James
Event Master Auditions So the time has come to choose a new Event Master. During his short time in the role, White did a fantastic job. But now we need to get things moving again and we need an energetic and creative Event Master to lead the way! Rather than approach potential candidates or hold a competition, I thought it would be a good idea to simply hold open applications. This way those people who are truly interested will put in the effort. It also gives everyone the chance to have a go. All you have to do is answer some simple questions and I will choose based on that. Think of it as being a bit like a sign-up sheet for an RPG; feel free to be creative and thoughtful with your responses, but don?t feel that you need to answer with massive amounts of detail ? I?m sure your enthusiasm and interest will come through if you?re genuine. :catgirl: Also I should mention that I will be creating an Events Suggestion Thread right here in the Convention Center soon, so that any new Event Master will be able to work with other members to create events. For these applications though, I just want to see your ideas! Anyone may apply, including all members and Moderators. And now, on to the questions. What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. Are you going to be committed to the job? Why should we make you Event Master? And that?s it. Some pretty simple questions, but that?s all I need to know. Good luck to all who apply!
2010DigitalBoy
What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. Have you seen me? I'm on more than anyone else. I actually have a compulsion to check this site obsessively. I'm pretty sure I even have the most posts per day of anyone on OB, lol Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? Of course! As a person who's obsessed with creating projects, but can never get the support to continue, I know how important it is to work on bringing ideas to life, and anyone who comes forward I will gladly assist. List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. My goal for OB events is to have an even mixture or big events spanning over time and small events lasting over shorter periods. One of my biggest problems with OB events is that they suffer the curse of not being very inclusive. It's always either some kind of popularity contest, or something that only appeals to a portion of OB (like, one that only rpers will care about, or one that only anime fans will care about.) and that they are almost always some huge event that doesn't hold peoples' attentions for long enough. As the event master with WAY too much time on his hands, I thought it might be cool to set up something called Event Friday (or Wednesday, or whatever day I decide on.) where every Friday, I'd host a small event for people to participate in. These could be anything. Maybe something like the Otaku Lounge Quiz where it's like a game show in which our goal is to buzz in with the answer first (in this case, post) and the questions are things like Q: In which thread did a moderator use the word 'sex' three times in one post? or Q: What are the post numbers of each line quoted by Allamorph on Monday? and then whoever answers the most questions first by the next week would be the winner. Or perhaps a game called Race to the Golden Thread where all competitors must create a thread and race to see who can reach the second page fastest, or maybe they have to get the most posts by the end of the week (with the catch being that they aren't allowed to post more than x number of times themselves.) Or maybe a contest where everyone has to see who can make the most posts with 6 or more lines in a week: My point is, these ae the most simplistic ones but they're still fun and might drive people to be more active all-around and get competitive. And if every week gets too tiring or people don't care as much, then I'd span it out to 2 weeks and tweak the missions, but I doubt that'll happen looking at something like The Anime Feud, which only got more and more popular with time. In addition to these short events, there might be a monthly big event, and these would be ones with more specific themes in mind. For instance, for November, coming up, it might be a Thanksgiving theme. Perhaps in that month it would be called Mediaphile's Thanksgiving Extravaganza (okay, that's a stupid title, but I'm going as I go) in which participants all have the chance to create something special that relates to Thanksgiving -ie picture, story, song, whatever - that's a pretty simplistic idea, but at other times it could be more complex (also, there would obviously be things done differently each month and the same month wouldn't be the same each year.) Maybe come December there's a list of activities to choose from or do all of. Like: ~I'm Dreaming of a Black Christmas - The December Event~ A: Christmas is right up the road, and I know I'll be hittin' the drinks and crankin' the tunes! Unfortunately, festive tunes aren't my gig. Can you do me a favor? Make me a 15-song mixtape of songs that remind you of the season.
Christmas? Ah, the American industrialism at it's best. The snow is stained with the blood of the condemned... 1. The Desolation Song - Agalloch - The lyrics are downright icy, and Agalloch always has that feeling of being out in the cold. Kind of like a drunkard on Christmas, out all on his own. 2. One Trillion Dollars - Anti-Flag ETC...
