Aaryanna
Alright... Now first off this is a repeat of this thread here: [thread=45377]Moderation[/thread] It's been a while since that though and it was before I became a member of the site so that makes it fair game in my mind. ^_^ Plus I?ve been thinking about moderation related work ever since I applied for the Event Master deal going on here: [thread=58243]Event Master Auditions[/thread] Which by the way? if you?re interested, get over there and get your application in! ^_~ Anyway, on to the questions! [and yes I really did lift them from the previous thread :p] To Moderators and the rest of the staff: If you could drop your current post and have someone just as good as you take over, would you? To Former Staff Members: Would you return to your post? To everyone else: Would you want to become a staff member, and if so, which post would you want? Now for myself, I have no interest in dropping my current position, well other than the fact that I?m applying to become the next Event Master, so I guess you could say I?m looking to change my responsibilities. But right now, I love coming to this site and I have a lot of friends here so I?ve no interest in leaving that behind. However, at the same time, if I was asked to step down so someone else could have a go at it, I would not be bothered by it. It?s been fun and though I would miss some of the stuff connected to it? I?d still hang out here with my friends and stalk Des of course. ^_^
Aberinkula
Would you want to become a staff member, and if so, which post would you want?
Well, If I was asked to be a moderator, I'd apply in a heartbeat. Faster than a speeding bullet, faster than a train, FASTER THAN LIGHTING! That's how fast my "yes of coarse I'll take the position" reply would travel. I'd enjoy modding either the Ampitheatre or the Lounge because they are the best places on OB.
Justin
I can't remember what my former responsibilities were, aside of the Lounge. I was the equivalent of a category moderator at some point, but I couldn't tell you what category and whether or not it still exists. It was cool, I suppose. But I've always tried to approach positions like that as responsibility first; enjoyment second. That's probably why I had a hard time adjusting and went a back and forth with it a couple of times. At this point, no. I wouldn't accept it. Simply because my internet connection is far from reliable, and I don't think I could meet the demands. Aside of that, it would depend on whether or not I felt up to the task when asked. I place a pretty heavy weight on things like that, and pay attention to every detail I can, which is kind of taxing. -Justin
Raiha
For the record, if someone asked you to be a moderator, you wouldn't apply. You'd just have to accept. To Former Staff Members: Would you return to your post? Hell no. God no. Please. No. I moderated the Poetry forum which is now of course the Anthology thread, and then of course OB revamped again and it got changed and shuffled around but that was years ago. That and I can't remember doing more than dealing with ridiculous questions from newbies and handling a stack of PMs that just made me want to choke myself to death with my power cord. I hated being in a position of authority and in fact the only nice thing was being able to tell someone to stop posting spam before I closed their thread for ignoring me. Of course, now that Jokopoko and Ikillion are good friends of mine, I can still get that done, just through back channels and AIM. Which I prefer.

The13thMan
Would i ever want to be a mod? Uh... no effing way. Hahaha. God, i don't know why anybody would ever ask me, it seems i'm usually on the trouble end of moderation. I try often times to get around the censorship around here and i'm always going off topic. 'Tis my nature, i can't help it. I have gotten better though. I even apologize when i start dickin' off, back in the day i would've gave the person a good shove off and left it at that. ****, i'm getting off topic. Let's see... if i did mod i'd probably like to mod the lounge. That's the only place i ever frequent. Haha, unfortunately i'd probably end up manipulating my position and just start letting people get away with all kinds of stuff, so long as i thought it was either justified or funny. I also seem to be an on and off kinda poster. Sometimes i post a bunch in a given week, then i stop for a few and get back on for a few more. I couldn't keep it consistent. 2010DigitalBoy
Ever since I first signed up for OB I've wanted to be a mod. I looked up to them so much and wanted to be like them. I remember when my first account was banned and I resigned as MetalSonic700 I tried to sound smart and spellcheck my posts to try and get the mods to notice me. I was never a well-known member of OB so I always knew I wouldn't get noticed, so I let my posting slack a lot in the middle. However, when I abandoned Tical Blue to become F.O.Y (AKA this account) I once again wanted to try for modship. If you look at my first posts with this account, all of them are rediculously long and spellchecked XD. I had started typing my posts up in Word before transferring them here. Of course, by the time I got into my first stupid debate with DeathKnight I thouht my chances were shattered for sure with my ratboy reputation and all. However, I think that over the past however many months I've more than made up for it by being the most awesome dude evar >_> I honestly do think I could do a better job than a lot of mods, no offense. It's simply for the 2 reasons that 1.) I'm always here and 2.) I have a craving for order. Mind you, I'd make a bad mod because I'd be modding posts in all forums, being the first one getting to them, lol. That's why I made that post about wanting to be an admin, though I'm pretty sure that's not what thy do ^^;; Also, if I were a mod, all of the goddamn thread directories would be organized. Though it wouldn't bother me if I wasn't a staff member either. I didn't join this place with the intention of becoming staff. I joined it because I wanted some questions I had in regards to myOtaku answered. Though that just lead to me sticking around and doing more over here since I enjoy this place more than I do myOtaku. I still do stuff over there as well, just not as much as I do here. I can certainly understand why people wouldn't want to return to it since it's often more work than people think about. If anything I can certainly appreciate the work that goes into maintaining a place like this even more than I did before. Anyway, for now though, I'm perfectly content sticking around and as Aaryanana said, stalking Des is a must so I plan on staying for a while. :p

Though, on the other hand, I wouldn't want to go back to being a moderator either. I enjoy working on the higher up stuff a lot more than dealing with spam, and after having already modded for years it would be terribly boring to go back to only that. As much as I enjoy this site, my values are far too outdated and I'd dread being required to keep up on threads like the self-pleasure one that I wish I had never read. I like visiting and checking out what interests me and to be frank there is a lot that I'm happy to simply stay away from. This is definitely a case where the child is far better suited for the task than the parent when it comes to being the responsible one. Being a moderator would take the fun out of things in my opinion. Well at least for me that is.

James
Most people find, once they become a Moderator, that it isn't fun. It's like a job - it's a responsibility. It's a service to our community. So I think it's sort of odd when people think being Moderator would be totally amazing. I don't think it really gives you that much more visibility or anything...it just means you are basically volunteering to help the community out. And as Ken said, the worst thing you can do is proclaim your awesomeness (unless you're Desbreko). The truly awesome people never proclaim it - they are known as awesome because they are intelligent or funny or they're simply a nice person. The most famous people in OB's history are typically the quieter, more thoughtful and creative people. In other words, it's best to just be yourself and to do your best. You'll be noticed more that way than by jumping out there and selling yourself.
Justin
Is it really fair to hold people to standards you, yourdamnself, don't meet James? You talk of 'not selling yourself.' Well, I say you're the biggest sell-out here! You..you and your plush world of secret lounges, immaculate posts, and super secret projects. It'd be kinda cool to give something back to the community that I have been a part of for the great majority of my time online. If I were to moderate a forum, it'd probably be The Lounge or the Art Studio, since they're the two forums I most frequent. Panda
Well, it's about time I responded to this thread. I've been thinking about it for a while. I would not step down if there was someone "just as good", I would want someone better than me to take over my watch since I want the site to continue to grow versus just stay the same. Hopefully that makes some sense. As for my old job as Lounge Moderator, well, as Moderator of The Square it doesn't really feel like I've given that old job up. That along with the fact we've got great mods in the Lounge there is no reason for me to go back to my old mod job. :catgirl:
