I really like techno and many of it's sub-genres. Through experience, I found out that I prefer trance and dance a lot more than just techno. Techno just has the beats and music. Dance typically has lyrics along with the music. Trance has a more hypnotic feel to it compared to the rest. Trance is great music to listen to when you are trying to get a task completed.

I don't know if it's possible for me to dislike a techno song. I don't know much about the genre, but if I hear it on the radio or anywhere I'll most likely enjoy it.

My favorite electronica group is Blaqk Audio, which consists of Davey and Jade from AFI. It's claimed to be very Depeche Mode-esque, which I can't necessarily confirm because I haven't listened to any DM.

They only have one album out right now, CexCells, but it's excellent. Jade is really good at programming, and of course Davey's lyrics are always perfect. Most of the tracks are my favorites, but the ones that stand out the most right now are Cities of Night, Stiff Kittens, Bitter for Sweet, Semiotic Love, and Snuff on Digital.

Oh! A trailer for the US remake of The Eye used parts of Blaqk Audio songs; Between Breaths (an XX Perspective) and The Love Letter. I haven't seen the trailer offline, but it was so awesome to recognize those songs in it.

I listen to tons of techno when I am with my friends, but I rarely ever learn the names of the artists. I can say though, that I've grown attached to Röyksopp, a Nordic electronic group. I'm also, for some strange reason, drawn towards Globe, the band that did the Cyborg 009 themes. I've also got some techno mixes of "Ghostbusters" and some Rammstein songs that I am highly attached to... and Linkin Park. Their half-techno-half-rap remix album was too much fun for me to pass on.

I tend to like pretty much any electronica I hear - I don't really form any connection wth it, but it's always a good way to stimulate your background. There are some really great electronic bands out there, like Infected Mushrooms and such, but none that I'd buy an album of or anything. I don't like most of the dance stuff, though, as having heard a bunch of it while working at Spencers it made my brain melt.

Techno is definitely the wrong term for what I listen to, but I like whatever it is in my music. The late Semjaza on these boards recently got me into breakbeat music with a lot of screaming, aka. "digital hardcore" as it's called by the genre's founders, the Atari Teenage Riot. I only truly like a few songs by that band (how can anyone not immediately love a song called "Destroy 2000 Years of Culture!"?), but I much enjoy the variety of groups they inspired, namely Akira Death. Two Japanese dudes both named Akira basically doing what Refused did in The Shape of Punk to Come but without the instruments.

Also, I've brought up the 'supergroup' Error in the Extreme Music thread, a project consisting of members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Bad Religion, and Nine Inch Nails. Tony got me into them, too.

Finally, I like hybrid rock such as 65daysofstatic, which combines electronic music with "real" music. While it makes them feel like cheaters, their music is insane with the beats overlaying the drums and the noises swooping from channel to channel as the guitars are chugging away. "Await Rescue" by them is a perfect sense of the feeling, you guys should check it out on your own.

So yeah, "techno" rules. I DON'T KICK ROCKS.

Capsule and Mint Royale are my electronica of choice right now.

Capsule - shibuya-kei outfit from Japan who have produced a great amount of material that is excellent in substance, style, and quality. Some of their **** smacks of Daft Punk, especially their later stuff, but it remains pretty atypical because of its shibuya-kei genre.

5iVE STAR

Haha, people remix them excellently too - here's some Daft PunkxCapsulexBeastie Boys that is a pretty awesome match up between Ch-Check it Out and Starry Sky with a bit of Technologic thrown in.

Mint Royale - Straight out of England, Mint Royale has a bit of a bigger following mainly because of their remix of Singing in the Rain that has popped up on a few advertisements, television shows, and YouTube stuff.

They have produced a great deal of audio greatness as well and have released a compilation album of 10 years of material entitled "Pop is..." that is both orgasmic and hard to find in the United States.

Also worth a listen and a watch is Blue Song.

I listen to techno... real stuff, I guess. This of course, would be the band Happy Hardcore.

Then there's stuff like Nintendocore, which depends on 8-bit and gated synth. Such would be HORSE the band, or the SNES Bros.
