Favorite Web Comic

Repeat thread from 2006, but whatever. :p

Basically, just try and pick your favorite web comics and provide examples (without stretching the layout), and then explain why you like the ones you've picked. Here I go:

xkcd

Some of my friends made me start reading this web comic, and I'm so glad I did. It's a perfect blend of nerdy math/science and humor, and I love how hilarious it can be with just stick figures. I think any nerd would like this web comic; when I first read the example provided I laughed out loud with my friends for about five minutes straight.

Married to the Sea

(Those aren't even the great ones, I just had to pick them because they didn't stretch the layout. If you think these are funny, you must check the website out.)

Words cannot explain Married to the Sea. Every single one makes me laugh out loud; I have no idea where they get these pictures, but all of their comics are genius. I love them too much. Some of the funniest commentary and 'dub' comics are there.

I'm a lot more mainstream, XD. I read Megatokyo primarily. It used to be one of my favorite stories, but ever since I became more in-tune with the subject matter I lost a lo of respect for it unfortunately. Still read each new one, though, because I go through the comic site to get to the forums.

I used to read the many works of Sean Howard. His biggest series is A Modest Destiny, which is a formery-daily webcomic steeped in great mythology, a beautiful sense of humor (till it gets darker and even cooler) and some badass storytelling all around. He's also got some other webcomics on there and a novel-like thing. He then started working on games and has abandoned his comic site for months. (squidi.net for all)

I also keep up with VGCats and if it wasn't so slow I'd be reading Gone with the Blastwave. I've read portions of a LOT of other webcomics, though. These are the only ones I still bother to check up on, though.

Yeah, xkcd is pretty good. I haven't read too many, but what I have read is hilarious. I read VGcats sometimes, although they get a little juvenile at times. One that I occasionally catch up with is Pebble Version, which is a Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire parody. I used to religiously read Zelda Comic, but since they haven't updated in months it's hard to catch up.

Boy I feel like a jackass. Didn't even bother to mention Mistakes of Youth run by my good pal Wildarmsheero (actually, he probably doesn't feel the same way about me XD). It's otaku humor. If you are not an otaku, the jokes are likely to go right over your head (went over mine for a while, too) as they are directly relative to the shows on TV now. Anyway, he has a... very disturbing sense of humor but it's still fun.

Linked in m banner and his blogged is linked to BOKU WA RO-RI-KON.

I remember getting stuck into http://www.meninhats.com/ for a while. It was good at the beginning, but then the author ran out of gas and kind of kept going for a while. Then the website died for about a year before he came forward and admitted the creative well had run dry, as it inevitably does, and is nothing to be ashamed about. I wish the author of Garfield would take a leaf out of this guy's book.

I occasionally go back and read the ENTIRE archive of Penny Arcade, in one sitting. But it takes me longer and longer each time.

My current addiction is Lolcats. I won't go into that any further because it's not relevant to this topic. But it's the reason why I stopped reading Penny Arcade, The White Ninja and Three Panel Soul. Other things that have nothing much to do with this thread is the sad passing of Tourette's guy, who was a comic unto himself.

More offtopic, you say? Very well, a tidbit of info for you - my mother is a comic artist, among other things.

I did that with Sluggy Freelance once or twice. Some good stuff, but it's like 10 years worth of back-catalog ^^;; worse yet, it was DAILY for a lot of that time >_<

I usually love Questionable Content, I love the story and it's wry, slice-of-life, indie-rock humor. Though lately I've been getting into Gunnerkrigg Court. GC is sort of a fantasy story about two girls and the strange things that happen at their school. The art is fascinating and I really enjoy the story line. The backlog isn't TOO big, so it's easily doable in a few days (I think I did mine over two, including homework and other stuff).

I'm also a fan of Megatokyo, (the now-ended) Inverloch, and The Phoenix Requiem (from the same artist as Inverloch), Red String and Ganbare Shimura San!. Though my list of favorites is massive, so this is only a fraction of the ones I read everyday, heh.

Gotta agree with xkcd, and I'll check out the other ones Lunox and Ravenstorture mentioned. Read a bit of VG Cats, which I like, but I feel compelled to introduce Cyanide and Happiness:

I remember this! I loved that cowbell one!

By the way, notice the equation the character is drawing in the last part of the first comic:

X=K/CD

Looks like someone's a fan.

I love webcomics. I'm addicted. I read all the usuals... Sluggy, 8-Bit Theatre, Penny Arcade, Real Life, Bob and George (yes, still).

But my absolute favorite is kinda odd. Captain Snes. It's basically a fan sequal to Captain N, but done so much better (and so much darker, too. It's awesome.). It's got a great sense of humor, a deep and complex storyline, and great sprite-work. I love all the references, too; Jaydee knows his video game history.

The only problem is the lack of updates. I never want to hear anyone ***** about their favorite webcomic not updating in forever until they have to sit through an entire year of "next update coming soon!" And he still doesn't update regularly.

EDIT: To anyone that clicks on the link... the comic on the front page is basically a guest comic. That is not the quality that Captain SNES usually has... it's much better.

There are a few that I read every now and then like VGCats and Ctrl Alt Del however my two favorite have to be MegaTokyo and Wiik Sauce.

Wiik Sauce is JCBagge's newest project and it sounds very promising and has a lot of potiental. Megatokyo is just...fun. I miss Rodney Caston though. Megatokyo was better with him. Now it is some soap opera. T_T For those that do not know, Piro is based off the artist of Megatokyo, Fred and Largo is based off of Rodney. I miss the comic relief. B3w43 7|-|3 V1br471|\|g s|-|33p 0f d347|-|.

I need to get better at 1337. Anyways, for those who cannot read that, that is from my favorite strip of Megatokyo, Beware the vibrating sheep of death. Brr brrr BRR brrrr.

You are not 1337! Darn you are making me want to read that right now.

But then there's Toothpaste For Dinner. Oh so happy. I wish my photobucket was working so that I could post some... but really. TPFD = Awesome.

I like Sinfest. It's quite awesome! It feels like a bunch of different views on religion and makes it somewhat cute and funny. :animesmil

Flipside!

The story of Maytag, a nymphomaniac jester girl and her homosexual life partner, Bernadette the Knight. Sorcerers! Knights! Swords! Poison! Dimensional Bags!

It's good times folks. That and I met the creator/author/writer/designer/etc. at ComicCon this year and he signed my ***. That was superb.

Oi.

You have a singular, curious mind, milady. I should like to meet you sometime, if only to see inside your eyes, see what makes you tick. It would be an interesting experience, I warrant.

Well, in THAT case... I have other favorites.

Good example would be Zebra Girl!

Hate! Love! Spontaneous Combustion! But really, it's awesome. A normal girl gets transformed into a less than normal demon when her room mate slams shut a book of spells. And then she discovers that she can spontaneously light people on fire. .......and that she has a third eye. And wings. And stripes. And a tail. It's a dark comic with an excellent artist.

Wiik Sauce and Perry Bible Fellowship are the only two I read. Both are a little adult at times, especially PBF. Still, I find it to be hillarious. I'm desperately hoping someone will buy me the print collection of PBF for the holidays.

Please tell me Josh dear, that you weren't just trying to hint heavily at what I should get you for Christmas.

Because I just may do it! .....or someone here will and you'll end up with several copies of that which you so desire.

Nuklear Power Behold, the GOD of Sprite Comics. Everyone here must read it or suffer the eternal wrath of being mindless ignorant fools who have never touched the glory and beauty that comes from the brain of Brian Clevinger.

...and now I realize someone linked to it already but called it 8-bit Theatre. .....oh whatever.Best....Comic......EVER. And since I can't post this without either resizing or other stuff, just click. It's worth it. I SWEAR.

8-Bit Theatre is the bread n' butter of the site. still, there is other stuff which is worth a lookin' at. Ask Evil Princess Sara is one of the funniest parody articles out there.
