unwelcome. :animesigh

Having Rheumatoid Arthritis makes me feel really old. Seeing how arthritis is one of those diseases that people associate with geriatric people it kind of lumps me in with all the oldies. To top it off since I donate to the arthritis organizations I get junk mail for wheelchairs, medicare and the AARP even sent me membership information. :animecry:

On a bit of a funny note the first time I felt old was when I was at my first job and a little boy, must have been around 5, called me ma'am. I know he was being polite but I was only 16! Miss would have been fine or even Ms., but ma'am. Oi, that was a depressing day.

my grandmother had rheumatoid arthritis really bad. you kind of expect that someone in their nineties is going to have health concerns like that, but when I was about 14, all my joints siezed up and I could barely move! :o I know about being too young to feel that old, lol. I didn't know what on earth was going on, and to top it all off, the doctors didn't either. don't you just love it when you go to them for answers, and they sit there and shrug their shoulders and shake their head and tell you they don't know? I'm not too impressed with my HMO... :animesigh fortunately, the problem went away on its own. I still don't know what that was though.
