XeEmO
I just got word of one of the most amazing albums of this generation. It's called "Time Travel" and it's only on I-Tunes. Why is it called Time Travel? Well it's so ahead of it's time rumor has it that the artist (Xeem) traveled into the future and listened to a bunch of music there. Then he seemingly tried to emulate what he heard. It's electronic, but I wouldn't call it techno. Xeem is sometimes influenced by electronic bands such as Boards of Canada. Another influence is Mr. Oizo. You probably haven't heard of Mr. Oizo, but he's on the same record label as "Justice" (a small band from France). If you haven't heard of Justice you will soon. Just a year ago they were practically unheard of. I had to special order their first EP from Japan and the guys at the store told me they might not even be able to get it. They kind of blew up a few months ago after their myspace got popular and they put out their first album. They were nominated for best music video in the MTV music awards, and for the first time you can hear them on the radio in the USA. I'm not as big a fan of Justice as I am some other electronic bands though. They bring some new stuff to the table, and I'd almost almost go as far as to say they're the new "Daft Punk". That's really off topic though, because I want to focus on this EP by Xeem. I just thought it would bring some nice background information into the equation. I can barley describe how this album sounds. You should go to I-Tunes and see for yourself from the 30 second samples. After listening to those you should have a pretty idea that this is something special. In one of the songs called "Microwave" the song goes from almost static sounding noise to a melodic creepy song with backwards vocals and what appears to be backwards piano. It almost reminds me of Aphex Twin on hallucinogenics. Not literally of course, but if you could give music drugs (as apposed to the artist), that's what it would sound like. At the very least you should check out the samples provided. If you like it, tell your friends, and maybe even buy the album. It's friggin' cheap!
