Phew, I was worried until I read that disclaimer. Still, that evil little girl may give me nightmares this evening.

Really though, what is childish? It really is all just perspective based. Regardless of your perspective, anime on television has not gotten more or less adult oriented during the past five years. Some shows remain geared to an older audience while others are aimed at a younger group of fans.

I could argue that 12 years ago or so anime on American television was geared towards a generally older audience though, because the main venue was the Sci-Fi network played anime films like Akira, Wicked City, Tank Girl, and Demon City Shinjuku on Sunday mornings more or less subbed but unedited. Still, I was watching worse in terms of graphic nudity, language, and violence at a younger age, so the idea of something being childish remains entirely speculative.
I think that the animes here in America have gotten a wee-bit childish. I think it has a little more action, but some of the stuff on Cartoon Network is falling away from the mainstream a bit.
I hate to be the one to issue the same response over and over again, but I think this kind of post as been . . . well, posted over and over again. It seems to me that very few of us are actually reading any but the latest posts. I encourage new thread-comers to do so, so that the CN angle isn't beat to death. :animesmil

Also, Cartoon Network (and the sister-channels Toonami and [adult swim]) is not the exclusive anime broadcaster, even on cable, and they haven't been for some time. I think (and stress think) that abcfamily ran Yu-Gi-Oh! for a while, and Fox had Pokémon, Digimon, and a few others on their FoxBox thingamajigger, assuming I remember right. (I think Yu-Gi-Oh! GX was there for a while, too.) Toon Disney, up until it ceased being aired on cable, had some stuff; Dragon Booster and Get Ed! were among the more menial, but I think they had some others as well. I recall watching a few episodes of an anime revolving around something like podracing.....

Anyway, even though Cartoon Network may have abandoned decent shows like Looney Tunes and School House Rock in favor of My Gym Partner Is A Monkey and other such crap, don't judge it completely based on its daytime schedule. Stay up 'til about three in the morning and you'll probably catch something good. Like Big O. They put it back on.

And if you run into Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, don't blame me. Have patience. :p

I enjoy staying up at 3 in the morning to watch stuff like Inuyasha. True that I shouldn't be dissin' on cartoon network, but its like the only station that plays the anime that I will watch, and most of the stuff during the daytime schedule is childish. But, as soon as adult swim rolls around, a lot of good animes do appear.

Fox never had Pokemon, despite the fact that it's a 4Kids license. Digimon hasn't been on Fox for about 5 or 6 years, if I remember, back when it was still Fox Kids. About the time Saban went out of business and they sold the block to 4Kids. Yu-Gi-Oh! was on FoxBox for a while, unless it was already 4Kids TV at the time.

Now stop making me type "4Kids."

Jerks.:p
Watch Fuse. It has some good anime on it.
Not really lol. Unless they have something I'm not aware of? (I don't really consider Tenjho Tenge and Ergo Proxy good. Another conversation for another day lol.)

And yet again, I agree with Panache.. Go channel surfing for more mature-ish animes. Starz has Desert Punk (I'm repeating myself) and I think they're getting Black Lagoon in March or April.

IFC is currently airing Basilisk and WitchBlade. AZN has Saiyuki Reloaded and Last Exile. (I don't watch either, but you may want to check them out.) ENC-Wam is all over the place.

Really? Could've sworn.... Maybe it was on abcfamily as well, or the WB or something. Hunh.

Right, right. Toon Disney got that one, too. I remember now. It was their Jetix section, which also has Saban's stuff and Oban Star Racers (if that counts as anime), which was the podracing thing I was mumbling about.

Funny about Pokémon, though, 'cause I was really sure it was FoxBox. Eh, whatever. CN has Diamond and Pearl now, so it's pretty moot.
I don't really consider . . . Ergo Proxy good.
Really? Bummer. I was hoping it was. I'll probably check it out anyway. (After Glass Fleet, though.)

And those of us with [strike]college dorm[/strike] standard cable don't necessarily get Starz, IFC, AZN, or ECN-Wam. So what have you. :animesmil

I haven't really noticed a trend of anime becoming more childish, but then I rarely watch the regular channels since I hate commercials so I tend to use the on demand section of our cable along with shamelessly borrowing dvd's from friends and family. :catgirl: If anything, considering how poorly things use to be translated, It seems that things, well other than stuff that is edited for a younger audience to begin with, are actually becoming more adult in how they are being left in the original format or rather you can actually get things that way. Maybe TV, depending on what you watch, is more childish, but in general? I'd have to disagree with that assessment.
