Rachmaninoff
Basically what kind of events are held in your town? Here in Salt Lake City Utah there is one that happens every year without fail and that would be the lights being turned on for Temple Square the day after Thanksgiving at dusk. With over 300,000 lights Temple Square is pretty impressive looking and makes for a nice stroll if you have the time to walk through the grounds and the surrounding area. Normally I go on the day the lights are turned on but this year I didn't because I went to the Mannheim Steamroller concert on Friday instead. The lights will be on through Christmas though so I'll just go see that another day. Another thing I go to is what's known as the Festival of Trees. An event where you go and see decorated Christmas trees but the entry fee and all the proceedings go to the Primary Children's Medical Center. It's just fun to go and take a look so I usually do. So what kind of events do you all have in the city you live in? Or rather which ones do you enjoy going to each year? I know for myself that it just doesn't seem like Christmas if I don't take the time to check out the stuff going on around the city. Aaryanna
I've never been to the Festival of Trees, but I love going up to Temple Square. ^_^ I didn't get to go last year, but this year I will. I'm wondering how it will be with the construction going on though. Still I always look forward to that since all the lights are so pretty. And I agree, it just makes it seem more like Christmas if you go to stuff like that. :catgirl:
Roxie Faye
I live near New York City, and they have Rockefeller center all lit up every year? Although I've ever exactly gone to see it light up... My campus is having a holiday lighting in front of the library tomorrow, I'll probably go to that. ^^
AzureWolf
They actually lit the tree tonight, with that Titanic singer I believe. Thankfully, she didn't sing, at least when I got there. For me, NYC, Wintuk, Nutcracker, RadioCity Xmas Spectacular. Basically every free ticket I get I take advantage of, lol.
SunfallE
I just about always go up and check out the lights at Temple Square, sometimes even on the day they first light things up. Though going to the concert was more of a priority since unlike the lights they only performed once. I have been to the festival of trees but it has been a while, and I'm thinking of going this year since I do like seeing all of the decorated trees. Probably the other thing I do even though it's not necessarily an event is to attend concerts, plays or other Christmas related productions throughout the holiday. Raiha
My plan generally is to get together with Shy and a few other people and do a White Elephant gift exchange because god knows I could use a broken toilet seat around the house.... .......and for those of you who have never done it, you are missing out in a serious way. Other than that, I'll probably dive 450 miles north to go home to see my family after Christmas and do all the happy fun times that I didn't get while home alone in my cold empty apartment. On the plus side I have a tree now. And it has a pink Aeris bow for lack of a star. How cool is that?
Gavin
Can't really say I attend any big Christmas Events, as they're all too far away to comfortably travel. I'm thinking of going up to see the Christmas Eve fireworks display in Dublin this year with a few friends by train, but I usually like to be home for Christmas Day with the family.
Starwind
There's a christmas eve party that my family has every year at my aunts house and that's about it really. I'm not big on the holidays personally.
The13thMan
I live in a very small hick-town where very little goes on. So the only local things i attend during Christmas times are the ones i make for myself and my friends. Mainly just hanging out having a good time. This year one of my good friends will be getting Rock Band for the Xbox 360. I'm looking forward to this. So far we have 3 people, myself, my friend, and one of his female friends. She will be on bass, he's on drums, and i'm on guitar. We've been trying to think of a sweet-a punk band name for us, but it's been difficult. If anybody's got some good suggestions i'd love to hear 'em. And of course on Christmas day our family gets together and plays with our new toys, eats, and just enjoy each other. I'm really really looking forward to going home. It's been a stressful semester for me, it's time to relax. I effin' deserve it. =D

Actually it sounds fun. As for a suggestion "The False Shadows" sound good. I mean it's got a punky feel, and false describes it because the band isn't real... I rock. >_,,/ If you don't like it, you're screwed. Anyways, for Chiristmas at my house we jsut open presents and go to my Grandma's. She isn't filthy rich, and we get fair stuff. Then after we go to my Cousin's house and oopen stuff. Plus it's fun to make fun of him, and play with his gifts.
Japan
This year I was planning to go see the Nutcracker ballet with my older sister. However I was not able to get tickets in time. So I am going to do what I do every year, nothing at all. Spokane is one of the most boring places you could live as there's never anything going on here of interest. So I will probably go ice skating once or twice before the holidays and that is it. We used to go to a neighbor's Christmas party every year but they moved out. Besides, my mom has MIRSA so no chance of going anywhere. I pretty much have to stay at home and take care of her. So have some fun for me guys, okay?
Panda
Besides the family gathering on Christmas day itself the only thing that is an annual event for me around the holidays is going to Starbucks with my hubby, sometimes with some friends in tow, and we get coffee and drive around the town looking at all the holiday lights. There are quite a few of those extreme holiday decorators we check out every year and a few neighborhoods that go all out. Music, lights down the curbs, tons of decorations... it's quite impressive. Since both my hubby and I are e-commuters we don't have a work related holiday party. But this year my best friend who works at the vet clinic I use to work at has asked me to be her date for the clinic Christmas party. It's going to be fun to see my old co-workers and catch up. :animesmil

But if Temple Square is the only thing you intend on seeing... then just park out in Sandy and take the light rail in. It will save you a lot of hassle. Another thing I forgot to mention, Panda's post reminded me of it, and that's the going around and checking out lights in the city. There's always somewhere that's really decked out so I usually end up going at least once with some of my friends to look at lights. That's always fun. We tend to keep it to just one area though, with the suburbs here, we could drive all night and still not get to every neighborhood that has a nice setup. Heaven's Cloud
I have an office Christmas party that I have to attend every year. As far as office parties go it is very well done. They have a full bar, a wonderful dinner, and dancing. However, I find them horribly painful. I have to put up with my coworkers for forty or fifty hours a week, forty-nine weeks out of the year. I would prefer that my company just save the money they spend on the party and just give me an extra day off of work that I could use to spend with someone I really care for. This year the party was extremely painful because my quasi-girlfriend ditched the event for work. This means that I didn’t have anyone to leach off of or use as an excuse to break away from conversations. It sucks having to work a room full of couples when you are the only one there going stag.
