Guest StolenCrusade
So what are your thoughts on Soulcaliber? I believe that it is one of the best fighting games I've played (though Tao Feng was good too) As far as characters go...I always played as Ivy. She was the best girl fighter, she had the whip/sword (dont know the name) but it was awsome.

SoulCal is one of my favorites. (Jays, I wish I owned more games. :() I mean, I enjoy unarmed combat and all, but there's something about fighting with more than just your own limbs that draws me in; and besides, I get to pick up on some really gorgeous styles, like Raphael's and Xianghua's. Never been a big fan of Ivy, though. She feels like a button-masher to me, even though I know she's got a pretty painful set when you know how to use her. I can usually shred her with Talim (I can usually shred anybody with Talim), who is my hands-down mainstay. I suppose I'd be better off with Cassandra or Sophitia, since those characters always manage to have my number somehow, but I just can't feel how they flow together. I typically stick with Talim, Xianghua, and Seung Mina, though I have been experimenting with Yun-seong and the Assassin. Obviously I've only played 2; I've been meaning to give Tira and Setsuka a whirl. Dunno why I'm drawn to the chicks....
Magus
Honestly, I'm not much of a fan of the Soul Calibur series. (Hell, I'm no fan of this nor the Tekken series) Out of the 1st two games (didn't play the 3rd game) I like the 1st one alot more. Don't know why, but I couldn't get into Soul Calibur 2 at all. I like playing with weapons and all, but it just felt like something was missing. Outside of a 2nd player/controller (LOL) Now when I was spending hours playing the 1st Soul Calibur with my brother, I would normally just choose Kilik and my brother would choose Maxi. And our matches would take too long to finish.. (The beauty of takng off timers) But really, I'm just getting back into my fighting games, but it's mainly 2D fighters at the moment.
Sandy
Soul Calibur series is definitely my favorite of the fighting games I've played. I own SC 2 and 3, and I'm craving for the fourth like no other. ;D The fighting just feels so smooth and flowing, and the different weapons each character have really separate them from each other. Both of these points are a total opposite of Tekken 5, which I also own, but which feels awkward and frustrating to play and has forty barehanded characters whose only difference seems to be their looks. :P One thing that's also great about Soul Calibur games is that they at least attempt to tell a story. Sure, it doesn't show very much in the games itself, but if you read the background stories of the characters from their profiles, you will start to see connections. There's two upcoming Soul Calibur games: a sequel Soul Calibur 4 for XBOX360 and PS3, and Soul Calibur Legends for the Wii which is set in a time between the games Soul Blade and Soul Calibur 1. SC 4 is a must-get at least for me, but Legends isn't even a fighting game but an action title. If I had Wii I'd probably buy it as well, but for now I don't think it's worth my money. But as far as The characters are concerned, Ivy is a bit of a button masher. And yes Talim is a great damage maker if you aren't concerned with pushing buttons. I don't find myself using Xiangua or Cassandra alot. Thier not very useful when battling someone like Maxi. When the guys are concerned: Maxi and Raphael are prbabbly the best to work with. Voldo and Mitsurugi are the harder ones for me to control
desertphoenix
Loved Soul Cal 2 to death, and I'm nearing 200 hours played on it. Of all the fighting games I've owned,Soul Cal 2 is the only one I keep coming back to. I've praised this game on taking very unique character styles and balancing them, which I hope they do in 4. I kind of liked Soul Cal 3 with the cool new characters like Tira and Setsuka, but I don't believe balance was existent in the game. Even though I have Soul Cal 2 100% completed and I can hang with computer on extremely hard mode with my top characters, I never got around to learning how to play with all the characters. I really only play with, as listed in order of importance to me, Mitsurugi, Ivy, Taki, Xianghua, Casandra, and Yunsung. The rest of the roster just doesn't appeal to me. I'm a little bit curious to why anyone would think Ivy is a button masher. To me, I think she is the most timing dependent character. When I think button masher, I think someone who just recklessly rushes at someone pressing any button randomly. Over all, she's pretty slow. I still struggle a bit against faster close range characters, like the notorious ankle biter Talim. Timing when to use which long-range whip attack and knowing how to use her stances fluently makes her deadly. She is my favorite runner character, since she has a perfect move for anywhere on the board, which I’ve also kind of memorized the ranges of most of her attacks. My play style with her, which I hope most people's is, is to stay in long range easiest when you know all her quick strikes and moves to create some distance. Zero Sephiroth