B: Wouldn't you know it? Frosty's gone and melted on me, the jerk. I managed to find his corn-cob pipe, button nose, and all that stuff, but I'm missing a few things he was carrying for me. Would you mind helping me by looking for his pieces in threads with over 12 posts?
Wow, I never would have guessed that Frosty was hitting the stash, but I guess this 10-pound bag of marijuana[/b'] wouldn't have been in the 13th post of What are you watching/reading now? thread just because SunfallE is a drug addict
ETC... In addition to the monthly and weekly/biweekly events, there'd have to be a 4-month dealio that's more like the events we have now, because people still enjoy those and it's not like we can just forget about some of the great OB traditions. And, of course, the yearly Nifty Fifty would be intact. Are you going to be committed to the job? Why should we make you Event Master? I have dreamed of holding an important position on OB for years, but only recently have I felt that I really am up to the job. Otakuboards is a huge part of my life, and I have striven to make it fun and interesting as much as I can. I have a lot of dedication to the site and given the power and responsibility, I would take as much time as possible (and that's a lot of time XD) to better the site. The reason I think that I'm the most cut out for the job is that of anyone on Otakuboards, I firmly believe that I am the one who's here the most, the one with the most ability and dedication, and all-around the man for the job. I know I have enough creative ideas to always reinvent myself and create new an exciting events that always keep the site active.
Aberinkula
What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. For availability, I get on every day for at least 1 or 2 hours of time. I spend less time on school work than OB, by about 3 hours a day, so that shows how much time I invest on OB. So I'd have enough time to tally votes. Plus it would help me pass the time and figure out a better understanding for the members choices. When I'm event master, I will check this forum everyday and try my best to spawn events, and even make a small one. I'd take my time o create a monthly event and a yearly event, with small ones in the middle. Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? More than happy. I want nothing more than to help ideas come to life. Another upside is that with member crated events, there's more availability for Events, each proving fun and valuable. It would also give members the chance to prove themselves. members are often aware of Community events more than regular RPS or such. Plus some member could find friends to enjoy the OB Experience with. And the members are the biggest part of these events, not me. List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. Well I've always wanted a writing contest. The Bermuda Triangle event was fun in the last round. Being able to create the winning story was just amazing for me. Perhaps one of the greatest things to happen on OB. The writing Event would be in the style of a tournament. 8 selected members would compete with each other and go up the ladder. During the final round, I would have the members create and RPG for the community. And whoever has the most successful, and enjoyable RPG would win. My other idea is sort of like the Nifty fifty, except it doesn't deal with OB. It would actually deal with anime, music, television, movies and books. Members would nominate the best in entertainment, and the fifty most nominated things would become 1 of the 50st best of the year. Are you going to be committed to the job? Why should we make you Event Master? I'd be very committed. After White retired from Event Master, I wanted to become the new one. In fact during Otaku idol, I wanted to join, but I wasn't as good with stuff like that at the time. I'd love to make events and help other members in having a hand with their Event ideas as well. When I'm event master I won't shirk off my duties. I made a commitment and I'm sticking to it. I have a bigger place on OB now than I ever did, and the experience has made me a bigger part of OB. Plus, if I was the Event Master, I'd feel even better knowing that I can make a difference to OB and it's member base. That's why I'd make a great Even Master. Plus, I have confidence, I don't think I could make a difference, I KNOW I can! Plus, my mind is a bank for ideas and I'd love to vent them out. I can study my progress and tell which ideas aren't interesting to members and tell which one are interesting to members so I can know what to do next. --- EDIT: This is going to be interesting, I'm going against DB. Good luck dude!
Aaryanna
What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. I?m usually able to be online every day. ^_^ I don?t really see extra time as an issue since I already invest a certain amount of time in extra activities here. It would simply be a matter of prioritizing what I?m currently doing so I think having extra work for an Event wouldn?t be a problem. Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? Actually I think that having member input is essential to the Event Master position. Not only does it improve the overall creativity and ideas, but it really makes it more community driven if people can submit ideas and have them worked out and run as an event. ^_^ I think having members involved will make the events even more fun and diverse. List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. One idea I have would be a type of word scramble where I would take titles of say members, or threads and mix the letters up. Members would then have the chance to unscramble the letters and post what they think the answer is. For each round that someone answers correctly they would earn a point. It would be a mix of simple words and more complex ones that are harder since it?s more than one word. Another idea I?ve already been thinking about is a picture contest, but not for the best quality, but rather for the most amusing and creative content. For example one round members would be asked to submit say a diorama of something meant to represent OtakuBoards or say a part of the boards like the Theater. They would then take a picture of the diorama they made using a camera or a cell phone camera and post their entry. It would then be open to members to vote for the one they enjoyed the most. And though it?s not my idea, I think it?s important to follow up on the current events if possible and to continue with the Nifty Fifty since that?s such a great event in my opinion. I can?t imagine the boards without a great event like that since I look forward to it each year. Are you going to be committed to the job? Yes. I?ve been looking forward to a suggestion thread ever since I did the Bermuda Triangle Mystery with indifference. It was a lot of fun making the banners and thinking of ways to make the clues different and interesting to search for. In fact the two ideas I presented are something I?ve been working on so they?d be ready to present once the thread for member suggestions went up. Why should we make you Event Master? I can?t give a concrete reason other than I would do my best to come up with fun ideas and to work with members on their ideas too. Japan
After finally reading the applications so far, my ideas do not seem so original anymore but here we go. What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. I come here at least one every day. Otakuboards has at least an hour or two of my time everyday sadly, but hey it is a bad habit. If I am here I might as well do something besides just posting and making threads everyday. I've helped with several things on the site before I feel like I know how things run around here. I've tallied votes once or twice before on the Nifty Fifty event before it became that. Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? Being just an ordinary member myself I know how it feels to try and get my voice heard for ideas. I feel that the event master should not be the only one responsible for thinking of event ideas. If there is some help in the idea process the events become a lot more enjoyable. I feel that the event master should work closely with the rest of the OB community to help bring fresh and fun ideas for all of us to enjoy. So if I become event master I will work with everyone for that exact purpose. I know how it feels to be ignored. List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. Now here is the place that I felt somewhat stuck, especially after reading the other posts in this thread. My first idea is to basically hold a monthly picture contest. For example, A Halloween costume contest. Everyone takes a picture of themself in their costume doing a pose. Then after everyone votes for their favorite, I will post the winner in time for Halloween. For Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, etc, have people post a picture of what they feel the meaning of that Holiday is and members vote for their favorite and that person is featured in an Announcement and perhaps we can have an Otakupedia entry to list the winners. For my second idea, we can bring back the Otakuboards banner contest. That way we can get some different skins besides Geisha and the default blue one. There can poetry contests, short story contests that follow a theme, etc. With me as event master you will not have to worry about losing Nifty Fifty. I too look forward to that every year and it is a great opportunity to look back and see how time flew by. Are you going to be committed to the job? Why should we make you Event Master? I am more responsible about tasks online than offline. I do not see why I wouldn't be commited. You should make me Event Master because I feel I can bring more to the table besides just making graphics in photoshop or anime this and that. Sure those things are great but there is a wide variety of interests here besides that. As event master, I will make sure to make things fair and fun for everyone, not just for the majority.
Guest The Blue Jihad
I'm available. That's all you need to know, fearless leader. I'm happy to help members bring their events to fruition, provided the event or idea doesn't suck. I have quality standards, damn it. Events? My main event is Fight Club. It'll be an annual thing. Whoever can attend, will. We find an old, abandoned warehouse or something, grab a few videocameras, and beat the **** out of each other. Not to the death, but close enough. We film it, of course, and host it online. Panel of judges (members) evaluate the fights on style, technique, and outright brutality. Secondary event...I don't know...BanHammer? Gameshow. Contestants fight for the all-mighty BanHammer. He or she who wins is entitled to temp-ban one of the other contestants who betrayed him or her. And you will get betrayed. Good times for all. I'll be as committed as I am to inspiring fear and paranoia. You should hire me because I'm sociopathic, and I know how to work a crowd.
