NOT! HAHAHA! ...but no, seriously, I'm yanking you. Really. It's true.
I could easily say I'm pretty honest, but at the same time that doesn't really address the level of honesty or the very nature or level of my character. Honesty is something that I think is more than just words or whether or not you have told an outright lie or a white lie. You can be truthful with words and yet dishonest with your actions. A weak example would be to tell someone that being gay doesn't really bother you when in reality your actions are intentionally biased by virtue of voting for legislation that would deny a person who is certain rights.

And by biased I mean you are simply voting so others won't know that you really don't care. Peer pressure can be pretty intense at times. The truth may have preserved your friendship perhaps, but deep down your actions are that of one who isn't a friend since your actions clearly speak otherwise. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this correctly or not. But I worry more about following though with my words so that my actions don't make them a lie. I worry about being honest with myself since that spills over into being more honest with everyone around me.

I think I do a fairly decent job, but it's a constant struggle to be true to myself and honest in my dealings. I say this because as I grow older, my values are constantly being challenged and it requires me to reevaluate myself and my relationship with my friends, to make adjustments based on how my views have changed.

I’ll lie if it benefits me, but it has been my experience that in long run lies always come back to bite you in the rear. Therefore, since lies rarely offer me a long term benefit (despite how appealing their short term benefits seem) I usually don’t tell them.

My lies tend to be work related and are usually not made to cover my own failings, but the failings of other aspects of the company I work for. Usually they are made to buy a little time to fix whatever problem that we are faced with at the time. I could even make a valid argument that my lies are somewhat ethical because they tend to benefit my customers in the long run.

I also tell white lies to friends and family. Hell, I’ll be damned if I am going to tell a girlfriend that her posterior does indeed look fat in a particular pair of pants.

I fall into the same category as Beth, I'm a fairly truthful person, at time too honest for my own good, and I prefer to say things tactfully but honestly over using white lies where possible. I find with lies, even white ones, there are times when they come back and bite you in the ***, and I really don't need that.

That said, as Alex pointed out, there are times when you simply have to lie, any man who has had to go clothes shopping with his girlfriend knows that the infamous question "Do I look good in this ?" has only one right answer.

I did not read the other posts by the way so...

I consider myself truthful to everyone. The only person I lie to is myself. I don't want to give in to the truth, I think, so I lie to myself, thinking one thing I really want is true, when it really isn't.

I've been manipulated a lot of times, meaning I say something is true, when it isn't, then when I really think about it, I picture it as true. So basically, I really don't know what's true or not...