Soul Calibur is my favourite fighting game, other then super smash. I just love the idea of a fighting game with weapons, and Soul Calibur does it quite well, with most characters having unique weapons or styles, and each character having multiple weapons to use, which can be either for looks or for certain statistical advantages like more defence or attack power. Gotta love those joke weapons though. Soul Calibur 3 is my favourite out of them. The story was pretty good, being able to choose your own path, with a few secrets hidden out there, and the two end bosses are just amazing. Their moves, their stages, their appearance, and even their weapons are mindblowing. It?s a shame only one of them is playable though without a cheat device. Create a character was nice, but it felt sort of tacked on as an afterthought, especially not being able to set your guy?s personality yourself except by your clothes. Also, it slightly annoyed me that female characters had so much more to choose from. Seriously, they had like two to three times the amount male characters got to choose from. Chronicles of the sword was really fun. It felt like an RPG mixed with a strategy game, choosing which characters were to join you at the beginning of each chapter. You had to use a created character, and all the people who could join you weren?t the original characters, and were made in the create a character mode. Matter of fact, everyone in Chronicles of the sword was made in create a character. It was basic and simple, but it was fun. Me and my friends played that through quite a few times, using only our three created characters. My favourite characters were Mitsurugi and Siegfried. Siegfried had quite a few sword stances, and I had a few combos where he?d swap between them, making him quite hard to predict. As for Mitsurugi?he?s a fricking samurai. Enoguh for me. And it felt natural to use him. Can?t wait for Soul Calibur 4. Only problem with 3 was there was something with the AI. They?d block every attack except the cheap ones, and gave you no chance at all. Here?s a new trailer for the game as well. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/29535.html Now?what do you lot think of the two playable characters shown at the end? I wasn?t ever expecting those two in Soul Calibur to be often. Personally, I was excited a little at first, but now I think they?re out of place to be honest. Whilst their fighting styles would fit in the Soul Calibur universe, they?re just out of place in everything else. Plus you just know Yoda?s going to be very awkward. He?s either going to be the leaping around type when he attacks, making him hard to hit without being hit yourself, or he?s going to be a low attack only guy, going to be hard to hit unless you use a lot of low attacks and vertical slashes that can hit people crouching as well. Though it would be interesting to see if they can use the force and how it'd work in the game...
Sandy
I did not expect to see Yoda and Darth Vader as guest characters at all - I was honestly waiting for Jack Sparrow when they revealed that there would be a guest from a "favorite sword-buckling movie series" - but it's not as big a deal as some crazies in some unnamed gaming message boards make it out to be. I'm not saying that I think sci-fi characters fit in the SC universe, though, cause they look totally out of place. But they don't bother me either. Nobody's forcing anyone to play with them, anyway. ;D I for one am excited to see how the cuddly Yoda plays - if it's anything like his battle against Count Dooku in Episode II, I'm sold! Magus
While it's true that I'm no fan of the SC series, but I'm also not a fan of the Star Wars series. But seeing that trailer, I can't help but laugh at it. Like Sandy, I don't think it's a big deal like other message boards are making it out to be. I'm actually curious about what kind of moves they'll give Darth Vadar. Seeing how I've never seen much of the movies, I don't know any of his abilities outside of "The Force".
Dagger
Haha. My friends will certainly get a kick out of the Star Wars guys. I don't play Soul Calibur 3 much myself... just kind of keep it around for other people to entertain themselves with when we're hanging out in a group or whatever. Kind of like a plate of half-forgotten hors d'oeuvre sitting out on the table. It serves that purpose well enough that I'm not particularly interested in getting Soul Calibur 4... not for a while, anyway. ~Dagger~