Gavin
Heh, I promise, no Kumite this time around. :animesmil What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. Well I'm on OB for probably an hour or so most weekday nights, and even longer at the weekends, so I genuinely don't think that I'd have any problems in having to invest more time here. Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? Events have always been community-centric, so I see working with members as being the absolutely first thing any Event Master should be doing. For a long time I've believed that an Event Master should always be able to be approachable by members with ideas for events and be able to work with them to bring these to the rest of the boards. This way, there's always a stable supply of events, and members can feel that they have a genuine role in the process, rather than waiting for the Event Master to dish something out once every few months. List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. Otaku Tag Tag, one of those really simply games from our childhood, which along with Hide and Seek are often some of our best memories. So I though to myself, seeing as OB games are really fun, why not both and see if they would work. The basic premise to Otaku Tag is actually really simple. We take a group of volunteers and select one at random to be the first tag-er, then we give the others a buzzword, which when used by any of the players anywhere on the board will allow the tag-er to tag them, making that person the tag-er until he or she tags the next person who uses the buzzword. At the end of the day, say 9 PM, the current tag-er will be eliminated, a new buzzword will be given and we'll continue until we've got only one player left after about a fortnight. Now for those of you asking, just what the hell a buzzword is, the beautiful thing is it can be any word. For instance any of them that I just used there, and yes they'll be common words, so the only way you can absolutely guarantee that you won't get tagged is if you don't use the word. But here's the thing, you'll still have to act like a normal member, posting normally on OB, thus increasing the chance you'll use that word. For example, if the word was "work" I've used it already and can be tagged. The game is over when we have only one contestant left, and they'll be crowned the Champion of OB Tag. As for how to tag, well it's really rather simple, you just got into the topic that they've posted in, and make a post, including the word "TAG" in the first line. RPGs are a bit tricky, as despite holding a larger volume of text, they're limited in the number of people who can post. Maybe though you'll get lucky. OB Hide and Seek OB Hide and Seek is something that I suppose is somewhat derived from the Scavenger Hunt and Bermuda Triangle events, as it operates on a fairly similar premise. Again like Otaku Tag, it's a really simply game with really simple rules, as honestly "really simple" were my working words for any events I was going to do. Like Otaku Tag, OB Hide and Seek will involve a lot of players, as any good hide and see game does, though unlike a normal game, there are going to be eliminations, just so that things don't take too long. Unlike a normal game of H&S where everyone just darts off to hide behind trees and stuff, nobody will actually be required to do anything activity-wise out of the ordinary. Instead they're going to choose a location for themselves in some thread on the board, it can be anywhere where everyone has access to [Secret Yaoi Hentai forum posters take note] from any time period. You will then make up a riddle to describe this location for example: "The Manifestation of Renegade Hunters" Would be Maverick Hunters: Personification. You'll PM me your chosen location and I'll edit the first post and add the normal banner with your name on it and you'll then post your riddle in the Event Thread. The person on counting duty will have to wait 24 hours until everyone involved has their riddle posted, and then they have 72 hours to find everyone's hiding places. The first person caught by the seeker will be eliminated, and the next person will be the next seeker, who will take over after everyone has got their new riddles in. The end of the competition end, as usual when we have only one person left standing, and they get the Champion of Hide and Seek user title. Are you going to be committed to the job? Why should we make you Event Master? Am I going to be committed to the job ? Absolutely. I would never seek a position like this just because of the privileges that come with it, it would be selfish of me and unfair to everyone else. OB is a great community with fantastic members who I'm proud to call my friends, and in applying for this job, I think I can make the community even more enjoyable for everyone. As for why you should make me Event Master, I genuinely found this hard to answer. I believe that in being given this opportunity, the traits of friendliness, respect and fun which I have tried to demonstrate over my time here on OB would allow me to get in touch with members who don't feel well know enough, or don't have confidence in themselves, to get involved with other better known members.
Korey
I've been waiting for this one for a long time, cause I've had some cool ideas and need to put them into fruition, but it's kind of intimidating to be a member and posting them. Onto the Questions... What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. I have no problem with being available for the site. I am on the site at least once or twice every day for a good period of time and if I need to committ to spending more time on the site, then so be it. I'm here to be of service to the members. That's what's important, is that I'm here to serve the OB community. Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? Oh absolutely! I love seeing some of the things that our members come up with, so I'd like to see that their ideas get promoted well and help make sure their ideas come to fruition. That is something I feel that the Event Master should be doing in the first place. As the Event Master, I would do my absolute best job to make sure that any idea presented by the members can come to fruition and if not possible at that time, then I would make sure there would be time to accomidate them in the near future. I'd like to point out that I'd like to see more member driven submissions rather than me coming up with stuff, not because I can't be creative, but to make sure that ideas of all sorts can be put into the fray, and others can drive their ideas off of previous ones. List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. An Annual Otakuboards Award Show. This would be something we do every year, around X-Mas time, where we would nominate people in various Categories such as (Member of the Year, Mod of the Year, most hilarious poster, most quoted in others posts, and other categories based on user submission) I would have a nomination thread going and then a voting thread. The actual awards would consist of a long post of giving out the awards to others. I would like to make little digital e-cards that we can send out to the winners in the form of a PM or e-mail. We would even have people who would act as presenters and so forth. The Otakuboards showdown: Battle of the Brains. This is a sillier premise, but I thought it'd be cool. Essentialy it's like a fight, but with skills that everyone has on the Boards...words. It's basically a verbal argument where each poster is given A topic (like abortion or practically anything that comes out of the Lounge, lol) and four posts each (one to open their argument, one to present why we should choose their argument, one to rebuke the other contestant, and one to close their argument) and the winner is decided by a panel of other members who wins the argument based on various criteria (persuasive technique, hard facts, clarity of arguments, rebuttal skills, overall speaking skill...etc). The winner would move on in a tournament style until the ultimate poster was decided. It's a little corny, but I'd like to see how people can use the skills they have available to them here on the Boards. Are you going to be committed to the job? Why should we make you Event Master? Committed isn't the right word for this...more like obsessed. I would be completely involved with the job because I love what the members of the site can come up with and I have various pipe dreams that I would like to see implemented on the site. I feel that I should be selected as Event Master because I would be there for the members and make sure that all ideas can be accomidated and considered with the utmost care. With a great community like this one, having a job to serve them would be more than an honor for me. I'm also a very easy person to get along with, I rarely try to argue with members and if I do have that rare disagreement, it is normally handled in the most respectful and tactful way possible. I never make fun of members and flame them and I always try to maintain the integrity of the boards and its members. Thank you for your time and pateince OB team Korey
Justin
What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. I'll be the first to admit that my availability is unsure. Today, it's great. It has been all week. But tomorrow? Who knows. I am, however, very soon to be getting a more reliable internet connection. Aside of a temporarily insufficient internet connection, I visit this site every day, at least two times a day. And yes, I could and would do more, if needed. Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? Within reason. I'll get behind ideas that I believe in fervently; and I believe members here are creative enough to keep me swimming in them. But I won't feign interest in something lame. List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. The Great Revolution: This would be a board-wide event. The idea is that a certain group of members (called the --insert political name here-- party) will stage a political coup of the entire Board. This, of course, would be feigned, and not literal. This would be accompanied by a subsequent 'rebel' party, antithetical to the new ruling party. As I said, this would be a board-wide event. For instance, you would have official political debates staged in the Lounge, RPG-style battles occurring in the Theater, and full-on propaganda wars going on in the Anthology and Art Studio areas of the Cultural District. The way this event would be won or lost would be by political elimination. An individual participant would be forced to the sidelines by losing all three of the events previously mentioned. These events would be judged by a panel of least-biased volunteers from both parties, approved by myself. The party left with no more active members would then lose. There are several other key details that I won't mention. Because, if I'm chosen, I'd have to go over them with James and keep them under wraps. Otaku Guinness: This would basically be what it sounds like. A board-wide effort to collect as many Otaku records as possibly, and catalog them in one place. Are you going to be committed to the job? Why should we make you Event Master? If you make me the Event Master, I can guarantee my absolute dedication. If I didn't know I could do it, I wouldn't apply. I'll be constantly brainstorming with other members for new ideas, and I'll make both The Great Revolution and Otaku Guinness extremely memorable events in OB history, as well as any other events I put my hands to. -Justin
