I was a global mod on a gaming forum once. Really it wasn't all that different from being a regular member, I would just quietly relocate all the trouble posts to the mod forum for penalty counting.

Other than that and helping newcomers get to know the place it was no different than being a regular member.

Eventually though I gave up the position to settle a dispute- one of the admins had ome to dislike me because I was so quick and thourough in my moderating and made her feel unnecessary.
To everyone else:
Would you want to become a staff member, and if so, which post would you want?
I suppose the fact I just submitted an application to the Event Master thread really answers that question, heh :animesmil

Having working as an administrator on a separate site, one a lot smaller than OB, I have some idea of the work-load that actually goes into the job, though thankfully I never got any of the random IMs from random people.

For a long time I was, and I suppose to a certain degree still am, interested in a staff position in The Arena, or the Theatre as it is now. RPing was always my first love on OB, but I think with Events, there's even more scope for fun.

Without pride in oneself, one cannot be happy.
So what's the quote for too much misplaced-pride? =p

Honest truth, if I were asked to be a staff member I'd say yes, though I don't crave to be one, nor do I want or not want it. I'm exactly the same on OB as I am in real life, and since I take real life as it comes, I'll take OB as it comes. What happens happens. If I were to be a mod, it'd probably be somewhere down in the creative areas, since I post there most often, but that place is full right now.

I used to be a Moderator on three forums, one of which was about as big as OtakuBoards when I first joined. It was also where I managed a 50-odd page RPG, and the forum eventually crashed and died but I ended up becoming a global moderator. That place was cool. The other place... I was a mod because of OB, there were no rules there and when I become mod I started kicking some arse in the fanfiction area, then I got turned into a global mod =). That forum got hacked though. The other forum was a Manchester-based one, quite small, and we basically just banned people. Yeah. It was bad.

Being a mod, on those smaller forums at least, was fun. I don't know why, perhaps it's different on OB and harder work, being so much bigger and full of so many... errm... well, nevermind.
To Former Staff Members:
Would you return to your post?

Hell no. God no. Please. No.
Pretty much seconded, although less emphatically. :p

My brief tenure in the Art Studio was fun while it lasted. I'd like to think I was a zealous mod (and admittedly overzealous at times) who dedicated a lot of time and energy to the place without qualm. But when I saw myself neglecting basic tasks, I knew I just wasn't into it anymore.

I think it's natural for a lot of members to put modship on a pedestal. I guess it takes a brief step into the shoes for disillusionment.

Yeah, I see Moderator-ship as more of a responsibility and slight honor than a social platform. I'd be real leery of mods that gained their positions through sheer popularity.
Actually, I think it'd be really freakin' hilarious to see A_M with a mod rod. Every time another thread popped up that reeked of immaturity, she'd smack it down face-first on the floor. :p
Actually, considering a picture that was posted by Deus ex Machina in the New Members thread, I would have no issue over putting a smack down on that post and a temporary ban on the member in question for posting in extremely poor taste. But still in the end... NO.

Honestly though, that kind of thing only proves why I don't want a job like this. I've heard the joke that Desbreko never gets turned down when asking people to be staff, well I can promise you this, if that were the case... I would be the first because I would not do it. I am not suited for such a thing. And I do not want my sense of humor to change and find what was posted funny. Ugh. Just thinking of doing it is enough to make me feel sick.

I just went through my PM folder...I was an *** of a moderator. But, by God, I got the job done.

I also discovered how much fun I used to have with members I'm not so much associated with according to Otakupedia. People like Sara, Queen Asuka, and Piromunkie. Bah...we were all hella' mods.

You modern moderators. You don't know what it means to mod!

(Yes, I also read that MAMA article in Otakupedia. I found it quite funny.)
